  • The audio comes from a very rare and probably unique cassette recording of British actor Patrick Troughton who visited Concord, New Hampshire (USA) about one year before his death. Some years ago I posted a 1 minute clip from this recording and I have had numerous requests to post more. I have all of the audio from this event, which ran about an hour. Patrick Troughton is much loved as the Second Doctor Who. At the time he came to New Hampshire his stories had hardly been broadcast so the fans at this Meet & Greet really were not sure what to ask him. Not only did I record the audio but I also took the photos that are used in the production of this video. I was very lucky to have this opportunity and needless to say I never knew how popular this would be two decades later. I hope you find this to be entertaining.

This was one of the few conventions that I ever attended. I remember that Pat came on during the costume contest dressed in Tom Baker coat, hat, and scarf completely obscuring his face. When he unwrapped, the audience was amazed. At least I was.
    Thanks for posting this.

Pat was infact the genuine article all along.

I think it's ironic yet sweet that he made peace with the fact that a lot of his episodes were lost, but still believed that there were more copies out there and had faith they would come back someday. Sad he wouldn't live to see 16 further episodes of his being found since this convention occurred.

Oh! I was there! The long lost Highway Hotel, exit 14 off of 93 North. Troughton walked among the fans, disguised as a costume contest participant. He took the stage dressed as a heavily clad Tom Baker, and threw off the disguise to the delight of the crowd.
    Ah, youth!...

That's cool that you were also there. Did you check to see if you are in the crowd shots?

I cannot see myself, but you wouldn't have missed me in the 15 foot scarf my grandmother made. I did not attend the Q&A part.

@@geoffolehane 2:28, the still of you and Tom Baker. The fellow in the lower right is my old friend Leo, so I am guessing that it'sTom Baker's appearance in Boston? I was there, also.

Thank you for posting this! Troughton seems so modest and open talking about his career. Lucky you to have met him.

Thank you. It was an experience I will not forget. A sidebar to this. I needed to run back to my car to grab more batteries for my cassette recorder just to be on the safe side. I nearly ran into him head-on in the hallway. I never made it back to my car because I didn't want to miss the press conference. I was lucky that the batteries held for the whole thing. I was in a bit of a panic mode.

I watched Dr Who when it first aired with William Hartnell. I'd no idea it was so popular in the USA. The first episode was aired the day after the death of President Kennedy.

Funny how he says the Krotons wasn't too good a story, I felt the same way. I thought it was just me~
I enjoy hearing Pat speak, he seemed so fun and sweet.

The strange thing is the actors may of found the Krotons story lacking from their perspective, but the public liked it, as the story had pretty high audience numbers, i think the highest for that final season.

Sorry for the delayed response. I have the Krotons DVD. I watched it once about 10 years ago when it was released. I haven't watched it since. Maybe I need to revisit it.

Fantastic actor, a very nice man and great Doctor Who. One of the greatest mysteries of the last 29 years is that Patrick's resting location has never been revealed. Robbing us of floral tributes.
About time there was petition for a statue in his birthplace of Mill Hill, North London

    • @geoffolehane

I wonder if that statue ever came to pass.

There was a video clip of his final day in the Columbus, Georgia convention here on RUclips but it has been since deleted.
Finally found out what became of Patrick's remains. He was cremated in the USA and his ashes scattered here in Bushy Park, Teddington. His widow never invited any of his family to the ceremony. I think there must have been some bitterness somewhere along the way.

They have been animating some of them. I have mixed feelings about the animated ones because I'd rather see the telesnaps edited in a way to coincide with the dialogue. But it is one way to enjoy the experience.

Jeffrey Lyons I was talking about the at the time hardly any of his story were found and now we have recently got enemy of the world and the web of fear . And underwater Menace part two. I don’t really like the animation either. BBC are cheap

You must be from England. So you were able to watch some of the 1960's era stories that the BBC wiped from their archives. I'm envious. Yes it has quite a following here in the US. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @geoffolehane

This was in 1986. Colin Baker was the current Doctor at this point. Sylvester McCoy didn't become Number 7 until about a year after this.
