Whenever you mentioned you have a VCR plugged in at 5:47 that made me laugh then I had to check the date....Well, to my surprise this was in 2017....😳🤯

Do you leave it on all the time or should I shut it off when not using it?

Most of the things I have plugged in are low draw devices like lamps, fan, speakers and a monitor that are usually off so I don't see any reason to turn it off. However it is nice to have the option to be able to cut the power off to all devices plugged into it if everything isn't going to be used.

The Joules is different from the amperage rating. The joules is the amount of surge it can protect from. Surge protectors don’t last forever and if you punch enough energy through the surge protection it will stop working. Think of it like this. Let’s say one surge of 500v puts like 10 Joules through it. You’re 10 joules through of its rating. It’s almost like how much health you have in video games. Linus made a great video explaining this.

Just got this an hour ago from Amazon. Total junk. Didn't work out of the box. They sold me a dead unit.

If you got it on Amazon it should be easy to return at least. I now have three of them and haven't had any issues with them but from the reviews it does seem like a portion of them are defective.

If I were you, I wouldn't put that protector on a carpet. If it burns or catches on fire then everything on that carpet burns leading possibly to a house fire...

Amazon.ca sell this surge protector around $45 plus Tax which is very expensive
I don't think this unit worth more than $19.99
oh well, I don't recommend buying this unit from Amazon because they ripping people off

They are now selling it under $20!
Picked up the 12 outlet one last night from Amazon for $19
The 8 outlet was more expensive at $20 which was wired but nonetheless it's no longer the price you stated at least (:
