  • Why do we "have" to love God? It seems very self-centered of God to demand our love. But is it?
Today Fr. Mike opens up the first sentence of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and helps us to understand more fully why God, who was never lonely in Heaven, chose to freely create us to be in relationship with Him.

Fascinating timing . During my rosary this morning it occurred to me, or perhaps the Holy Spirit inspired the thought, “why is God going through all this trouble? He could easily say this life is your gift from me but ultimately you guys are way too much of a hassle to save so you get 70-80 years and poof, you’re gone” and so I meditated on the indescribable love He has for us. Especially in giving up His Son so that we may have eternal life.

**Log Between Pastor John and Pastor Christ on Catholic Christianity**
      ---
**Pastor John:** Good evening, Pastor Christ. It's always a blessing to fellowship with a brother in the Lord. Today, I wanted to discuss something that has been heavy on my heart-Catholicism. I believe the Roman Catholic Church has led many astray from the truth of the Gospel.
**Pastor Christ:** Good evening, Pastor John. I agree, the Catholic Church has adopted many practices that are contrary to Scripture. Their doctrines have introduced traditions and teachings that obscure the simplicity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Let’s start by addressing the role of tradition in the Catholic Church. In Mark 7:13, Jesus said, *“Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.”* The Catholic Church elevates its traditions to the level of Scripture, which nullifies the Word of God.
**Pastor John:** Absolutely. And let’s not forget about the veneration of Mary and the saints, which has no biblical foundation. The Bible is clear in 1 Timothy 2:5, *“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”* Yet, Catholics are taught to pray to Mary and the saints as if they were mediators. This is a direct contradiction of the Bible, which teaches that Jesus is our only mediator.
**Pastor Christ:** That’s right, Pastor John. The Catholic doctrine of the Immaculate Conception, which claims that Mary was born without sin, is also unscriptural. Romans 3:23 states, *“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”* This means that every human, including Mary, was born with a sinful nature. To claim otherwise is to deny the truth of Scripture.
**Pastor John:** Another concerning issue is the Catholic practice of confessing sins to a priest. The Bible clearly teaches in 1 John 1:9, *“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”* Confession should be made directly to God, not to a human intermediary. The idea that a priest has the power to absolve sins is a man-made doctrine, not a biblical one.
**Pastor Christ:** Exactly, and the concept of transubstantiation-where the bread and wine are believed to literally become the body and blood of Christ-is another issue. Jesus said in John 6:63, *“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”* He was clearly speaking spiritually, not literally. Yet, the Catholic Church has turned this into a ritual that borders on idolatry.
**Pastor John:** Yes, and speaking of idolatry, the use of images and statues in worship is another grievous error. The Second Commandment explicitly forbids this in Exodus 20:4-5, *“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them.”* Despite this clear command, the Catholic Church encourages the veneration of statues, which is a form of idolatry.
**Pastor Christ:** That’s a crucial point, Pastor John. The Catholic Church’s addition of the Apocrypha to the Bible is also problematic. The Apocryphal books were never recognized as Scripture by the early church, and they contain teachings that contradict the rest of the Bible. For example, 2 Maccabees 12:45 speaks of praying for the dead, which is a practice not supported by Scripture. Ecclesiastes 9:5 clearly states, *“For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.”* Praying for the dead is futile and unbiblical.
**Pastor John:** Absolutely. Another serious issue is the doctrine of purgatory, which suggests that there is a temporary place of purification after death. This doctrine undermines the finished work of Christ on the cross. Hebrews 9:27 tells us, *“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”* There is no second chance after death, and the idea of purgatory is not found anywhere in Scripture.
**Pastor Christ:** Right. And let’s not forget the Catholic Church’s teaching on salvation. They promote a works-based salvation, teaching that sacraments and good works are necessary for salvation. Ephesians 2:8-9 clearly contradicts this by saying, *“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”* Salvation is by grace alone through faith in Christ alone, not by any works or religious rituals.
**Pastor John:** That’s the core issue, isn’t it? The Catholic Church has replaced the simplicity of the Gospel with a complex system of works and rituals that detract from the sufficiency of Christ’s sacrifice. Galatians 1:8 gives us a stern warning: *“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”* The Gospel is simple, but the Catholic Church has added to it, leading many away from the truth.
**Pastor Christ:** Amen, Pastor John. It’s important that we remain steadfast in proclaiming the truth of the Gospel as it is revealed in Scripture, without the addition of man-made traditions. As Jesus said in John 8:32, *“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”* It’s only by adhering to the truth of God’s Word that we can experience the true freedom that Christ offers.
**Pastor John:** Absolutely, Pastor Christ. May we continue to preach the unadulterated Gospel of Jesus Christ and lead others away from the errors of Catholicism and towards the truth of God’s Word.
      ---
This conversation reflects the concerns and interpretations of some Protestant Christians regarding Catholic doctrines. It is important to approach such topics with sensitivity and a desire for constructive dialogue.

@@kunalkumbhar7262 As far as I understand the teachings of the New Message from God, it says that the physical manifestation of life, this universe in which we live, was created as a place for those who wanted to experience a reality apart from God. But when God created this physical reality, he left us a Way back to God, through the deeper spiritual mind within us called Knowledge. This Knowledge is our connection to everything, including God. So, it is up to us to bring back God into this reality where God seems to be missing. And we do this through Knowledge. The core of every religion's purpose is to bring us back to this deeper reality within ourselves, or back to God if you wish. And by doing that, we become a conduit through which God can enter into this reality.
Anyways, I suggest reading the books. They are much better in explaining this than I am. I'm just a beginning student. Peace!

Somehow those of us who are blessed enough to understand get this, and it's so sad to see those who don't understand. Because it's so easy to be cynical and so hard to be trusting, but that is exactly what will make us the most happy. We humans are certainly complicated, aren't we?

As a Protestant I believed God's primary purpose for man was to praise Him but now as I am Catholic I see God made us in His divinity. Sharing in God's divinity is something Protestants are profoundly against as they think we are a form of Mormonism in this area. Catholics do take praise and worship strictly meeting in Spirit and truth but it's not the sole reason He fashioned us. It is only by His overwhelming love for us that He shares His divinity.

Struggling with the concept of God and His love for us.
I got confused (and still am😅) on some parts of the Old Testament when God said He did so and so for His Name sake or for His Glory. Also read an article that said His primary purpose for creating us was for His Name (only second is love).
I know He's not a narcissist, I know He loves me and I love Him but I'm struggling after reading those things

Oh how interesting this thought is… I’ve never thought of Gods desire for us loving him to be anything but completely understandable. We are a reflection in our own human relationships, we desire to be loved and have close authentic loving relationships with others and especially with those we love the most. I love you God, thank you so much for your gift of life and the opportunity to know you and experience the most profound and pure relationship of love between any beings possible. I hope to continue to grow more Godly every day and share this. Amen.

The force of Love is a force of Creation. That is the nature of Love. If there was always nothing, there would always be nothing. If there was a source of eternal uncreated uncaused love, than that love would always create. Love creates, nothing doesn't create, and hate destroys.

About your wrinkled shirt, I will say to you what the Holy Spirit said to Samuel before anointing king David, “For man sees the outward appearance, but the Lord sees the heart.” ❤. As your talking about why we were created, I keep hearing, “Let my people go, so that they may worship me”…this is what the Lord told Moses to say to Pharaoh. We were created to worship our Lord! Everything we do, may it be done as an act of worship unto the Lord! Whether you’re pushing a broom, or performing heart surgery, it’s all an act of worship! This also brings us back to the beginning. Before they sinned, Adam and Eve used to walk naked and unashamed in the coolness of the Garden of Eden with the Lord! Can you imagine!!They were in daily fellowship, in this intimate place with the Lord! So beautiful! We were created for fellowship, worship and an intimate relationship with our God! They were given dominion over the land and animals and told to multiply. That was their task, or their “work” to do while they weren’t spending personal time with the Lord. The Hebrew word for “work” is Avoda. It means, “work, worship and service” Isn’t that incredible?

I wonder about this ALL the time. If he were human, he would definitely be a narcissist and sometimes I get kinda squicky bc I can't keep my categories straight in my head and confuse what's appropriate for humans and what's appropriate for God. Tbh, I'm not a good enough theologian, and I'm too fresh outta atheism to really understand why its ok for God to want to be continuously praised and worshiped and loved but bad in the worst kinda toxic way for humans to want that. I guess I should watch the video. :)

God doesn't have our heart. God has everything except our heart. We have nothing except our heart. If we give our heart to God we have everything and He has our heart. Doesn't seem like a balanced exchange: we get God and Heaven, He gets our little broken Heart. What a truly great and generous God He is!

I have really really really struggled with this one. As a bitter, fallen-away Christian, both the Old and New Testaments have repelled me with this upsetting notion: why is God so mad at us all the time? My perspective has been He gets so frustrated with his creation again and again (Jesus is OFTEN condescending to his disciples -- the garden of Gethsemane comes to mind and how they were so tired, they couldn't stay awake, and he kept speaking down to them about the most human thing imaginable; fatigue!) and then seems to scare us back into loving him. But this brief homily, Father Mike, has helped me see it from another vantage point. Maybe God is not bellowing, "Love Me". Maybe it's a different tone, with a different intention altogether.

I think it’s mostly due to lack of knowledge from our side, just like certain events in the Old Testament is hard to grasp or imagine.
Women have an easier path to understand it but, being bound to somebody (in many ways can it happen, by duty, emotionally, by law etc)
One becomes free by being bound to God. Due not being in need to be bound to others (more importantly to ideologies, false religions etc)
God wants us to live in the truth and be free after all as far as I understand.
Jordan B Peterson has a certain take on it (he made a biblical series on RUclips) if Father Mike could see or do some collaboration on it or talk would been great! :)

  • @jasminemariedarling
    @jasminemariedarling Год назад +1

Ok so God made us out of an outpouring of love, but this doesn't get at the heart of the question: is God a narcissist. If God made us purely to love us and us love Him, why the need for worship? Say 2 parents have a child. Out of pure love. The parents don't demand the child worship them.
I believe in God. I didn't always. But things happened and now I do believe. But I still don't understand why we all: angels & people all worship God. I understand believing and loving. But worship is hard to understand. Hence the question "Is God a narcissist?".
But i have heard near death experiences that say when they meet Jesus or I AM/God face to face, they immediately fall on their face, fall down in worship. I know it is right. I just don't fully understand why.

Interesting. But the pre-existing of souls is rejected by the church, so perhaps a more tldr answer is “because God wishes to see us as his creation, but leaves our choices to ourselves”
