I believe one of the first things Gorton did when he took over in 2022 was to hire a professional development staff. They salvaged Caufield and then went to work on Slafkovsky, Guhle and Xhekaj. They worked on interim rebuild players like Harris, Strubble, Kovacevic and turned them into assets. It's working.

      You misunderstood the reference.
When he said "Jazz", he wasn't talking about the Utah Jazz of the NBA, he was referring to the character of Jazz played by DJ Jazzy Jeff on the TV show "The fresh Prince Of Bel Air." On almost every episode, Jazz gets thrown out of the house by Uncle Phil. When this happens, you see Jazz flying through the air out the door. Junkie was using this as a reference to how Bergevin was literally thrown out the door of the Habs organization.

I have an interesting solution to this ... instead of retiring a # why don't they just pass it on like they say ...passing the torch ...say of example Price giving the 31 to Fowler with his # on his back to enter the NHL ...give the next gen your # if they want

Kostitsyn wasn't the best choice, but he never was a bad player.......and for having friends who worked at.....I think it was "L'Opera" (The nightclub, not an actual opera house) during the 2000s I think that this player, possibly more than any other, could have benefited from better support and supervision from the team. People loved this young man and were more than happy to offer him just about anything... which isn’t necessarily ideal when a young guy is that popular and doesn’t really have a strong command of either of the two most common languages in the Montreal environment.....My point isn't to repeat stories that many of us have heard or witnessed......but his story is a good example of how certain players might have benefited from receiving more support and guidance.....I know that these guys are adults, and that you get to make your own decisions in life, but I get the feelings that most players are better looked after nowadays.

But I do remember a trade made with Minnesota, mostly because of a part of the interview about the Wild Player:
''The GM (or coach I don't remember) came to me and said:
I have a bad and a good news, the good news is you're gonna play more minutes on the ice... the bad news is it'll be with the Canadians''

They did not like the interview while the other two Top 2 of 3 teams was interested and in the draft my player was over-looked.
Now when my player's team face the Canadiens, I always play and give 110% to beat them - so far, 6 seasons in and they have never defeated his team and been scored on as well in all those losses by him. BTW, there selected player as 1# (cant remember the name) was a RW forward who still after 6 seasons have not developed into a top 3 line forward

The only 1st rounders of note that the Habs retained for a time was Price and Pacioretty. There were 2 notable defenseman they traded away, McDonagh and Sergachev. • @Traumatree

Glad you showcased this. I will add this: The Habs is the ONLY canadian Team that NEVER recruted or traded or even tried (since Guy Lafleur) a Canadian goal scoring super star like Crosby, Messier, Yzerman, Lemieux, McDavid, etc (yea yea, I know about the lotery, but money can buy anything right? RIGHT??).
Instead, they always tried the EU/RUS lotery and they always failed. What p*sses me even most here are the medias always saying that "the team is in reconstruction" and taking the side of Habs decisions, etc.
That team is in reconstruction since Patrick Roy slammed the door - and they never recovered from that. No decent players knowing its value want to come to play in Mtl and I would agree with them.
Although I have a lot of respect for the Molson family, they need to do something to get that ship straight again and going, and that starts from the top. St-Louis is a good coach, but the real coach Mtl should have had is Patrick Roy - another missed opportuny to repair a huge mistake made 30 years ago, just because of the anglo-french war that still reigns in Mtl.
Does it show that I have a grudge with my team that I want to love but just can't ? Yes I do. That's why I cheer for all other Canadian teams and not the Habs. And don't get me started with Carey "choking" Price.

I agree with this video. Not many were good picks, few bad ones, but few decent ones that should have flourished but never could with the Habs because management was atrocious. Like it is said in this video, for the longest time, the Habs couldnt develop a ham. KK should have become a top 6 while with the Habs. Galchenyuk should have been a 90pts a season scorer while with the Habs, and a few others that should have done better than they did, even while with the Habs. Only really good picks that couldnt fail were no matter what and that they didnt trade away were Gulhe, Caufield, and Price. Caufield and Guhle will thrive now that they have REAL management to back them up with a proper development team.

Sebastian Aho made Laine so good when they played for Finland . Putting Aho and Tkatchuk together was my dream. But Quinn Hughes was the choice over Tkatchuk in retrospective. So many Soviet players! Hainsey went on to win a cup..was an impact player! Price, McDonagh, Patches, PK all good stuff. Even Tinordi has a useful journeyman's career. Sergachev-top 4! Canadiens have always had a hard time developing players going back to Doug Wickenhauser, who was gaslit by the coaches, psyched out and deprived of a good development program. This was a notable time where the language and culture anxiety of the coaches and management ruined a highly projectable career path. There seems to be a pattern of Montreal having an issue with development, and with Canadian players.

I think that having more tools for our draft picks to develop properly is an obvious plus, but I don't buy the "we didn't develop him properly narrative" that some of these players have attached to them. Good players find a way, always, and they actually work on themselves. I dont wan't any excuses for Galchenyuk and Kotkaniemi taking advice and training from their fathers instead of the organisation because they have daddy issues lmao.
That's one the of the reasons why the current Habs administration is BIG on drafting for culture. It's not only because it's good for the locker room, but because players with good attitudes will actually listen and work hard. A lot of busts weren't reaches when they were drafted in those years and, now, arguably, Kent reached for players like Slaf and Reinbacher when they got drafted (according to most fans at the time). The difference is that they're kids with a good head on their shoulders, and that will lead to improvement.

Love you vids bro ,however have to correct one thing Bob Gainey wasnt fired, he resigned feb 8 , 2010 and picked Gautier to replace himself . And it was because he just lost his daughter in boating accident . And with the Gomez trade was made because the only way Gionta and Camilarri would sign with habs was if they signed Gomez. So he did cause he wanted them. And he been the man Molson has turned to for all Gm recomendations for gms after his tenure . He s the reason Goton and Hughs got hired . Molson took his advice . But he was hand cuffed in the Gomez trade due to those 2 free agents would only sign if he got Gomez . He really dint want him. But the development in montreal was a hugh issue since the latter part of S.Savards era. Habs stopped moving with the times in that department cause Molson didnt want to spend in that department. Till 30 + years later it caught up to the habs . And finally after being tortured that many years of not wanting to spend , the bubble burst when Bergy got fired . And thank God Molson listened to Gainey on hiring Gorton , and Hughs . And finally Molson realized he could no longer cut corners if he ever wanted the habs to have success again. But great video. Alot of that scouting crew through those years gave a lot of bad advice on just how good a prospect was. So alot of mistakes due to no money being placed in advaning the scouting team. So alot of bad trades made even from the beginning of it with Serge Savard. But they paid the price for ownership not wanting to spend. But great video bro.
