When they first started the relationship, I was studying abroad in Dublin. Got my hands on one of their stouts aged in Jameson casks. WOW. One of the best beers I’ve ever had.
2 years ago, I decided to finally get into whiskey. This was the first thing that I actually enjoyed. My goto Irish is Rb12 or Green Spot. But this still has a special place in my heart.
If you happen to see it, I recently found Gold Spot (135th anniversary edition)...ridiculously good.
This was also my first bottle just over a year ago! Fell in love!
@@jberks1213 Thats great. I recently happened across a bottle of Platinum Spot. It just hit shelves and it is quite awesome. Let me know if you tried someting like that XD
I wish my goto Irish could be RB12 or Green Spot but here those are pricy. Writers Tears is my goto for value/price. I do like this stout edition.
@@CicadaAppreciationSociety for sure. I don’t have whiskey most of the time. So when I save up, that is what I get.
Been drinking Jameson Black Barrel about 80% of the time these days…such a great daily sipper, and if for some reason I have a bit too much, it doesn’t give me the red eyes and garbage feeling bourbon does the next morn. It’s also great with some ginger ale and lemon peels: )
You guys absolutely did review this whiskey. Episode 93
By far my favorite Jameson, and my "generic irish" to have at home is the Jameson Blackbarrel. I'm really looking foreward to your review of that one. But I understand that one can be expensive at some places, I get it for around €30
The absolute best Jameson. Some would say it is better than any Octomore... It does absolutely slaps though
Really is the best Jameson!
Not surprising really that Jameson (owned by Pernod Ricard) isn't using Guinness (minority owned by Diageo) since they are arch enemies.
Jameson now owns 8º Brewing so it makes sense.
My go-to whiskey, great to finally see it get its well-deserved time in the limelight. Can't go wrong with Jameson Stout Cask.
Jameson Stout is one of my favorite go to's. Then you guys mentioned pairing with beer. One of my summer favs, Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy with a shot of Jameson orange.
Great video again. I will have to give this one a chance. My go-to Jameson is the Black Barrel. First had that one at my local Irish pub. It is their preferred whiskey. I love this pub. Ask for a pint - you get a Guinness. Ask for a whiskey - you get a neat pour of Jameson Black Barrel.
I remember when you previously reviewed the Jameson Caskmates Stout and said that it is "dangerously good." Completely agree.
My favorite Jameson! Bought a bottle duty free on my way home from Dublin and it was enjoyed thoroughly
I like that stout edition and the ipa edition
That Hwy out of Springfield, MO is Hwy 60. There is also Interstate 44 that heads south too but I imagine Daniel is thinking about Hwy 60. I grew up in Rogersville which is on Hwy 60. I don’t live in Missouri anymore BUT believe me it has changed a lot since the early 1960s. I wish you all good health, happiness and all the very best wishes to you and your families!
Love this one! Not a big vanilla fan, but the Stout Edition hits home with me. I find a bit of ice really increases the creaminess, at least at first before it waters down too much.
Did not get American Tail on my bingo card but I love it! I don’t care what they say about you guys, you’re men of class.
Came for the Whiskey, stayed for the discussion about dark 80s family movies. Shout out to "The Dark Crystal" terrifying me as a child and making me want to see it again.
This is a great whiskey, there has been flavour drift though. It used to have a really dense butterscotch layer, which to my palette seems to be missing in newer bottles. Still, it is the whiskey I use to introduce people to whiskey, a great crowd pleaser
Apparently they switched the brewery they were getting barrels from, so that may have something to do with the flavor change
@@matthewsawczyn6592 that makes sense. I haven't bought a bottle in a while, so I hope the next one good...that is if Australian stocks have been rectified though.
Has anyone else confirmed this?
You have reviewed it before! It used to be called Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition. You have an episode on this channel from 5 years ago.
I always keep this one in my stash. Totally a chocolate whisky for me, which I like. My only critisism is, that it’s a bit watery.
A little thin, but JJ&S Stout punches well above its cost. Really a lovely sipper if you aren't looking for a ton of complexity or high ABV.
you should try Westward Stout Cask
@@MaestroPdx For 3x the price it better be good! 🙂
@@kkeelty64 it's worth it
The brewery that provides the stout-used casks is 8 Degrees Brewing, rather than "8D", based in Mitchelstown in Cork. They brew an Imperial Stout called Black Ball and age it in used Jameson casks, then ship the barrels back for the Stout Edition. After the first run with them was so successful, they ended up just outright buying the brewery to ensure supply, which allowed the brewery to expand. Win-win. Teelings do similar with Galway Bay Brewing, where Galway Bay get used Teelings casks, age their annual special Imperial stout called 200 Fathoms, then ship the casks back for the Teelings Stout Cask.
I can confirm that sitting down and having a glass of each together is a *wonderful* experience.
Ok so somewhat new to the tasting game but so far I have had 3 whiskeys that the neck pour was a completely different animal then after it sat a while. The Glenfiddich 12 neck pour was warm and filled my whole body and there was an explosion of flavor in my mouth. The Dalwhinnie 15 and Redbreast 12 were super sweet out of the gate I mean like maple syrup sweet that then changed a lot in the course of an hour. Can't wait for the next surprise in the tasting journey.
Great choice. I got the smooth with a little bite at the end. Tried straight first then a dab of water
Dudes! Springfield MO guy here 😊 cool to know you guys have some brief history here 😊 yah we are known for Brad Pitt, Cashew Chicken and birthplace of Route 66, and yah too many churches 😉 keep up the great work, love your vids 👍🏼 🥃 cheers (I’m actually a big wine guy, and yes Augusta, Missouri was the very first AVA in the USA right before Napa Cali at #2)
Irish Distillers owns 8 degrees brewing. They originally used barrels from Franciscan Well but they bought 8 degrees in 2018 to keep up with demand. I prefer the Stout Cask over regular Jameson as well. I haven’t had a better Stout finish Irish Whiskey than Hinch Imperial Stout Cask. They use barrels from local Whitewater Brewing in Co. Down.
See, I don't do Jameson because it's so sweet and I've been hesitant to try the stout version because of that. I do enjoy a nice hearty stout beer.
Maybe I'll have to pick up a bottle and give it a go.
Finally. The stout edition is my absolute favorite whiskey. Absolutely love it
I'm pretty sure you reviewed this some time ago since that's why I bought a bottle a year or two back. But the reviews are always fun, so..
You are correct, and he said that it was "dangerously good."
I had the Powers John’s Lane with you lot on your Dublin tour, so will always hold a special place for me. But that Stout edition Jameson is legit for the price. Got to agree with every point in this review!
Powers John’s Lane is the best Single Pot Still for the price. 👍
I bought a bottle of Jameson Stout Edition last month because I wanted something Irish to take to a St. Patrick’s Day party. For the price, I think it’s pretty good. Nice and smooth, with interesting coffee and chocolate notes (presumably from the stout barrel).
Disclaimer: I haven’t tried regular Jameson.
Try Jameson Black Barrel, you might enjoy that one as well.
Stout Edition is my favorite Jameson. I made the same buzzer noise when I saw the IPA Edition next to it at the store.
This is my go-to for a budget Irish. Can't go wrong with the standard Jameson either, but I love what the finish adds.
As a rum drinker the Jameson Stout is my go to Irish whiskey
I love the Caskmates Stout edition too. Great all-rounder.
I know you've reviewed this because I bought a bottle specifically from your review :) But love the reminder and re-review. Cheers!
Omg, the American Tail reference was money. Came out when my oldest was born and was our first VHS movie. Now I'll be singingk that song all night.
Caskmates is the only Jameson I buy. It's not my go to Irish but it holds a place in my heart
Fun Fact:Stout edition was actually originally made with casks from Franciscan Well but then they swapped to eight degrees brewing after buying the company
And it was so much better back then too, the current version isn't bad but I swear the batch we had for a while here in Australia before the new stock got here was on another level.
Was just about to say this. Was better then too. Much more creamy stout taste. Still good but not a patch on the old version.
Yep! Franciscan Well couldn’t keep up with demand.
Jameson Stout is one of my favorite go to Whiskeys. I haven't had a Jameson that I haven't liked yet.
Totally agree with Daniel. Stout Edition has supplanted standard Jameson for me.
Having never tried this I immediately ran out to grab some. I can report it is very pleasant and I am pleased with my purchase.
American Tail was made in Ireland - appropriate reference, given the whiskey!
Stout Edition is a collab with Franciscan Wells, the Eight Degees collab is the Jameson Crested x Eight Degees. Both are brewery’s based in Cork, the Franciscan Wells is a fair bit older if I recall
Big fan of the Casmates IPA. Will revisit the Stout
I also stopped buying the regular Jameson. I keep a bottle of stout at all times
My budget easy sipper switched from Monkey Shoulder to this one a couple months ago. It's surprisingly very nice, and a great gateway whiskey for non-whiskey enthusiasts.
This was the first whiskey I could actually taste when I started getting into whiskey
I like when I see something on this channel that I might drink in my lifetime.
Missouri has a very big wine culture. Lots of French heritage here. Especially along the Missouri River. A few great distilleries popping up as well.
i got the small bottle of this, and i think its a decent whiskey, and a lot better then their other stuff in my opinion
After being featured on Tested, here on YT, some years back, this became my preferred Irish Coffee whisky. I’ll even spring for some overpriced double cream imported from the UK to polish it off. This stuff and a good med/dark roast, especially from Central or South America (Fruity and especially citrusy) is a very special experience.
It's so good. Never disappointed. My favorite Jameson!
i love this stuff. it's my favorite 'cheap' whiskey
Yep, good laugh It could be my Cousin Michael , I added a touch of Glenmorangie Signet to the bottle just because I'm fluid with it as a consumer, and my Cousin still adores it. Good times😊 I wonder if he thinks it's batch variation, or as I do retains the memories but lacks the details.
Finally!!!!!! Been recommending this to everyone
I've always been a sucker for the Jameson Cold Brew. I'd love to see their expert opinion of it too.
The Stout Cask is so good. I get slight chocolate notes that make it so so good.
Miss this duo 😢
the best whiskey beer combo I've had was Lagavulin Nick Oferman Edition finished in Guinness barrels
In Canada they charge almost $45 for this which pretty much makes it not a priority buy. I do however enjoy it more than the regular Jameson and I always have a bottle of it in my collection.
Uh ooohhhh.....someone slept in! Morning to ya MBs!
One of the only Irish whiskies I have restocked bottles of just delicious stuff.
The American Tale singing!! 😆👌
My favorite drinker when I’m not going into my rare or expensive whiskeys
How does this compare to the Black Barrel which is MY favourite Jameson?
Not as bitter or dark as I thought it would be. Still a bright, effervescent creaminess. Surprised me
I use the Jameson stout in my irish coffee 👍👍
I love this whiskey. Would like a slightly higher abv to be fair but it’s a banger for the price
I hope you see this. I have been trying whiskeys for about 6 months. I have tried 10 bourbons and 5 scotch but nothing over 101 proof. I like bourbon but the burn can be rough, I like fruity scotch but dislike the malted barley flavor, but I just tried Kilbrin Blended Irish Whiskey and I love its light flavor and incredible smoothness with no burn,, but I wish it had more fruitiness. Based on this info do you have a recommendation for me.
Redbreast in a glass of Guinness is lovely if anyone was wondering
Why drown out great whiskey in a glass of stout?
@@Erin-bd6jg Because I was curious haha, it's not something I'm in the habit of doing but it was nice
@@GP.B-F ...readbreast is expensive where I'm from. There's no way I'd piss it away pouring it in a beer. That's crazy to me.
@@Erin-bd6jg Well it's expensive where I live as well, but I didn't see it as pissing it away since I basically just traded one glass of Redbreast for a delicious marriage between it and Guinness. But it's not something I would do on a regular basis since, as stated, Redbreast is expensive and excellent on it's own.
I've been enjoying this one for years. It gets a chocolate, creamy vibe from the stout barrels.
Is Redbreast your favorite high end Irish whiskey?
guys can you do a video where you compare this to the black barrel?
Jamie Stout is really nice, so is the Black Barrell. I just had Basil Hayden. Ohh that's some good stuff, give it a try and review. :)
I'm not a big Irish Whiskey guy, but this is the one I keep at my house.
Cool conversation 🥃
Will you guys be able to get your hands on the new Jameson Single Pot Still 5 Cask Finish?!😋😋
Funny story: I started watching this video as the car was getting inspected. Then went to the store to get a lottery ticket and what is right in front of me. Jameson Stout nip. Stay tuned
I will often pour a Guinness and splash a half a shot of whiskey into it. Not only is it a nice kicker, but it's damn tasty! Try it.
Have u reviewed Jameson coopers croze?
Well, I know what I will be trying to pick up for my brother and nephews who helped me move recently.
Is this a diff version of the stout edition than the one in episode 93?
i get my Jameson on Friday!!
Fun fact, you guys did do a review of the stout edition 5 years ago but it was the caskmates edition.
I might pick this up. Also, Andrew Heaton should make a return!
Had this a month back.
So good with cigars like a chocolate thin whisky. I wish it was like 100 proof but it’s like a fun guilty pleasure
As an Irish man Jameson Stout is like Peaches and Cream. The peaches were good on their own, but sure why not add a bit of cream as well?
Hey first to comment! And I have that whiskey in my personal vault. It's a very nice. They are right. It's still Jameson, just slightly improved.
Awesome video
Need a link to the bonifcation
Damn straight. The Jameson Stout Edition is better than the Black Barrel. The stout barrel takes the metallic tinge out of the palate. My favorite Jameson to date.
jameson caskmate stout with a guiness extra stout chaser is my go now a days unless i can afford a nice single malt scotch
Jameson should release an age-statement bottle with a stout finish. That would be unbelievable.
The stout edition goes great in an Irish coffee.
Guinness is owned by Diageo, so not surprising that they are not partnering with Middleton. The Lagavulin Offerman Lagavulin though is 😘
At first I thought you guys did this Jameson Stout but then I realized it was the Caskmates version 🥃
I know the IPA gets less love, and understandably if neat. But it's my favorite for Irish and ginger ale.
Not even 20 seconds into the video and there's Daniel bending over. The Whiskey Vault ladies and gentlemen 😆
This one is all over stores near me and I'd not gotten it so far because you guys hadn't done a review on it so far (I think you've talked of the cask edition) so I figured it's probably not worth getting 😂
