You’re not only a great player and overall musician, you’re also a great teacher! I love how you use a two-finger style, which sounds awesome and old-timey, as well as being accessible to players coming from bluegrass-style playing. Your personality makes it all even more entertaining to watch. I’d love to hear more tutorials from you.
I can't play it super well yet, but I have this memorized after a couple of hours of trying and now I can pick on this whenever I'm bored! This is exactly what I have been looking for, as someone trying to learn banjo and struggling. I've never even seen a gourd banjo before, but yours sounds delightful and makes this song feel so much more mellow.
I love the tutorial the most approachable banjo song lesson I've seen. Here's the lyrics. I don't really know how to format this well but I hope this helps someone besides myself. One evening as the sun went down, and the jungle fire was a burning. down the track came a hobo hiking, and he said boys I'm not turning. I'm heading for a land thats far away besides the crystal fountains. so come with me and will go and see the big rock candy mountains. in the big rock candy mountains, theres a land thats fair and bright. where the handouts grow on bushes, and you sleep out every night. where the box cars are all empty, and the sun shines everyday. all the birds and the bees and the cigarette trees, and the lemonade springs where the blue birds sing, in the big rock candy mountain. in the big rock candy mountains all the cops have wooden legs. and the bulldogs all have rubber teeth, and the hens lay soft boiled eggs. and the famer's trees are full of fruit. and the barns are full of hay. oh im bound to go where there aint no snow, where the rain dont fall and the wind dont blow, in the big rock candy mountain. in the big rock candy mountain you never change your socks, and the little streams of alcohol come a trickling down the rocks. where the brake men have to tip their hats, and the railways bulls are blind. theres a lake of stew, and a whiskey too, you can paddle all around them in a big canoe ,in the big rock candy mountain. in the big rock candy mountain, where the jails are made of tin, and you can walk right out again, as soon as you are in. there aint no short handled shovels, no axes saws or picks. im a going to stay where you sleep all day and they hung the jerk who invented work in the big rock candy mountain. I'll see you all this coming fall in the big rock candle mountain

Man, that's some mighty fine banjo picking. You remind me of Doc Watson or Doc Boggs, authentic mountain music sound and no showboating. I enjoyed that.
Thanks man! These are bottle gourd banjos. Of course gourds are each different shapes but they were very present in Africa pre civil war and after to my knowledge.
Greetings John, and thank you much for the kind words! Also, thanks for the support. Much appreciated! Hope you’re having a nice day over there in Sweden. Not sure what it’s like over there right now but I could use a break from America lol.

Ha ha thank you much Jake! So I’ve never really relied on a tuning app before I just find standard tuning and then down tune each string until I find my desired tuning. It’s basically the same tuning as standard G just down tuned a couple steps. My advice is to get a tuner that clamps to the head stock. Those fancy tuning apps are way too smart for their own good to know what down tuning is.
Thank you much they play like a dream! so the gourd Banjo varies because they can come in different shapes and sizes as well as what wood you choose for the neck. They can go for as little as $400 all the way up to seven or $800 depending on what you’re looking for. if you’re interested, feel free to check out my website to look at some of the work I’ve done and if you have any questions regarding a custom Banjo, you can call or text my phone number should be on the website. Thanks a ton for this, its the first tune I'm trying to learn after getting cripple creek and the basics down. I tuned down to what you've recommended, but my banjo still sounds so different. Is it because im using steel stings?
I hope this comment does'nt go unread because i really need help finding the tuning. Im new to music in general and when I try using my tuner, i get letters followed by numbers (like C2 for example) and i cant figure out the right tuning. BY any chance could someone offer me the specific numbers that the CGCEG tuning has to be in??
@@JonathanEnri strange, their usually fairly good tuners. If you start in standard G tuning you can tune each string down a full step. Then continue on until you reach the desired tuning. If you’re not sure of the pitch, I can make a yt short on how to do it if you’d like.
Hey man! I'm an instrument maker over from Lincolnshire ("the flat county") over in England.
