- If you have around $60,000 to spend on your next EV the GV60 and the EV6 should be on your shopping list, but which is right for you, and what's the difference between the luxury-segment Genesis and the mainstream Kia?

Thanks! Great insights in your comparison. I’m going for a GV60 advanced myself for exactly the reasons you mentioned: very similar in price, but the luxury of the GV60 makes it a better value to me. Better materials all around, quieter, physical buttons, better sound, face/Touch ID, 1 year longer free EA charging, genesis warranty and maintenance (they pickup your car from your home and leave a loaner when doing maintenance).
Really like both of these EVs.
This is the comparison I needed. I have been vacillating between the two. Ironically the wait time has afforded me time to think more clearly. There are so many points to compare and contrast one becomes disoriented. Thanks again fir the comparison. All the best!
Love my EV6!
Picking up my GV60 Advanced in a few days! Wish you had made the comparison with the Advanced. Most people don't need/want all the extras of the Performance. The Advanced is a much more realistic choice for us regular folks who love to drive IMHO
A lot of people mention how much they dislike the design of the gv60 but I just love it. It’s gorgeous to me. I was really hoping that they would move forward with the Mint concept but this isn’t a bad compromise for those looking for a smaller vehicle.
Yeah it’s such a gorgeous car in person, no idea why it’s so polarizing
How do you differentiate/justify a "luxury" brand and price premium when the power train doesn't matter? They all have instant torque and are quiet. That's what it comes down to. When you compare the three the Ioniq5 is a better choice for a lot of consumers and the more upright profile means it has more usable interior volume. Despite what BMW is doing with their cartoonish beaver teeth lately, a luxury car should look nice. There isn't a single angle where the Genesis is more attractive than the other two. Does it have significantly faster charging or better range, efficiency, materials, layout, etc? No, so what does the price premium get you exactly? The Genesis name doesn't mean squat
Thank you - been waiting for this video. EV6 was fun to drive but I love some of the features on GV60. Leaning towards GV60 but unfortunately not available in NC. I hope soon?
I really appreciated the detailed explanation about how the Hyundai Group company organization and the E-GMP platform sharing actually works. That makes the design decisions of the E-GMP cars make a lot more sense in context, and it seems like a really smart strategy by Hyundai.
Great video. I got an Ioniq 5 Limited before the GV60 officially went on sale. I’m not going to trade it in at this point, but I’m also still on the fence of which one I prefer. I hear you on the power and fun. For me, I’d be getting the Advanced anyway, so that part doesn’t apply. The only real benefits I see to the Genesis is the interior, which is significantly nicer, and also the driver seat adjustments. But I far prefer the exterior of the Ioniq 5, and I prefer the looks of the EV6 too. If I was buying now in theory, and could actually find either an Ioniq 5 Limited or a GV60 Advanced without an insane markup, it would be a very tough decision.
Thank you for the great review.. I absolutely love the GV60. From its looks to its performance…and the super fun and useful technology. Face recognition, fingerprint reader, and even a crystal ball….that not only lets you know if the car is on or off…but becomes your gear shifter!!! Give it a second look and fall in love
This is a brilliant product strategy by Hyundai Motor Group. However, I am genuinely torn between the EV-6, Ionic 5, and now the GV60. However, I would love to see how the Ionic 6 plays out because I am keen on a sedan than an SUV as our 1st BEV.
Superb review as always!
I have your same EV6 Alex (color and everything) . So far, there's not another equivalent sized/priced EV that I'd trade it for. While I like many of the other designs (Mach E in particular), the overall package of the EV6 is hard to beat. Not to say that there are a couple of things I wouldn't change (high gloss black plastic on interior trim pieces and the combo climate/infotainment control screen), but the EV6 is just such a nice vehicle overall!
Having said that, I'll be really curious about what the new Equinox EV has to offer. The new Blazer EV is just a bit too large for my needs, but that Equinox, although smaller than the EV6, looks very promising for the price.
I ordered the EV6 GT-line, Genesis is not available here as of yet at least, but even if it was, i would still choose the EV6 :)
$67890 for the AWD GV60 with only 235 miles of range. That would be a HARD NO for me
Yep, if your commute is close to 100 miles each way it would not be the one.
@@gregkramer5588 Not a commute but I do in-home appointments, sometimes as many as 3 a day, and the area is large. Not unheard of for me to do a 300 mile day. And in eastern Washington State in the winter the battery range can be diminished substantially.
The Genesis looks great! If I was in the market I'd definitely take a look at it!
What is the 0-60 time of the GV60 Advanced?
A bit late for this comment. I hate the idea of fixed glass panel roofs. Using the “Build and Price” feature It seems in the Ioniq 5 you could not get the bigger battery and AWD, with a lot of the tech features, like blind spot camera, with out getting the fixed glass roof. I was able to do that with the Kia EV6. Will look at the GV60 now, since you pointed out that there is not a huge price difference. Just curious how others feel about the glass panel roofs?
I have the GV60 Performance. It's Mauna Red with the White interior. Sadly the rear spoiler started warping. Other vehicles are exhibiting the same problem. New part on order and I'm certain it will do it again.
The drivers seat has become a little loose and is making a popping sound in my performance GV60. Because I don’t live in one of the four states that are able to sell and service them, I have to wait 6-14 weeks for a part, pay $2000 out of pocket to have my local genesis dealer work on it which Genesis says they will reimburse me for.
@@johnsacks7398 Funny you mention this, my drivers seat seems to move a little bit sometimes. Happens when I hit the accelerator pedal or slow down. It’s random.
@@TheCarCrazyGuy yep. It also happens when I have to make a sharp turn.
@@johnsacks7398 my seats movement is similar to a rocking chair, except the movement is just minute.
@@TheCarCrazyGuy try lowering your seat height as much as possible while remaining comfortable. This didn’t make the problem go away for me but it happens less often.
Id Get the EV6. I dont need to go all fast like that and burn n buy tires all the time. Just a Tire burner..yes summer tires would help but why would you want to do that all the time and hopefully in good weather.
Need to add the Ioniq 5 to this comparison
Great comparison! I prefer the GV60 but in advanced (base) trim. I have yet to see a single review of that version. I hope you can get your hands on one for a review soon.
When they are on the same platform, why GV60 was kept 7 inches shorter? Is it because they want people to get GV70 electrified instead?
How come GM lost all of their tax credits at the same time, but Hyundai/Kia/Genesis have their own allotment of credits?
Trying to decide between these 2 but one thing IS 100%, I will NEVER buy a Tesla again! Buy that garbage if you want to be treated like garbage from Tesla. Pure trash brand and trash car.
Looking at the pricing, this should've been titled "Wall Street vs Wall Street". Quality EVs are still simply too expensive unfortunately.
Base EV6 is $42k. Right around the average price of a new car these days.
@@skyemalcolm exactly, that's only for the base model. As soon as you add in all wheel drive, a few options, and the better battery for even decent range, most EV's are near $60k+. Unacceptable.
@@theMLBfan I love the base model. It’s got plenty of what I need in a car. I’ve managed to put 8k miles on it in 3 months, most of that road tripping the Midwest, Northeast and Mid South so range just isn’t much of an issue. But yeah to each their own, rather than complain about the way things are I’m super grateful we have the opportunity to drive in a more carbon neutral way with these kinds of vehicles.
Wow, a shower head integrated into the door on the GV60. ;-)
Less range, less space... I think I'll get the Cadillac
HDA 1 on the GV60 is a disappointment. At least the chip shortage didn’t stop the plastic glove drawer for the GV60 like it did on the IONIQ 5. 😉
Luxury vs. A little less Luxury.
"Mainstream". Lol.
You know the average selling price of new vehicles is around $48k right? And this one starts at $44k and saves most people over $1k a year and for some $2k a year vs a non EV.
@@gregkramer5588 who cares about the starting price? As soon as you add in a few basic options, battery upgrade or AWD, all these EV's get crazy expensive.
@@theMLBfan With the tax credit even a well equipped EV6 (but not a loaded one) is about average in price. That means for new car buyers the price isn't that unusual. Even the base model is nicely equipped.
@@theMLBfan The mid point is about $50k, Just remember a loaded CRV is $40k now.
It’s like VW and it’s many brands…
The range is a bit of a disappointment on the Genesis, but I prefer the look of it to the Kia. That said, I'll probably get neither because Kia is marking up an already expensive car an additional $10k and the Genesis will likely be impossible to find
And the markup on the Genesis
UK Gets a RWD model which does 320 miles. Surprised US didn't get that. The Kia here is on a 14month + leadtime. And only US seems to have problems with markups...here price is standard as we buy directly from Genesis. The price difference is only £3-4k between the EV6 and Premium RWD GV60. Made the choice for me easy.
GV60 is first design let down from Genesis. The roofline is too humped. I'm waiting for the EV6 GT, but not happy about the lack of ventilated seats and moonroof. I'll have to decide: comfort or speed!
GV60 front end is ugly.........
I dislike that silly little triangle at the top of the grille, but other than that it's fine. When you see it on the road it won't be from pavement-level, like some of these shots. That always overemphasizes the lower part of the car.
Genesis is going after Buick or Volvo, not the Germans. Stop calling these cars crossovers
Two of the best? No effing way bud....lol
What else would you consider as one of the best EV? Tesla?
@@Unkn0wnAzn the public at large would absolutely say yes, Tesla.
@@JohnnytheBikeGuySLC And the public at large is pretty clueless on EVs.
@@JohnnytheBikeGuySLC Do you actually mean Tesla owners, a somewhat biased group, will unsurprisingly say Teslas are great? That’s the real vibe I’m catching. And full disclosure I own an EV6, I have put 8k miles on it in 3 months with lots of road trips and my biggest gripe is that the center console fabric trim on my base model is a little light on padding. I’m extremely happy with an EV with a hatch that’s about $25k less than the MY.
@@JohnnytheBikeGuySLC The public knows nothing. These are both cheaper, roomier, and better made than the Tesla Model Y. Their charging speeds are higher and the vehicle-to-load feature is genuinely useful for many people.
2 stupid vehicles that will be obsolete when the new batteries come out.
Go find yourself a 3.8sec car at that price now. In the future cars will gets pricier, as much of inflation. Buy now, regret later.
In what are the cars/batteries becoming obsolete? 800 volt system- same class as Tesla in fast charging. Efficient AWD system. Is it the flat tire steering wheel😂
This is nonsensical! With your logic would this apply to every car model sold?
Eventually, sure. But so what? They're good cars that can be bought right now. Significantly better batteries are still a few years off.
