@@Alaxamber just to be clear, about 99% of me agrees that anecdotal evidence is not proof of the supernatural, and I would bet that an overwhelmingly high ratio of these are explainable through the lens of science and medicine. However like the doctor I referenced said "it becomes a question when do you start believing people?" If you have 10 salt of the earth people with nothing really to gain from the situation who were witnesses to an exorcism of a family member, and all of them say 'I saw with my own eyes this person briefly levitate off the ground' what do you do with that information? Can you write all of them off simply as "mentally ill" or "attention/fame seeking?" That's the 1% of me that says....well mayyyyyyyybe there are unexplainable things out there and since we can have afflictions of the body and mind, can we have afflictions of the spirit as well? Whatever the true answer is, I'd like to believe that we as human beings would be unable to really comprehend/quantify it.
18:38 "...and the Angel said unto him 'stop hitting yourself. Stop hitting yourself. Stop hitting yourself.' But, lo, he could not, for the Angel was hitting him with his own hands..."
Psychiatry is a form of religion in it's own way in some respects and many of the "medications" are more harmful than good. It is simply not a science. This doesn't mean that "the power of Christ compels you" works either. In this case the idea of tranquilizing and some sort of nutrition maybe with an IV is good. I don't trust anyone saying electro shock is the thing. it just sounds stupid. If she was kept in a more calm state, she probably would have just grown out of it eventually. If medical intervention is nothing more than looking at your Pfizer shelf then you can't blame someone for not going that route. All these drugs they throw at people don't necessarily provide a benefit and in this case may have started the whole thing.
Love the video I’ve always been interested in how authentic subjects like these are personally I’m a none believe in the paranormal or supernatural so I’ve gone to great lengths to prove myself wrong or right in that belief so videos like these are always fun and enjoyable when I’m playing a game or working the night shift you got yourself a sub from me keep up the good work mate 😁
Thank you very much! I’m glad you enjoyed and welcome aboard! Yeah I would consider myself very much a skeptic in most things paranormal/supernatural, but I’m also skeptical of writing off the existence of something beyond our comprehension as well. Its such a weird line to walk.
Another thing you left out about Lilith is that during sex with Adam she would fight to be on top or in "the dominant position " and I guess back then that was a no no. But that's why she gets on top of people when they sleep.
Psychiatry isn't a science at all, its just a bunch of conditions the a bunch of people agree upon then prescribe drugs that do more harm than good in most scenarios. Also, your bias for Christianity comes through in this video which is off putting.
To say it isn't a science at all is a bit of an over aggressive and underdeveloped opinion in my book. Ill concede its an imperfect science, or if you were to say it is more of a social science at this point rather than a hard science I would tend to agree with you. I also concede that overprescribing is a major issue, but that is also prevalent in other fields as well and can be attributed also Big Pharma's lobbying and pushing of meds for everything. However just because at this point Psychiatry relies more on behavioral observation rather than cellular pathology or lacks tests and techniques specific to a certain illness doesn't invalidate it completely as a science. The human brain is by far the most complex organ, some say the most complex thing in our universe's existence, so it would stand to reason illnesses of it would be the most complex thing to study, diagnose, answer, and cure. Also I truly wish you could understand how incorrect your statement of me having a "Christian bias" is, its laughable honestly. I don't believe in Christianity, or any other organized religion for that matter so it genuinely intrigues me how you got that...
@@ReelStory even social sciences are based on empirical data that can be quantified and predict a specific outcome, Psychiatry cannot do this with consistency at all. Most countries can't even agree on psychological diagnostic procedures, protocols or treatment.
Mental illness study is still fairly in its infant stages in comparison and has only really had the surface scratched with the increased exposure in the last few decades. Also what can be considered empirical data changes over time. Look at where general medicine was 100 years ago, we didn’t have MANY of the things we do now to properly analyze and predict outcomes with consistency. More funding, more research, more criticism from a constructive point of view is what is needed.
Disappointing hearing you at the end entertaining primitive superstition. This contributes to the additional suffering of those already suffering frightening conditions.
Bit of an over generalization I would say… my exact words were “So at the end of the day while I believe this was overwhelmingly an issue of mental and environmental factors playing their part, I don’t think it can be definitively ruled out that there wasn’t possibly something going on beyond our comprehension. Whether or not that was demonic forces is ultimately a question that can unfortunately never be answered and may just come down to your own individual beliefs.” I have asked this of those who don’t agree with my assessment and I am still waiting for a good answer… if you have 10 salt of the earth people with nothing really to gain from the situation who were witnesses to an exorcism of a family member and they all say “I saw with my own eyes this person briefly levitate off of the ground” what do you do with that info? Do you write all of them off as just crazy or attention seeking? I don’t believe in the eternal good vs evil/God vs The Devil bullshit that most organized religion is peddling. But I’m open to the idea of things that are unexplainable phenomena to us having a cause that is beyond our comprehension.
@@ReelStory even when we can't fully understand it's vital we know the problem is not supernatural. Set aside Anneliese's specific case for a moment...would you posit that there is zero chance ANY possession case is anything other than medical or psychological? That the idea of an illness being spiritual in nature is an impossibility? If so, I would dare to say you are making the bolder statement and I would love to hear the logic behind your absolute certainty.
@@ReelStory your position, not mine, is the precise archaic god of the gaps mentality that had people tortured for suffering from seizures or sleep paralysis for millennia. This was one of the best video essays on this movie. Great job and i will be subbing and watching your other stuff
I would definitely say that the take on the occult could have been better researched. More so that Satanists claims.
And the plural of Anicdotes isn't evidence. Talk is cheap and more so with the religious people.
Thank you very much! I appreciate it!
