When Laser Prime Was Better….Maybe?? | #transformers Reveal the Shield 2010 Optimus Prime
I love how they made the chest actually becomes the window of the truck unlike all the other versions of this guy
well the window kibble at the back is always part of the design though.
@@ultar2105 I know but I like the originality behind it, makes it stand out
I had the 2010 laser prime when it came out. I miss that toy. I have no idea where it went. If only it was bigger tho. Damn it would’ve been even better.
I have the combat hero repaint and I gotta say I honestly like both molds. Great figures from each decade
the chest from the actual windows is such a simple yet genius move I'm so dissapointed the legacy didn't do that
Toxitron the goat
That figure was my first time experiencing the mold and it’s freaking awesome
@@THANATOS-PRIMEsame, I’ve already gotten a Scourge since then, and I’m definitely getting the Toyhax set for the Optimus.
I literally just bought him lmfao
I've seen Toxitron at Walmart a few times and never picked it up. Is it good enough that I should consider getting it?
@@braydenpage1808It's not the best use of the mold, but I think it's nice & new Toxitron releases are extremely rare. If the character or the color scheme are interesting, then it's an solid mold to pick up.
I loved the reveal the shield toy. But that hand issue terrified the heck out of me. I think that figure has a cooler sword because it looks like something out of Soul Caliber.
The new mold is awesome too. It’s nice that I finally got to experience it for the first time as a Toxitron.
I have this, the original as Scourge, and the Leader Laser Prime from last year. While the Reveal the Shield one has decent engineering/articulation and great weapons storage I definitely prefer the newest release out of the three. The deluxe one was definitely inspired by Laser Prime though the alt mode had more in common with the G2 hero Optimus which I think was white and had a trailer though scaled smaller than the original. I like how the newest one not only gave us a great updated Scourge but a Toxitron as well.
There’s also the Titans Return Voyager Prime, technically, because the chaos on Velocitron multi-pack one is in the laser prime colors.
That’s also my favorite laser prime color scheme, I love the almost highlighter red and light blue.
I have the combat hero version of the Rts mold and something I’ve noticed is that the pin holding the moving panel on the thigh sticks out a bit into the area that the back panel tabs into the legs at so my theory is that prevents the tab from fully going into that area
I got Scourge yesterday at Ross for like $15 USD and its wayyyy worth that price
I found 3-4 coronation Starscream a at Ross for 15$ as well
The new on is better as a stand alone figure. The 2010 figure with the Battle Tanker add-on is amazing.
I had this guy in a box on the way to trade him in. I started fiddling with it on the way and it made me love it so I kept it.
I got Laser Prime and he's great, only issue is he has loose elbows so its hard to make him hold his combined weapon
I have an issue with his shoulders being slightly ratcheted.
The Scourge version of the 2010 mold goes SO UNBELIEVABLY HARD, that it sucks that it was a TFCC exclusive and it never got a general release
I had that combat hero prime, made a great stand in for botcon sg magnus when the maketoys battle tanker set came out. He was never in prime mode again. He was never transformed in any way. Filled a void but hated myself for biting. But third party was king in those days.
I remember when laser prime had the chest stickers
I used to have Reveal the Shield Laser Optimus, and it was actually one of my favorites at the time I got it. But the fact that the legs never lined up right in truck mode and the toolbox/hand covers never stayed where they were supposed to eventually made me change my mind. The painted orange windows right next to the clear orange bothered me a lot too - I wish they'd been case in clear orange and had the insides painted silver, which the POTP Dinobots proved was a better solution.
I kinda miss him, but I also wanted him more as Scourge than as Prime. Now that I have that black and teal beefcake, I don't know if I want to go back to the 2010 mold.
My parents almost got me this as a gift from a thrift store sealed in box for $10, but they thought I wouldn't like it. So I never got him and it was a figure that was on my grail list. And this video just makes me want to have him more!
The old laser looks great but the legacy one is definitely in my opinion a good take on laser prime and a great figure/mold
Looks like I'm not at a loss grabbing 3 colors of the same mold. Prob grab 3 more in the future
Surprised they never made a Toxitron variant out of that mold
Tbh I've never really been interested in the laser prime toys. The design just never interested me. But I love the video!!
Imagine if *This* Toy Guy tracked down the ORIGINAL G2 figure!
I have the Maketoys Hypernovae, and they based the core truck/bot on the old generations Laser Prime, and the wheel shifting bit is even more annoying, but the truck mode and posing in robot mode ends up more solid, but also a bit more annoying to transform in places. So it's like 2 steps forward 2 steps back
Funny thing is that Maketoys had developed their Hypernovae (Nova Prime) trailer from their Battle Tanker (trailer for RtS Laser Optimus Prime), and after or between repaints/retools as Black Convoy/RiD01 Scourge & Shattered Glass Ultra Magnus, they would turn around and release another retooled repaint of the core robot as their own Laser Optimus to go with Battle Tanker.
@@DragoonMS I used to have that figure once upon a time, as well. My copy had some bad QC issues, so I didn't enjoy it much. I lucked out on my Nova though, and have enjoyed it quite a bit despite its issues.
Hope you get the blue hero laser Optimus fix or try combining the two old ones
maybe do a video on any custom Transformers you have made
I have the Legacy G2 Optimus. I'm just going to modify it into another Prime with a Nemesis repainted head and more body paint applications, some Laser OP upgrade kits, then give it Red Cog and Red's weapon upgrade pack as a companion piece. I was thinking of giving it a Fusion Cannon.
Maybe the Prime of Gentlemanly Warfare or Protection?
The issue is the left elbow. The pins need a better hold for tightness.
The RTS prime has a good upper torso and arms, while Legacy Prime has better-looking legs, Matrix housing, and shoulders/truck engine compartments (cannons and missiles).
I got several iterations of the RTS version of Laser Optimus, and got the Battle Tanker 3rd party upgrade for a couple of them.
My favorite is the G2 Redeco of RTS Optimus, which I paired with the Shattered Glass Ultra Magnus Battle Tanker armor, paired him up with the G2 Ruination Decepticons. i left on the original head, and he really does a good job of feeling like his onw unique character now.
As good as the rts Laser Prime is… I think Legacy is better overall. Maybe I’m biased because is more accurate to the original G2 one and I always loved that toy
I had the old prime. Gave the toy away but forgot to give them the sword so I have a random sword that just sits there in case I want a extra wrapon for a figure.
I used to have the TFCC Scourge repaint and I enjoyed it a lot but Transforming it was a pain
Such a funny coincidence I saw your video and then on the same day I found a bunch of Legacy Scourges in Ross for $16
I bought 2010 laser prime at a toy show last year along with RTS Jazz for like 50 bucks total. Might be a bit overpriced but those 2 were Grails for me so I was happy
More Armada pls.
Also found this Scourge at Ross like everyone in the comments. I am very impressed with how much im loving it!
Still have my RtS Laser Optimus Prime from back in the day. Still hoping to find the Maketoys Battle Tanker or the KO...then I'll have no need for the Legacy mold...yesss.
At least you didn't include that imposter to the throne - Titans Return Voyager class Laser Optimus Prime - because that thing's sole purpose was to be a pretool & prepaint for Octane. (Hell, even Takara ain't really want that version of the mold, releasing it as a convention exclusive Black Convoy (RiD01 Scourge)...)
I used to own a classic Laserrod Optimus. It was secondhand, used to be my cousin's, but the electronics didn't work. Can't remember what i did with it
I gotta say the original laser prime is my favorite iteration. It just has a fun play factor the others don't
size head and solidity, these are the only things the new one has over the old one
I wish some 3rd party would make an upscale version of the 2010 one. One that could scale with the other Optimus figures.
I use the blue one as my canonical CHUG Sentinel Prime
i literally just got scourge from ross for $16.99😭
Dang i got mine for 80$+ from a scalper
I just picked up a loose 2010 one for like $0.35 from a thrift store. No sword, but really nice condition otherwise. (It was originally $0.50 but everything was 25% off today.)
As nice as the Reveal the Shield Optimus is, it could have been much better at a voyager size. The articulation is already pretty impressive for a deluxe-sized figure. I like the more modern slope-nosed truck mode & how well the legs are concealed.
I like the use of actual parts used in transformation and matrix sculpted In the back of the windows in my book 2010 wins although my legacy scourge is still my favorite legacy figure I own
Legacy Scourge freaking rocks imo
I've just ordered the Lazer legacy prime I can't wait to transform him with mad anger issues as a fan of G2 grimlock is next for my shelf
I need Jobby to transform this. No reason in particular 👀
I also would have liked to see you bust out the original G2 Laser Prime along with these other 3, just for comparison's sake..... and because I want to see it
My legacy g2 prime also does the same thing as that blue reveal the shield one unless I don't use the knee pads for the transformation then it works
5:00
That’s what she said 😔
I have the old toy. RtS with the 3P trailer and FunPub. I really like it, but it's too small. Velocitron Black Convoy was mighty tempting, but the colors are just all wrong. I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger.
Nice to see you still have your mp-10v id love to see it compared to earthrise prime and the new g1 one with full articulation
I got a colpy oof this guy recently, and he is pretty good but the ball joint ankles are a little soft so he has trouble staying upright. Compared to my original Laser OP and the Legacy mold, I think the newest is best, but it's hard to decide between this and the original. The shoulders worked better on the old one than either new mold, for sure, and the trailer's base mode was much more impressive with the disk and missile launchers (both classic spring loaded and air bellows) than the Legacy version with its sad little claw arm. Not downrating the 2010 version for not coming with a trailer when that meant a lower price point and fitting into far less shelf spce, but the fun factor is another opint to the original mold.
Really, they're all oretty close to peak TF toys. I can't see anyone being disappointed in them no matter which one they get, save perhaps for 2010's too-small hands causing breakage.
2010 had the better take on the shoulder kibble and how it moved WITH the arms. Otherwise, 2022 wins hands down.
bro you kill me, everything you refer to as an 'older' toy i still think of as a 'newer' toy 🤣
Part 2 of waiting for him to get and reveiw infernacus
It still bothers me that Hasbro is being lazy and not removing the legs additional trailer port, why does barely anyone even talk about them even as its annoying as one leg has one giant tab on the side while the other is like a point sticking out.
Not sure if it got much coverage, but it was already mentioned with the Legacy Laser Optimus Prime version of this mold that basically everything from the waist down is Earthrise Optimus Prime. Just chalk it up to "Hasbro gonna Hasbruh"...
I know, I own earthrise and the legs are the same. They changed the Siege legs just enough to be different, and didn't care to remove the un-needed parts as the two side flaps are originally from siege. If you own siege the two side panels that open make sense since the legs rotate and such.@@DragoonMS
you shoud try to hunt down Maketoys HYPERNOVAE it uses the reveal the shield optimus prime mold
On my copy of 2010 lazer prime those nubs the wheels lock into broke off on my figure too.
Just got Scourge at Ross for $16.99. Woohoo!
8:29 So that's how prime gets such big legs
I should try that🗿
i had the takara scourge version of laser prime (2010) and it had a very crappy mushroom shoulder cuz it was warped
I was "first love" with legacy laser optimus mold, and i was sure hasbro would recolor it as Nemesis Prime.... and they did, wrongly.
Pink windows? Pink what? are you sH***** me? So, i quit on having him.
As Toxitron though, i was lucky to get it through a friend, and i adore him.
Some friends who also expected to see Nemesis Prime / scourge, also passed on him, because.... its not the guy we love.
So we all got a knock off with correct colors.
seriously, if hasbro is trolling you , Kock offs companies got you .
The pink windows are accurate to the Japanese toy and the animation model from Car Robots 2000 / Robots In Disguise.
4 releases and 3 rereleases and I still want one but but they are
N O W H E R E
Gotta get that bread
I like the original G2 toy better than both of these newer versions
Just found scourge at Ross for $16.99
I'm of the strange opinion that Neither is best. They're both really good at something and lack elsewhere. Legacy is accurate and feels full and weighty in the hands, but lacks in posing. 2010 is hand-candy and has every joint you'd ever want, all with above average bending...but it's small and kinda...mushy?
But the 2010 Laser Prime has a Third Party Upgrade that makes it one of my favorite Optimi: "Battle Tanker". It gave the Vehicle mode the oil tanker associated with Laser Prime...that broke apart into armor for the Laser Prime to changed its proportions to be more "Obari-esque" with slender thighs and upper arms but giant lower legs and lower arms, whilst still retaining most of its absurd posability. the rest of the trailer could combine with the Armored Laser Prime to make him a giant and gnarly weapons platform.
This Upgrade was later sold as a stand-alone toy with a remade version of the 2010 Laser Prime called "Battle Sentinel". The core robot "Gento" is my favorite iteration of the 2010 Laser Prime. all of the same crazy joints, sharper molding, Shoulder Pylons that are both separate from the arms and also move away to keep posing unimpeded...It's great. If you can get one on Ebay for relatively cheap, I'd go for it.
You should buy me that fr🗣️(w vid)
Its lazering time
No lasers?
If you can get the Make toys battle tanker for the 2010 version
I got the 2 pack with jazz and his wrist broke off so I don’t think it’s better
The bread 👍
Dude, the leg parts got cut off by the previous owner to make truck mode work better? And maybe thats why your other one DOESNT transform right?
6 of 1, half a dozen of the other as far as Im concerned
Og laser op was the best
The old one is cool but I think the new one is better
The modern one isn't to bad but the G2 design seems kinda of cursed, I mean that the modern one is the third attempt at the design, while they get some things right they get some things wrong such as the lame arms and shoulders on the most resent design but then I also bet whoever designed it did Armada Megaton in legacy and clearly didn't take into account the shoulders meant to move with the arms!!
The latest version is hindered by being a second remold of an already existing figure.
what ruins the legacy mold for me is the shoulder placement. they're super low, almost as bad as combiner wars megs
Okey dump question why do they call it laser prime?
You sure do love to complain !!! So what if the paint chips or you get stress marks in the figure it's a toy and that's going to happen over time anyway?! Get a grip.
I have both Scourge & Laser Prime, however my Prime doesn't have any eyes and I don't like that plus his head is too small.
review quillfire
Hamburger
The old one has terrible knee and elbow articulation. They don't get anywhere close to 90 degrees and it kind of ruins the figure for me.
2010
The Titans Return version is the middle ground between the two. Even though it was a headmaster and triple changer, it did a pretty decent job representing the character.
Idk why bot review the shield prime looks like a female versiom of optimus am I the only one that thinks that
hi
Whoever designed the shoulders of this prime and armada megatron with the little flap needs to be fired.
The tiny joint is so so ugly.
i personally feel like the titans return figure did this design the best, at least the scourge and optimus versions the laser prime version is fugly as hell but its more dynamic then the new one despite having well less articulation overall but it feels more expressive and the colours on scourge god damn it outclasses legacy scourge but thats probably because they stupidly decided to give him nemesis prime's deco rather then scourges
Og lazer prime/scourge is still better.
We get it you liked your own comment
Noice
I’ve realised something you are kinda like if optibotimus and jobbythehong had a love child, more optibotimus but I can definitely see a little bit of jobby

2010 wins
It's supposed to have the faux windows. Even in Car Robots, when the mold was used to make Scourge, it was definitely faux windows because the real ones were visible on the backpack.
