Hey man, thanks for taking the time to share this. I watched your video twice then made 2 of the exact same thing myself. Saved me tons of money on gates I needed and was super simple. You rock, subscribing to your channel.
Nice and simple. Just the way I like it. I'll be using Tulip Poplar off our sawmill. I'm told that all the old timers here in NE TN used it for gates. 💪😎👌
The tractor shouldn’t be a problem getting to & from the the barn yard. Thanks for showing. It gives me some idea on how to build my gate in my barn yard!
Thank you for posting this vid! Copied your design and it's the best~ and best looking~ gate I've constructed thus far. Will utilize this same design for all gates from here on...they look sharp and are strong.
Thanks for the video showing the different steps. I used your design also with decking wood (pine) and black wire mesh to build 2 gates to keep dogs in - works a treat and looks good too.
Gates on our old place were built the same as yours, except for no wire. One other difference was that the hinge side pole was about 5' higher than the top of the gate such that a support (guy) wire could be added to insure that the far end of the gate did not sag. Our gates were at least 12' wide.
Looking good! It might just be the way the camera is sitting but the left (unbraced) post looks plumb is the gate level? If it's not you can tighten the top lag screw until its level and put the top hinge back on, if a half turn is what you need another person's idea to pin the top screw pointing down would work and the gate can't be lifted off the hinges.
the gate is unlevel, because the ground is going downhill. so the gate follows the ground. if I level the gate it would be 8" to 12" higher than the ground on far end.
I have to give it to you, you are dedicated to accomplishing your goals! 👏🍎💯 Great job! Your dog is your faithful companion. Even the cat was there on the end! LOL
Good looking gate! But why not buy a Tractor Supply 6 bar gate and attach a hog panel to it? It's heavy duty, light weight and can't rot? I really like your videos though! Thanks for sharing them !
Perfect for what I need. Gonna build this exact gate but stand it up lengtht wise for my chicken yard that has 7 feet high posts and wire mesh fencing surrounding it.
Loved the video! I’m wanting to use these as sheep panels in my barn to keep the sheep out of the hay area. Will they be fine just sitting on the ground if I connect a few together?
Will the pressure treated wood degrade the sheep panel over time? Oh, and previous posters were correct, your top hingepin needs to be pointing dow to prevent someone or something from lifting it up and taking it off the hinges.
Yeah it is so I can lift it off if I want. But the hinges are in a slight bind and it is so heavy I dont think I could lift it off without losing a hinge. It weights 4 times what a 12 foot metal gate weighs. It definitely needs hung on a fence brace or it will pull the post over.
Has your 8 ft farm gate that you made out of treated 1x6’s warped or cracked any where you screwed it together? I’m wanting to build two 8 footers for my driveway. I value your feedback. Thanks
The pin needs to clamp around a horizontal bar on the gate to keep it was twisting. So with a wire filled gate it has to be that high, since there is only one horizontal bar on the gate.
Country View Acres the family cow is a beautiful thing to have. You should look into the mini jersey Dairy cow. It has the perfect size and genetics for a beginner family cow.
My wife is planning on getting dairy goats, so I am thinking about raising other livestock for meat. I will probably get a couple feeder pigs for myself. But am still looking for a type of livestock to raise on pasture and sell.
Country View Acres all great ideas. Me personally from past experiences would prefer a dairy cow before dairy goats. In many areas it’s less work. Good luck to you and your wife! I find your channel very interesting and inspiring!
Oh my goodness! your dog in the background. I literally thought it was a bear cub or something until he/she turned her face and I could see more clearly lol
Evan, You really need to change the corrugated Metal on the back of the Barn so the Corrugations run Vertical, It would look a lot better & probably wouldn't have rusted so much because it didn't have drainage. Then you could Paint it & it would look Great.
Whos we? Don't tell me you still have imaginary friends at your age😜 ok what's her name and was she wearing bib overalls or a bikini when she was helping you? Haha thanks for the video I how you constructed that gate, it should be sturdy as heck👍🏻
We are going to give this a try for our sheep gates since we have a few cattle panels that have bent ends etc. Thank you for the ideas!

What a nice job. Check one more off of the to do list. May you have many happy years opening and closing your gate.
Genius build. Just what I was looking for my garden gate. Thank you
The gates are very heavy. You will need a very strong post to mount it on.

Good looking gate, hope the tractor fits through. Can’t wait to see how you fix up the interior of the barn
This is good stuff. I used this as the basis for the gate going in to my farm garden. It turned out very well! Thanks for posting this.
Good solid job. At the risk of being nit-picky, because of movement and its weight, those gate hinges should have been attached with through bolts.

It’s a beautiful gate man! Thanks for sharing, I needed an idea and yours is perfect.
Gate building starts at 3:43
U should put the topp hinges upsidedown, so Ur animals can´t lift it up and lose it. Great job. *thumbs up*
Great Job Evan!!!
Very nice gate. Very inpirational.
my favorite gate video EVER
Thanks for sharing. I'm going to use this design!
Todo un profesional! 👍👍👍👍 Y un trabajo bien hecho!
Gate looks Great !

Nice gate! I think something like that will work perfectly on my ranch. Thanks for posting! 👍🏼
FYI. They are heavy gates, they need a good strong brace to mount on. 3 times heavier than a metal gate.
@@CountryViewAcres Thanks so much for the tip!

Looks almost to nice for a barn yard. Thanks for sharing.
Nothing wrong with a bit of over kill,..what a sweet looking gate,..I bet it is heavy,..
Looks super nice, and sturdy👍🏻
Good video! I like how you work!
Great work! Your place is coming together nicely.
Well done! Thanks for idea. 💯
I've always dreamed of living on a farm. Your place is beautiful!
In some settings it keep the gate from being borrowed. My gate hinges are opposed because it is by the road.
Can you post a link or two for the gate hinges used here? Thank you!
Great job i will give this a try because you made seems so simple.... thanks

Nice big gate. It really looks like it will last awhile too.
Going to do this instead of metal pipe gate. I've got an oddball 15' opening between massive posts. Going to do it with 2 panels.
Thanks Brother!
Definitely going to need a gate wheel on that to keep it from sagging. I would imagine it’s hitting the ground by now.
top hinge besides being upside down can be screwed in more to remove slack
Hi..... Thank you for sharing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🎥👍👍👍
Great video/instruction.
Nice; I will use that design on my fence. Thank you.

Another awesome project done look pretty simple to do thanks for the idea to can't wait to see your barnyard fill with animals running around
Yea, my wife can't wait either. She has starting contacting people inquiring on some goats.
That awesome y'all getting goats I hope she enjoys them
Awesome gate. Gotta do this.
Looks good
Love those gates!!!
Your top hinge is on upside down . That will keep it from getting nocked off
laugh at that too and have th gate that low too will give him more problems too
Fantastic for the money!
Awesome gate kudo's! Love the dog and cat 💙💙 all around you !!
Don't move the post that is rubbing against the gate, just screw in the top hinge screw another turn or two.
Excellent idea i need ten feet gates but they so simple to make!
FYI, these wooden gates will be heavy. So you will need a strong post to hang them on.
@@CountryViewAcres yea i have telephone posts four foot deep! And will have a wheel on gate to support the end!
Enjoy your videos, Very Helpful. What width are the deck boards that you used. Thanks
How about an update. How has it weathered over the last year.. Awesome job
The gate us still looking good. It shows up in the video I posted today.
@@CountryViewAcres I'll have to check it out
Will thay swing both ways? What type of hinges are these?
Perfect for what I need. Gonna build this exact gate but stand it up lengtht wise for my chicken yard that has 7 feet high posts and wire mesh fencing surrounding it.
I'm going to use this design, but ours will be 5'x5' double gates. 😊
What’s the hinge hardware you used? I cannot find that anywhere.
Great job on the gate ;)
Looks great but would definitely put your top hinge down so the animals can’t push up on it and the gate come off. Great channel.
This wooden gate, it probably weighs 4 times a 12 foot metal gate. It is very hard for me to lift it off the hinges.
Loved the video! I’m wanting to use these as sheep panels in my barn to keep the sheep out of the hay area. Will they be fine just sitting on the ground if I connect a few together?
I HAVE THE SAME SQUARE, IT WAS MY DADS, NICE GATE TOO BY THE WAY
The square was my grandfather's. I have a lot of his tools.
Wow such good ideas--

Good.job.on that.gate
👍
You should build a rocket mass heater for your shop
Turned out great
Thank you....subscribed
Perfect!
Beautiful gate. Can you update us on how it has held up so far? Have the decking boards tried to twist or rack?
The gate is still in good shape. It is just heavy, so you need a good strong post to hang it on. It can cause smaller posts to lean.
What is the name of your squire?
Nice gate unless you get an elephant you should be good to go it’s all looking good 👍👍👍👍👍
Is it one way or two way gate?
Just curious what music is in this video?
AWESOME job.👍👍
Has your 8 ft farm gate that you made out of treated 1x6’s warped or cracked any where you screwed it together? I’m wanting to build two 8 footers for my driveway. I value your feedback. Thanks
No, the wooden farm gates are still fine. No warping. They are very heavy gates so you need a good post or brace to hang them off of.
I would center the latch on the gate instead of the top
The pin needs to clamp around a horizontal bar on the gate to keep it was twisting. So with a wire filled gate it has to be that high, since there is only one horizontal bar on the gate.
@@CountryViewAcres I meant on the wood gate
Sorry, I thought this comment was one my recent videos. My bad.
Where did you find the gate mounting hardware?
"Rural King" - farm store
Are you planning on beef cattle or dairy?? Any thoughts on pigs?? They are fun to raise
We are open to ideas. We still haven't decided. But I will admit, cows are probably the most intimidating, because of there size.

I guess you don’t get snow since you have little ground clearance…
Oh my goodness! your dog in the background. I literally thought it was a bear cub or something until he/she turned her face and I could see more clearly lol
Very nice gate
So why do you build this over buying the metal wire filled gates available?
Might need a wheel on the bottom soon.
Trying to determine country of origin, aw yes moment, American. Type of screws he was using. Canadian = Robinson, and USA, Phillips

Your doing well Even another tick off your list of to dos
In California
Do it yourself, go to woodprix and learn how to make it.
Too heavy and expensive imo. Well made though.
Glue?
I have done very similar with Woodglut designs.
Whos we? Don't tell me you still have imaginary friends at your age😜 ok what's her name and was she wearing bib overalls or a bikini when she was helping you? Haha thanks for the video I how you constructed that gate, it should be sturdy as heck👍🏻
I started with Stodoys plans.
You'll find all the inspiration you need on woodglut instructions.
In my first work I always used woodglut plans.
What do you call that type of gate hinge? I can't find any of that type, all the ones with the screw are made for tube style gate.
never mind just found it
