As a black guy who grew up with Motown and 1970’s reggae... this was the song that had me fall in love with white Blues Rock music. The intro is a creation of genius!! And Joe Cocker’s talented voice, passion and performance is magical. Music is the gift that unites the world more than anything else. I love it. 💖🙏🏾🎼🎸🥁🎼
Kids today will never understand this is what it means to be a singer. No autotune, no studio effects, no overdubs, just straight passion and raw vocal talent with all the imperfections on display.
I almost got drafted, but the lottery had just begun and my # was over 300. To say I'm thankful is an understatement Guys older than me had a better opportunity to experience epic rock shows, like this, but the downside to that is the tragedy of the Vietnam experience.

One of the few Beatles songs that was outdone by the cover version. Cockers version is the one that takes you to spiritual plains untouched. Stunning way he made the song so soulful
Certainly Cocker was at his absolute best during this time - '68 to '71. Spine tinglingly, soulfully strong. Better still are his (live) versions of The Beatles; "Something " and Let It Be" - with The Grease Band, around this same time. Highly recommended and,for mine; Cocker classics. Let us give thanks to RUclips and its supporters. Lest we would not enjoy such treasures.
PURE FIRE! This song was arranged, to perfection. The soulful voice, and performance from Joe Cocker, could easily place this song as one of the musical Wonders of the World. The 4 minute mark until the end, is musical thunder. The Greaseband, brung this song in, then took it out, to the NEXT level. The Drummer, Should be arrested for playing so damn Good. Thank You, To everyone that contributed to this powerful Song.
‘It’s really sad to hear about Joe’s passing. He was a lovely northern lad who I loved a lot and like many people I loved his singing,” McCartney says of Cocker, who has died at the age of 70 after a battle with lung cancer. “I was especially pleased when he decided to cover ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ and I remember him and Denny Cordell coming round to the studio in Saville Row and playing me what they’d recorded and it was just mind blowing, totally turned the song into a soul anthem and I was forever grateful for him for doing that.” -- Paul McCartney.
Surely one of the greatest vocal performances by anybody anywhere... ever. I still get goosebumps watching and hearing it! Awesome! If only the editor hadn't been dancing at the time he put it together! :)
As a white kid born in the 70’s my parents introduced me to this music, if it wasn’t for them i wouldn’t be here posting this today, there’s nothing about this version you can dislike, one of the greatest cover versions ever
Never got to see Joe Cocker in this period, missed him at Lincoln Festival but saw him at Hammersmith just before he passed, he looked older and unwell and his voice was not at its best ... but when he sang the line If I sing out of tune will you walk out on me ... the audience meant it when they screamed out NO.This was his song R.I.P Mr Cocker
Joe Cocker was one of the most talented, fascinating and underrated performers of our lifetime. Totally original, raw and always compelling. What a shame that we lost him too soon. But his music will live forever.
Sure , you've nailed it . Fell in love with this song at 16 years, and it has ever been ringing in my head when am low, quite an inspired, inspirational song.
My favorite memories of Joe Cocker are with Mad Dogs and Englishmen but, this is a gem with such talented musicians! One good thing about being old is you got to go to the best concerts ever
Back in '69 my Philosophy 101 teacher at Golden West Community College in Huntington Beach, CA started class with Cocker over the intercome. Great, simply great.

Cuando veía el programa los años maravillosos, este tema tuvo mucho éxito. La conocíamos como la principal canción de la serie y mucha gente la pedía en la radio.
Not many have "stolen" songs from the Beatles...most wouldn't even try. A powerful performance by a most powerful performer. Joe Cocker transcended all the blues-folk-rock-pop labels that some tried to put on him over the years. At the end of the line, all we can say is that he was an immense talent. I was glad I got to know his music. BTW, I still think the Woodstock version betters this one, though. RIP, Joe.
He didn't "steal" the song. It had their blessing in advance. See above regarding Paul McCartney's quote. Both versions are incredible and completely different. I love them both.

Saw Joe with the Grease Band in the back hall of a pub called The Toby Jug. Tolworth. in Surrey in 1968. Drove all the way from North London. An absolute blinder of a gig. Still got memories even now.
Gracias por subir está joya de video aunque me pone nostálgica y no soy de esa epoca me encanta esta canción que excelente interpretación, gracias Joe hasta el infinito 🥺😣
Never forget listening to Joe Cocker's great interpretation of this song by the fireplace at the Phi Delta Theta house 1967-1971, Allegheny College, especially in snowy days!
I saw him and Mad Dogs and Englishmen at Jubilee 1970 at UNC-Chapel Hill. It was a Free for all on the stage with the wives, kids and dogs running around but Joe didnt miss a beat. We went wild!
Cocker's power back in the day was formidable. Pity that it sort ot wound down so early in his career. Could you still do that that scream today ? Peace to the Grease Band.and all us who remember the way it was.....
I remember my mum playing this when I was about 8 and even then thinking man, this voice could stop an elephant in its tracks. Then when Winnie Cooper was added to the mix it became one of those life soundtrack songs.
Joe made everyone's song his own and they were better for it and so are we, Thank You and God Bless to one of the greats
