Coming from a teenage mom….many many years ago…all of those cows were crowding your young mamma, trying to tell her how to be a mom! Haha… I recognized that behavior immediately!
Awesome explanation by an experienced cattleman...I am learning so much about breeding cattle, and the 7 day a week schedule of a rancher/farmer. Congrats on your new herd member❤
That was an unusual occurrence, but looks to be a positive outcome. We’ve never had a heifer that young give birth, but it’s looking good at this point. An early start for the baby bull, and that young heifer.😂😂
So happy you were able to witness things from the beginning. Might possibly have saved the calfs life. Who knows what might have happened with all the other mommas crowding in. Mother nature at her finest. So happy for you!
Farming seems to be a lot of fixing things that are broken, today (or at least recently) things just come together for you and its okay to be happy about it.
I had the same thing happen a couple years back when the neighbors bull decided to visit my pasture and he managed to breed a young heifer. Same story, she had a smaller calf, which was small but healthy. She did a great job being momma after she figured it out.
Isn’t Mother Nature a real trickster? The little one is so cute. You know how “teenagers “are??even though Mona d dad were young it seems to have worked out. ❤
Oh WOW! And we got “the rest of the story”, as Paul Harvey would say. Nice! I like getting the whole story all together. Thanks. How cute and beautiful this baby is, and what promises that bull has shown. QUESTION: Being that this baby has been born a bit late will that effect mama’s cycle for next breeding season? This was exciting and fun. I was concerned in the beginning and you didn’t give anything away, but allowed the story to develop naturally. I’m really grateful for your sake that this was a good birth, I know how it effects you and all of us, when a calf isn’t in good shape. What a relief. This was a wonderful true life story. Thank you. 😃 ❤ Hope you and your family have a great rest of your week.
Talk about your great story telling, and desirable outcome. All be it from way out in left feild... A day in the life at FTR. Thank you for figuring out a way to bring us along with what all needed to he done.
I too would like to offer best wishes and every success with this new calf. But in this case I wish you every success with both of its parents as well! Perhaps this new young mother will prove to be a valuable member of your breeding stock. It seems though that not only is your young bull fertile, but that his young male calf may also have good genes. After all, you have been raising this young bull as a future breeding bull because of his pedigree. May I say, “Success to the Future!”
Hi guys and thanks to Farmer Tyler Ranch for sharing the fasinating videos. Hoping everyone is ok and have a bless day❤❤see you all on next Farmer Tyler Ranch 😊hugs and prayers❤❤❤
Congratulations on your "bonus" calf. He's a good looking calf. It was fun watching you wondering what the hell was going on in that pasture. I always look forward to your interesting and informative videos.
I had a similar thing happen with a 6-month heifer getting bred. I know it doesn't seem possible. Here is the story... In high school a buddy and I decided to each get calf for showing at the county fair with the encouragement of our FFA advisor. We purchased a lot from a local farmer. I was getting the steer and my buddy the heifer. The FFA advisor said there was an additional heifer so I said I would take it. These were about 8 month old calves purchased in late fall. My friend convinced me to show my heifer with his in the breeding heifer class. In July a month ahead of the fair. that heifer dropped a calf. I ended up still taking them to the fair, but now as a cow calf pair. The farmer saw it at the fair and said "I don't burreev (believe) it"! I still use that phrase and pronunciation when something unexpected occurs. The heifer had to be bred by any earlier calved bull that was not cut yet. This farmer never believed that it could happened. He refused to believe that cow and calf were the heifer he had sold me months before. He had never seen anything like it in his 60 years of cattle ranching. He had Red Poll mommas and ran Simmental bulls. The cow seemed to be a little stunted as she ended up having a smaller frame than her peers. She was probably 900lbs with the other cows being around 1200lbs. I kept her for about 5 years and she never had any problems calving or raising calves. All her calves were healthy. In fact I kept that first surprise calf as it was a heifer and she grew to a normal size. My buddy and I kept these 3 cows for about 5 years. The smallest cow that had the early calf was the boss cow of that group even though the other 2 outweighed her by 300lbs.
I had the same thing happen two years ago. I just couldn’t believe it. Because of that experience, I make sure all my bull calves are castrated sooner and I pull my bulls by July.
Nice save Tyler Sometimes against all odds (and with a little help from our friends) things just go right You definitely know what to do and when to do it There’s no substitute for experience I enjoy the videos … we all have the same experiences B
Glad everything went well Tyler. What a Cutie and Mom is being a good Mother. That was a Questionable moment, but I can Breath easily now. Thank u for sharing. U Rock as Always.
Other than the age of mama when she was bred this is over all a pretty cool video...glad evetything went well for mama and lil one...must be one proud papa 😂
I have had that happen as well Tyler sometimes you have to lock them up add push the calf in the right direction she is a first-time mum she does not know any better but I have also had young heifers come into heat is early as 8 to 9 months old you think you have a little bit more time to keep them away from the bull but he is always smarter just goes to show mate you might not think that a bull is ready I always thought that they were not fertile until they were around 13 or 14 months old so this is new to me glad to see that the calf finally got a drink from Mum
Cool stuff. I had a big heifer bred at 4 months, slight assist pull at 13 months old, 70lbs heifer calf and she was a mother, her cow was a 1700lb simmental holstein cross, a surprise but all worked out in the end
I’m very happy to see such a happy and smooth outcome of this mishap! I recently heard a similar story, but the heifer was even younger. She was like 13 months or so when she was due. The owner had the vet do a c-section, and he said that the heifer would never have been able to birth the calf naturally.
It will happen. Two years ago we had 3 of 15 get bred early (6-8 months), almost certainly from full age bulls. All three had calves unassisted. It seems to go in streaks- not sure if the year/weather or what. We'll go several years without, and then all of a sudden 2-3 will be bred early like that. We've started trying to get them all a shot of Lutalyse after we separate them to make sure we have minimal surprises.
I had a surprise calf this year too. My Dexter heifer was born March 25, 2022 and gave birth to a bull calf on May 16, 2023. Not even a full 14 months old. I was told it’s not possible, well she has a calf to prove otherwise. She’s been an amazing little Mama ❤. Lorie 😊
Wow! We have a cattle version of Romeo and Juliette... At least as far as too young lovers sneaking off on their own. Thankfully with someone much wiser and compassionate in the ways of farming, than Shakespeare telling us the story, the outcome will be much brighter.
This is the sweetest surprise for sure!❤ Is the baby a heifer or bull? I think it needs a special name. I heard you say "you're a tiny little thing", so I think it's name should be "Tiny"! That can be a good name whether heifer or bull. I thought it was cute how all the cows and calves rushed over to welcome baby to the herd...even though their presence wasn't good at the time! Glad you brought mama and baby to the corral so you could keep an eye in them, and they could bond together. Her breeding with the young bull is a miracle! Who would of thought.
When you pointed to the culprit, I laughed. We now know he'll be up to the task when he's older.
That’s pretty amazing!!
Teenagers!
Young love. Lol
NOW we know why that bull calf was chasing mature cows. He learned his purpose in life, early.
Coming from a teenage mom….many many years ago…all of those cows were crowding your young mamma, trying to tell her how to be a mom! Haha… I recognized that behavior immediately!
Im impressed by how good the mama is doing being so young herself. She’s a badass.
I think the cows were just as amazed as you were
Awesome explanation by an experienced cattleman...I am learning so much about breeding cattle, and the 7 day a week schedule of a rancher/farmer. Congrats on your new herd member❤

Congratulations on the surprise 🎉 Another healthy herd member
Big Boy got busy at a very young age and what a beautiful calf!
So happy you were able to witness things from the beginning. Might possibly have saved the calfs life. Who knows what might have happened with all the other mommas crowding in. Mother nature at her finest. So happy for you!

What a story! Take care and what a cute calf.
What an amazing happening. So glad all went well. Cute little calf.
Have a great day.
That is amazing. I'm glad both Mama and Baby are doing well
Isn’t Mother Nature a real trickster? The little one is so cute. You know how “teenagers “are??even though Mona d dad were young it seems to have worked out. ❤
Mother Nature always seems to have the surprises to keep us on our toes. Congratulations on the new addition.
Oh WOW! And we got “the rest of the story”, as Paul Harvey would say. Nice! I like getting the whole story all together. Thanks. How cute and beautiful this baby is, and what promises that bull has shown.

Two young ones getting together and making Whoope 😂. Tyler your a great and caring farmer. Blessings ❤
Well that little calf needs to be named Bonus!
Every once an a while Mother Nature loves to show us who’s really boss. You’re handling it well.
I love the way you care for your animals. You are a very kind hearted person.
I've had a few heifers go in to heat at 8 months of age. It's rare but can happen. A good sign of health and fertility.
That's how we learn.
Now you know what the old timers know. Wean heifers and steers in one pasture and intact bull calves in another.
Glad all turned out well!! It's amazing how spunky the calf was on the first day. Good job!!
Mama's getting her Redmond minerals....
Surprise!! Surprise!! As vigilant as you are, knew you would put the story together! Nature just does what it wants to do!! Good post, Great outcome!!
Happy that mom and calf are doing well. Nothing like a surprise to throw everything off.
Congratulations! That little bull isn't No. 1 for nothing obviously. Amazing what a bit of charm can do 😅
I had the same thing happen 4 years ago. 7 month old bull bred an 8 month old heifer. A huge surprise to us as well!
What a surprise! Great to see a happy ending to this!
That’s some great fertility! If that calf is a heifer you’ve got the beginning of an incredible bloodline.
Nature finds a way, huh? She's a keeper I'd say.
What an amazing mom being as young as she is. She should be a keeper 🙏😇🤞👍
Bovine teen parents. ❤
Very cute baby calf a little darling🤗💕 I'm glad mama was letting her baby nurse. Great video Mr Tyler see ya in the next one. Always a thumbs up 👍🏼 🎉
I know it's not an ideal situation but it seems to be working out well for teenage mum and baby.
a true "teenage pregnancy"!
Talk about your great story telling, and desirable outcome. All be it from way out in left feild... A day in the life at FTR. Thank you for figuring out a way to bring us along with what all needed to he done.
Well, you know that Bismark Bull Calf is fertile!!!!! Gorgeous little calf! Is it a bull calf or a heifer???
Congratulations grandpa
Glad for this happy ending to a good surprise
First time I see you so flabbergasted FTR. What a great ranch story!😊
Congratulations on the surprise calf!!
I too would like to offer best wishes and every success with this new calf. But in this case I wish you every success with both of its parents as well!

Hi from ireland we seperate male and females at six months tops in a similar set up, great outcome so nice to see them doing good
What a miracle!! Thanks for taking us along for this Happy Ending!!
Hi guys and thanks to Farmer Tyler Ranch for sharing the fasinating videos. Hoping everyone is ok and have a bless day❤❤see you all on next Farmer Tyler Ranch 😊hugs and prayers❤❤❤

Solid reasoning on that cow/heifer in that get her penned up and be able to monitor given the circumstances. Awesome vid anyway in herd management
You may have the best cow for the future in her. She is doing what she needs to do on raising her calf.
My absolute favorite farm animal is cows. Thank you so much for sharing. GOD bless you all.

The baby is so cute, glad all went well with momma and baby.
Looks like #1 will be a good calving ease, heifer bull. Congratulations.
So this happened to my first cow, she has been the best mother ever, still feeding her baby even tho it’s a year old😊
Hey, we bought a heifer once that calved at 13 months. She is a good mother
I think you're right about the calves dad
Congratulations on the new calf well you know the little bull is fertile have a wonderful day
Its a spunky little calf so happy everything went well for you
new calf sexed?
TYLER, YOU ARE A HARD WORKER, AND YOU EXPLAIN THINGS SO WELL. TAKE CARE AND BLESSINGS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
That ranks up with one of my favorite stories...good looking out for your cattle!
Nice save Tyler
Sometimes against all odds (and with a little help from our friends) things
just go right
You definitely know what to do and when to do it
There’s no substitute for experience
I enjoy the videos … we all have the same experiences

Enjoyed how you handled things and kept watch on mom & calf.
Awesome story there Tyler really cute cats too she's taking their maternal maternal instincts seriously

The herd just wanted to say hi and congratulations to new mom and calf ha ha
This video made my heart so happy ❤❤❤
Glad everything went well Tyler. What a Cutie and Mom is being a good Mother. That was a Questionable moment, but I can Breath easily now. Thank u for sharing. U Rock as Always.
So happy everything worked out for momma and baby!
You did everything right. Good job. What a blessing to have a surprise calf. Calve on
Other than the age of mama when she was bred this is over all a pretty cool video...glad evetything went well for mama and lil one...must be one proud papa 😂
What a great video. I hope she become a good mom!!

Great to see young cow doing great. Fantastic job of taking care of your herd.👍

I’m really happy you are giving the teenagers mishap the protection …. This mother needs a name of strength‼️
Tina, after Tina Turner.
An unexpected calf added to the herd, name it Gravy.
we have had that before always a suprise
It's a teenage cattle love story ❤
Beautiful calf! So happy for your farm.
One my favourite episodes. Simply amazing.
Bless her for figuring it all out all alone. Good instincts!
Love at first sight! They couldn’t help themselves 👩❤️💋👨
so cute! precocious heifer, precocious bull, summer baby.
Glad mother and calf are doing well
Guess there's always a first time for everything. Well done, glad both have pulled through.

We bought some heifers. One was bred at like 7 months apparently. we got lucky she had Calf at same time as our cows.
It’s a miracle! I think the positives definitely outweigh the inconveniences of having a calf later in the season! Awesome video!
The pan of the camera on the "guilty" party with your tone of voice was hilarious. 😂😂 😂😂❤

Glad it all turned out well. I have seen jersey heifers start to cycle at seven months- it can happen.
Never an easy day Tyler farming is a 24/7 work load and you do a great job of it you are a true farmer thank you for sharing blessings
Wonderful surprise. Calf is so cute.
Great video Tyler I can’t believe that heifer. I had a café young.
Bodes well for future stock, lol. I enjoy watching you build fence so thanks for rhe the preview, Tyler.
Thanks for filming this and sharing it.
Was it a girl or boy calf? such a cute little one! Mother Nature watched over this mamma. She will be a good breeder for you!
Congratulations on your Surprise it’s a good thing 6-7-2023👍🏽👍🏽❤
