But this is pretty different than the Boonar, with the ability to select the heads and all. I have the El Capistan and it seems like the Gecko would complement rather than replace...
This may be considered “Echoplex heresy”, but I actually prefer the more neutral sounding preamp in the Geckoplex over the traditional EP3 preamp sound. It still sounds “warm”, but without the tonal coloration. I realize that the preamp colorization is a big part of the EP3 vibe, but I have always had a love/hate relationship with it. If I want that sound I can always add a Clinch EP Pre before it. I love the Geckoplex, and I love it even more at 12 volts, definitely more “bounce” to the repeats and feels livelier under the fingers.
this is way cool. I've always wanted a delay pedal where i could change the speed of my delays with the tap of a switch for that swirl. had I just not bought a fuzz this would've taken my money. Hopefully I can get one soon! Thanks for making me aware of this awesome pedal!
@@jamiemorgan4146 Undoubtedly yours is a great pedal. As far as the feature set, though, they are really in two separate categories. If you ever decide you would like a pedal that has programmable presets, tap tempo with subdivisions, sound on sound looping, an independent reverb, separate wet/dry outputs, trails, and that is fully handmade and individually numbered, then I'll be here for you!
I’m an Echoplex nut. I have to be very honest, in all of the Demos that I’ve heard so far, this can’t come near the sound of the BED. I love the auto slider, the look and level meter, but so far, the Geckoplex doesn’t sound warm to me. Nothing like a real EP3 or the BED. I really wanted to like this. Maybe no one’s recorded it correctly yet? Please change my mind ..
Definitely go with whatever sounds best to your ears! Nothing will ever succeed in pleasing everyone. It is its own creation, with a very clean preamp that was designed to be neutral. Since the preamp is always on, this avoids any permanent coloration of the sound in your signal path. As far as sounding "warm", the term "warm" is an interesting and fairly subjective one that seems to mean different things to different people. I think how most people would define it as a sort of "bias toward the bass and mid frequencies". By that definition, neither the EP3 nor anything that sounds like it should really sound "warm", and the EP3 is well known to have echoes actually trail toward higher frequencies, i.e. less "warm".
Looks like a fantastic pedal but I hear too much modulation but I see that is controllable. To my ear tape echo is about the level of degradation of the repeat rather modulation but this looks great.
Can’t find much info on the wet dry output, guessing this is fairly explanatory but would be great to get a take on its application and how the dry output might be used. Does the the boost/ preamp stay engaged. Through the dry output to drive both amps. Have emailed gecko for shipping to uk 🇬🇧 info if possible
We weren't recreating any specific song, of course, because you get in trouble if you do that on RUclips, so the chords are just perfect as they are. Thanks for the constructive comment, tho!
@@pedaloftheday ok i did not think about this you are right and sorry for the inconvenience i just have the need to say the right chords because i was playing wrong many songs many years
The best tape style echo out right now...second to none, and I've had them all at one time.
Copped one after watching this. Replaced my Boonar Echorec and DD-3 such an amazingly crafted pedal.

Makes sense to me. I don't want everything to be a gain stage...

For me, ‘warmth’ in an EP-3 would be in the way higher frequencies saturate into beautiful harmonics rather than bring piercing or getting shaved off.
What is a BED?
Well, damn!
Slider is a design coup! Wow….
