Frank Dux is an example of when you take your middle school fabrications into Adulthood.
I’ve always come to the conclusion that Bloodsport & all the hilarious RUclips content based around his life makes it all worth it.

When we were little, I had a first cousin that was really like my brother, and he was from the COUNTRY and I mean RURAL. Anyway, he told me once that it was a secret but that he could transform into a Ferrari whenever he wanted.
At 6 years old I was too kind to call him out, but now I think if I had a re-do I would counter it with "I'm a Vampire" or some sht.

I had a friend growing up that used to deliver some whoppers. He also claimed to know martial arts, but of course, was not allowed to show anyone. 😂 Didn’t help him much when I had to slam him up in some street ball.

I read Frank’s book once, as I came across it in a library. I was so excited, as I loved Bloodsport, and thought this was a chance to learn about the real Frank Dux.
It was insane. I have never read a book that seemed so self aggrandizing. Apparently, the military began scoping Dux out when he was like 12. He had top secret clearance when he was still a teen, by-passing most training and inserted to the most dangerous undercover operations, right away. He was heavily involved in SE Asia, Russia, Nicaragua… Mars, Saturn, Pluto.
He’s been with countless women; all who fell instantly in love with him and were all supermodel-types. It was all just so unbelievable.
I didn’t need to see controversy about Frank’s claims for my doubt to form. It was more than enough to hear/read his own words.
As a veteran, and someone who practiced martial arts while growing up, I knew that so much of what he claimed in his books was utter nonsense. The fact that he made up so much about everything in his life… he just HAD to know that his lies would be called out, especially being to high profile.
It just baffles me that he claims SO MUCH, and always with him on the winning end of whatever he’s claiming. To see that almost none of his facts have any proof behind them is such a disappointment to my 13 year old self.
Oh well, at least we got Bloodsport out of it all.

The hospitalisation for flighty and disconnected ideas is telling. That phrase is often associated with bipolar disorder, a condition in which the patient is likely to believe extremely grand and implausible things about themselves. Whilst being manic consistently for fifty years is never going to happen, either believing or needing to believe such things about yourself can happen. When you are feeling on top of the world, it is easy to believe, and when you are miserable, believing something like this gives you relief from the pain you feel.
Bipolar disorder is also consistent with coming up with these elaborate explanations for people bluntly pointing out that you are completely full of shit. When you can come up with these weird explanations of why these people would challenge these incredible ideas you have about yourself, it makes you feel like even more of a big shot.
People, especially males, get grand ideas about themselves all of the time. But normal people back away from those ideas when they get smacked in the face with reality. And people who are shown how reality works, more so. Even a twelve year old boy comes down when someone shows him the math that shows his dream fifty-six round death tournament would need 72,057,594,037,927,936 people just fighting to be able to happen. A person who is manic or so miserable in his life that he needs to feel manic will cling onto the fifty-six round death tournament no matter how much math does not math.
I am not a clinician, but I am an intelligent man who has had a very difficult life in which mental illness is but one factor. I have Generalised Anxiety Disorder, and whilst severe anxiety in the midst of a "fun" event can be mistaken for mania, reality is always there, playing tug of war with you. Reality does not even enter into it with mania. And contrary to what ignorant people believe, mania is usually frightening. It is only "alpha"s like Frank who want to ride with the mania.

I can put into perspective now what my mom and other parents like yourself who have had to deal with watching your child fight something that you can't step in and take for them, so I have so much respect for anyone that has ever had to endure that as well. I'm glad your daughter is healthy and thank you again for the kind words!

@@Dad_at_50 Bolo is so legit that he gets sick of the bullshit and just shies away from publicity. I doubt he even returns the calls of journalists. He has made three films in the last twenty years, each of them ten years apart, and the last in 2017. He is seventy-eight now, so I highly doubt he even wants to talk about a film that, if it sat on the shelves for two years before a 1988 release, he worked on approximately forty years ago.
Given how much worse the world has gotten since then, he probably has far bigger fish to fry.

I can't imagine how much time all this research must have taken to gather, compile and make into a script you can follow considering the many twists and turns of Frank Dux life and stories. It's a truly impressive piece of content and I'm interested to see where you go next. I think it's ironic that had Dux just admitted to writing fiction from the start and taken that as a career, he might have gone on to be the celebrated man he always wanted to be.... or maybe not. We'll never know.

I had intended on doing a Spartacus episode next but that will probably get pushed to the end of the year since it’ll end up being a 2 parter and I have a horror themed episode planned for next month so lots of good stuff coming!!
I fully agree and honestly believe that had Frank just come clean and stopped doubling down so hard he might have salvaged a decent writing career and been re-accepted into the fold. His ego is the real villain of his story and seemingly he is unfortunately winless so far against it.

Frank Dux and his crack spec ops team was also sent into the South American jungles to rescue a high value cabinet minister who got caught traveling on the wrong side of a border.
When they got there, they found that Jim Hopper and his team of green berets from Fort Bragg had a bit of a bad time there before them.
Dux's and his team started getting whittled away one by one by a mysterious entity with a tape recorder, shoulder-mounted auto-targeting plasma cannon and heat vision. It also had a penchant for skulduggery.
Sadly, only Dux survived and he did so purely on skill and utilizing a selection of Home Alone style improvised weapons and traps.

I remember having tons of trouble trying to find the soundtrack to this film. It's my favorite soundtrack of all time with Maximum Overdrive. I didn't want the songs with the lyrics which were iconic enough, but I just wanted that keyboard music theme. I couldn't even find it on Napster. It's finally around now but I really needed it over 20 years ago, especially in the 90's while I did my meditation in the backseat of the car

Say what you will about the absurdity of it all, if not for the character Paco, my (then unrealized) fascination with Muay Thai would not have had its seed planted when I was a little kid. It wouldn’t be for another 14 years before I would walk into the first gym to begin training, but Muay Thai has played a major role in my life and career. I’m almost 50 now and there’s no denying, I would likely be living a very different life if not for the movie, Bloodsport.

If anyone remembers the RUclips Channel: The PinkMan, he had a great series on martial arts frauds, ending with Frank Dux.
The best one is Dux's win-streak of 56 fights within a single tournament is mathematically impossible for a tournament. There would need to be 72,000,000,000,000,000+ participants in the tournament.

The 100-man kumite is a real thing. You can watch a few of them right here on RUclips. It's not mathematically impossible to defeat 56 opponents in a row.

    • @ReelStory
      @ReelStory  Год назад +3

@@VultureLivesAgain it is only impossible mathematically if the tournament is single elimination. If it is a round robin or multi elimination style, then yes it would definitely be doable.

@@ReelStory Frank claims that it wasn't a single elimination tournament. He says it was similar to the 100-man kumite test in Kyokushin karate. Although it somehow culminated in an 8-man, single elimination tournament on the final day.
