Had a similar experience when we emigrated from the UK to British Columbia in 2016. Hiking close to the Washington border in the Cascades at the time and just a shirt drive from our front door 2 rocks thrown in front of us hit the same tree, both times in quick succession. Heard something heavy breaking brush above where the rocks came from. Had a dreadful sense of foreboding and we got out of the area very quickly. Not a good introduction to hiking and we live in an area we later found out with a long history of Sasquatch encounters. Can definitely relate to a sense of primal fear as we felt something was coming for us on the way back down the trail.

You really bring the stories to life by being on-site. You should put together a camping/hiking trip in one of the dark skies areas, where it is story telling time around the campfire. Thank you for all the work and effort you do to present these!
Chris did my story a few weeks ago under the title "Hikers Ignored WARNINGS and Went Anyway!" Thank you again Chris for that it was awesome to contribute to your channel. Regarding the Primal Fear aspect, as someone who has experienced it firsthand I can say it is like nothing you can imagine. Like he related in our story we were not the type that scared easily and we ended up running like terrified Children and we never actually saw it. The fear just switched on. In thinking about my experience and how it is identical to others, I wonder what it is that triggers it. I have heard that these creatures might use low frequency sound waves to induce the fear, or perhaps its a Pheromone that we cant actively smell but it goes straight to our primal center and triggers it. Whatever it is, the fear is obviously a survival instinct that we have and those things take a long long time to develop. Dr. Lloyd Pye theorized that these creatures are actually Neanderthals or some kind of offshoot.
Let me tell you, Chris, how much I adore you and your storytelling. I’ll try to make a long story short. I used to hike when I lived in Montana. This was back in the mid 90’s. I grew up in Memphis so the dry air of Montana in the summer was fantastic!!! I was a young girl, just in my early 20’s then. I modeled and was very active. (I’m currently 50 years old. ) Fast forward 27 years and I’m back in the southeast, married and developed diabetes. Last year I developed a serious infection in my foot and they would need to amputate my left leg. I was so sick. I was septic and on deaths door and had no idea! Thank God it a was below the knee amputation and not above. This was February 2022, and I’m now on my 3rd prosthetic which is pretty fast for the time frame. I’m doing better than I ever imagined. Your videos have inspired me to get back on the trail and start hiking again. I am forever grateful that I came across your channel. You seem like someone who I would hang out with. I love your personality and your storytelling has been such a gift to me and many others. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, Chris. ❤❤❤
You would really like the Disney/National Geographic series with Albert Lin, who explores remote historic and archeological sites in VERY difficult terrain despite having a below-knee amputation. He was very active and lost his lower leg in a motorcycle accident but has a state of the art prosthesis and climbs mountains, goes into subterranean caverns, treks in jungles, etc.
I've been missing your older content when you would hike, camp and cook, so I love that you mixed that into this video.. Good storytelling as always Mr Chris!!
Good story, great storytelling! You really turned up the intensity by going to the actual location, Chris. I really loved this one! Also, I listen to my gut, if it makes sense to or not. That gut feeling and primal fear shouldn’t be ignored, IMO.
The storytelling, the scenery, and the beer are always so cozy and satisfying. Like a warm blanket in wintertime or a cup of good coffee with a cherished friend. Your channel is a wholesome highlight of our Sundays and a wonderful blessing. Keep it up!
Hi Chris. I recently started watching your channel and I really like it. It has amazing charm. It's very nice to watch you walk in the mountains, with all the streams and beautiful trees around. I like how you talk about different objects, lamps, sleds, tents. And of course the stories are incredibly interesting. I feel that this will be my favorite channel for long autumn evenings. Greetings from Poland! Keep hiking! (and don't forget to pack potato chips) ^_^
Hi Chris, thank you for taking us on the real journey of what happened and where it happened. It was for real. Also, you seemed abit spooked when nightfall came as you kept looking side to side. The drive into the night was so epic! You nailed it again!
Retracing the storytellers' paths is such a great twist to what you're doing!!!😊 Having you cook at the end reminded me of your older videos when you would "take us" camping with you!!! So fun.
Hi Chris - bravo! Taking us to the exact location was a master stroke and gave me a feeling of real connection to the drama. This episode was absolute tops of so many fabulous episodes! For me, primal fear is totally connected to the flight component of the fight-and-flight response. It begins in the brain and goes straight to the gut, the bladder can let us down and the strongest urge is to RUN. Good that the hunters all went with their instincts to leave and no-one opposed that decision. Did you feel spooked out there?!! Keep hiking Chris, and keep safe - kiwi Linda 😊
speaking of that fight or flight fear, when we had our ufo sighting I was so full of fear I had to hold on to the barn wall to keep from falling over! When I think of the experience I still trembke a
Wow. That was a good one. You worry me sometimes. Primal fear is a fear you don't question or think twice about. You move and quickly. It's a high alert knowing to get away. And not to look back. I really wish you would have someone with you on these trips you take. You just never know when something is going to happen. And it usually does when your not expecting it. I've had that experience a few times. Be careful out there Chris. Thank you for doing what you do. I really enjoy watching . Only because I believe bigfoot is real.
Chris, thanks for your Sunday tales and for putting this one together right where the encounter happened. I watch your stories every Sunday, without fail. Thank you so much for your efforts in entertaining us, and bringing these true stories. Also, thank you for opening your platform to people who have actually seen or had experiences with these beings.
Your creativity is incredible! I love how you went to the place where the story was and recreated it, just amazing! What a great story. I have to be honest, I’m not so much a fan of CA due to their laws, high cost of living, and taxes, but you do a great job at showcasing the beauty of it!
Chris, how did you feel being in the same area as those men? When I hear about hunters getting scared of something they can't see, I think they know their guns won't be of any use. Great storytelling 👍
Yes I was thinking the same thing. Being there were it took place. Amazing story those seasoned hunters packing up and leaving wow great story thanks to all for letting Cris know and thank you Cris ❤
Are they think there gun isn't big enough. I think if will be a big mistake shot one or shooting at one because they are always others around also you don't see
You never disappoint with your stories! Btw, I know what I’m having for dinner, 🍣 salmon! Lol quick, easy and healthy!! You always make the good look so good! Happy Sunday everyone!
-> Had grilled salmon yesterday, yummy!! 🐟 Stanislaus area is so beautiful.. Great storytelling!! 🏕️ Divine Angelic Safeguarding, & Many Abundant & Ultimate Blessings, ALL!! 😻🙇🏻♀️🙏🏼🕊️👼🏻🌻🌄🌤️
Wow Chris you are one brave dude to be at the 'scene of the crime' and tell this story! Good call for the guys to leave when they did, like you said, they had many warnings they weren't wanted there. Keep hiking!! :o)
I’ve retold a lot of these stories around our backyard campfire. Family and friends eat them up! So it has become a tradition. Their favorite is the “FROM ME” story of the Montana solo camper running after finding his tent in a tree. Townsends, Cowboy Kent Rollins and Basecamp Chris are by far my favorite channels and all have had a positive influence in my life. We need more wholesome content like these! Also, we get Sierra Nevada beer where I am across the country. I must say it’s darn fine stuff.
I think primal fear can even happen in your own home. Just like unexplained sounds that wake you up. Most of the time it's something natural such as a varmint messing with the trashcan. You never know whether it's an intruder or what. Primal fear may be the natural reaction to survive an unwanted situation.
Omg the fact that you are on location brings this story to a whole other level. Every moment I am scanning the trees thinking any moment now somethings going to happen, officially sitting on the edge of my seat!!
Hi there Chris! I have been binging on episodes I've been saving up from your channel. I have enough saved up to binge listen all day and into the night. You hiked out there and fixed yourself dinner, just to show us the beautiful views and tell us stories? You are amazing, dude! LOL Thank you for all your work and the effort you put into making the stories more real, more fun, and more exciting. You always help take my pains away, too! Oh and when you tossed that first stone, it scared the crap outta me! Just FYI
Your being right there where those 4 guys had been and the nighttime dinner back at camp were almost as scary as the story. Actually, 3 stories. Good story telling, and I felt like I was right there. Seems like there are many sightings in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Must be the corporate "office" for Sasquatches. The salmon dinner really looked good. A great Friday night routine for you and Jeannette. Thanks Chris for another Sunday night chiller. The dark road on the drive out was spooky too. Take care.
I was at Hochatown Oklahoma, not far from Broken Bow OK taking a walk at night up a hill near our cabin. When all of a sudden I felt that primal fear and took off back down to the cabin!! I was fine walking until I got about half way up the hill. I’ve always wondered why I felt so scared so fast. I think you answered my question with your story. Thank you!
It amazes me how you do these stories in a creepy forest in the first place, but the fact that you went to the actual place, tracing their every footstep and moment in the exact location is leaving me speechless. I could never lol. Great storyteller you are!!!
On location!! This might be my new favorite video by you! Thanks Chris for the amazing entertainment! You know my experience, I had a high power rifle laying right next to me, but I didn't even consider using it
If I were Bigfoot.that's exactly where I would live. That forest is as big as some European countries. Are you out there alone? Thanks for these remarkable videos.
For some of you folks that have just started listening to Base camp Chris, this is a classic BCC story! Story's like this is what got me hooked listening to him. What a great story based in Alpine County where the unexplained things happen when you're camping. Chris you finished the story with a nice Salmon dinner which is another testament to old school BCC. Thank you for sharing and going back to your roots. KH!
You are a brave man Chris, lol. I don't think I could go to the exact spot, by myself, at night, knowing the story that they told you. It was fun to listen and watch you be there though 😂🙌
Maybe not tonight because you said there were other vehicles there, but when you are alone in the dark somewhere do you ever get creeped out? Especially if telling these stories.
They are a species of Great Ape.... very intelligent.... opportunistic.... adapted to the forests of North America. We need to leave as much land protected as possible. Nature needs it's space too!! Fearing and respecting a being that can, but chooses not to kill you, is just common sense!! Excellent story, as usual!! 😊❤ Excellent dinner too!!
Chris, superb story! I have to ask: do YOU ever get creeped out or have that primal fight-or-flight feeling when you tell stories in the exact same place where they were experienced? It might be neat to do a sort of post-mortem on some of these places! Stay safe, and KEEP ON HIKING ❤
Awesome new wrinkle of being on location where the story took place!! And back in the beautiful sierras. Didn't you feel the primal fear when you had one behind your tent at night? Excellent, episode, Chris-keep hiking!

I love your videos, Chris. I wish I could have a new video everyday from you. It is super thrilling watching you in these beautiful places, drinking a beer and telling us a story. By the way, I always end up drinking a beer too, because of you. Thank you very much for your nice posts. 🤣😂🤣🍺🍻
The best yet! Love this episode. I appreciate all the additional reenactments; ie the flying rocks. The fact that it is shared in about the same location it all occurred. How cool. Stay safe. My prayers for you would be to NEVER encounter what you tell stories of. Your stories would stop. These encounters are real as I know someone who encounter such a being in the backwoods of KY. She’s a reliable witness. 🦍 Thank you sharing your gift with all your viewers.
When I had an experience (just audible, not visual), once I came to the conclusion of what it might be, I froze. I was literally petrified. People say that, but I never knew what it meant until then. I had always thought up to that point that it would be cool to hear or see a sasquatch, but when it really did happen, I wanted to get away and never come back.
First off I love your channel and never miss a story. This is totally unrelated to what you talk about but I know primal fear, my ex husband was very abusive in our almost 20 years together and I still suffer from what I went through. Loud noise’s that I’m not expecting and someone coming up to me from behind without my knowledge scares me to the point I could jump out of my own skin. I hate being this way and I think I have a form of ptsd from the abuse I experienced.
I am so sorry to hear about the abuse you suffered. My ex verbally abused me, but when he threw s coffee mug and hit my elbow is when I made plans to divorce him. But I got saved and Jesus has healed all my soul wounds!
I love the places you go. I don’t think I have a primal fear button. I do have lots of common sense. Like the hunters, I would know when it is time to go.
That’s the kind of fear that can save your life. There have been quite a few times where if I hadn’t listened to that feeling that something wasn’t right or well with a situation, that I probably wouldn’t be here typing this now. Each time in the moment, I probably couldn’t have explained what it was. But that instinct needs no explanation. Listen to it, ALWAYS!
This is one of the better videos I’ve seen on RUclips in a long time. Highly entertaining. Thanks for adventuring out there and telling the tale 👍 I would have loved to be out there with you doing the exact same thing.

I really liked this. The little extra bits with the rocks to seeing you cook. The story, as always, wonderfully told. Thanks once again Chris, both for the story and the effort you put into these. I look forward to the next one!
Great idea to go on location and see where these events actually took place. It makes the story much creepier. I imagine that it is scarier for you as well Chris.
When I saw Sasquatch I was so scared I couldn't move for about 15 minutes. i had to talk myself into moving. My binoculars were hanging from my neck but I couldn't move to pick them up. My rifle was in my left hand, couldn't move. Finally got moving but kept my eyes glued to the Bigfoot.
So a number of armed men on 3 different occasions went to where you are and had independent experiences and you thought you would go at night to tell their story. You have balls my friend! I am subscribed just on the strength of that. Kudos!! ......and you are frying fish? lol.

You really bring the stories to life by being on-site. You should put together a camping/hiking trip in one of the dark skies areas, where it is story telling time around the campfire. Thank you for all the work and effort you do to present these!
Tours with base camp Chris. People would come 👍
@@cchawk6280 Oh yes indeed! I know I would be interested. Though I imagine he would have to keep the group small for the right dynamic.
That would be fun!! Thanks!😮⛺️🌲c kh!
Yes, that would be lots of fun. Story telling around a campfire with Chris.
Plus, hiking beforehand 😬 😳
That would be the best time ever.
Ohhhhhh....can hardly wait !
Sheesh....most excellent story Base Camp sir !
Wow! Great information - Thank you! C
@@basecampchris Chris, you are the best brother.
I loved your story!!!
Also... have you checked out Sasquatch Ontario and his work on the salsa Sasquatch subject? If not you really should.
@@sheilayoung6590 I will definitely check that out. thanks!
Overactive imagination is overactive
Question 🙋♂️ Have you ever had any type of experience while you’ve been telling a story on video? Or while camping and filming?
No response would have been better than a logo.
@@brigitte9999I love the logo. Like a handshake from Chris himself. ❤
there's an older video where he talks about getting spooked at night in the forest
theres a video that says My Encounter, pretty sure thats his encounter
Oh - Thank you so much! Glad you are hiking and staying active...good for the heart and soul! KH! Chris🐻
Hi, I’m glad to hear you are doing much better and can go Hiking again. Best of luck to you.
Bless you, and having been through SO much! My prayers for good health are with you. Keep hiking!
Good morning Chris 🎉 I truly appreciate your time and effort and experience you put in these beautiful videos. Thank you. Keep on hiking! ❤
The rock throwing reenactment gave me chills! That would be terrifying! Another banger! Thanks Chris, stay safe! 🌲💚🌲
Glad you enjoyed it!!🐻🌲
Loved this one! Great story as usual. Thanks for all the work you put in to these. We appreciate it!!!
Your stories are always so entertaining, and I love when you cook, your jokes got me giggling!!!
I've been missing your older content when you would hike, camp and cook, so I love that you mixed that into this video.. Good storytelling as always Mr Chris!!
More to come!
I agree, that salmon in olive oil looked yummy! He's good at gourmet cooking in the open air.
Keep it up!
Thank you so much!!! 🎃⛺️🌲c kh!
Awesome- thanks! My best… c⛺️🌲🐻
Hi Chris, thank you for taking us on the real journey of what happened and where it happened. It was for real. Also, you seemed abit spooked when nightfall came as you kept looking side to side. The drive into the night was so epic! You nailed it again!
Retracing the storytellers' paths is such a great twist to what you're doing!!!😊
Having you cook at the end reminded me of your older videos when you would "take us" camping with you!!!
Thanks kiwilinda! 🌲
Thats pretty spooky going to the same place they won't go back to!!!
speaking of that fight or flight fear, when we had our ufo sighting I was so full of fear I had to hold on to the barn wall to keep from falling over! When I think of the experience I still trembke
a
tremble not trembke!q
Always spellbinding! Can't wait for these Sunday uploads! Thanks, Chris!
Sunday morning coffee with Chris - doesn't get much better!
Thank you so much!⛺️🌲🐻
You are very keen to be back in this area knowing what you do!!! Watch those bears, all the best from NZ.
Chris, how did you feel being in the same area as those men? When I hear about hunters getting scared of something they can't see, I think they know their guns won't be of any use. Great storytelling 👍
Yes I was thinking the same thing. Being there were it took place. Amazing story those seasoned hunters packing up and leaving wow great story thanks to all for letting Cris know and thank you Cris
❤
Are they think there gun isn't big enough. I think if will be a big mistake shot one or shooting at one because they are always others around also you don't see
@@bradleymadosh911oh I’ll show you a big gun

That’s awesome! Thanks ⛺️c
I love when Uncle Roger goes to cook with Cowboy Kent. Hilarious.
When Chris looks to the right and left while telling the story it adds an additional touch of creepy to the story
Take care.
Hello from Glasgow Chris! Excellent account and excellent story telling! Stay safe out there. Cheers.👍
Thanks, will do!
Thank you!
Brilliant storytelling as always Chris …love the reenactment and sound effects. Always interested in seeing what others cook for camp meals…yummm 😃
It amazes me how you do these stories in a creepy forest in the first place, but the fact that you went to the actual place, tracing their every footstep and moment in the exact location is leaving me speechless. I could never lol. Great storyteller you are!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you! C
On location!! This might be my new favorite video by you! Thanks Chris for the amazing entertainment! You know my experience, I had a high power rifle laying right next to me, but I didn't even consider using it
Its good to see another new Chris video!
Cheers! 🍻
More to come!⛺️🎃🌲c
The reenactment of the story is a GREAT addition to your story telling. It just takes it to a whole nother level. really enjoyed it.
Yes, and we don’t want them coming out of the woods!
I think they are some type of hominid, definitely more intelligent than a primate. Especially being able to mimic human speech to a degree.
I love the added element of telling the story in the actual location! I always look forward to the next video. Thanks for the great stuff!
I appreciate all the work you put into your story telling. I enjoy your videos. I noticed Wild Man was carved in the table you were eating on.
This is one of the best you've done. I think by going to the scene really paints a picture of what happened in the best way possible! Great job!
Thank you so much 😀
Thanks Chris for a great Story from the UK 😀👍🏻
Chris, superb story! I have to ask: do YOU ever get creeped out or have that primal fight-or-flight feeling when you tell stories in the exact same place where they were experienced? It might be neat to do a sort of post-mortem on some of these places!
Stay safe, and KEEP ON HIKING ❤
Awesome new wrinkle of being on location where the story took place!! And back in the beautiful sierras. Didn't you feel the primal fear when you had one behind your tent at night? Excellent, episode, Chris-keep hiking!
ive been watching you for a year now, i told my mom about you about six months ago and we find the time to watch your show every sunday, we love your special effects you do during the story, my mom has a story she would like to email you about something we experienced in colorado a couple years ago, ive listened to several other shows but i think you are the best by far, keep it up
Hey Chris,
Thanks for a
telling us so many awesome stories.
With that out of the way, . . I m not sure I can cope with you doing the whole , " in their footsteps " thing. I nearly had a nervous breakdown watching you there. 😅

I know what you mean, I was thinking, so these well armed guys hightail it out of there and Chris is thinking, Oh I know the perfect place to camp alone! No thanks.

I love your videos, Chris. I wish I could have a new video everyday from you. It is super thrilling watching you in these beautiful places, drinking a beer and telling us a story. By the way, I always end up drinking a beer too, because of you. Thank you very much for your nice posts. 🤣😂🤣🍺🍻
I’ve lived by a motto most my life: Never walk into a situation you can’t walk out of.
Wow this story telling in actual locations is amazing! Top notch stuff. Thank you.
🦍
Thank you sharing your gift with all your viewers.
Thank you for sharing that…the fear can be overwhelming
This is RUclips not some trauma dump website fix yourself fool
I love the places you go. I don’t think I have a primal fear button. I do have lots of common sense. Like the hunters, I would know when it is time to go.
That’s the kind of fear that can save your life. There have been quite a few times where if I hadn’t listened to that feeling that something wasn’t right or well with a situation, that I probably wouldn’t be here typing this now. Each time in the moment, I probably couldn’t have explained what it was. But that instinct needs no explanation.
Listen to it, ALWAYS!
Yes - it can guide you...to think larger than the moment and what is important.
We camp at pacific valley every year
Love walking upstream to the second meadow
Best video yet I wish I could like more than once 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
This is one of the better videos I’ve seen on RUclips in a long time. Highly entertaining. Thanks for adventuring out there and telling the tale 👍 I would have loved to be out there with you doing the exact same thing.

Great idea to go on location and see where these events actually took place. It makes the story much creepier. I imagine that it is scarier for you as well Chris.
Great story Chris really cool that you were actually at that location
I love watching the scary trips at night, you walk after your stories. Be safe out there!❤
When I saw Sasquatch I was so scared I couldn't move for about 15 minutes. i had to talk myself into moving. My binoculars were hanging from my neck but I couldn't move to pick them up. My rifle was in my left hand, couldn't move. Finally got moving but kept my eyes glued to the Bigfoot.
Thank you CK! I can't imagine! I have heard for some with a direct encounter it is hard to look away.
