The screen door slams
Mary's dress waves
Like a vision she dances across the porch
As the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone again
Don't run back inside
darling you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking
That maybe we ain't that young anymore
Show a little faith, there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty, but hey you're alright
Oh and that's alright with me
You can hide `neath your covers
And study your pain
Make crosses from your lovers
Throw roses in the rain
Waste your summer praying in vain
For a savior to rise from these streets
Well now I'm no hero
That's understood
All the redemption I can offer, girl
Is beneath this dirty hood
With a chance to make it good somehow
Hey what else can we do now
Except roll down the window
And let the wind blow back your hair
Well the night's busting open
These two lanes will take us anywhere
We got one last chance to make it real
To trade in these wings on some wheels
Climb in back
Heaven's waiting on down the tracks
Oh oh come take my hand
Riding out tonight to case the promised land
Oh oh Thunder Road, oh Thunder Road
oh Thunder Road
Lying out there like a killer in the sun
Hey I know it's late we can make it if we run
Oh Thunder Road, sit tight take hold
Thunder Road
Well I got this guitar
And I learned how to make it talk
And my car's out back
If you're ready to take that long walk
From your front porch to my front seat
The door's open but the ride it ain't free
And I know you're lonely
For words that I ain't spoken
But tonight we'll be free
All the promises'll be broken
There were ghosts in the eyes
Of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road
In the skeleton frames of burned out Chevrolets
They scream your name at night in the street
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet
And in the lonely cool before dawn
You hear their engines roaring on
But when you get to the porch they're gone
On the wind, so Mary climb in
It's a town full of losers
And I'm pulling out of here to win.
When my 21 year old daughter is sitting on the sofa and just starts to sing this song word for word .... I know I did something right . Lol
The Boss is Legend.....
I’m Tired - good on ya mom -I must agree with you. Tired? No problem!! I'll or dead? A bit more severe
I know ur comment is a yr old,but as we're talking about "The Boss"it's necessary&warrants a reply.
And all I can say is,if ur 22 yr old sings this song,u most definitely have instilled class&good taste.
.And I listen to all kinds of music&one time(when I lived in London,UK) in less crazy&busy times I used to attend many concerts(especially outdoor events and I also worked at a large music venue)So my taste varies..And even though I live in Vegas, when I'm working i enjoy listening to a Brit Classical Music Station App(Classic FM)Now as I said I've seen Santana x3,Prince x2,and many, many others, but no one really generates the same kind of Electrical Storm that Bruce&the boys have managed to do for many an year.. Consistantly producing fantastic concerts(with his often ever changing band of troubourdors)so once again,u deserve a massive 👍👍 and must be ever so proud..✌️out..
Jerry O'Shea thank you !!! He really does put on a fantastic concert ! He is still making music . He is a legend ❤️
@@cherie3283 I think the pleasure is all mine, with ur comment..Which I thought was so charming..
"ManyMoons ago"when I lived in London(in my previous life/now I live in the US,Vegas presently)I worked in a Theatre/Music venue for 2 yrs&got to see many different acts..Which probably "wetted my appetite"for live music.
So as yrs moved on I managed to see many different artists. Santana3x,Prince2x,David Bowie,Van Morrison,Johny M athis,Andy Williams,Lou Rauls,"The Temptations".War"and many more, all excellent performers in their own rights..
But Bruce Springsteen concerts are something else .Now I'm not religious (even though I was raised Catholic,by ☘️Irish Parents☘️)But his shows are like some kind of Religious gathering...And unless some has had that treat, there are those who think all of the "PR,attention is just,"Hype"Which we know is not true.. Anyway I won't bore u further with my ramblings,u take care👍..PS.What is ur favourite piece by Bruce?
Jerry O'Shea sounds so exciting seeing all of the those artists!!! Yes seeing Bruce in concert is an amazing experience. You know I can’t really pick a favorite from him because it depends on my life really . Changes with years & what I may be going through . If that makes sense ... right now it’s probably Trapped . Hahaha ...
"You ain't a beauty, but hey, you're alright." I've tried that line; it doesn't end well.
Faux Molder so wrong huh lol...
It’s probably my favourite line. Genius.
You're learning, dude. I'll give you another secret of love as well: If you reach the point in a relationship where you need to write a song or a poem about it, then, you are fucked. Royally. Forget it. Songs don't work. So, behind this song, and: "Born To Run," you have one of Bruce's failed relationships.
lol.
Only the boss can get away with that one!
This is what you call a BAND
Probably one of the greatest songs along with live performances EVER
The kiss at the end of Thunder Road is one of the great moments in the history of live rock and roll.
Really? Why?
Onviously staged and has no relevance to the song
@@bobstrempie9424 Well, of course it's staged. They did it regularly and it didn't happen by accident. It's a great song, even better live, almost always played at or near the end of a show ... and as you bring this triumphant song to a dramatic close, the spectacle of Springsteen dashing across the stage and sliding into The Big Man's arms ... I don't know, maybe you had to be there to see it in person. It was always epic. The fact that this was a band with black and white musicians from the start, which is still rare today ... this is a moment that reflects that great bond on stage that Bruce and Clarence had. It's my favorite song by my favorite songwriter, an incredible live production, and a great way to wrap it up at the climax.
@@mikeholtzclaw3995 it was just a gimmick. Some people are always wagging their tongues, like the derelict-during-Covid-Gov. Ron DeSassy, the Scream Queen/Drama Queen and Probably Closet Queen.
I hate to think however, when Bruce finally dies the biased TV news media will show JUST THAT and all the numbskulls will be sassing off their dull ignorant yaps about it. And the TV news media in America is incredibly stupid. Bruce ranks the greatest ever, just like Prince and McCartney.
@@jamesheine2955 Uhhhh ... well, it wasn't a "gimmick," because it's not like they used it to promote the tour or something. You didn't know about it unless you were at the show. It was just a cool way to wrap up the the great crescendo at the conclusion of this brilliant song, and an exclamation point at the end of a great show to underscore the camaraderie of the band. I have no clue what this would have to do with Ron DeSantis, but I guess you make whatever connections you make.
Not only Bruce Springsteen's best song, but the best song ever written by anybody.
This from the Los Angeles Coliseum. Talk about being in charge of that stadium.
I've been a Springsteen fan for over 35 years. This is my favorite song of his, or anyone else's, and it always will be. I can listen to it a dozen times a day, and it never fails to do the same thing it's done to me every time. Can't explain it, it's magic. Thank you, Bruce, and please don't ever leave it out of a concert, I might be there!
I' m moroccan🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦 and I discoverd Bruce Springsteen in 1980 when I got the record of his album " the river" and I told to some of my friends this guy will be the king of the pop music in the next 30 years.
In 2023 with my 65 years I still enjoy listening his songs.
i am preparing myself for when I couldn't hear Bruce singing anymore. I'd like he could live forever!!!
End of 2020 now, 11/21/20. What a F****D year... Saw Clarence Clemens at the Horizon Casino in S Lake Tahoe (Stateline, NV, 1991?), a solo show he did in a VERY small casino showroom and that show developed an everlasting memory for me as I spent it with my friend Terry Osmus (who died a short time later in a car crash). Saw Springsteen prior to that during their Born To Run Tour while I was in the Air Force, stationed in Germany. Point - been listening since high school (83 grad), Springsteen obviously loved Mr.Clemens, as a collaborator, and also kissed him because I think he was trying to help break down barriers... C. C. and anyone within their circle would/should be so pleased that Springsteen is stronger than ever to this day. BTW, yes, this is one of my favorite songs/videos of all performers, ever. I like to put "covers" ahead of originals (Counting Crows rock this song) and then I'm like - yeah Springsteen does it best! Of course, right.
I was there .....we sat by "Susan" from ....Eight Is Enough.......one of the best nights ever
this is the best song ever written in one of its best performances ... great !
I was there all 4 nights... It was special
I don't think this song gets enough appreciation
Simply one of the best ever written
No doubt......his best song, and an all time great. Born to Run is amazing, but Thunder Road is so fucking good.
My three year old daughter won't go to sleep without me singing it to her. Gotta keep it alive through the generations.
Ben Upson Mine too. . 👍🏻
I was there all 4 nights... The Los Angeles Coliseum held 100,000 fans.... 4 hours all nights
Best Bruce Tour ever!! I was in HS, and it was four hours of greatness.
The best live version.
Best version ever. Bruce's voice at his best. Simply the best musician of the World.
4:14 Oh my goodness, best ´´outro`` in the history of eveeer...
senza parole
What a gorgeous human being through and through. His driving passion thundering contagiously with every move and beat of his heart. Love him forever and ever.
Yes, Yes, Yes !!!!
Leslie Caplan you can't beat a great sax
I love this video every time I watch it, and still have no idea why he gives Clarence such a big kiss on the lips.
Although he is king of the world and master of the universe
My first time hearing this! Love it! 💜 Love Bruce! 💜
i'm ashamed to say that although i've been aware of springsteen my whole life i've only ever known a couple of his songs. i play guitar and sing at a pub near me and i was asked to do growing up which i knew from the streets of philadelphia single. i looked up some more stuff on here and it just blew me away. what have i missed?!!! i'm including at least one boss track in my set. i'm learning an acoustic version of thunder road, i listened to it none stop, its so fucking amazing i cant tell you!
you're kind of lucky to still have much to discover!!!! you should definitly look for videos from gothenburg in sweden !!!!!!
The acoustic outtake of Thunder Road, the haunting version, is probably my favourite. It’s a beautiful version.

man, absolutelly amazing, intensive power!!!!
that´s our Bruce Springsteen!!
Did anyone else get chills at 4:48, Clarence and Bruce in tandem? Such a touching sight.
Loved that moment
What a hell of a song! and Bruce amazing energy on stage. Saw him live in Milan the same year. Wish we had more poets / musicians like him today
This tour had 4 dates @ LA Coliseum in 09/85.... I was there all 4 nights... The concerts lasted almost 4 hours each night, You got your money's worth. It was awesome! 4 freaking hours!!!!!!!!! His first wife Julianne Phillips danced with him on stage. She was gorgeous.
I had tickets to the 1st night. We had a bus going up from San Diego. They rescheduled and moved that show to the last night (10/2). My wife was ready to go into labor with our 1st child so I had to miss the show. I remember watching dejectedly as the bus pulled away. My son was born on 10/4. I could have made the show! Of course I might not still be married now if I had.
Best song from Bruce's best album and the best album EVER
one of the best versions I have seen. And I have seen/heard many!
Unreal performance - wish I was at that concert - Thunder Road is the best song ever!!!!
I love this song and I am singing it when I am walking with my dog.🥰
weinberg's beating the shit outta his tiny little drum set...remember '84 when i was 5th grade and heard this guy at school and some weeks later i hold "born in the usa" in my hands...for hours, studying the lyrics, images...well, we bursted out of class
had to get away from those fools
we learned more from a three-minute record, baby
than we ever learned in school
thats what i did, when i became 10 or 11...in 84/85...
Seriously though Bruce is so damn cute
he kissed him!!
I just dug this CD outta the vault last Saturday...Still listening to it!
I was there. LA Coliseum ... packed! What a show it was.
Me too. All 4 nights

I was there❤
This might be the best version!
Incredible version!!!
Greatest song of all time
Happy Birthday Bruce and thank you for all the great tunes and shows !!!!
If this is the L.A. Coliseum show, I was there! I went to two of the shows. Sat in the last row of the place for one night and then sat 16th row on the floor the second night. 3 hours each night. The man was and still is amazing.
"Throw roses in the rain" My God he can write!!
Best live version
bruce is the master of the whole universe! jajaja xd

My all time fav. song, ever. This is a thing of beauty and I can't believe it everytime I hear it.
That kiss at the end
+Alessio Franchi Yes, that kiss.
❤ Rest in Peace Brother Clarence Clemens 💜
Best song of Bruce's
Thank you Bruce
Música en estado puro. Excepcional canción.
The greatest song...ever. No more needs to be said. BRUCE!!!!!!!!
at the exact moment he sings...'they're gone on the wind.." they cut to a shot of Danny. Sigh. RIP Phantom...
Thanks for posting...love seeing the older shows!
That's at the Coliseum in L.A. I was there.
This will be played at my funeral.very sentimental.
@OapostropheC
Yeah, that footage is smokin' hot! The band was really on fire! But, after seeing this, I'm still wondering if the footage from the '85 stadium leg will ever see a proper release. The L.A. & NJ '85 shows are just too good to stay locked in the vault.
best ever
This is beyond amazing and emotive. I can easily include Thunder Road in the first five places of a list of songs that make me feel something intense.
that was epic!
@totoado Yes it is timeless. I listened to the original recording on Born to Run last weekend, with a Nakamichi amp and other high end equipment, and believe me it still takes my breath away. Every... single... time.
My favorite song...ever.
best version of this track
There is no one like him
que lindo el beso del final!xd que linda cancion!
I was at this concert!!
the song i love, wished there was a remastered perfect version of this!
The perfection is in its flaws!
They were awesome friends, upmost respect for each other!
Rest in peace, Clearance. You truly learn your sax to sing.
I was born to this song, and i'm gunna make sure I die to it too.
What a powerful performance from the boss, packing in even more emotion than on the record
3:20 omg that line with doubled length
This was my wife's favorite song and it is stll one of mine
Che grande veramante un Mito!
BELLISIMOOOOOOOOOOOOO,..............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOAT
the best love song ever writen
.lol, exactly! This was one the second show to the last of a tour that lasted almost a year and a half.
The Boss.
Nothing else needs to be said.
High Sierra C, for anyone that realizes I lived in Tahoe for 23 years and saw TOO many changes.
Pure Legend
@allanjoshuaf It's an act part of ecstasy and freedom that coveys the song. This song was usually the last song in each concert and they would most of the time perform "the kiss" at the end of the song when performing it live like this.
never saw or heard this one b4 ;)
Dal minuto 03:20 fino alla fine...
PAZZESCO!!!
Gotta love the big man too!
He's the one
Mighty Max!!!!!!!
30/09/1985 The Springsteen holy grail
2016 and bruce is still going stong :D show em how to age haha
The official lyrics is wrong: it’s “sways,” not “waves.”
Very, very good. Freaking great. Where can I get a copy of the entire concert? I have wanted one from the mid 80's epic concerts. I hear they were the best of the decade ... far better than the Stones, U2 or any other performer.
His performance in Barcelona (2002) is much, much better!
No esta en RUclips, derechos de imagen,
+Edu Rossi en vimeo la encuentras ;-)
My baby and I were there. She's dealing with cancer now...
i'm so sorry ........ hope all goes well :)
why is this show not on blue ray fkin hell
Oh, the outro...
I love the picture at 4:55
@ChiefDCS
so fucking epic
dude... is that lumberg on drums?
@ChiefDCS
yaaah
and especially the part right before bruce says 1 2 3 4
max was dying on the drums there at this part
