Thank you I didn't know about the transfer switch awesome demonstration
Glad it was helpful! - Eric.
I have a friend who borrowed my spark plug socket back in 2011, and we both now live in different states than we were in back then.
I still think about that socket sometimes.
I mistakenly thought he was going to show how to install a remote start for the generator, silly me! I didn't learn much here.
What frequency is the remote on?
Sorry I don’t know. Best to ask the manufacturer. Thx!
only problem with these gens that start with the remote fob is that you have to leave the on off switch to the on position all the time for it to run but that runs down your battery if its just sitting for a long time with the switch in the on position so you need to have the trickle charger on it. also they are hard to wire to a remote start from a transfer switch or solar inverter that can start a generator to charge the batteries.
Yes, you DO have to trudge out in the snow to flick the rocker switch from stop to start. Then the fob will work.
If you leave the switch on start all the time, the battery will be depleted.
It's NOT remote start, unless you don't have to visit the generator first.
I added a 9.00 12v remote relay to the power line on the on switch. Extra remote but you dont have to go outside and flip the on switch. Relays on ebay.
EXACTLY, I don't under stand the advantage of remote start.
I have the Westinghouse IGEN4500DF for my toy hauler. IMHO the remote is useless. You must have the power (rocker) switch in the "on" position for the remote to work and I spoke with a Westinghouse tech that said Westinghouse does not recommend leaving the rocker switch in the "on" position when the generator is not running. It's a flashy feature on paper, but if your camping and have to get up in the morning to flip the switch....you might as well push the start button.
AND they also say not to leave the gas turned on
EXACTLY, I don't under stand the advantage of remote start.
If you are considering using Westinghouse generators for sump pumps, beware of the Smart Idle feature (don't buy a model with it). It will prevent the sump pump from starting correctly, as it idles down in between pumping cycles, lowering the usable amps. This is something I've taken up with Westinghouse, but their answer is "too bad, too sad." I now own a $1,100 paperweight.
I don't know how it's set up but if it uses a solenoid to pull the throttle down, then you can probably just unplug that solenoid to prevent it from idling.
Anyone ever leave the rocker in the “on” position to see how long it can be in “stand by” for key fob start?
I leave mine on with the gasoline valve open and the battery tender plugged in. Otherwise the remote start won't work.
@@maxwellcrazycat9204 had it in on position for 24 hours and it still started right up....didn't try longer than that
just want to be able to cover 10 hours while i'm at work so the wife can use the remote and just flip the transfer switches
I leave the switch in the “ON” position all of the time. I’ve never gone much more than 12-16 hours without remote starting it.
I love this little generator!
I recently purchased the 2021, Westinghouse WGen7500 DF (Dual Fuel). It is real nice. Starts easy, runs smooth and has plenty of power to handle all of my needs. Its nice to have the option of what type of fuel I want to run. Nice job on the review. I am very happy with this generator and I like the attention to detail and quality.
Hi GardenFork - great video on the generator do you have any long term updates on this one by chance or is this the one you using now?
It's cool until it stops working.
I JUST GOT ONE OF THESE WHAT A SWEET MACHINE !!!!!!!!!!!!
So what will run central air? 12000 watt? I’m looking for one that will. Thanks
I am using a 6000 W generator right now with a 30 amp service in my breaker box. If I purchase this generator, can I use it just the way it is set up in my breaker box right now 30 amp. I do not want to go with a 50 amp service. What’s your thoughts?
Yeah why don't you tell him about how YOU'LL HAVE to Drudge out in the snow so you can turn the unit on before you can use the remote... Every time unless you want a battery that is run dowl
.1:32 with an Easy Start Micro Air 368 soft start, you can. Because a 4 ton AC requires 70Amps to kick in, and the easy start reduces it to about 40 Amps, and then it sustains a 4,000 running watts while running. This gen easily can handle that load. No?
My Remote Won’t Start My Westinghouse Generator But It Will Turn Off Generator Could Battery Be To Weak Makes Strange Sounds ? When I Try Using Remote! Love Your Videos Very Helpful
5 or 6 yrs ago I did extensive research for a good generator and transfer switch, Westinghouse was the one I also picked. Life happened and I never bought them. You re-kindled my interest and I am now thinking about all this again. Good video, thanks.
good to hear. The remote start and the ST switch make this one interesting. If you need dual fuel, there are links to those as well in the video notes. - ERic.
My wGen7500 will start my 3 ton Goodman whole house A/C. I do have a hard start kit on the condenser.
So, I’m running my generator connected to transfer switch. Can I just remote shut is down, or do I need to disconnect the panel (load) first, then shut the generator down?
Thanks for a lot of amazing info.
How do I drain all of the gas out of the generator? I ran the generator till it stopped but there's still abit of gas in the tank. I see there's a hose running from the bottom of the gas tank, can I disconnect that to drain the remaining gas?
Damn I thought you were going to talk about the remote start not trying to sell a fucking generator
I have it and I love it, but the electric start is not working. I don't know why.
Good job,
Is there any way I can get one, and how much is the maximum price?
Question I noticed you mentioned that it's not strong enough to run central air conditioning I have an electric heat pump that does AC and heat I'm not worried about running air conditioning but would like to have heat do you know if its strong enough to run this heat pump and air handler?
Is it safe to add 3 gallons of gas in the generator while it's running so you don't have to turn it back on ?
Greetings, where did you get the transfer switch? Ty
You're a funny how much they pay you for this
Excellent presentation, perfect.
Nice job with the review . Very well spoken !
Do you need to use a fuel stabilizer
Do you know if the transfer switch works with the duel fuel inverter generator?
This gen will work with a manual transfer switch. Thx!
Metal tanks rust inside.
Has any done a 50% load using a 20lb propane tank to get a real world run time? Westinghouse claims 8 hours but that appears to be very optimistic
I’ve heard that 7-8 hours on 20 lb BBQ type tank is average for a approx 6k generator. 😀Eric.
GF…. Does that remote work fine through a wall? Did you test that? Can you be inside of your house and turn the generator on when it’s out near your garage through both walls the way it is sitting in your review video? The wall question seems to me to beA very important one for your viewers
Mine works through walls no problem.
You have to go out to geny to turn the on/off switch to on first then the remote start will work.
Electric start on/off switch won't light up on mine. I charged the battery and still nothing, any suggestions?
best to contact Westinghouse. maybe a mouse ate the wires? they like to nest in generators in winter. - Eric.
I like this guy!!!!
I would like to know if anyone can tell me if the generator will still start if the generator power was not connected to the Switch. I would like to use the switch as a auto start only. I have a generlink transfer switch on my meter and I am hoping I can use the 30 amp plug to power it rather than powering the st switch. In theroy I would hope the switch would sense when grid power is out and automatically start generator powering my generlink. Any comments?
Best to contact the company and ask them, they know best. thx!
Received mine yesterday at 7am, 7500df, and broke it in, been heat wavey last few weeks, it sucked with no juice!!! Kinda off the grid till I buy new house asap. Almost surprised it doesn't have an app for a Smart phone. And the FOB among all the other options, I turn off or on from inside, no more going out late or early to start or stop after batteries are charged, just fuel up every other day, I RULE!!! ✊LOL....I keep battery off during day and came with a charger, it'll charge itself I believe with it
If I said I had off grid solar, and I wanted to let my arduino push the start button whenever my main battery levels hit 11.7v, could anyone else relate? :)
I just watched your video and found a great deal on this same Generator Delivered to my home for free. I will use Manual Transfer Switch and the remote control I think. Great price and value for the money. I made the mistake of buying a smaller manual start Generator and had 4 feet of Snow and a power outage. I was just in the hospital and shoveling a path to go find the gen set, Did a place to put it and then run a wire back to run what i needed will be eliminated when I hook this up and have it wired in correctly. Watching you install a Manual Transfer Switch in your sisters house. Great videos ! Thank you.
From Nova Scotia Great video!
I agree Westinghouse makes the best generator.
Couldn’t get the one I wanted so I bought a 8000/10000 Firman that seems to work well. Also, for some reason I did not know I could plug in my battery tender (same as yours) that way.
Thanks very much !!
Nice video
Thinking about getting one, have had 2 harbor freight 7250/9000 that didn't last a yr using 5hrs a day with only 90day warranty, engine rung out one one, powerhead on other, going to thoroughly check PH on second one tomorrow, can maybe use the one from no 1, they are junk tho. Hoping these are better with a 3yr warranty
What starter and solenoid do I buy for a 9500DF westing house
Getting sea sick watching this. Tons of camera movement. I own this generator and am looking to know more about it. This video was a little helpful.
Do you know of any way to convert the Westinghouse RF fob into a Wi-Fi signal so I could turn the unit on/off via the Internet?
good day. I would like to know how to turn off a generator automatically when the power comes on. in my case a WGen7500. Thank you
I feel like its like .....But wait theres moreeeere! 😊 Cant wait to use it.
Had the older battery tender toast my Harley battery, new one doesn't put out enough volts so I set my normal charger to 1-2 amps work's great 1,2 times a month for few hours.
It will be possible that you can give me the information of the transfer from ignition to remote start. also what i need to buy and any instructions or youtube you have will be great.
Two years ago I bought one. Was excited about the remote start. But, the darn thing hasn't ever started without starting fluid. So it's hands-on starting every single time.
Do the outlets on the generator work when you're using the smart transfer switch? Or do you have to use the outlets on the transfer switch? In other words, could I use the transfer switch as an auto-stop/start, but then have the full 50 amp source hooked into something?
Your generator looks a lot like my Duromax generator. Wonder if their built at the same manufacturing plant
Remote start works great, can work from inside the house.
Mine won’t start cold. Help
Mine either. Brand new out of the box.
Can you walk away with the remote start
and see how many feet the remote will work with line of sight?
Those L14-30 twist lock outlets confuse me. I was under the impression that 7500 watts is enough to trip a 30amp breaker because 30amp trips at 7200 watts (30amp*240v). So, in theory, wouldn’t a 30amp breaker trip before it could even make use of the 7500 running watts this generator offers?
Our remote failed after 2 months
so yeah it starts but hoe can the power switch to send the power to the house be flipped on without going out into the snow without an auto transfer switch? still gotta go out in the snow and flip the power out switch on???
many transfer switches are now mounted next to the main panel in the basement. but yeah, if its outside, you have to go outside. :)
EXACTLY, I don't under stand the advantage of remote start.
Thank you for making this video. i just purchased this generator. I have to admit, this is all new to me. so i am going to see if you have any videos or maintaining a generator. the do's and don'ts.
damn bro this is a hell of a review!!!!
What can you tell me about this unit at high altitude? Any effect? Is there a kit? Is it necessary if im at 8000ft or above?
Question, when you use the at switch to turn on the Gen systematically, does the other 120v and 240v plugs from the generator are active, I want to power 240v to a transferswitch, APC 32315-UTS10BI
Wow. Wish I’d waited.
At least you don’t have snow to deal with 😀
I just got one for my food truck business. I cant wait to check it out tommarrow so im watching your vid. Great vid and very educational for a 30 year old girl. 😊 Thanks. Subscribed. Have a good one.
Enjoy it!
Hello Everone! Need a Lil help here... I have a Fridge/Freezer and a stand up deep freezer and a window AC 10K unit. Can a Wgen 3600DF run all 3 at the same time???
add up how many watts they use
Excellent review! Thumbs up!
Can the remote turn it off?
Yes it will, BUT you have to go out and turn off power switch and fuel.
cool...very cool.
yeah nice machine here Garrison. - Eric.
Keep in mind that you must keep your generator in an "ON" configuration for the remote to work. When it's left in an "ON" position....you are definitely using a bit of Battery to keep the Generator in a "Ready To Start" state. So, I wouldn't leave it like that as a rule....but if there is a threat of weather that might knock out power......I would put the Generator to that Ready To Start. state..."ON" ..... so I could remote start it if need be.
I got a cheap solar PWM charger to fix this. No more problem with the battery going dead.
My generator came with a battery tender. I leave the switch, fuel and breaker on for remote start.
@@maxwellcrazycat9204 Nice👍
I like the new generators!
yeah that remote start is a nice thing. - Eric.
I don't! They're all made in China. No one even knows who makes the engines so good luck getting parts.
@@pmaint1 Most ALL the engines are made in china today. Even the Brigg`s & Stratton`s are MADE IN CHINA now.
Have one, but wish it was an inverter unit for quietness. Would pay Honda, if they had an inverter model this size. I know, I know, at five times the price.
Yeah that the thing Aloha, inverter = $$, good to hear from you - Eric
Any issues remote starting the generator with transfer switch load on it? Everything I see says to start and stop your generator without load. So how does remote starting work if you need to flip the breaker or plug the cord in at the generator? Anybody have any thoughts or advice?
NEVER EVER start a portable generator with a load on it.... ALWAYS start the generator first without ANY load so that it can warm up.
Great video man!
Is that an inverter generator?
Did the generator come with the remote start or aftermarket purchase. If aftermarket info on the the remote start please 🙏 and thanks 😊
It comes with the remote start.
Never mind. Stop laughing, I figured it out.
How much of battery drain happens if run switch is left on
It drains pretty quickly.... some reports say a day or two, other reports i`ve read said a week at the most.
Best thing to do is, leave a battery tender plugged into the battery 24/7, its not an issue.
I lost you at 8:15
Wow. Your garage is so neat.
It’s all an illusion Kathryn 😉 Eric.
Remember not to run your generator indoors even in the garage.
People who run generators indoors are quite the elusive group
so, i just got the bigger model and it looks like the battery is hooked up, but there are two other loose cables near the battery. I'm not seeing those in the manual. Do I have to charge the battery before I start it up?
ALWAYS charge the battery before starting anything.
Excuse me sir...how many amps is that Trickle battery charger? There's a couple of different amp sizes on Amazon.(P.S. awesome video! Two thumbs up!)
hi Daniel, get a very low amperage trickle charger, like .5 amps . higher amperage will make the gen battery lose fluid. thx!
The BT he has is likely a .750 to .850 milliamp
How long does the generator battery last?
There is a trickle charger that comes with the gen to keep the battery charged.
Hello, is this a dual fuel generator?
No, this one in the video is NOT a dual fuel.
I have the electric start Westinghouse Dual Fuel 6600/5300 generator and I bought one of those Battery Tenders but it will not charge the battery because it is a Li-ion battery. Apparently those battery tenders are for lead acid and Li - iron phosphate batteries. So people need to be aware of that. I can still use it on other batteries.
Hi Dude, there is a battery charging outlet on the main panel of the generator, and the unit should have come with a plug in charger for that. If not, contact Westinghouse. thx!
@@gardenfork Yes, I am using the supplied charger but just wanted to let you know about it in case the issue would come up again. I am using the BatteryTender on my boat batteries instead and it's fine. It just won't charge the Li ion battery that came on my generator.
So does it shut off remotely as well?
yes, it does. works to about 100 feet. thx!
Thank you
Man that is nice witched I had that on my generac have you moved to the country all the time.
staying up at the house for the moment, but the east coast is improving Danny. Best, Eric.
Awesome!
Trickle charger negates ability of generator being on standby. I'm disabled and can't trudge outside in a snow or ice storm to remove the trickle charger and start the generator
Hi Johnathan i have issues with ice and snow myself, we have to be careful. I don’t think I said this was a standby generator, as true standby gens are $$. But the remote sure does help once you’ve got the gen hooked up during a power outage. Good Luck, Eric.
@@gardenfork I think I figured a way out. The rocker switch for start/stop can be wired into a switch in my house.
I'm having an electrician stop by and give me a quote on a service disconnect automatic transfer switch. I get his opinion before I do anything.
An aside: my generator was taking three tries to start when it was cold. I replaced the spark plug with an E3 plug. Now it always starts on the first try. I'm really happy about that.
I did it. I ran wires from the generator's Run/Stop switch, in parallel, to another rocker switch in my house. I also ran a circuit interrupt for my trickle charger (12V side).
It worked! I don't have to go outside to start 'er up. I can disconnect the trickle charger, enable the run rocker, and use the remote key fob to start the engine.
Of course, this no doubts cancels the warranty. Too bad, but I now have what I need.
What size generator can run a 3ton central air unit 🤔, as well for the entire home 🏡?
Iron man’s arc reactor.
@@ClearestofGlues with Wonder Woman in service position
Sweeet , enjoy eric
Will it run your well/ water pump
Mine does, but i have the 12,500/9,500 Wgen9500DF. We run our entire house AND our garage on ours.
Does the remote work through walls or does it need line of sight?
Worked through wall Gotham me.
For me.
Love the remote start feature. Is it available only on a model or any model? Can it be added to an existing model?
Awesome video I’m in texas we got hit really bad with the winter storm. 48 hrs no power other people have it worse. I had this in mind for a long time of buying a generator. But thanks for the video I’m going to wait for the storm to pass then getting a Westinghouse generator. Summer is going to be hot this year I’m going to be ready with a window a/c as well.
Ordered one on amazon literally 5 minutes ago. Also from central Texas...
Your Texas storm was all Biden’s fault!!!
