Opening The Horizon Express Lego Train Set

  • It was my birthday at the end of August and I decided to treat myself to not just one, but two of these great train packs from Lego. Lego have called it 'The Horizon Express' but it's obviously the French TGV from the 1980s - a train that was a firm favourite of mine whilst I was growing up. To see this train recreated out of Lego bricks and even better to see it coupled up to a second set really is jaw-dropping. In this video I show you the contents of 'The Horizon Express' set as well as laying out the pieces, assembling each unit and then taking a look at some of its features.

Great RUclips clip, I thought it would be fairly small, but using your hands as a comparison the set would be quite huge! Always a great review and huge thumbs up be me! I was in to Lego big time when I was younger but never ventured in to the Train Sector of the Lego! It’s been great watching you slowly put it all together! It’s never straight out of the box and run, which is what makes it stand out from just about all other reviewers I’ve watched you do! Love to hear your excitement and enthusiasm whenever I watch you! There should be two thumbs up for this Lego Set! Lego, where your imagination runs wild with endless possibilities! Well done for getting to the end! The ending had a bit of BTTF feel to it, where Doc wanted the train destroyed.... funny enough another Robert Lee Zemeckis Film, who also made Polar Express! Great ending!

I cannot believe how exciting your assessment of the lego TGV was. please keep up the fantastic work.
In the first instance I am a passionate lego train collector and what would make me very happy would be a review of the maersk train.
I know I'm being really cheeky but you are seriously a million times better than all the other reviewers on RUclips and I would not even consider asking for such a thing.
nice car design by the way, I have a degree in Architecture, and I use lego to influence my work.
    many thanks

Another great Video InterCity82 . I am really happy that the IC82 The LEGO Collection Videos has started seeing as we have waited over a year for them to come out. I would love to come to your house helping build your LEGO Trains Sets, and to have a piece as well. I also loved the Creeper from Minecraft effects added into it, hearing the Creeper sound twice, and then blowing the Emerald Knight Locomotive. That was an amazing way for you to introduce you building the Emerald Knight Set on camera.

Excellent video, loved the stop motion and the ending, made me laugh :) The train itself and the level of detail looks excellent, much better than I thought it would be. Thanks for the many days effort in making it. I also liked how you kept moving the second box around at the start like you wanted to show the complete train but they aren't printed in opposite directions :) - Sim

As a polar express fan, it's a Berkshire Locomotive, and although the Emerald Night "ALMOST" looks like it, you would need another set of drive wheels and switch the trailing trucks with the front (excuse the proper name) plus add about five cars behind and you will have an express

The pantographs are designed to fall away if there's any kind of obstruction, that's why there are two, they are designed to fall backwards, so depending on the direction of the train is moving dictates which is used. For example (prototypically) the front (pull) engine would have its most rear pantograph up, and the rear (push) engine would have its most forward one (nearest coaches) up. If you have a play you'll notice those two fall back when you push them down.

Those pantographs on the TGV are a lot more complicated than I thought
On LGVs, high speed lines, only the rear pantograph is used because raising both would cause oscillations in the catenary. The front power car is supplied via a high voltage cable running along the roof, which the LEGO model correctly features :)
There are 2 different sets of pantographs for AC and DC depending on where it's running. On DC it has to use both pantographs, and both AC ones are used on lower speed AC lines

  • @JulieAV
    @JulieAV 10 лет назад

    Nice legs!
From what I heard, the two pantographs are used at the same time because, at the voltages used, a spark on sole pantograph would cause a power surge that would damage the locomotive.

The front pantograph would be for forward, and the back one would be reverse. This way you aren't pushing the pantograph, as it would cause a lot of damage. Thus you have to pull it. Hope that made sense!

They have two pantographs because they run on lines with 2 different voltages e.g. 25kv on LGV lines and 1500v in Belgium. Same with the Eurostar.
