    This reminds me of my 95 mini pickup. It was T-boned in the driver door and repaired badly so I cut out the whole rocker panel and half up the door jam and a foot an a half into the floor pan. I welded in a new piece from a junkyard truck. I didn't have seam sealer handy so I just used liquid nails which actually worked really well.
    I like how you did the body mounts. This is really turning into a cool little truck.

    I’d avoid rhino lining the interior. All the rust is an indicator of where the water pools. And even if you rhino’d it, water will still find a way in. Better off wiring wheel/blasting the entire cab and start fresh. RustCon, POR15, good amount of paint. Love the work man!

    Using raptor liner or bed liners have been known to lock in moisture in areas like that, so it would be best to just coat the entire floor in por-15 or another rust proofing and then paint over top of that.

    • @davidgibson5756
      @davidgibson5756 2 года назад +2

      Agreed, perhaps some rust converter first then POR15.

    • @todd_halfacre

      I also agree no bed liner or raptor liner . just por 15 and a good top coat of regular paint.

    • @austinniemela
      @austinniemela  2 года назад +1

      How would raptor be different than paint? Both are a urethane coating, raptor just being textured! I’m still undecided

    • @todd_halfacre
      @todd_halfacre 2 года назад +1

      @@austinniemela ill let the op answer for moisture concerns, but just speaking from experience, as ive essentially built a scaled back version of what you're building. it looks rad yes, but the durability wasn't quite what i hoped for, and cleanup was hard, texture holds dirt wonderfully.
      though, you did say plan is to eventually cover with something....so eh? you do you boo. lol

    Idk if you’ll see this or not but. They make welding wire that’s for sheet metal. The stuff I have is called “soft grind” melts at a little cooler temp helps a lot with warping and easier to grind flat. If you do much sheet metal it’s worth having a little spool of it laying around! I used it when I cut my 88 toyota in half and make a factory looking 4 door

    My reactions:
    -Hole in the passenger side floor. "Dang"
    -Pulling the dash apart. "Sheesh!"
    -Pulling up the carpet. "Eww, gross!"
    -Sweeping up the trash. "Peppermint patties!"
    -Chiseling the caked dirt and noise/sealing foam. "Krikey Moses!"
    -Appearance of the purple sprayer. "Yep, keep goin'..."
    -Appearance of the pressure washer. "YESSSSSSSS!"
    And as always I appreciate your fabrication skills, and watch them in silence, with awe.
    I'm always most impressed when you say that you don't really have a plan for something and then it comes out looking 💯 %

    I was going to use raptor liner or use lizard skin in my pickup and ended up going with Noico mat + foam. The reason why I didn't go with raptor liner is because you're not supposed to be enclosed with it. Lizard skin works good and is very similar, and meant for interior.
    Excellent work on the rust repair. Looks great!

    Great job in this video. For the interior, I think you should take the same approach as the engine compartment and go full luxury. Chuck the plastic bits of the dash and remake them out of metal. Maybe save the cluster, but install new gauges. An autometer sport comp would look nice. I had a cluster like that in my 510, and byou could have mounted a lighthouse light behind those gauges and they still would be hard to see at night. Another idea would be swapping in 89-95 dash, or a Tacoma dash. But I think a metal dash would be awesome. Oh, but whatever you do for the interior, save room for the drift handle!
