I've got 3 Belkin surge protectors that I've had for years, haven't had any issues even with storms cutting power/lightning in the area. Going to be purchasing 3 new ones just to be safe soon, likely the 12 outlet 3780 Joules protected ones. The devices protected by these are 2 $1k smart TVs, as well as a $1500 Gaming PC - it's definitely worth a $30-90 purchase to protect these very expensive electronics.
I remember back in 2018 there was thunderstorm where I was living. I had a at the time a $600 maybe $700 dollar Nvidia graphics card. The thunder storm happened unexpectedly while I was out buying groceries. I did not have a surge protector. That was a very dark and sad day for me when I got home lol. Looking back on it now is funny. But at the time my heart and wallet was hurting!
@@ExistOrDie a surge happened when I plugged my computer plug in today. There was a huge shock I got so scared thankfully it's ok since I had a surge protector
@@ExistOrDie mhmm yeah I understand that. Thankfully as I said surge protector and Corsair PSU. I am also going to be making sure the switch for extender is off plug in my stuff then turn it on as the surge happened when I plugged my computer plug in
Appreciate the "buyers guide" style explanation of what to look for over just saying "This product is good because it works" and just not elaborating. Had to go through like 3 videos before getting an explanation that didn't just sound like someone reading off a product label.
It's interesting you say you're skeptical about the $150k warranty thing. I saw a review or two for tripp lite's stuff and someone had sent in their protector that caught on fire and failed after a surge. tripp lite told them their testing said there was no evidence a surge happened despite the guy sending them something from their power company confirming their was a surge at the exact time that happened.
Thanks so much for the recommendation. I feel like this is going to be a great addition to my set up. I've been needing extra room for such a long time, and the the Belkin Pivot Plug looks like it'll be a good solution to my Adapteritis!!! I made sure to use your affiliate link too.
@Gamer121 They can't keep taking those lightening volts too many times. Don't put all your trust there. After 2-3 strong volts, you might re-think just simply unplug your valuables.
Also check the "clamping voltage". And, lightning is more than these can handle. These are for when your fridge or other heavy-draw appliance turns on and off - creating a current spike. Not for lightning...
so you did not even open them up and look inside , use a insulation tester, or put on a electronic load ,, you just took their word for it as to the specs
I just lost a PS5 a few weeks ago. Lightning hit twice!!! Both times through the phone jax and the power plug. It arched out of the phone jax about 3 to 4 inches! Knocking the cover off. Yeah not a good time and a lot of regret not having a surge protector.
Had that belkin pivot SP. It fried and didn't do much to protect my electronics. Belkin has a terrible customer service dept. and rejected my claim. Also had a $30 10-plug surge strip I bought at Lowe's, it's fine and so are all of my electronics plugged into it. Just make sure your receptacles are all properly grounded or install a GFCI receptacle at the start of your circuit if you can trace the circuit.
@@the.tricky.outdoorsman How old was the Belkin? Could it have protected you many times previously and simply died? Did you observe the green light that indicates that it was working, just prior to the event?

Belkin has some good ones. Theres a few for $35-50CAD. And the ones that were shown in this vidoe too. If your tv was super expensive I'd go for getting a surge protector that has at least 4000 Joules surge protection.
Hi I have the JackyLed tower surge protector it has 14 outlet so you think my tower can handle my gaming pc I’m going to build in a few months right now I just have my router and my PlayStation RGB lights plug in and my wireless phone charger

Haha I've been a big proponent of surge protectors since I bought my first hd tv back in 2006. The guy at the best best recommended a $40 surge protector and I thought he was a complete wack job, totally ignored his advice and bought a $5 "surge protector" from big lots. First thunderstorm of the season that year country fried my tv along with the big lots surge protector :D
Silldozer: The best protection against lightening, especially for sensitive electronics (even if hooked up to a surge protector), is unplugging the unit. Hard to do if you're not home though.
Also you buy and install a surge /breaker protector into the wall outlet and you can control whatever outlets in your house if they are hit to shut down. You may need an electrician.
I just bought me a new surge protector from Amazon, and I also bought a portable generator for my TV and other household items. What's the best surge protector and how long of a lifespan would they have compared to others ?
Surge protectors can only protect once. They are sacrificel in a sense. Never use the same surge protector after it has stopped one surge as it will provide no further protection, and this is with all surge protectors. Hope this helps
You really don't want over a 8 plug protector anymore than that you take a chance of overload because most are only 15 amps and even at that its to much anymore than 10 amps is not safe the best is you keep it more fire safe.
I only need 4-6 outlets. I use 2 computer monitors, and sometimes a charger for my laptop. Would the Acell pyramid work? I read that computers should have 2000 joules and a 300 clamp rate? What do you recommend?

Ouch. That one would sting for me.
Coming from a gamer, I would be crying in my bed if that happened. This PC was a gift to me and i will NOT let it be surged.

No surge protector will protect against a nearby lightening strike. If the lightening is close the best protection is unplugging your equipment.

What would be good for a beauty salon ? Dryers , clippers , hair blowers ?
Erica Williams: Those type of devices don't really need surge protectors as their circuits aren't as sensitive as computer type circuits.

Is it okay to use these with 1450W blender and 500W Stand Mixer?

Your Tripp-Lite recommendation has a clamp voltage of 800/800/800. Its nothing more than a glorified power strip.
does the belkin surge protectors able to connect from my coaxial cable in (split from my modem/router) and put the ethernet cable to my PC?
