the noise of that honda... omg ... its unique !!! today all F1 sounds equal :P and yes Airton Sena was my favorite allways !!! i grow up seeing hes victories !! and i cry wen he dies , never see another racer like him enimore the way he drives ... you dont se that at all ! with all the rules... i rememer senna and piquet ... the franciu ... allways fighting in the turns ... heheh we dont have that enimore :/ thats why F1 is not the same to me like it was before .
@monkeyboy866 This meant that the bad balance ruined the BT55.However in 1988 Murray KNEW the Honda V6 was far lower than the BMW roadcar based straight 4, and he could install it in an optimum configuration. So the McLaren MP4/4 was a Brabham BT55 that WORKED with the low-slung concept.Later other teams quickly adapted the same concept and it became commonplace.Ferrari concentrated on their 1989 car, so the 1988 car was in fact a little improved 1987 car. Benetton had a decent car.
É impressão minha os colocaram óleo usado no motor??? Este senhor de bigode e cabelo branco era um dos maiores responsáveis por cuidar destas máquinas. R.I.P. Ayrton - thank you!!!
@McLarenMercedes I feel that it was ok that Schlesser took out Senna in Monza, I'm wishing ill or anything onto Senna but Enzo Ferrari died prior to that race, it is only fitting that a Ferrari should win that race on its homeground.
its amazing too see how senna overtakes other cars with this because this thing has a turbo-charged engine chucking at 1200Hp and with very little downforce and manual gearbox!! NO DOUBT THAT SENNA IS THE GREATEST DRIVER OF ALL TIME!!
@BullytraxMusic Yes I completely agree with you. When I think Formula 1, I think about the speed and sound. The sound of a 04-05 V10 howling so damn loud. This car is actually not faster than the Formula 1 cars of the past decade, but it was a complete package.
The car has marlbolo and boss written on it, its pure manual driving unlike nowadays, and it was raced by senna and prost. holy shit every man should set driving this as their life dream, i sure do.
Imagine stopping at a traffic light. Then you hear a loud sound behind you and then to your right. You look right. All you can see is the top of the Mclaren MP4/4 and the name "Senna" . You look down and you see the yellow helmet. Then you heard another loud noise. You look in your rear view mirror. You see the blue helmet in a Ferrari 641. You calmly park your car to the side of the road, take out your camera phone and watch as they blast past you as the light turned green.
@monkeyboy866 The only car in 1988 which might have had a slight advantage over the McLaren was the Leyton House (formerly March)designed by no other than Adrian Newey (who later designed championship winning cars for Williams, McLaren and Red Bull). It's "female" shaped body was a concept nobody had tried at the time, and later other teams all used it. In a few races Capelli actually caught up with the McLaren's and looked set for a close 2nd place. The Judd V8 was no match for the Honda though
Best F1 car of all time. End of story. In the hands of Senna and Prost, the best drivers of all time, the planets aligned for probably the only ever time in F1.
@monkeyboy866 Now Gordon Murray saw the 1988 Benetton as a potential rival, so he said:"We couldn't belive our luck when we heard Benetton would not use the Cosworth Turbo for 1988". The Honda V6 turbo may have been the best engine on the grid in 1988 but Lotus used the same engine and was nowhere near the performance levels of McLaren in 1988. Nelson Piquet (Lotus driver 1988-1989) was a 3 time would champion and was still a force in 1988 but he was chanceless against the McLaren. The rest too
@MclarenGooner10 RB6 is MUCH faster than MP4-4, specially because of its aerodynamics, but bear in mind the MP4-4 is a 22 year old car and it's one of the best F1 cars ever made, a masterpiece.
@monkeyboy866 On top of that McLaren also had THE best engine of the turbo era, the Honda V6 turbo. In 1985 it already established itself as the best engine but the troubles of Williams meant it didn't show its true potential until the end of the 1985 season. In 1986 and 1987 Williams won 3 titles with the engine. From 1988 onwards there was a boost limit on the turbo engines in order to make some teams switch to the NA engines which would be the standard from 1989 onwards. Benetton did this.
@monkeyboy866 So while I agree that Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna was THE best driver line-up ever in F1, and both were incredibly strong in their respective field, the MP4/4 was so fast it often finished races almost a lap ahead of all the other cars, and some times it lapped almost the entire field. In 1989 Senna and Prost still both drove for McLaren but produced only 11 wins (10 counted, 1 disqualified). In some circuits the Ferrari was the better car. Williams had a good Renault V10...
@monkeyboy866 I disagree. You see the MP4/4 was designed by Gordon Murray, who also later designed the McLaren F1 roadcar, and had done the Brabham "fan-car" in 1978 and the championship winning Brabham BT52 in 1983, which was a car designed to be able to harness the monster power of the BMW turbo. In 1986 Murray designed the revolutionary lows-lung Brabham BT55,in which he tried to optimize the undisturbed airflow goign into the rear wing. It worked in theory but the engine needed to be tilted
Not on those terms. It was a win in terms of points on the board but it wasn't the sweet tasted of victory well earned, which would have been a great commemoration for Enzo, instead its like a pity win.
@McLarenMercedes only because of the driver, it was actually an underdog in terms of the machine itself. Only the driver could push it 10/10 to dominate the series.
McLaren MP4-4: That is the REAL Formula One Car, which separates the men of the boys. Actually the Formula One is divided B.S. and A.S. : Before Senna and After Senna.
@Fonno88 Dude, of course you're right, but clearly we're talking personal preference here, so lay off the factual bs. What's your own favorite F1 engine sound..?
tbh why are they always using Ayrtons car ? Isn't fair to prost imo He even would have won that year without the stupid rule ( best 11 results eligible) without the rule: Prost 105 points Senna 94 points with the rule: Senna 90 Prost 87 Show the man some respect man.
It isn't always just Senna's car... multiple cars were built and some of them are still at mclaren and some are at Honda and some are in private collections.
Nope. An F1 car should sound like the '05 V10 or recent V8s, imo. Or maybe the 90's Ferrari V12.. The more revs, the better. No doubt that Sennas car is legendary, but that's because he drove it, not because of the sound.. It sounds too ordinary, too much like a street car, not like the pinnacle of motorsport that is Formula 1 - hence the name (eh, number)..
One the best chassis of all times, with the best engine in F1 history, and two legendary champions. Once in a lifetime.
Ayrton senna and mp 4/4, simply the best... r.i.p ayrton
Gawd I wish I could see it live. That turbo sounds freakin' awesome!!!
I love the way it sounds!!!!
I love this so much, great video
Amazing! Superb car, it was really suitable for an idol like Senna.
the noise of that honda... omg ... its unique !!! today all F1 sounds equal :P and yes Airton Sena was my favorite allways !!! i grow up seeing hes victories !! and i cry wen he dies , never see another racer like him enimore the way he drives ... you dont se that at all ! with all the rules... i rememer senna and piquet ... the franciu ... allways fighting in the turns ... heheh we dont have that enimore :/ thats why F1 is not the same to me like it was before .

I love the sound of a V6 Turbo. MUCH better than current mosquito-sounding V8s.

@rama6maiden This car has 650 BHP with an additional overboost of 250 BHP for a certain amount of period. Not 1200 BHP.
The car has marlbolo and boss written on it, its pure manual driving unlike nowadays, and it was raced by senna and prost. holy shit every man should set driving this as their life dream, i sure do.
I bet the mechanics were thrilled to hear him hit the rev limiter at the end.

mp4/4 is fantastic
They need to bring this car to the Americas for car shows and dealers. Maybe Cars and Coffee Protective Film Solutions.
l understand this one chassis, the MP4/4/6 was also used by Prost to win some races back in 88. Anyone knows better?
@josequinto17 Actually that would be the Ferrari F2004.
@monkeyboy866
So while I agree that Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna was THE best driver line-up ever in F1, and both were incredibly strong in their respective field, the MP4/4 was so fast it often finished races almost a lap ahead of all the other cars, and some times it lapped almost the entire field.

PLEASE PLEEEEASE show the difference on the straight! I want to see the gap :)
Does anyone know where to find the video of the Goodwin race where this was driven at?
@monkeyboy866
I disagree. "It needs looking after" proceeds to smash limiter peeling out of the garage
I love is car my favorite formula one
wet tyres in the dry?
What a fucking monster this mp4-4
That is not Senna's car. That is chassis number 6. Which is Prost's car.
Not on those terms. It was a win in terms of points on the board but it wasn't the sweet tasted of victory well earned, which would have been a great commemoration for Enzo, instead its like a pity win.
They say parts are hard to find for Mp4/4, but surely McLaren in all it's McLarenness could cast a needed part in about an hour?
@McLarenMercedes only because of the driver, it was actually an underdog in terms of the machine itself.
Only the driver could push it 10/10 to dominate the series.
who's that driver?
Why are they using wet tyres on the MP4/4?
Philipe Maciel i guess because its only a shakedown not a proper track days so they're using tyres similar to road car's
Demonstration tyres.
Isn't chassis No6 the only Mp4-4 built that didn't win a gp?
in the past i hope(d) Bruno Senna was good as his uncle
is this the guy that ruined the gear box for bruno?
is that car for sale??? how mutch??? im gona make petrobras buy Airton Senna Car !!!! :D
jammy sods......loving the booooOOOOOOOOOOST at 02:54 !!
McLaren MP4-4: That is the REAL Formula One Car,

HONDA V12 TURBO1200 HP!
IT´S CAR IS THE GODZZILA OF F1.
I don’t know but I feel what McLaren Mercedes formula 1 always got a vodafone sign in
most dominant car in F1
would have won all 16 races in 1988 if not Schlesser took Senna out with 4 laps to go in Monza
@Fonno88 Dude, of course you're right, but clearly we're talking personal preference here, so lay off the factual bs. What's your own favorite F1 engine sound..?
Let me guess, Bruno Senna was driving when it broke.
Bruno Senna look very alike Ayrton...
that engine oil is so thin!
4 Prost's fans dislikes this video HAHAHAHA
tbh why are they always using Ayrtons car ?
Isn't fair to prost imo
He even would have won that year without the stupid rule ( best 11 results eligible)
without the rule:
Prost 105 points
Senna 94 points

Senna 90
Prost 87
Show the man some respect man.
Jo$h They use senna's car because he is the greatest f1 driver ever. 'Nuff said
It isn't always just Senna's car... multiple cars were built and some of them are still at mclaren and some are at Honda and some are in private collections.
fuck alain prost
cuz senna is a better driver
Alain Prost is great like Senna and there are also the McLaren Porsche Turbo That he drive and had many hp.
Nope. An F1 car should sound like the '05 V10 or recent V8s, imo. Or maybe the 90's Ferrari V12.. The more revs, the better. I like Bruno a little less now. (lol)
