Such an insane record, I love the direction this album went in, the flavouring of Ellis is apparent in the groovy 80’s inspired riffs and that dudes fuckin vibrato!! Top of the black dahlia’s discography for me.
Another great record, thank you TBDM for all your hard work. But Brandon... for the solo in Sunless Empire, thank you so much. I can't even express how far out of every guitar player in the modern age's leauge that it is in terms of phrasing, feel, and tonality. It's like you're ripped straight out of Shrapnel from the 80s, you're a legend man and thanks for all the legendary solos and leads.
Dark, fast, but deeply melodic and a very interesting "progressive" approach throughout the album and within each song!!! I felt like all the members expanded their skills and excelled on doing that🤘🏻 Loved the solo on Sunless Empire, and Godlessly and Removal of the Oaken Stake are great!!! Great album! EDIT: Dawn of Rats 😯😯😯😈😈😈
This album is growing on me. Takes a bit for everything to absorb. I prefer the production of their older records but there's some really good songs on here, Sunless Empire is my new favorite.
Removal of the oaken stake def one of My favorites on this album, those riffs just rip hard when you just got off work, driving in the hot sun blasting some good shit!

Lost my taste for such brutal metal and kinda lost track of TBDM for a while. Going through some dark times rn and this album fits right in, so dark and unexpected. Love how Papa Trevor is exploring his vocal range a lot more and man Alan has become such a beast of a drummer! Happy to be back to such an awesome line-up. This Brandon guy has also brought new life to the band's sound. Album of the decade.
Epic from Alan Cassidy era, i miss Shannon drumlines from Nocturnal, but Alan now is on your best phase, fucking awesome job, happy 4/20 and long life to TBDM, hugs from Brazil
Thank God this solo is getting the attention it deserves, I've been playing guitar for 10+ years and I love the old Shrapnel shredders from the 80s and this solo almost had me in tears. Brandon is a fucking legend.

@Brandon Barrow My dude, I'm in my 30s, and I can tell you, if TBDM keeps releasing albums like this, I'm going to be in a permanent neck brace by the time I'm 40.
I have to fan out for a second and give my praise. Dahlia is the greatest band I’ve ever heard and have seen them live five times live since 2006 with Cephalic Carnage. Most melodic death metal I’ve ever heard. Love you guys
Thank you TBDM from Unhallowed to Verminous each song has elevated my concioussness. Your harmonies open my mind to new levels of understanding. Hail Satan!
Dawn of rats has to lyrically be the best one to me, I’m a long long time TBDM fan, but I’m a human effected by real world things in life so it’s nice to see a song that isn’t focused on the rape or on the destruction of an innocent, rather the destruction and execution morbidly of an evil doer to the innocent, I feel there is a vast frame work of amazing lyrical content in which the writer is talking more of a handing out dark justice to evil people rather then the focus being the evil happening to innocent. I digress as in my younger years being fascinated by gore lyrics and it’s intense nature. But then life actually happens to you, yo see some real fucked yo shit and have to be involved in some bad bad things, and on the other side you just want everyone to be safe and happy, so this was a really amazing nice song and change of pace kinda rooting for those fans who love the music and the band but maybe don’t listen to everything they put out cuz maybe it’s really real for some people. All and all it’s music and it’s not real but the music they do make is amazing and real to me, so it’s a intense balance, this album made that so easy and amazing to listen to! Thank you TBDM! From a veteran with a real fucked up life I thank you guys! 🤘🏻
Great to read your comment Bro, i think the exact same. I hate to see that death metal lyrics are, in mayor cases, about gore and violence per se. WTF? Come on people, the world its a very sh**t place to be creating more and more violence. Lets talk about what is happening out there, we are killing each other. The rich people is super rich and we cant even afford rent. That is wy i love Death las years, Chuck understood tis and started talking about philosophy, life and the world that sorrounds us. I would love to see more Death MEtal bands talking and thinking about the world we live in, just like Napalm DEath does, eventhough they are a more grindy band.
Nicolás Gabriel Perlini 100% I do though know and respect that extreme metal is that in fact the horror content which is cool so it’s not like I’m coming into a room that says this through this door is fucked up shit go at your own risk then complaining when I’m in the room, what has personally affected me cannot have an effect on someone’s creativity, I also understand it’s TBDM trademark to lyrically speak through the mind and mouth of the evil doer which is dope, I’m just saying personally it was nice to see them do it in a way that like a Anti hero the rats had become an anti hero like what I think all people like Trevor said the underworld we subscribe to, we are affected or attracted to dark corners of our minds for a similar reason thus we ourselves feel connected at least I do to the anti hero identity, like dawn of rats is about a molesting priest getting what he truly deserves in retribution to the raped, that’s fucking anti hero glory right there, and it hits all my favorite marks still mitigating the evil doer and all that jazz but it was for a just cause lmao 😂 the human mind is an enigma but I really enjoyed that story! Thank you guys!
@@juansakura2868 That's a very pretentious, solipsist viewpoint. You make it seem as if they created the violence they have simply observed. If you set aside your fragilities; you would see past the gratuity and understand that they are evoking thought unto hidden, macabre facets of reality. The Window is an extremely vile, vulgar song about youth violated, but beyond that, it depicts the heinous deviancy of Gilles De Rais and contradicts the delusions of the idealistic. The song Receipt is about suicide and carries the same purpose; to make apparent the fact that the world is far from perfect. How can one merely champion philosophy when atrocity exists? Do you not proliferate, consume, and destroy? If you can't see the "life" in the lyrics, you should try roaming past your sensitivities and broadening your scope. It is unfair that you judge others as limited, whilst peering through a narrow bias of cognition.
TBDM's guitar work has changed so much since bringing in Brandon Ellis, they use more of a thrashy sound nowadays it seems, its a great sound but I like the guitar work they did before "Nightbringers" a bit better. Verminous and Nightbringers are some super cool badasseries tho. But The album's before that are a collection of way awesome radical ultra killer guitar riffs. I wish I could play guitar with these guys. Brian is a rhythm master.
Depending on which box set you got, some didn’t get shipped out yet. I’m one of the unlucky ones lol which is fine because I would’ve waited until it came out on Apple Music. Haven’t opened any of my black dahlia albums since like deflorate
My first listen I noticed they lifted a lyric from one of my fav hardcore bands, Indecision: "No heaven, no hell, no here, no now". Mad respect for having such a multifaceted musical taste. The song that came from, which I highly recommend, is Purgatory. I read an interview with them where Trevor talked about his love for Indecision. A few years ago even talked about an EMO band him and I both loved, Elliott. Their album 'False Cathedrals' is a masterpiece.
The Wereworm's Feast is one of my favorite TBDM tracks ever made and that's from someone who has been aboard since Miasma. Verminous is a way more potent release than Abysmal and even Nightbringers IMO. I don't think they hit this kind of new peak since Ritual, at least in terms of song writing, not so much regarding lineup changes.
I absolutely agree man. Ritual has been their high-mark for me ever since it released. But this album comes damn close to dethroning it...I think there are some better songs on Verminous, but I think overall Ritual still takes it. It seems we both agree though that this is definitely a leap up from Nightbringers and Abysmal. And Everblack is my least favorite BDM album, so yea.
That song Godlessly is so sick. Trevors vocals are hands down the most complete. Been with you boys since 01’ and you never fail to amaze and produce another spectacular album. Bummed I don’t get to see y’all on 4/20 but soon enough!
TBDM are the Slayer of modern metal. It's a way for everyone in the community to bond over a bomb ass band that is fucking awesome live and has never stopped making incredible albums that embody their genre to it's core.
This band has really grown into a monster.. They started out as heavy metal lords and they have become like the strongest metal band to happen in my life time..
Fack....this is a pretty badass release with some groovy BDM tracks. Got through track 6 and I already have to post. ;) Sunless Empire and The Leather Apron's Scorn had my head moving and playing air drums...my daughter walked by the office and was like WTF are you doing Dad?
Sunless empire sounds like nothing I've ever heard before from TBDM. But yet I like it so much among the entire album. Initially it felt out of place but the second half of the song is a whole new experience. I'm extremely satisfied and relieved the new line up is shifting and adding more spice to themselves. Most of us would probably be fine with normal TBDM sound we know for close to 20 years. But I enjoy this new flavoring very much.
@@reckoningchino unfortunately you're right. I was wowed by the album at first. But it soon washes out on me. I do enjoy and appreciate what Brandon bought to the table. But I find I enjoy the older albums of riff masterclasses better. Way more dark, brutal and powerful. This album felt a bit more "mainstream" to me. Especially the last two songs. Made me recall listening hangar 18 or some sort of megadeth tune. And I get it totally after I read a interview that brandon did do covers of megadeth in the deluxe edition of this album while recording and provided ideas on tons of tracks on album. I dont despise or hate that side of things, just that I prefer TBDM for a certain sound they maintained over the years. The grinding part of child at night is my favorite part about this entire album. since 2009 this band started to have tons of great leads and solos and I certainly enjoys it but I would prefer not to let go too much of dark and powerful riffs(think what nocturnal offers in terms of riffing.). It's all about balance and mixing things and this time round the balance is slightly off for me.
I'm so glad that after a decade of listening and learning their material on guitar I got to see them live a few weeks ago they hit every fucking note perfectly I love their melodies and black metal tendencies incredible band from every aspect
The leather apron's scorn is seriously a beast and a half. Shit, I appreciate this group so fucking much the passion that they posses is unending and it speaks for itself. The entire formula is solid af, crafted with pure love and sick precision. They really do this shit, real deal, when push comes to shove they go straight for the throat lol. they are genuine and consistent with the output of their work and some other bands should take some notes. Lol hail the immortals, nightbringers. Much respect and mad appreciation BDM,
How the fuck do these fools never miss? Some of the most consistently breathtaking music I’ve ever heard There hasn’t been a single album yet in which not every every song is a banger
Still don't know how I feel about this album. On the one hand, it's the new album from my favourite mdm band (haven't missed a single release since Unhallowed) and I enjoy the experiments and changes the band implement. On the other hand, the solo parts are weaker comparing to those from Nightbringers (still awesome though and Sunless Empire's one is a masterpiece), less memorable riffs, just chords with melismatic ornaments. Listened to it 5 or 6 times, maybe it needs more time to dig.
@@tydendurler9574 I think they've just set an unreachable level with the previous record. "Nightbringers" had "Nocturnal"-style riffing and Brendon did outstanding lead work, it's like the best recipe for TBDM music. This one lacks something or the expectations have been too high.
Honestly my problem was it lacked pure aggression and catchiness. Other albums had insane tremolo picking and blast beats and gallop picking and just pure headbanging moments. Not to mention a lot more gutterals and the sort. This album is just a lot more... bare. No memorabilia.

What do you think of this CD. I only liked the last CD and this one. Vermionus is probably my favorite cd right now. In general and of the collection
@@aaron5222: Get a Rega Planar and start collecting Vinyl dude. You wouldn't like to play CD's if you get accustomed to spinning Vinyl records!
Removal of the oaken stake ughhh so good! I love this album. So many good tracks, it's crazy! Thanks for the album :)
Every song is amazing. But oaken stake has something special. I can’t get enough of it either. 🤘😫🤘
Yea no shit!!!! and The Wereworms Feast is another FAV
Such an insane record, I love the direction this album went in, the flavouring of Ellis is apparent in the groovy 80’s inspired riffs and that dudes fuckin vibrato!! Top of the black dahlia’s discography for me.
Completely agree!!!!
Listening to it for the third time today. This album is a killer
Ahh marry me 😍😭 🤘🤘😆
Honestly there best album since miasma

Another great record, thank you TBDM for all your hard work. But Brandon... for the solo in Sunless Empire, thank you so much. I can't even express how far out of every guitar player in the modern age's leauge that it is in terms of phrasing, feel, and tonality. It's like you're ripped straight out of Shrapnel from the 80s, you're a legend man and thanks for all the legendary solos and leads.
Truer words never spoken
Especially now since Trevor is gone, I can barely hold back tears when hearing Dawn Of Rats. You'll never be truly gone. ❤🤘
Words cannot express how awesome this album is. You only get better with time. lml
62 days later? The tease is out of this world level
You could say it’s a Verminous thing to do. Okay I’ll see myself out.
The album leaked 3 weeks ago
@@chadgautier2864 I still have to hear lol
They'll say: Quarantine 2020, i remember that. That's when TBDM release Verminous
OK you won me....this is the BEST TBDM album i have heard.........best album of the year so far...thanks Metal Blade Records.......
Dark, fast, but deeply melodic and a very interesting "progressive" approach throughout the album and within each song!!!
I felt like all the members expanded their skills and excelled on doing that🤘🏻
Loved the solo on Sunless Empire, and Godlessly and Removal of the Oaken Stake are great!!!
Great album!
EDIT: Dawn of Rats 😯😯😯😈😈😈
This album is growing on me. Takes a bit for everything to absorb. I prefer the production of their older records but there's some really good songs on here, Sunless Empire is my new favorite.
This cd is incredible. Definitely best album yet for BDM and probably best of the year for me
Aaron we’ll see. High on Fire release new album in 2 days 😉
What an overstatement... It's their weakest album of the last decade
@@soullessSiIence u do know no shit..back to eat paint from the wall man,
@@soullessSiIence maybe not the heaviest but as talent and progression goes it's definitely the best.
Songwriting wise, Brandon Ellis has been a massive shot in the arm for this band. what a great album.
I think his writing style has changed their music a bit. But still really good.
Brandon Ellis is a helluva lead, I'm glad that Ryan Knight recommended him. They played together in Arsis right? We are the nightmare was awesome

Removal of the oaken stake def one of My favorites on this album, those riffs just rip hard when you just got off work, driving in the hot sun blasting some good shit!
What sad day yesterday 😢.....R.I.P. Trevor.....
One of my top all time favorite bands.

Ross Delavan it’s something all of us here have in common. We don’t know each other. But in some ways we GET each other. This music means everything to me.

This just made my day in quarantine, thanks for the live stream. I hope some of those liquid vinyl albums are still available
What a record! It's the best 2020 album so far
For me this and Testament "Titans" neck and neck, both just phenomenal
That mini heart attack though..dont play us like this

Holy shit! I know the album is called "Verminous" but the solo on "Sunless Empire" is just... beautiful! Thank you Brandon Ellis! Thank you TBDM!
its fuckign insane
Not gonna lie, teared up a bit :,)
Thank God this solo is getting the attention it deserves, I've been playing guitar for 10+ years and I love the old Shrapnel shredders from the 80s and this solo almost had me in tears. Brandon is a fucking legend.
I concur on the highest apex of agreement
Here after hearing about Trevor's death. Fully cannot believe this is the last time we got to hear him
the wereworm's feast is something else. can't put my finger on it but i've been jamming to this one the most. this entire album is pretty incredible tho, and it's impressive how dahlia never fails to release something powerful. thanks for your hard work and dedication to bring us more of your awesome music, TBDM!
One of my all time favorite bands, these guys are amazing. I've been listening to them since 05 when I was living in North Carolina and bought their album Miasma. I personally don't think that they've ever made a bad a album.
Heyyyyy shout out I live in North Carolina
I have learned so much from this band.....in the guitar....in the lirycs....in music making...in life.......thanks for sharing this art with the world..........
Greetings from Colombia!!! you are the band that made me study more guitar and improve my skills since 2001! Saludos de su amigo Juan Cañón guitarrista de Titano Boa hardcore metal!!!!
This old man is actually excited about something!
Cómo pueden seguir sonando frescos y al mismo tiempo tan clásicos, TBDM por siempre, cheers
Concuerdo con tigo.
Thank you TBDM from Unhallowed to Verminous each song has elevated my concioussness. Your harmonies open my mind to new levels of understanding. Hail Satan!
@Jeff T I agree that at times their music sounds a little boring. I've moved onto other bands for sure the genres that influence TBDM are the best.
Brandon Barrow righteous! 🤘🏻
Christ, that spelling.
Or you could have preordered and already be driving around listening to it....like me 😎

@@Charles_Anthony this comment made me rethink the past ten years of my life
My first listen I noticed they lifted a lyric from one of my fav hardcore bands, Indecision: "No heaven, no hell, no here, no now".
This album is so damn spicy 😩 call the cdc cause its SO sick. Thank you BDM.
Nocturnal and Unhallowed is above these two in my opinion, then Verminous and Ritual maybe.
R.I.P. Trevor. Your contributions to death metal will never be forgotten.
throwback to early quarantine listening to the premier stream. the subtle black metal touch on this album is really what makes it great for me!
En hora buena, salvando la cuerentena.
I think Brandon summoned a little bit of Dimebag on that Sunless Empire solo. My god.
Not really
@@BJ.Cardoso That harmonic right in the beginning was very Eddie/Dimebag esque.
Well played, Metal Blade.
Thank you so much Metal blade records and the black dahlia murder for amaizing and beautiful album!
I've listened to this album so many goddamn times already. \m/
James Jin prolly the best song of the album in all its components and this is considering that the whole album is ridiculous
The riff at 16:34 is the best riff they've ever written.
RIP Trevor. Glad I got to see him perform at least once.
This album is an absolute masterpiece I can't stop listening to it from start to finish! Everything on it is so good!

Sounds like a great follow up to Nightbringers! My favourites are (after one full listening) Verminous, The Leather Apron's Scorn and Dawn of Rats
The Leather Apron's Scorn is just phenomenal, I have played that over and over, vicious track...album is incredible
Goodbye Trevor. I hope you've finally found peace, my brother. RIP. You will forever be missed. Heartbroken beyond measure.
This is such an amazing album!!!!!! I absolutely love it.
I'm so glad that after a decade of listening and learning their material on guitar I got to see them live a few weeks ago they hit every fucking note perfectly I love their melodies and black metal tendencies incredible band from every aspect
The lead guitar is insane on this album
Keep coming back for the intro but end up staying for the whole thing. Amazing album!
Can't wait for this epic display of bad assery.
Brando1982 yes sir
The leather apron's scorn is seriously a beast and a half. Shit, I appreciate this group so fucking much the passion that they posses is unending and it speaks for itself. The entire formula is solid af, crafted with pure love and sick precision. They really do this shit, real deal, when push comes to shove they go straight for the throat lol. they are genuine and consistent with the output of their work and some other bands should take some notes. Lol hail the immortals, nightbringers. Much respect and mad appreciation BDM,
How the fuck do these fools never miss? Some of the most consistently breathtaking music I’ve ever heard
There hasn’t been a single album yet in which not every every song is a banger
Still don't know how I feel about this album. On the one hand, it's the new album from my favourite mdm band (haven't missed a single release since Unhallowed) and I enjoy the experiments and changes the band implement. On the other hand, the solo parts are weaker comparing to those from Nightbringers (still awesome though and Sunless Empire's one is a masterpiece), less memorable riffs, just chords with melismatic ornaments. Listened to it 5 or 6 times, maybe it needs more time to dig.
Or...maybe...it's just not that good. Sadly
