    Evan, I know it is late but for future fencing there is a long bar that has a blade on one end and a round cap on the other end. It is about seven feet long. It is heavy and would do an excellent job of packing dirt around the wooden post. Better than using a wooden stick. You may already have this bar. Hope this helps.

    Man on all those little corners and short runs, I personally would've stapled a hog/cattle panel and used bolt cutters to fit. Bless you for showing the 2-way gate latch - I will definitely be using those!

    teamwork is key. It is smart to use cattle panels with goats - they do not wreck when they stand on them like field fencing will.

    Short fence runs are pains! Dad and I did Mom’s half-acre garden and he figured we could have done a couple quarter mile runs in the same time. One thing that might help in those is a short clamp/stretcher or a Goldenrod stretcher. You have to play with them to see how to best use each of those. Another idea is to shorten the wrap-around ends to just enough to wrap 3x around itself. Fewer verticals to remove - maybe even none if the spacing works. Good rule of thumb on choosing panels for really short runs too.
    I admire your willingness to admit mistakes!

    I've had one hour projects stretch out into weeks -- especially when working on old tractors! I know exactly what you are talking about, and some days it is so much worse than others -- but you gotta just keep plugging away at it! I have fencing an gate work to do as well this summer, and hope it goes smooth. Keep up the good work, the place is looking nice!

    Some days are just like that! I just go do something else for a little while and then come back to the problem, I think out the steps to the problem while accomplishing just something!!! Barbwire is great to use, but it does grab everything!! LOL I have some to repair and another section to stretch again, every few years. I am mowing one garden to get ready to till it, meanwhile the rider mower has a flat, like off the wheel flat, aired up two tires and charging so I can load it and take it to have the carb cleaned. I am enjoying these nice days, but sure going to be sore soon!!! LOL

    You should also put about 2” of gravel in the bottom of each post hole before you drop the post in. Helps with drainage.

    A short piece of three sixteenths inch chain around the post and gate end with a hook with a spring clip works great. It can be an end on the chain or even a caribener.

    Nice work ! Whatever color you decide to go with for the barn, it might be a lot easier on you to find a semi-transparent stain that can be sprayed with a pump sprayer every 5yrs. Nothing is worse than scraping & painting every 5-7yrs.

  • @margodawson4671
    @margodawson4671 4 года назад

    I have made many cow pens. That small corner would have been better and stronger if you would have used 2" X 6" to fill in that corner and if you would put on with solid faster it would not mater which side it is on. They make welded 16 ft. cattle panels that would be a lot better than wire. For big pens I found 16 ft cattle panels with a 2" X 6" on top. That will make it high enough and make it stay straugt. Darrell

    your end post should never turn if brased right and steel wire wraped tight from top of end post to bottom of 2nd last over yourcross post, it cant turn. ad you need the same at every hinged gate post or it will slowly lean over from the weight of the gate, high tensil haevy gage wireis the main holding power

    Your goats might eat the pine trees like Norway spruce I think. I know mine eat the tree till it died but I didn’t like the spot they were I; anyways so I didn’t care but you may want to put fence around them if you want to keep them they may not even be interested in the tree who knows. Anyways just wanted to let you know

    Well, at least it got done ahead of time; sorry to hear you had problems with it. I think there may be a problem with your camera, it looks like you have some kind of hazy fog hanging around for most of the last few videos. I am not sure if the lens has some oil on it or if the camera is going kaput on you; just an fyi, but I reckon you have seen it. How many more weeks left to your shutdown?

    First let me say thank you for all your videos and teachings. They have helped this newbie homesteader quite a bit. I do have a question. Are the wire tensioners on the hinge side of the gate wrapped backwards? i would think the wire tensioners would be on top of the pole that holds the gate and bottom of the other pole ? ( video marker 4min 56 sec) on the left side of screen. and please correct me if i'm wrong because i will be running fence in the next few months and i dont want to do it wrong. Any help would be appreciated. my thought process behind it is the weight of the gate and gravity will tend to pull it down on non-hinged side of the gate. Which will pull the top of the hinged side out. so would you want the wire tensioner on top there and bottom of the support post? Thanks so much again for all you video. Beautiful home btw. Thomas

    • @CountryViewAcres
      @CountryViewAcres  5 лет назад +1

      The wire tensioner is setup to counter act the pulling of the fence wire. Not setup for the to counter act the weight of the gate.

    Really enjoy watching your videos and am looking forward to seeing the improvements to the barn. However, at the risk of being called out as a “Safety Sally”, I feel there’s a couple of things you teally need to be aware of before getting seriously injured. First, research how to properly cut down a tree so it falls the direction you want it to.....safely.....and you dont end up having to manually push it. Second.......NEVER......never have on loose, bulky clothing when working with an auger, especially a PTO driven auger. Seeing both you and your wife kicking your legs towards a running auger while wearing baggy overalls was downright scary. Research a few farming incidents involving augers.....and be sure to click on “images”.....and you will never do that again. And it happens so fast, especially at times when youre frustrated, tired, etc....and just want to hurry up and get it done. I dont mean to sound like I’m criticizing, but I would feel horrible if I didnt make you aware and something happened to either of you.
