Bachmann cheated and used a class 158 chassis the IE2700 looks completely different The IE2700 was indeed withdrawn and put up for sale but are currently decommissioned
Love the review. I have bought this set the other day and while waiting for it to arrive i thought id check out a video of it. Really was pleased and i know ive made the right choice. Picked up a Murphys Models Class 071 in IÉ freight livery the other day and the detail is astounding. If you loved the DMU you will love this. Subscribed and look forward to looking at all your other videos.
I’m from Ireland so I would know the railway pretty well. Fun fact these units were withdrawn the year before this video came out. A manager at Heuston told me that they and the 8200 DARTs are gonna be scrapped soon.
Sorry to say it is a 158 bachmann just painted it in the Irish livery. Glad to see your reviews are coming thick and fast it's always a pleasure watching your reviews Cheers mate all the best
Excellent video and your question about 2700s being withdrawn is indeed true. These trains have been withdrawn unfortunately but a very similar class the 2600 still runs today in places like Cork. But they aren't the only types of train in Ireland. There is the 22000 class DMU, the 29000 class DMU, the 201 class+Mark 4 Intercity trains and the Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART) trains.
I saw them running a couple of weeks ago, it was running on a second line from manulla junction to ballina in the west of ireland in the county of mayo, but most of this trains are out now and they use all the same boring trains for most of the rails. I love your videos
We are still using them for commuter journeys on outskirts of cities. The 2200\ICR are used for all intercity journeys except dublin-cork (uses mark4 also by CAF) and Dublin Belfast which uses the Enterprise sets
It is very similar to a class 158. A note for anyone thinking of getting one, remember in Ireland they have a different gauge of 5'3 as opposed to standard 4'8,1/2, so authentically it can only run with other Irish items rather than British or other standard gauge items.
Iarnród Éireann is a state run Railway so that's why it has Commuter on the DMU. Our Intercity trains have Intercity on the I'm a different Livery and then our Freight Locos have their own Livery also.
Another great Video InterCity82 . Well done. I am looking forward to your next Review in IC82 Series 4. I quite surprised though that Bachmann Branch-Lines gave the title of the Train Set an Irish name, seeing that people like me, will not have an idea of how to say it and what it means.
They were all taken out of service by September 2012. One of the new sets they use is called IE 22000 Class. Pop onto Wikipedia and type in Irish Rail and there are pictures on there.
the IE 2700/2750 dmu were part the commuter fleet side of the IE network and as you said they have been withdrawn for sale and storage, what IE is currently running in the 2700/2750's place is the 2800 series DMU which is a 2 car set, which came into service since 2000, and the other is the 29000 series DMU, which is a 4 car set. i hope this info helps IC82
They haven't been replaced. They are still in use on the Limerick -Ballybrophy line and on the Cork to Cobh and Midleton line but it differs between the class 2700, 2800 and rarely the class 2600. But the main rolling stock used across the network are 22000 and suburban journeys around Dublin, Meath, Louth and Longford. P.S. Like the video.
We are still running a train line and the class 2700 is still used as a commuter to transport people from cork to Cobh or midelton or down the coast of Dublin bay to bray or greystones. We have inter city's That trasport Us to Galway,Cork,Limreck,Waterford,Wesport,Balina and Tralee Hope it helped you out
Working fine for me ashotofJD... Great video Will, as you say it looks like a lovely DMU! I know you haf some difficulty with the couplings but I really like the movement on them as it corners. Thought you did nicely with the pronunciation by the way :) - Sim
Their still around, in the Cork region and aren't so common any more (replaced by silver ones with green roofs). The livery is accurate but the roof should have ridges in it. Iarnród Éireann should be pronounced Ear-in-road Air-in. Great video! I would love if you could do one of the Murphy Models's intercity locos please! Thanks!
Oh how things have changed in the two years that have passed since thedarkb's comment was posted...the entire fleet is being brought back from the dead and being refurbed and stuff...
I think people are misunderstanding me. It's the real loco I was talking about. So, in real life the 2700 is nothing like a Class 158. Even tho Bachmann have obviously used their 158 tooling to make the 2700 to keep costs down. I maybe didn't make myself properly clear but that's what I meant anyway.
Its very nice to include the guide stuff i did nit know how to do it when I got my first train set and i did not know how to do any thing like this comment if you think it helps new people to include the leaflets :)
Just the let you know Will the 2700's have unfortunately been withdrawn but fear not there are still 2 classes of Irish DMU available most notably called the IE Classes 22000 and 29000, the 22000 is their version of a voyager and the 29000 looks like a DMU version of a Class 92 lol
I'm not from Ireland, I'm from Holland, but I know where Commuter stands for. It is the name for Irelands sub-urban trains in the surroundings of Dublin, Cork and Limerick, basicly it is just a local train.
Hattons has had this set in the window for years, so long that the box has faded! They still want £96 for it though, what do you think is a good price for it?
I think people are misunderstanding me. It's the real loco I was talking about. So, in real life the 2700 is nothing like a Class 158. Even tho Bachmann have obviously used their 158 tooling to make the 2700 to keep costs down. I maybe didn't make myself properly clear but that's what I meant anyway. I also mention in the video I have obviously never seen a 2700 (I've never visited Ireland) and so how accurate the model was, is unknown to me.
Well the class 2700 was the commuter train before the class 22000 was introduced to Irish rail ps if you are from Ireland if so have you been to athboy? Also good comment kieran
This is a nice DMU InterCity82 . I have to admit, but I am not sure if it is the best DMU Bachmann Branch-Lines has ever done. I think the best DMU Bachmann Branch Lines ever made has to be The Blue Pullman that came out last, and that you also Reviewed in your IC82 Autumn Special No. 2 last Year.
its a 2car DMU, whether its based on the 158 model or not doesn't really matter, but DOES IT NEED the double worm drive and central motor like the Voyager?
Hi the box is right, the 2700's are gone The model isnt bad the biggest problem is that there should be 2 windows, a door, then 4 windows, a door then another 1 or 2 windows the class 150 is probably a better match to it.there are another two classes of similar design to the 2700's(2800 and 2600) and then 22k intercitys, Mk4's and die dietrichs for going to cork and belfast Up untill a few years ago most trains in Ireland were loco hauled, have a look around wikipidia as there's some info there
will the commuter livery is not fake that's what it says on the side of the train there is another 1 called the dart same livery kinda but it is a dart it is powerd not by track it is powerd from wieeres up above sorry for my spelling mistakes
eHattons still have this in stock, interestingly they have renamed it from Class 2700 to "Class 158-style". I think people are misunderstanding you because around 03:00 you say that its not a Class 158, its "very very different". But the fact is the model is a retooled Class 158. If you are reviewing locos you've never seen, do a quick Google Image or RUclips search to get an idea of what the real loco looks like. That way you go into filming prepared :)
Nice model, and I like Irish Rail. May not be a totally accurate model given the nerd alerts going on below, however when the 158s get withdrawn in time they might end up in Ireland once re-gauged for the track gauge there, and so one day a 158 in IE livery might be reality.
In reality, they are different units. In OO gauge, Bachmann have dressed their 158 model as a 2700, because of how similar they are. Nice review all the same though chief!
This model may not be accurate (It's really a 158) ;) however the quality is amazing! Especially, as you said will, as it's bundled with track! I wish they would have done the livery in a Northern livery or a Central trains livery in which I could relate to my layout.
RedfernModelRailway I know. Also, my layout is DCC so I have to wait for the next version of the 158. I'm not very good at DCC fitting a non DCC ready loco... Let's just say my 221 is sadly missed
Hi Will. Good review. Also to all the people saying this is a 158, it really isn't. I'm not Irish but I have looked into this. The reason why Bachmann have used a 158 Shape is to make the locomotive proportional to the track. The Irish 2700 have a track gauge of 1,600 mm (5 ft 3 in) whilst the British 158's have a track gauge of 1,435 mm (4 ft 8 1⁄2 in). So yes it looks like a 158, but only so the model can fit accurately on the track! And the model itself looks fantastic :)
Great review. Well done on the pronunciation, I'd almost believe you are a native Irish speaker :-) Trainbrain141 is right about the Murphy Models trains. You should get around to reviewing their locos if you can. Keep up the great reviews.
What Bachmann did was they didnt bother Modeling the Class 2700 so they used a 158 to repaint.. Very cheeky
Iarnród Eireann Trains I noticed as well. It’s very sneaky
At least it does strongly resemble a 2700 and it is easy to modify if you really want it to look more like them.
Reny Rex true lol
They are not Irish rails trains, just repainted Uk stuff.
James Johnston yup ik
Bachmann cheated and used a class 158 chassis the IE2700 looks completely different
The IE2700 was indeed withdrawn and put up for sale but are currently decommissioned
Well, they do look a bit similar so Bachman didn’t entirely cheat. A manager at Heuston told me that they and the 8200s are gonna be scrapped soon.

your right-Beautiful livery indeed.
Sorry to say it is a 158 bachmann just painted it in the Irish livery.

nice to see u doing something on my country thanks will!!!!!! get more irish trains
We are still using them for commuter journeys on outskirts of cities. The 2200\ICR are used for all intercity journeys except dublin-cork (uses mark4 also by CAF) and Dublin Belfast which uses the Enterprise sets
The commuter logo on the side is real I have been on one of these trains before when I went to visit my uncle who lives in Cork
It is very similar to a class 158.
A note for anyone thinking of getting one, remember in Ireland they have a different gauge of 5'3 as opposed to standard 4'8,1/2, so authentically it can only run with other Irish items rather than British or other standard gauge items.
its a buckeye coupler. Fabulous video! its actually the same tooling as the Bachmann class 158
Iarnród Éireann is a state run Railway so that's why it has Commuter on the DMU. Our Intercity trains have Intercity on the I'm a different Livery and then our Freight Locos have their own Livery also.

The trains in Ireland are GM 071class, darts, commuters , 201 class in Iarnród Éireann intercity livery and the enterprise from Dublin to Belfast.
When I was in Ireland, I rode those in 2010. I'm sorry to here they've gone.
I'm glad to hear that, but be easy on Will, I like him.
looks nice, another great opening, keep up the good work :)
They were all taken out of service by September 2012. One of the new sets they use is called IE 22000 Class. Pop onto Wikipedia and type in Irish Rail and there are pictures on there.
it is a class 158 as my dad works for northern rail and he said that there was an irish rail class 158 at Doncaster.
Brilliant Train!!!!!😃😀😄😊
the IE 2700/2750 dmu were part the commuter fleet side of the IE network and as you said they have been withdrawn for sale and storage, what IE is currently running in the 2700/2750's place is the 2800 series DMU which is a 2 car set, which came into service since 2000, and the other is the 29000 series DMU, which is a 4 car set. i hope this info helps IC82

Traintastic Trains 2600 and 2800 run the Cork to Cobh. 2700 are gone just like the 8200 Darts.
Nice review might get one myself
Super video well done.
i have n gauge bachmann trainset.when i move to america i hope to expand the set nice vid
Great video. Yes they were modernized and within 6 months they were withdrawn.
We are still running a train line and the class 2700 is still used as a commuter to transport people from cork to Cobh or midelton or down the coast of Dublin bay to bray or greystones. We have inter city's
That trasport Us to Galway,Cork,Limreck,Waterford,Wesport,Balina and Tralee
Hope it helped you out
No those are 2600's/... They'd be darts, and 29000s and the last lot would be 22000's, the only 2700 in cork is in the back of the shed in Kent.
a lovely model
Looks awesome!
Yes that is true, they are using 29000 and 22000 class, and please do come over!
nice model mate, it is a class 158 in a different guise though. :) I so want a class 158...
Great video I don't understand why these units were withdrawn they were very good
well done nice Irish train
Great Video Will, love Irish locos. Will you be getting the Hattons Limited Edition Beyer Garrat? That would make a cracking review!! :)
You did a good job on pronouncing Irish rail and you do great videos
The class 071,201 and 141 by Murphy Models are also excellent, perhaps some of the finest models on market at the moment
Great review & great set! :)
Working fine for me ashotofJD... Great video Will, as you say it looks like a lovely DMU! I know you haf some difficulty with the couplings but I really like the movement on them as it corners. Thought you did nicely with the pronunciation by the way :) - Sim
They used the 158 tooling so there are so many differences between the real thing and the models.
What do you plan to do with this one? Or was it just bought for playing with?
Looks good
That is one good DMU, great review! :D
Their still around, in the Cork region and aren't so common any more (replaced by silver ones with green roofs). The livery is accurate but the roof should have ridges in it. I never seen a train named that! By the way nice video
Its very nice to include the guide stuff i did nit know how to do it when I got my first train set and i did not know how to do any thing like this comment if you think it helps new people to include the leaflets :)
yes your right it is called the commuter it was for the the maynooth line and the main line
Just the let you know Will the 2700's have unfortunately been withdrawn but fear not there are still 2 classes of Irish DMU available most notably called the IE Classes 22000 and 29000, the 22000 is their version of a voyager and the 29000 looks like a DMU version of a Class 92 lol

i would also like to add that the 29000 series dmu has been in service since 2002
Nice vid! I might now go look at a DMU. I primarily run steam, but that is a really nice model!
Hattons has had this set in the window for years, so long that the box has faded! They still want £96 for it though, what do you think is a good price for it?
Has your American collection grown ever since you opened that Union Pacific engine?
if you meant hornby, he has done heaps of them (they're all on his channel)
Nice video Will! Keep it up!
It is a class 158 resprayed by Bachman
great vid
good way to telk others how to begin layoute=)
yes they do light up in both ways
It is a 158 painted in Irish Railways colours. Look at a class 2700 photo, its is nothing like what Bachmann have produced
I'm in love too !!!!!
yes they are gone they use class 2900s and no there not for sale they were modified for the limerick line
I think people are misunderstanding me. It's the real loco I was talking about. So, in real life the 2700 is nothing like a Class 158. No the 22000 was to replace loco hauls. the 2700 was replaced by the superior 2 car sets of 2600 and 2800's
Never herd of this class before

Pretty DMU. Wasn't expecting it to be Irish though, given that until this video, you had all British and American rolling stock.
Lol oh when you've said Ashens in the past I thought you were talking about the locos fire box. ;D.
They are still using them as commutors. CIE are using diesel drawn coaches or the class 22000
Will up until this video you where my only sub that didn't have an Ashens connection lol 0.o but love the DMU looks brilliant
The darts worth a mention, but what about the enterprise?! Last locomotive pulled train in Ireland iirc
its a 2car DMU, whether its based on the 158 model or not doesn't really matter, but DOES IT NEED the double worm drive and central motor like the Voyager?

The livery is correct however the DMU design itself is actually a 158, i addume they did this to save on machining costs
Hey Will when are you going to do a Lego train video?
Finally some got it right
hi will we use the class 2200, I'd known because I live there
In reality, they are different units. In OO gauge, Bachmann have dressed their 158 model as a 2700, because of how similar they are.

you know both of those exist :)
RedfernModelRailway I like sets XD
Julian Hornby + The northern rail one is hard to get hold of.
ahh, i see. unfortunately they don't make a set version...
RedfernModelRailway I know. Also, my layout is DCC so I have to wait for the next version of the 158. I'm not very good at DCC fitting a non DCC ready loco...
Let's just say my 221 is sadly missed
That's actually a class 2750. 2700's dont have baffles on the front and rear.
Hi Will. Good review. Also to all the people saying this is a 158, it really isn't. I'm not Irish but I have looked into this. Could you please review the night mail train set. As well as more N gauge?
The detailing pieces are steps that go below the door
Yay Irish train thanks
the 2700 have been withdrawn and replaced with newer ones i believe they are called 2900 not really sure
Would this model not be to scale because Ireland uses broad gauge?
Cool
If it was Bachmanns BEST DMU, wouldn't it have 10/10 for everything? What about the Great Western class 150?
The livery is authentic but they don't use the class 2700 anymore.
Why don't you check if it is accurate for the roof to be hollow or not
They are still being used, although they are used less.
Both are power dyes I've looked inside the 158
