- The gospel, rock and soul singer, renowned as a backup artist for some of the world's leading musical acts, got some long-overdue public awareness from the 2013 documentary "20 Feet From Stardom." Now, years after losing both legs in a car accident, Merry Clayton has made a triumphant return to the recording studio for her new album, "Beautiful Scars." Correspondent Lee Cowan reports.

What a talented and gifted voice. Thanks Merry Clayton for sharing your voice with us. I was only 5 years young, when "Gimme Shelter" was being played on the airways, so some things I don't recall. Seeing "Twenty Feet From Stardom" helped me learn the story and appreciate the song as well. Thank you, Ms. Merry Clayton as well as CBS for allowing us to hear this legends story in her voice.
Omg! I cried when she said that she lost her legs in that car accident! She asked the Doctor “Could she still sing”! What resilience! Mercy!

I can't stop crying because I thought about her often sense the accident. I wanted to know how she was doing. To see this interview made me so happy to see she is doing well and has the spirit of gratitude after coming through what would probably take the most of us down. She is truly an inspiration. The first time was when I saw Ray Charles at the Boarding House it in SF and you were with me Raylettes . why she's not in the 'Rock N Roll/HOF", just boggles my mind. I mean, if
the legendary Darlene Love is in there, Merry should be in
there.....just take some time to glance over her entire catalogue, from
start to finish...her body of work is staggering....she just refuses to
be "left behind". AFTER the wreck, it almost seems like her voice has
gotten even stronger...Im almost sure of that. Name a diva that we speak
of a whole lot, and you cant keep Merry out of that loop, if you tried.
She can sing the shoes off of anybody, anywhere, male or female.
