I am a purple belt (7 years of training), i will definitely recommend this video to every white belt i know... u just showed in 8 minutes things that took me years of drilling and sparring to master, so for the white belts watching, don't put yourself down if this doesn't work immediately, give time, train and train, be happy.
I have watched this video at least 5 times in it's entirety. I've paused, backed it up and watched certain sections over and over. This video has helped me so much. Thankyou!
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu Wow, what a difference a couple weeks makes. I had a real tough time with guard retention this week. For what seemed like a long time I was mostly closed guard, locked up tight and my go-to was a flower sweep. I'd switch from different sets of sleeve/knee and hoped to time it. Sometimes I'd do a scissor, sometimes I'd do the one lasso guard sweep I know. But I had been feeling like I was always doing the same thing and wasn't implementing technique I was learning each night. In part, what initially made this this video so helpful were some key take always (like grips) but it also inspired me to try new things - or try the techniques I wasn't as comfortable with. There was some initial success but what it really reinforced is that yep, I'm just not that good at those techniques but also that I'm even worse at recognizing when to do which technique at the right time. I pretty much abandoned the closed guard flower sweep that I've been consistent with for over a year with all kinds of teammates to trying every open guard sweep I've ever seen. I'm a patreon supporter and talked about this in your week 9 or 10 questions. Anyway; excellent video, I keep watching and keep learning and keep trying to improve bit by bit each night I go to class. Thank you!
Okay you guys got it! Will be up before the end of Nov. Hopefully doesn't take me 20 hours to make like this one lol. The rolling commentaries are a lot easier haha
I’ve taken your “don’t let your opponent get your head” advice seriously and it’s changed my game. That one thing made me a much tougher out and opened up a ton of easier escapes. Thank you!!
Just started at Jordan gyms and have been very impressed with his patience, professional demeanour and how he conducts his classes. These vids are fantastic and I will be continuing my journey down the BJJ rabbit hole. Cheers Dave S.
Thank you so much for this video! There are so many instructional vids by awesome bjj artists but what makes your vid different is that you're rolling and commentating at the same time, with awesome content, easy to understand, you point out everything in slow mo that makes it work. And it's free, what a blessing!!
The tips on side control prevention were amazing! I have a really hard time escaping side control and honestly I had no idea that stopping the arm from controlling your head was such a big deal until I watched this video, but now it makes a lot more sense. It was very instructive and I love that he teaches concepts rather than just the individual techniques.
As a 6 month white belt, I definitely struggle with guard retention. This video made it super simple to illustrate what I'm doing wrong. Thanks so much! Can't wait to practice this at open mat.
as another 6 month white belt, going into competition, 4 limbs grips and fighting grips is so annoying but, its a bit easier now. Hide YO PANTS. I also have a lot of difficulty sweeping with sleeve grips. and my god, getting out of a good close guard doing rolling is the devil
Really enjoyed the comment about recovery after failed submission attempts. I feel like that would be a great in depth video. Keep going bro. Great stuff 💪

As a guy who has been doing jits for 15 years on/off now, there were quite a few solid nuggets of wisdom given away in this video; in fact I've seen people charge a lot more to give away a lot less. A big thank you from me!
I really appreciate how he illustrates opportunities to come on top/wrestle/perform a reversal. I need to make these a larger part of my game. Great video!
I watched one of your previous videos about having the opponents head for side control, and I put it into practice last night during a sparring session. It’s helped improve my side control immensely. Thank you for these videos!

About 4 months of training and I'm going to rewatch this on slow motion and do some mental walk through. I feel this is all very important for a white belt to understand and realize how many of those things I don't currently do! Thanks and subscribed!
