can't believe how many times I've avoided a talk with the feds. I worked on a research project as a student and we needed to do silver plating for reflective surfaces, we weren't far from ordering like 5kg of reagent grade potassium cyanide from sigma for it except for the fact that the lab, as we found out, was legally part of a nearby school. Mind you, this didn't at all make it problematic to perform cyanide reactions with literal gallons of the stuff sitting in an undersized vent hood that was behind on its inspection and not rated for explosive gasses, the lack of preparedness of both the lab or the fire department to handle an entire office-sized building getting turned into a massive gas chamber, nah it was the recently found to be carcinogenic formaldehyde (15ml) we needed to use that went too far. I've also considered trying my hand at DIY supplement blends because they're overpriced as hell, I almost pulled the trigger on either a pill filling station or one of those powder pill presses, not once until now did I consider how fun it would've been to have the feds swab down our entire house.

Not only does he collect all sorts of scary chemicals for his videos about this chemistry book from the 30s, but he also does experiments with high voltage electricity and high power lasers all in a shed in the middle of the woods. And he’s been visited by the FBI for his chemistry video because of the amount of chemicals he bought, not because of his high voltage electricity or lasers or his Arabic heritage, but because of making parade candles with arsenic and mercury.

Was looking into getting into wet plate photography. For that you need diethyl ether as a solvent. Went to local pharmacy and talked to one of the chemists. At first he was reaaaally hesitant when I asked them about whether they could sell me said chemical and you could almost see that thought bubble that said „This sounds sketchy af“. But then I explained my reasoning, the process that requires this type of solvent, the other substances involved and that I know the stuff is not the nicest chemical to work with etc. He then started relaxing and eventually said that he would be happy to sell me diethyl ether, because one, nobody would make that use case up on the spot, and two, he now believed that I knew what I was talking about.
Eventually I never went down that route because some of the chemicals are really expensive and even though I love photography, I am not willing to bankrupt myself over it (more than I already have 😂).

Speaking of youtubers that may or may not be on a government list, I wonder if the guys would/could ever get a gun youtuber on as a guest. Like Brandon Herrera, the guy who has enough armaments to fight a Russian battalion tactical group. I'm not joking, he has an actual working rpg-7.
Tbh, I think someone like Scott from Kentucky ballistics or Matt from demolition ranch would probably be a better suit. Unless you guys manage to find a gun youtuber that's a massive anime fan, but I don't think those exist.

@@xxxm981 That's just russia being russia though
get it? Cause Russia is incredibly corrupt at multiple levels, so much so that a person can easily just stroll into a military depot there, hand a commander some cash and walk out with some military gear. It's actually cited as one of the many reasons why their military is doing so bad right now.
Wait hold on an NLAW? Where'd he get that, that's not Russian. Like everything else is pretty old and was probably siting in a warehouse somewhere gathering dust.

I just thought it was a cool thing to own. I still don't understand why there was a problem. It's just literally a piece of charcoal in tablet form like tums antacid.

I've noticed that Canada's policy about "sketchy chemistry," namely drugs, is kinda don't ask don't tell. It's currently the worldwide haven for research chems and sourcing precursors, even controlled psychedelics are easily available online right now. People have even tried open brick and mortar magic mushroom stores but they've ended up getting raided thus far.

The uranium thing actually reminded me of a story I heard a while back. There was a high school kid, I think back in the 1980s, who was pretty much a savant; he sucked at dealing with people and most of his classes, but he was amazing at chemistry and engineering, and he managed to refine his own uranium in his backyard shed and set up a miniature nuclear reactor. Some time later, he ended up getting found out, and the police were called, and he actually got arrested and sent to prison because he made a nuclear reactor in his backyard while still in school. I need to look that up again, I can't remember his name.
EDIT his name was David Hahn, and I was wrong about a few things; he didn't actually complete his reactor. He was trying to build a breeder reactor, and he got pulled over by police for something else, and they called federal officers when he warned them that some of the items in his car were radioactive. He didn't get arrested, but was sent for psychological evaluation, and later joined the military before dying in 2016 to drugs and alcohol.

    • @slycooper1001
      @slycooper1001 Год назад +4

      ahh yes the nuclear boyscout
he actually succeeded in building the breeder reactor but realised that he was actually creating plutonium and decided to disassemble it
he only got found out after he got pulled over
a bunch of hazmat agents cut apart the shed where he experimented with radioactive materials and they packed it all into plastic barrels and buried it in a location i don't quite remember
the reason i know this was a long time ago when i was really young
i thought that i could design a gamma ray blaster that could fire blasts of blue light like a deadly laser but later realised my idea would not work unless it was overly large that and if it got damaged in anyway it would kill you and anybody around you
basically it would work like a mechanical demon core blaster
      except smaller
then i went oh it would not travel like i thought and would not be effective at all
if i was born in a early time you would probably be talking about my nuclear blundergun along side david hahn
luckily i realised the dangers of my idea and stopped before i attempted to create a prototype

They have never asked me about the obviously suspicious things in my bag, but handwarmers, slim usb chargers, carabiners and first aid kits throw them for a loop.
