The concussive blow openings with the spear are mostly for gameplay reasons. The reason why kratos was able to land blows at some point, was because he figured out how heimdalls ability worked and started to clear his mind and just start punching on pure instinct. Thats why Heimdall asks Kratos in the middle of the fight "whats going on in that empty head of yours"

Really enjoy the UFC/boxing style scorecard breakdown. There's a lot of attention to detail in this fight, like how you pointed out that Kratos keeps his legs locked when Baldur breaks out of the RNC so he can reset it without much trouble.

Got that trophy right after watching this. You’re the man. If I got to 99x combo one more time only to run out of enemies I woulda lost it.

I like that as the fight goes on and Kratos keeps his mind clear, his spartan instinct starts to take over and is the only thing he can think of. This is why he killed Heimdall. Having cleared his mind and only having rage in his mind caused him to lose all thought and kill Heimdall.

Heimdall was ultimately a bully while Kratos was a soldier. Heimdall has never had to actually punch in his own weight class so when he started taking hits he didn’t know how to take it and snapped. Doesn’t help he also probably had a low pain tolerance.

Simply put, thir relies more on his “god”li hood abilities, height and strength, mjolnir. While kratos is just more trained and badass.

If you go by the numbers, Kratos takes it easy. But anyone looking at this fight knows Thor was tanking every hit without issue (except the last hook) and every hit of Thor's was shaking Kratos up. Thor was playing with Kratos. Easy Thor victory.

Goes to show how Heimdall heavily relies on his power to mind-read his opponent. Once Kratos was able to nullify it, Heimdall's finesse to his attacks was out the window and looked nothing more then a brawler with no technique and that's when Kratos showed him the business with years of experience.

You can tell the Devs were going ALL out w this first fight in the new modern age GOW series! The sheer amount of environmental destruction seen here was never done again after this fight... Guess the Devs realized this would simply cost too much & be too much effort to make every fight like this 😅. GOW Rangarok doesn't have ANY fights where the ground gives way like this.
