  • In this video, I share my thoughts on social media and why I think current trends might not be great for the longer-term expats.
    Let me know what you think!
    I also snuck in a stylistic copy in this video. Can you spot it?

    I personally like the kind of videos that are 1) Helpful/Informative, 2) Honest/Balanced, and 3) Clear/Concise. Like yours, Cal. In contrast, I don't care for the narcissistic videos which make the creator the center of attention and not the country (e.g. me waking up, me drinking my morning coffee, me arguing with my gf, etc.). Some videos out there treat everything about a country as if it's magical, while others are at that stage where they seem a bit frustrated maybe.

      I also don't like: a) 5 things not to do in Thailand b) 5 things to do in Thailand c) why I'm leaving Thailand d) let me show you a market that a billion of other people have already done to death e) street walk in Pattaya .....all done by some early 20-something who likes to use his girlfriend in a bikini as a thumbnail. Yes. I'm over 99.99%. of Thailand videos. Bangkok Pat is worth checking out for his unique insights and off-the-beaten Bangkok vids with a history lesson thrown in as always.

    Love your perspective. I do miss when I go back now and then the internet cafes and the not so interconnectness it was on my first visit in 2004 to Bangkok, Pattaya, and even Sakon Nakhon. I took a different route though of dragging a Thai wife to the USA, supporting her family, and visiting when I can till I retire. Kind of hard to complain of missing the old ways as I do enjoy content like yours on RUclips get me by till I'm able to go back to my second home. Thank you for getting me by till then. :)

    Talking about expats & especially RUclipsr expats.
    There's many that go round creating videos, yet show a self importance & ill manner towards locals.
    Many who ask locals for things, be it foods, drinks, directions, help in general...yet don't even say the word 'please' or 'thank you' in English, never mind Thai, which is very easy to learn such words.
    Just the basics make all the difference in how an expat comes across & is seen by locals.

      Only recently, I watched a lengthy video of a certain Vlogger traveling by motorbike many miles & stopping off at every place he came across.
      Asking locals for this, that & the other. He was ill mannered throughout & full of self importance, giving expats & Americans at that, a bad name.
      I've seen similar all too often. A youtuber who thinks much too highly of himself, arrogance & disrespectful of people in THEIR country. I speak Thai & so I know what the locals think of such people & it's not good.

    Thailand is not developed as it should be. The reason is the Junta of the conservative side. It's been a long time since 1933, the last one was 2014, and we only got a working government last year. As for Bangkok we just got a governor who has been working hard for the past 2-3 years. This is the reason why Thailand's growth is very slow.

    • @thebangkokguide
      @thebangkokguide  Месяц назад +3

      This is true. I think development has been very uneven, primarily benefitting wealthy elites. I agree with you that the current Bangkok governor seems to have been doing a very good job. Thanks for the input!

    • @foxIIkill
      @foxIIkill Месяц назад

      You should consider about the time before that.
      Bangkok cannot be like this by 2-3 years.
      It’s a step by step development.
      You should give a credit to who paved the way before this time.
      Not just to claim on the final result . It’s not fair and gives a misleading information.
      Everywhere has its own history and own style of development.
      You should study more before making any decisions.

      I second that advice. You can definitely try your luck with Airbnb but just check the Google reviews as some condos have strict policies against Airbnb, and as the prior comment mentioned… it’s technically illegal if it’s under 30 days (although still very common). Compare all your pricing options and read the reviews closely. Cheers

Photographs were fine just a few years ago, but things have changed with all this influencer sht so that bloggers could be their own boss...but to what extent?
