    Thor revived Kratos for 2 reasons: 1) Odin wanted Atreus' cooperation and killing his Dad before there was bad blood between them would backfire 2) Thor was upset that his sons were killed but mostly wanted to know they died to a strong foe. A worthy death. He wanted to see how strong Kratos was but knew he wanted peace and was holding back. When he sees Kratos is on his level he is satisfied that his sons died to a truly strong foe.

    • @sivasuriyan2620
      @sivasuriyan2620 4 месяца назад +31

      While I completely agree with your 2 reasons, why did you say thor "revived" kratos? Kratos was K.Od here not killed so there was no need to revive him. Moreover thor or his hammer doesn't have the power to revive someone so he can't do it even if he wanted to.
      Also another reason thor chose to continue the fight was to see the ghost of sparta. Thor was kinda pissed off that kratos was acting like a calm & reasonable person so he intentionally prolonged the fight to bring out the monster inside kratos. Thor too is called a destroyer so it makes sense he would be annoyed at the way kratos was acting at that time.

      @@sivasuriyan2620 have you ever heard of overthinking? death screen=kratos dead, thor hits kratos in the head, kratos's healthbar is completely gone and the deathscreen appears, now does it make any sense that thor can just revive people from a fatal injury in his head, ofcourse not, but this is a game about magic, and other stuff which does not make any logical real life sense

    • @sivasuriyan2620
      @sivasuriyan2620 4 месяца назад +19

      @@Adi-mk2lq it's more like your not thinking enough. If we go by your logic then even random undead monsters can empty out kratos health bar and bring the dead screen to kratos. Does that mean those monsters are able to kill kratos who is literally a god?
      That's not how game lore works.

    Thor lived up to his legends in the lore. The All-Father’s bloody butcher & bane of the giants. I love that he’s not a mindless brawler, but an experienced warrior. Parrying the Leviathan axe with the Mjölnir recall was too clean. Kratos the goat, but Thor was in complete control of this fight.

    • @Carpediemdeluxe
      @Carpediemdeluxe 4 месяца назад +15

      Yeah, well Thor is by far the greatest warrior in the nine realms. And the physically strongest aesir, just read his lore. He killed Kratos, and brought him back to life. And shattered his shield, even after the fight is over Kratos is visibly way more injured than Thor is.
      Edit: Thor is also extremly durable, he took that punch from Kratos. Aswell as the axe to the stomach, and tanked several punches during this fight. Even in the last fight, after having been poisioned by the Leviathan axe. And having fought against Jormie, whilst being drunk. He could still fight Kratos.

The battle in Midgard is just cinema, with so many iconic moments, from the revival to the weapons colliding. Their last fight outside the Great lodge felt much more personal & the culmination of Thor’s arc, tiptoeing between being a merciless destroyer & a depressed alcoholic mess of a man. The choreography, Thor going full Led Zepplin mode, & the final clash never fails to hype me up. Plus the voice acting & that music was 🔥

    In terms of fight performance, I agree. However, as with nearly all of the Kratos fights in the GoW games, he is basically always holding back. So, while it's true that Thor was giving him a run for his money in this fight, we still have to remember that Kratos is always using the Spider-Man fighting style of trying not to instantly kill his enemies with one hit.
    I like to think though that Kratos and Thor are similar in overall power since Thor did smack the snake monster so hard he sent him backwards through time.

    This is one of those fights where I honestly don't know if Kratos had gone all in from the jump if it would have made a difference...
    I mean.
    Yes. It's obvious that Thor got his first and only W against Kratos because the Spartan was still measuring him out.
    Instead of going all in.
    But. There's reasons behind my logic.
    Kratos and Thor share a similar if not the exact same Battle Mentality.
    They fight with their inherited reflexes and hard earned experiences
    They just...go with it.
    Secondly.
    Thor is the only God Heimdall hesitated going against.
    And I don't think it's just because of his vulgar intentions.
    I think it's a mix between one and these intentions.
    Heimdall knows Thor will do whatever it takes to do what he wants to.
    As long as Odin permits it.
    Third.
    Thor is literally the version of Kratos that either never let go of his vengeance
    Or chose blind obedience to Zeus and Athena just to satisfy his blood lust in their name.
    Kratos recognized that in Thor and knew the danger he could bring.
    It's...a really well written fight.
    Literally figuratively and characteristically.

    • @dylanhopkins5934
      @dylanhopkins5934 4 месяца назад

      It definitely woulda made a difference. As powerful and skilled as they both are, I think there's enough evidence here to show that Kratos was a bit stronger and he was far more skilled. You can see it in both fights. If Kratos went all out or used rage mode at all, he'd for sure win the fight a lot easier.

    • @richardfierro2699
      @richardfierro2699 3 месяца назад

      @@dylanhopkins5934 One of Kratos' biggest tactics in the new God of War is to test his opponents strength. He uses a much more open guard while fighting them and trading blows, all while learning their fighting style and habits. Kratos' good defense and insane endurance is why this tactic is so successful for him.
      However, the overall fighting power of a god seems to be decided by their nature and the role they play. Nature varies from god, but Kratos' nature in the old games was to destroy. In the new God of War, Kratos has changed his ways to be a father and a protector.
      Kratos' rejection of his old nature weakens the old authority and abilities he has held as the god of war.
      Thor is very similar to Kratos. He has extensive experience fighting and killing gods and has accepted his role and nature as a destroyer just as Kratos once did. So when Kratos clashes with Thor in this fight as the Ghost of Sparta, he is on the receiving end of nearly every significant strike and throw. Kratos just can't bring himself to go back to his old ways and fight Thor to kill him like the old Kratos would have. This weakened resolve and doubt is exactly the reason why the solution wouldn't have been Spartan rage.
      Kratos' loss here in the fight was not because of inferiority to Thor as a warrior, but because of his poor sense of self and his inability to properly trust in and conform to his new role/nature as a god.
      This gets shown when they clash again later in the game and Kratos is much more resolved than the start of the game.

    It's interesting to examine this like an MMA round, but I want to point out that Thor wasn't trying to win. He was trying to push and aggravate Kratos, to get his measure.
    And he did, for better or worse. Thor got what he wanted out of that fight. IMO, just for finessing Kratos, I'd give Thor the win overall, even moreso since a lot of Kratos's earlier punches didn't even affect him.
    In a different scenario, he wouldn't have revived Kratos.

    I understand that there is a formula to find the winner. But if we're being objective, Thor was barely trying to hurt Kratos by taking a backseat most of the fight. He didn't even care too much when Kratos was going at him.

    Interesting 2:35 Thor has a small amount of telekinesis. He didn’t just pick up mijolnir, the statue was levitated as well.

    The fact that Kratos didnt resort to L3 + R3 in Thor first fight speaks volume because if he did then the fight would be go vastly different and more environment would have been destroyed instead.
    I say, Kratos did pretty well without resort to Spartan Rage against Thor like he did with Baldur. Let's remember that he didnt have his blade of chaos against Thor first fight either.

    To be fair, Thor wasn’t trying to out right kill Kratos, like he was in the final battle. All he really wanted was to see Kratos’s full strength which is why I think he wasn’t too active. After he got that, he left.

    In the comics it is stated that kratos’ power is increased when he posses the blades of chaos, with that in mind I believe this is why he lost to Thor since he didn’t have his blades in the first fight.

    • @Nothingtoseriousfr
      @Nothingtoseriousfr 2 месяца назад

      I believe he lost the first fight not because of the blades, but because of his necessity to hold back long enough for thor to overpower him, hence why thor wanted to see what the hype about kratos was about.

    As far as raw power goes I’ll say Thor and Kratos are about on the same level. Kratos has allot more fighting experience from what I’ve seen and researched but Thor has the advantage in he never stopped fighting. Kratos has been years at this point in a peaceful lifestyle where as Thor and other asgardians have always lived for the fight, in my opinion that’s the only reason he beat kratos in the 2nd round

  • @wbharry374

    Also keep in mind Thor wasn’t gonna finish Kratos off aka he was holding back because of Odin; If you notice in the rematch Thor says
    “ NO MORE F-ING GAMES…and this time I’m allowed to kill you! “ meaning Odin gave him permission to finish Kratos off in the rematch and not in the first encounter.

    Even if kratos died during this fight, we all know he would fight his way out of whatever underworld he would be out in. Dying to Kratos is basically just a timeout to regroup and gain strength. In fact every time he has died, he has come back stronger. If I was the Asier, I would make sure to tell everyone NOT to kill Kratos..out of pure fear.

    We definitely know Thor was holding back throughout this fight. Hell, outright killing Kratos by stopping his heart, only to boot it back up, shows that he wasn't going for killing blows. Now, maybe Kratos wasn't either, but we know this fight isn't either of them at peak.

  • @dylanhopkins5934

    Yeah Kratos got caught slipping in the second round. He was absolutely destroying him in the 1st round and did pretty good in the 3rd round as well, but his hesitance to really go for the kill like he normally would do was what cost him. Thor peeped that. It was a couple times where he didn't really go in like he could have. He honestly coulda killed him here (2:30) with an axe to the face like he did Magni. And here (5:45) he did a clever move to distract Thor but he didn't follow through for another attack right away after doing it. When he fought Baldur for example the first time, and hit him with a tree, he immediately ran after him for another attack.
    I do think a couple of the points are a lil off. Thor should only have 3 melee strikes in the 2nd round and he should only get 1 throw for the 1st round. I don't think his initial strike should count as a throw as well. I also don't really understand how the final results of the scoring works. How's round 1 and 3 a 10-8 for example? Kratos had far more strikes than Thor. Anyways, another great breakdown! Can't wait for the next fight! Kratos goes in!

      Highly appreciated the insight! I understand many of your points. I can't be mad if either 1 or 3 ended up as a 10-9 on people's cards, which would favor Thor. This was a close one for me so I love hearing how others would judge it. Thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated!
