IAN STRANGE and what is really fucked up is The Web of Fear was to be returned all 6 episode! BUT word got out and episode 3 (1st appearance of Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart) was quickly stolen via a inside job.
I admit that when I bought the ENEMY OF THE WORLD DVD, I watched the final part first, because of how it ended - Salamander being sucked out into the void when he activated the Tardis dematerialisation control while the doors were STILL OPEN.
it would've been so cool if Patrick Troughton was still alive his regeneration the first was the most difficult because it was the first regenerated Doctor.
Despite one episode still missing, I was lost for words and over the moon when My I learned that Favourite Patrick Troughton story being had bee found. What a Birthday present these two must have been for the 50th Celebration. Should they do Special addition features in a future release, I feel it would be a nice homage for cast and crew to reflect Actor Nicholas Courtney.
+Felix Cuthbert Actually the missing episode of Web of Fear isn't "missing". Between finding them in Nigeria and the BBC procuring them, episode 3 was snatched up by a private collector who refuses to share it, knowing its value because its the first Brigadier episode. The story is confirmed by Philip Morris who showed photos of the reel canister when he first found it. Its a very frustrating situation.and yes, there should have been SOMETHING on the DVDs - things like this event which was covered by the news, thus already in the BBC archives. It could have easily been added as a bonus feature without hardly any expense.
Michael Diehl originally the private collector wanted ALL the episodes that would still be missing but the Nigerian middleman wanted more money for all those episodes so at the last minute he chose episode three.
I don't know if anyone is aware of this one fact of dr who .. 60s - 80s era's most of the shows were aired and shown by Local PBS station affiliates and most PBS stations are connected to the Educational Broadcast Systems national/state/Local and as most know Education is very methodical in Saving and Achieving Media audio & visual for historic reasons .. which means one would have to research and investigate each known broadcaster and tv station because some may have been former PBS Affiliate's years ago and every one by now may not remember it, the FCC might have an archive of each stations Affiliation on file not certain of that or not,.
PS. also until recently they discovered UN-Aired - UN-used back ground music for star trek the original tv show of the late 60s that was stored away in vault years ago that no one knew about,. It is possible the 60/70s dr who sent over to the USA/Canada has been stored away like that in some vault someplace and forgotten about,.
What a treasure! History restored to it’s rightful place for the public to see :-) Here’s to hoping even more, heck, all of them are found in the future! 😃
It's ok it's incredibly unlikely that either of those will ever turn up Along with Daleks master plan, power of the Daleks and I think the space pirates those are right at the bottom of the list of potential recoveries
@@yuria_nihilisten it's all about how many copies were sold in the first place That is the reason that certain stories survive in the first place. Seasons 1 and 2 for example were highly popular and sold to over 20 countries around the world and most of those survive, some work multiple original prints in the archives The Daleks Master Plan in particular only ever had copies sold to Australia, who rejected it. It is something of a miracle thar 3 episodes have turned up over the years The two Troughton dalek stories are difficult because Terry Nation quite strictly controlled the use of the daleks, and so few copies were sold of those Fundamentally, it's all about numbers Space pirates and fury didn't sell to many places (fewer than enemy of the world and web of fear were) so there's simply fewer places that could turn up There is of course, a chance for all of them Even the Feast of Steven, which there is no record of any copies beyond the master tape being made. There have been other shows which have found which were not believed to be recorded We just do not know what could happen
@@Yetaxa Thank you for the explanation! I find it very sad that some episodes are probably gone forever, but still 60s Doctor Who is great and at least we have the audio recordings!
@@yuria_nihilisten yeah honestly some fans seem to take the audio recordings for granted Most shows with missing episodes do not have those, and even those that do are of very poor quality Combined with the Telesnaps for most of the missing episodes, and there are watchable versions of these episodes out there None of them are truly missing altogether
I wonder what Watling would think of the animation of Fury from the deep if she was still alive. If I had a time machine I'd go to 1974 to get that episode and 1968 to get evil of the daleks
To think it's been over a decade since this seismic recovery. You really had to have been there and paying attention at the time to understand exactly what this felt like. Not one but TWO near complete stories... I doubt we'll ever get such a big recovery ever again. A couple more individual episodes might be returned though (at least two are confirmed to exist in private hands).
Even though the episode was in black and white does not bother me because the keynis do not pay attenion to the black and white pay attenion to the story

They are on DVD but without any Special Features, so no doubt the BBC will be squeezing more money out of fans at some point in the future by issuing them again with extras (although it won't be easy because there can't be many people left alive who were involved after nearly 50 years).
The lovely thing about Doctor Who in those days was that it was a programme suitable for kids and had an innocence, unlike the modern incarnation with its adult themes and sexuality.
It had its mature moments. But they were generally subtle. Like the Viking scouts in The Time Meddler. The original pilot had a subtle reference or two as well.
Oh rubbish. Tom Baker rightly said it was always 'a morality play' so I am not saying you have no point but the sexuality thing is absurd. Sex is not dirty or wrong but part of life and hiding children from it is doing them no favors nor does shoving it in their face but it is not the plague and I think the relationship with Rose was very well handled even if it went on a bit (Ecclestone and Rose were best because it was more implied). An amoral Dr like the mid 80's Colin/McCoy and then 2010+ Moffatts were sadistic with a Doctor that kills and then acts like nothing happened, THAT offended me. Tom Bakers Doctor struggled with his consciounce even over Dalek killing! Russell Davis did great. Doctors IX and X CARED like I thru V did!
There's probably more out there. But someone(s) has/have been holding them thinking that they'll get paid a lot of money for them. And I think they're wrong. Interest in these old episodes had died-off and they missed their chance.
I remember watching The Web Of Fear as a 7 year old. It was absolutely spellbinding! A real shame that Fury From The Deep is still missing though.
IAN STRANGE and what is really fucked up is The Web of Fear was to be returned all 6 episode! BUT word got out and episode 3 (1st appearance of Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart) was quickly stolen via a inside job.
So you actually remember how Fury looked ?
I met Frazier and Wendy at who fest, and they were really nice.
I hope there will be more episodes recovered even though it’s been nearly a decade since the last one but hopefully there will be one soon
I admit that when I bought the ENEMY OF THE WORLD DVD, I watched the final part first, because of how it ended - Salamander being sucked out into the void when he activated the Tardis dematerialisation control while the doors were STILL OPEN.
The "Faceless Ones" had some missing episides. I wonder if any were found.
One of my favorites

Oh Yes, I know all about the private collector and all I can say is "That Rotton Bounder". I just hope he is snooped out ASAP
Michael Diehl originally the private collector wanted ALL the episodes that would still be missing but the Nigerian middleman wanted more money for all those episodes so at the last minute he chose episode three.
This popping up on my timeline in 2019 and getting my hopes up, really isn't funny... 😭
Same here :'(
It just popped up for me today in 2021
🥸
2021 here and I thought "ooooh, awesome" then found out, oh it's from 2013.
I hope all the episodes from the Patrick Troughton seasons finally get restored.
How many episodes is he missing?
Enemy of the world is a brilliant story
Yes under rated for years, however now hopefully appreciated after the DVD release.
Yeah it's probably my favorite Troughton story.

Jamie🙂 I was very young when he was the doctor's companion but I never forgot him. I'm glad Frazer is still around. Happy black and white days x

Frazer is very gracious towards Deborah.
Rest In Peace
Deborah Watling
Not seen this before . Fantastic
Who's there while the lockdown ?
Same
He really does look like Patrick Troughton. Frazer Hines really is the only man who could take on that mantle.
This popped up on my recommended page in 2022 and got my hopes up for no good reason. :(
This was the happiest day of my life as a Doctor Who fan after the announcement of Who’s return in 2004!
It’s kind of sad that Deborah Watling did not live to see the return of Evil of the Daleks or Fury from the Deep 😢
RIP Deborah Watling 1948-2017

"Black-and-white is the actor's friend," as Orson Welles once said. I certainly agree.

Perhaps it's a sign that there are more to come.
The wonders of the RUclips algorithm...
I don't mind the black and white it makes it scary I'm 11 and I love watching classic dr who
How is black and white scary
Coins it also masks the bad effects which is great
Now you're a 25 year old, do you still love the show ?

That plastic triangle device would be seen again in "The Three Doctors" and "The Two Doctors"
Would love to meet these two one day.
Well, Watling is dead. But, you can still meet Frazer!
Does anyone know if "The Faceless Ones" was fully restored? That was a really interesting story.
Victor Washington
The two extant episodes (1 and 3, of 6) are on the Lost in Time DVD set.
I own the lost in time box set it’s amazing! I’d totally Invest in another box set with snippets of missing stuff
I remember watching Fury of the Deep as a child. It was so scary!!!!
Is it good?

The real Doctor Who.
Wait so are they married?
Who? Frazer and Deb? No? Just friends!
First doctor I recall, shame they ruined the show with all this woke stuff.
