Thanks Steve! I have went from clueless to maybe having a clue. I have 2 hours on your videos and loves them. It's great to watch a down to earth person teaching others. May GOD bless you. Thanks
Mike Stafford
Right on Mike...
You’re frickin awesome! I’m a widow that’s had to learn a whole lotta loud, dirty, hard and scary sh%t since my big ole He-Man Hungarian Barbarian took a left instead of a right and sadly ended up going to that Big Bad Shop in Heaven. I want you to know that I think you’re an absolute Angel for explaining everyday things that I can actually comprehend and learn the simple and safe way to do them and I can build on that knowledge to further my skills to live life without my head in an oven.. thanks Steve
WOW! You are so welcome. Thank You...
I watch the commercials so he can get paid.
Thanks for the advice.
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
Depends on the beer, a 5 minute job can still be a 3 beer job steve ;)
All depends on how jawing we do.
You have three beers
Depending on body's alcohol tolerance. Some people perform better with a certain amount lol
You guys should be ashamed! It's completely irresponsible to dismantle and work on chainsaws while drinking alcoholic beverages! I'd limit the drinking to when one is actually using the chainsaw for it's intended purpose, ideally while climbing ladders or trees.... 🚫Just joking🚫
You just saved me from what I thought would be an oiler replacement. THANK YOU!
You're Welcome...
Right when you said “one beer job” you got my like and subscribe. Fine work sir!
Thank You...
Very clear and concise instructions presented in a way that most people can understand. I have watched several of his videos and have saved money and gained knowledge
Thank You...
This completely solved my problem! After taking the bar and chain off I ran the saw and verified that oil was being pumped out. I then thoroughly cleaned the hole on the bar and the groove going around the whole bar. It oils like a charm now. Thanks so much!
Great job!
Thanks Steve, I think that many chainsaws have hit the landfill because of this one small , easily fixable problem. Yes, you are for sure saving us money ! !
You're welcome..
Hey Steve, thanks a bunch, exactly what was wrong with my saw! One Beer Fix!
You're Welcome...
Awesome, after seeing all the manufacturers troubleshooting tips and checking all the parts this was all I needed to see. Six or so pulls and it came back to life.
Another good video Steve, if possible clean your saw after each cutting session. Compressed air is nice as it makes the job easier. Clean the bar slot as Steve mentioned, just don’t slide something in the slot that will widen that gap. Also check the oiling port hole on the saw for cleanliness while the bar is off. Always use bar & chain oil, other oil can cause issues. Thanks Steve, from the USA-eh!
For years I've been manually oiling the chain on my saw. Cleaned the passageway on the saw body itself untold times, never thought to look for a pathway in the bar itself! Going to have to check it out next time I have the saw out! Thank you!
Thank you. I've been an auto mechanic all of my life, but I'm starting at a Mower/chainsaw repair shop job on Monday.
I've been watching your videos mostly, as they are real practical information for my transition into yard machines.
Thank you.
Best of luck!
@@StevesSmallEngineSaloon Thank you. But I don't use luck. Just gained knowledge.
Great tip never knew about the hole in the chain bar. Thanks again on your money saving tips. May God bless you and your family
Thank You...
Thanks Steve, that exactly what happened to one of my saws. No one was kind enough to explain that simple fix. Merry Christmas!
You're welcome...
I just saw your video, went to my shed, did what you said needed to be done and directly brought my chainsaw to life. Many thanks.
Right on buddy...
Thanks Steve!! Am working on a Ryobi 10 inch battery chainsaw that is not oiling. This video was GREAT in confirming that the oil was indeed getting from the oil reservoir to the chain through the weep hole. Now know for sure that it is a problem with the bar!! Starting cleaning the channel of the bar and was packed full of dry grass. Slow and steady and making progress!!
Also working on my other Ryobi battery chainsaw (I have 2) that got tangled up in some hay twine that someone did not throw away.. lots of tiny little fibers caught up in the bar channel.
I have dedicated work clothes set aside for chainsaw work-- the bar oil sure is goopy stuff.
Steve: As always great video. I used penetrating oil with the straw/nozzle to clean out the oil holes on the guide bar.
The hole on the bar was plugged with dirt on mine- that explains the lack of chain oil. Thanks!
No problem 👍
What a genuinely nice guy. Accidentally stumbled across this video and it made my day.
Right on Johnny! Thank You...
Awesome, dude. Thank you for including the close ups. I was able to click through, spot them, and do a "cliffs notes" version in about 15 seconds. Dope. Problem defeated.
You're the man Steve! I've fixed my saw several times all thanks to you're videos! 🤙
Right on Paul....
so happy i found this channel, i got my saw running yesterday again, thanks,,,,right now im dealing with a lot of bar oil under the cover,,,seems like its going everywhere under the stihl cover
This gentleman is brilliant with chainsaws and he gets right to the point.
Thank You...
Bless you Steve for sharing your wisdom with me!!! It solved my problem. Just another great educational video!!!
Glad to help
Thank you for a great video that got right to the point and didn’t drone on and on before getting to the problem and actually showing how to fix it!
You have saved me tons of money and relieved me of lots of worries. I watch and thumbs up all your vids even if i already know what im doing just to make sure im doing it the right way and to learn anything new which i absolutely have. Your the best and i appreciate you very much.

Cheers Steve, had this happen to me last time i was out bush and it made cutting firewood a real hassle!
Cheers brother..
I love it! Straight to the point! Great lighting. Fantastic sound!
Thank You...
Thanks Steve - exactly what i was looking for - loving the simple no nonsense vids !
You're Welcome...
Hey Steve,
Thanks for making these videos. You just saved me a bunch of money. Love your video's and Buckin's too. Please keep them coming. Thanks again for sharing all your knowledge with everyone.
You're Welcome...
You have a video for just about every question I have. The information is great and you are clear and simple. Thanks for doing what you do.
You're Welcome...
My was not working so I cleaned bar as suggested and no change but it was a bit dirty so probably good to do as routine maintenance. What I found on my saw was the filter was covered with a white substance, maybe had some sawdust in oil not sure, I’m really super careful when filling with oil not to get something in the tank. I dumped it out cleaned the filter washed tank out with gas and now it oils like a champ.thanks for video as it led me in the right direction and now I know how it works, not very complicated.
Love your work. I relearn things you talk about all the time. You save me a lot of having to pay someone to fix something I mostly have done before when I worked with saws way more than today. Your info is valuable and very spot on to today's fuel issues. Thanks again.
You're Welcome...
Always wondered what the problem was and now I know! Thanks so much Steve.
You're Welcome...
This might sound sorta obvious, but make sure you use a lighter bar oil if you're working in winter weather. Summer oil turns to molasses in the cold and you could easily assume there's something wrong with your saw. Bring it in the house, warm it up for half a day until the oil flows, then dump it out and replace it with the proper winter oil.
Paul, what an awesome idea for a new video. Thank You...
Thank.Helped so much.I was burning up chains and never knew about that hole in bar. Also did not know how th oil came out.So helpful thanks buddy!!!!You just saved me a lot of headaches.
You're welcome!
Wow Steve you're closing in on 300,000 subscribers congrats!👍🏻My farm boss started using only 1/2 tank of oil to one gas your tip saved me $$$ and problems!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 you're the best brother!✌🏻️
That is awesome!
Saved me money for sure. Mine was this exact problem. Cleaned em out and back in action, thank you so much.
You're Welcome...
Thanks Steve, solid! Cheers!!
You're Welcome...
Thanks! I've simply never tried. It was SO easy after I saw this.
You're Welcome...
Great video and instruction. The Sthil MS 180 chainsaw has two holes at the clutch end of the blade. Turning the machine on with no blade was a good start to see that it was pumping out oil. I cleaned out the channel on the blade with a scraper, the little screw driver that Sthil provides and a paper clip. There is a hole between the blade channel and the blade hole that was full of sawdust.
Right on...
Great vid, thanks. I’ve been trying for ages to figure out why my Qualcast electric chainsaw isn’t self oiling.
I completely misunderstood the oiling system until I saw this 👍
Glad it helped
Good job Steve lot of people do need this type of information keep up the good work man
Thank You...
Thank you! That did the trick for my little MS-171! One less thing to worry about. Cheers🍺
You're Welcome...
Just stumbled across your channel. Super helpful videos. Great to see another Canadian too.
Thank You...
Steve from one wood carving wood house heating Canuck to another thanks 👍. Saved me a shop charge and downtime . It’s June here in bc and time to get cutting and seasoning for winter ❄️. Weekends aren’t for rest there for providing heat for the family when the power goes out this winter 💪
You're Welcome...
Thanks for the info man! I watched 3 or 4 of your videos today & my chainsaws running like a dream now👌🏻
Cheers🍻👊🏻
That is awesome!
I know this vids pretty old but I've got a stihl battery chain saw and oil was not lubricating chain I had it booked in to stihl to look at but it was a 4 week wait 😂 thank God I found your channel thanks mate you saved me some bucks
You're Welcome...
Good point Steve,a lot of new saw owners over look this, and greasing the sprocket if posible.Keep up the good work.
Thank You...
I didn't know about this. But I adjusted by self-drive on my lawnmower. That's for both.
So much great information on your channel. Thanks, Steve!
My pleasure!
I swear man. Your tips r the absolute best!!!
Thank You...
Fixed right up!!! Thank you brother.

Cheers mate . A one beer repair love it
Fixed! Brilliant, saved me a trip to the shop.
Glad it helped
Excellent!! Worked like a champ!! Bottoms up 😊
Thank you! Your video helped me fix a chainsaw that wasn’t oiling the bar. Excellent instructional video. The bar oiling hole was clogged.
You're Welcome...
Man, I;m glad this was a one beer job lol !!
I am having this exact same problem with my Echo CS-6701. I have noticed the oil wasn't coming through and wasn't aware of the oil hole on the bar. I was thinking it may be something to do with the auto oiler system.
I do remember some time back that it actually used more oil than I thought was normal.
Is there such a thing ??
Thank you so much for this video Sir !
Great job on the video and the demonstration and instruction. Very helpful, thanks.
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
Pretty sure I just "thumbs upped" a video as the result of the subject's request to do so for the first time. I've noticed my husky not doing a great job lately, between this video, the one about cutting crooked, & the impending rain tomorrow I think I know one job I'll be tackling in the shop. Thank you Steve!
Right on Kevo....
Oh, I made a grave mistake, I listen to a dummy. He said I could use used motor oil for bar oil. Will I found that after doing so it got clogged and hot. So I put gas in bar oil spout. Put cap on and shook the hell outta it. To loosen and debris. Then dumped it out really good. Did it twice to get it cleaned out. I hope I got it all. I will check tomorrow to see if oiler is coming out freely or maybe it's plugged. Hope not. After listening to someone I thought knew what he was talking about, I decided your tube videos are much more helpful. Thank you!
Thanks! I learned how the self-oiling in my Ryobi chainsaw works. After I cleared all the muck, it works fine
Glad it helped!
This guy looks like David Ross, former MLB Catcher. Very helpful and down to earth explanations. Keep poppin those tops and spreading the word on chainsaw repairs, there are still real men in America!
Right on...
Got my first chainsaw, soo good watching you
Rock on!
When you said you knew this video helped someone, I think you were talking about me! Thank you brother. Great video, easy to follow.
You're Welcome...
THANK YOU!!! YOU SAVED ME A TRIP TO THE REPAIR GUY!
Right On...
Steve great tip. I bought a used Makita EA6100P chainsaw and noticed it sprayed ALOT of oil. After removing the chain, I used that first tool you showed and ran it in the groove in the guide bar and found alot of gunk! I re-adjusted the oiler from max to a medium setting, works correctly now but it took a week for all that oil to stop leaking!
Right on ....
Thanks for the video! Sometimes it's the simplest things that can cause the biggest problems. Cleaning that little hole in the bar was the tip I needed.
Thanks again! Cooter
Glad it helped!
Hey man, THANKS!!! My MS 251 was dry as a bone on the bar, so I took it apart, as per this vid, and the bar indeed was the culprit. Working fine now....good job!!
Thank You...
Great video, no beer was needed and solved my problem 😊
Excellent!
You are truly a lifesaver Steve I was having this problem trying to cut a tree this weekend
Right on
Great channel Steve with lots of info. Nice bottle collection as well! 😆 Cheers from a fellow Canadian!
Thank You...
Just unplugged an oil hole in a chainsaw bar today. That´s why i came back to this video.
Your videos really are helping!
Will run the saw tomorrow to see if it sprays oil at a piece of cardboard like you showed.
(For your information:
I tried to buy stuff from your amazon store, like the lawn mower blade balancer, but it won´t ship to me. Seems to be because i live in europe and you link to a north american amazon store. I couldn´t get it to work for me. European amazon ships to me just fine, but not from your store. So maybe you could link to different stores for the different continents or something. When it comes to computer/internet stuff i´m not the brightest knife in the shed though, so maybe it´s just me...)
That's awesome thanks for the video. Helped me with my oiling problem. Thank you
You're Welcome...
Steve you are Right. I clean my Bar out every time I cut wood. I use a MS260 PRO, AND MS311 BOTH STIHL Saws. My thoughts exactly on your thinking Sir. I have fixed many Saws where all it is that you have to keep that Bar Area open to get that oil in the bar and chain. Love your Video's keep them coming. Ron
Thank You...
Awesome video! Always learning something new.
Glad to help!

Really nice job of explaining and showing how to test for chain oil not flowing and how to fix if only due to a plugged bar hole.

Thanks man .I was thinking of stripping the whole darn thing down I will do that test and see how it goes. Thanks again.
You're Welcome...
Excellent video. Of course you've helped many of us out here!
Thank You...
You just saved me money. My old McCulloch Super Pro 81 wasn't oiling the bar, even when I used the manual oiler button, and I was afraid that I was going to have to replace the oil pump. Turns out the hole was clogged and once I cleaned it, it worked just like always. Thanks!
Glad I could help
YES! Thanks to you I was able to fix the problem 3 minutes start to finish!
