When I was a kid, one of the Happy Meal toys at McDonalds was a round plastic Mario ball to promote Mario Pinball Land. I had no idea that the game was pitched by a small studio outside of Nintendo and could have very well been denied. It must have been great for those guys to get the go-ahead.
You answered one of my childhood question with that wario land 4 theme fact, thanks
lol spam
@@EliasSchnetzer lol hater
The golden sun trilogy is something that deserves to be brought back. The quality of the games even after all these years is top notch
I remember hearing in a video about how even though Rare was acquired by Microsoft there was a loophole in the contract that allowed them to still develop games for Nintendo's portable systems.
And it was because of the high sales of those DKC GBA ports that inspired Nintendo to give us “Donkey Kong Country Returns” which in RETURN brought DK back to prominence as an important IP for Nintendo (with the amusement park area and all that). Can you imagine an alternate timeline where that loophole WASN’T there? NONE of this would be happening.
Because it made Microsoft money lol. It was also because Microsoft didn’t have a handheld handheld system.
That too.
@@chrisbeach423 Yeah there was no loophole. The only real portable system at the time was the GBA so of course Microsoft would want to put some of their games on there
Not a loop hole, they just didn't see the GBA as competition.
8:10 god I love the Golden Sun games... I hope that Nintendo gives this series some love, similar to how they rebooted Advance Wars.
GBA is such a childhood classic for me and the SP is still a love of mine to this day
Agreed. When sp came out I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I felt like I had some high tech device from star trek or something.
it holds a special place in my heart as well! when i picked it up recently i was surprised how tiny the SP is! As a child it fit better in my hands haha
The Christmas that I got my GBA and Golden Sun was amazing. Then a year or two later I got my SP with golden sun 2 and I was just as happy
Something I don't see a lot of people mention is that some GBA games support rumble through the Gamboy Player.
Such as: Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, Super Mario Advance 4 and Pokémon Pinball.
Those game rumble features work on a ezflash omega flash cart played on your gba.
I like to murder my gba batteries by playing a lot of drill dozer.
@@PLATESWEEPER lol, probably wanna play that on an SP then.
@@PLATESWEEPER - Yes, that's how I found out in the first place 👌
Well, you successfully explained the Gameboy Advance in a way that makes me feel old as hell
same.
"Pokémon Yellow" on the plain ol' Game Boy had a speech sample in its opening, so don't say it wasn't possible before the GBA.
So you've never talked to your Pikachu during gameplay?
Also pauline scream help in donkey kong for GB
I love how GBA is getting a returning spotlight on them, seeing how there's many indie game coming to GBA platform and also many GBA tech reappear among Nintendo community.
It's lovely
Oh man, Wario Land 4 was such a banger
"Oh the dream that I had last night melted into my pillow. I made peace with the time I forgot. All I gather turns into sand..."
:'(
"But um... look, guys, look... It's one of my greatest achievement! Wario Land 4 on the Gameboy Advance!"
Best Wario voice clips ever
Always so happy to see the love for Golden Sun. ❤️☀️
The picture in Cranky's Cabin in DKC 3 actually depicts all characters from Sabrewulf, not from Grabbed by the Ghoulies as stated in the video.
Golden Sun is one of those games I wished I loved more than I currently do.
People love it and want more, I’m envious of that excitement.
Me too. The Djinn system and Motoi Sakuraba's score were incredible, but Dark Dawn proved you need a lot more than those two things to make another classic.
I got to the very end like 6 years ago, was missing one djinn or whatever an got mad an didnt complete it, it was an okay game. Idk where it gets all this hype from though
@@chrisbeach423 Most of us got to the end well over 10 years ago now. Had a different perspective when we were kids, probably why I still think the first two games are masterpieces to this day
@@thekiss2083 Yeah I thought Dark Dawn lacked that something the first 2 games had too.
Its too long and Random encounters are outdated af nowadays it gets really annoying especially during puzzle-heavy dungeons.
The whole "Weyard's landmasses took inspiration from the real world" and "Gondowan is like a reference to... Gondawanaland" ends up taking a whole new meaning when you remember that a big plot point is that the land has been shifting away from each other. That could imply that Weyard is actually Earth from a very distant past, before the world split to how it is now. Heck, even in the Lost Age, they make reference to the end of the map and how "If you go over, you fall forever", much what people believed before it was discovered the Earth was round.
In other words, everything is a Golden Sun reference.
The Jojo's fanbase be like: Oh no you didn't!
I actually love the Fusion and kind of prefer it to her more "traditional" power suit. Dread wound up mixing the best elements of both.
So what your saying is, Dread was a good "Fusion" of the two
The dread suit is so sick, hands down the best suit
They change Mario and link's designs regularly now. Even if it's just adding the Fludd or Cappy's occasional eyes or something it gives the adventure some uniqueness. Also with breath of the wild and odyssey you can change costumes so ... Nintendo has definitely opened up to costume changes since then
Definitely, the traditional power suit was just a skinnier, more yellow Varia suit. I always wondered why out of all the colors they originally went with yellow, orange, and purple
Well, it is Metroid 5 so it would make sense that the Dread suit is a mix of Fusion and Power.
Thank you so much for talking about Golden Sun again, as brief as it was, i'll take anything i can get.
Golden Sun is still one of my favorite games. I'm glad Smash Bros gave it just a touch of love
Isaac shoulda been in smash
The Fusion Blue Suit is still my favorite of all of Samus’ suits to this day.
Same.
1:59 The picture on the wall is actually the cast of Sabre Wulf GBA, which at the time of DKC GBA's release, hadn't come out yet.
Save the best Pokemon trivia for the last segment. Talk about one small fact..... okay.
Golden Sun was an absolute gem.
Super Mario Advanced 4: Super Mario Bros 3 is my favorite. It contains updates and new levels that required the use of the ereader attachment. It is (as of this time) still available on the WiiU virtual console with all levels unlocked (including levels that were region specific).
The soundtrack from Warioland 4 is amazing, I'm glad now I know the origin of the lyrics
Its one of my favourite soundtracks. Someone in RUclips kinda remastered it some years ago... I recommend it!
Oh man, the Golden Sun games, both games I've played so much I lost count. I managed to find glitches, exploits, way to level up faster, how to get the best equipment, every single djinn and so much more. They're my favorite games on the GBA
I love Golden Sun! Well, the first two anyways. Nintendo should release a remastered version on Switch.
It's really sad that the last moment in the series is the silent protagonist saying "Fuck" as an issue the plot forgot about just started happening again.
GBA was really impressive. I remember seeing Tony Hawk 2 on it and being blown away. 🤣
The GBA Tony Hawk games (well except for maybe downhill jam) were phenomenal! Its amazing how they captured the feel of the console versions so well.
Oh I remember Dokapon!
I spent hours trying to take out the police chief looking monster in the depths trying to recruit him.
Usually he beats me down like nothing. Although granted I was like level 2 or three at the time, lol
Man, I really wish the 3DS could play GBA games outside of the Ambassador’s Program and unofficial emulators.
Like they could’ve added GBA to the New 3DS’s Virtual Console like they did with SNES.
I haven't done it myself yet, but apparently its really easy to "hack" a 3ds with an SD card, then you can inject the GBA roms into the VC wrapper of an ambassador game, and it will play. It should play most games perfectly because 3DS uses an ARM chip like the GBA so the games run natively instead of being emulated.
I believe the issue was that they couldn't get the emulation perfect without stripping away the Virtual Console features like the restore point and digital manual, so they had to settle for only making them available as a special giveaway without those features.
I don't know if that's also true with the New 3DS, but it's possible since the GBA was a little more powerful than the SNES, or maybe by that point they wanted to make sure those games remained exclusive to the Ambassadors.
@@YourChannel-r4v
Warning: The PSP emulation really hates any game that features 3d elements. And even faked 3d can be hit or miss, demanding on performance demands.
The 3DS is far more accurate, if you can deal with the lack of save states and a few headaches. (Some games insist on moving a strip of gameplay from the top of the screen to the bottom....)
I like how they snuck 1 lame Pokemon fact in at the end so they could put it in the title
Perfect I'm on a gba binge
Been playing emerald for a while
LOVE the Pokemon clickbait, guys! A really good look! "Yeah, the order changes, but we're not gonna tell you what it is. HEY LOOK, MARIOKART"
I wish Golden Sun would get a conclusion. As of the end of the third title, Dark Dawn, it has far too many loose ends and unresolved story.
The Banjo Pilot part reminds me, there was an issue of Official Nintendo Magazine with a quiz, and one of the questions was "What was the last Rare game on a Nintendo console?" The answer was Viva Pinata: Pocket Paradise. As a kid, I didn't think much of it because Rare's heyday was before my time, but years later I realised it was supposed to trip people up because a lot of people would assume the answer was Star Fox Adventures.
Golden Sun needs a new game already! And playable characters in Smash!
Another big tidbit about emerald is that it's RNG is completely broken. Meaning the seed you start the game out with is the one you'll stick with for the entire game. Seed determines stuff like stats/IVs and if the pokemon is shiny or not. Meaning you could predict a shiny frame and easily encounter shiny pokemon.
8:03 The entire Power Suit is organic. She can absorb it directly into her own body.
I see Golden Sun, I upvote. We need Golden Sun 4!
The GBA SP is one of my favorite Nintendo Handhelds to this day,Donkey Kong Counrty 3 was my childhood on that. I love 3 despite how a lot people aren't a fan of it. DK3 was my first Donkey Kong game I played as a kid.
One of the best libraries of any portable systems
DKC 3 was my first GBA game back in '05
Although I still play it on mobile via emulator just seeing this video warms my heart with nostalgia from back when I still had my Blue Pearl GBA SP
Donkey Kong Coutry 3 for the Gba was my childhood. Love that game. Got a SP with that Game for Christmas 😍
Proud to say this was my first Gaming system; and Mario Pinball was one of the first games I ever played as a child! Glad it made it onto this video! 🥺 it's definitely underrated and along with Pokémon Pinball Ruby/Sapphire (my actual first game ever) helped develop my love of Pinball 💗
A game I liked but never finished on GBA was scourge hive, another one I really liked but thought was a bit short was rebel star tactical commando
Dokapon was lit and I love Golden Sun Love!
Ahhhhhh Golden Sun… I miss you
Holy shit someone actually acknowledged Golden Sun.
2:50 Am I missing something? Looking at that roster, there’s 6 DK characters and 6 Mario characters - that’s an equal amount, not more of the latter.
The Legacy of Goku 2 is such a fantastic dragon ball and game boy advance game. I really highly recommend you check it out and it’s also my favorite game of all time. Buu’s fury is great as well.
Fuck yea man I played this game constantly. Is buu’s fury similar? I can emulate it fosho
3:10
Was? Still is an amazing game lol
One of Nintendo's and Wario's greatest achievements
GBC only sold because of Pokemon
Same goes for GBA, DS, 3DS. We all bought the console to play that one game series.
Saw the Pokemon on the thumbnail. I'm here
As in Dokapon Kingdom? It's a great game!
The GBA, looking back, really felt like a portable SNES, and not just because over 45 remakes/ports of SNES (and even some Genesis and Master System) games were made for the system. Even new/original games and series, like the Mega Man Zero games, drew heavily from previous SNES games, like Mega Man X.
Fuck yeah!
That was what I wanted to.
A bit surprised you didn’t mention that DKC3 GBA had a completely soundtrack from the SNES version.
Thank u for showing love to Golden Sun
Thank you for pronouncing Samus' full name properly! Not many do. Didn't know that Sakamoto made sure the redesign of Samus' suit had purpose.
Loved Boktai! Hated having to go outside so I gamesharked that baby. Absolutely wish a switch port would show up
Rare also brought back in Mickey's Racing Adventure on Game Boy Color. It also has gameplay from RC Pro AM.
I’m liking how the script for these videos are getting a more spice put into them
The Gameboy Advance is such an amazing handheld game. My favorite game to play was Sonic Battle, a really fun sprite fighter. Not a lot of people talk about the game, and I really wish there was a sequel or even just a remake.
Found my old GBA a few weeks ago together with the old games from my childhood (Zelda, Pokemon, Castlevania...). Although I also like a few newer games (PC/PS/XBox), I quickly realized that allthough they have better graphics, they were no comparison to a lot of these old classics.
It´s great to see that there are still a lot of people out there loving these old handhelds!
Man FF Tactics Advance was probably my favorite game on the system. This video makes me feel old though.
I played the absolute hell out of the Klonoa game they made. Can’t remember the name for the life of me, but it was second in playtime only to Pokémon Emerald.
im playing pokemon emerald for the first time right now
Hope you enjoy ;)
1:57 I'm a bit skeptical on this one.
Yeah, it looks much closer to a piece of artwork created for Sabre Wulf GBA
@@GBASPGamer Yeah, I know what you're talking about. It's DEFINITELY that artwork.
Rebelstar: Tactical Command is probably my favourite less-known GBA title. Created by Julian Gollop of Chaos and UFO/X-Com fame, it's essentially X-Com's battlescape missions scaled down for a portable experience. The story is ass but it's good fun.
Still own my original micro from 16 years ago! Plays flawlessly to this day.
Do you know a good battery replacement option that won't damage a micro?
I still play my GBA SP 101. I have a bunch of games for it, and the console is still in mint condition. I also have my GBA SP 001 that was my first handheld ever. I'm so glad I stole it!
Dokupon kingdom is a fantastic game and the gameboy version is so hard to find
The year is 2022,and we STILL don't have Golden Sun 1 and 2 on switch!
Saberwulf’s hat is also seen in Cranky Kong’s home as well.
I don't know if it's technically "obscure" but I quite enjoyed Dungeon Dice Monsters on the GBA when I was a kid
I just beat metroid fusion for the first time a couple days ago!
Nostalgia is it hitting hard with Warioland 4
To me golden sun 1+2 is the best jrpg that was ever created and it was a life-changing moment when I played it for the first time (I was 12years old when a friend showed it to me, shortly before part 2 was released)
DOKOPON KINGDOM AND GOLDEN SUN ARE THE GREATEST GAMES OF ALL TIME CHANGE MY MIND (YOU CANT)
Pokemon emerald and super mario world on gba were the first two games I ever owned
Need that Grabbed by the Ghoulies 2!
Great facts video! Thanks for uploading!
Wario Land 4's ost is so trippy and weird and I love it for that lol
one of the greatest handhelds with one of the greatest libraries
*Jazz Jackrabbit Advance* for the GBA was Jazz's series final game, after *Jazz Jackrabbit 2* didn't make so much sales, and *Jazz Jackrabbit 3* got cancelled.
@2:02 that’s the gba sabrewulf cast not the Ghoulies one
Favorite obscure Gameboy advance game? Boktai, I'm glad you asked
I would love to play Golden Sun 1&2 on the Switch.
That picture on Cranky's wall actually looks like a Conker's Bad Fur Day pic
Whoever is the in the 2nd from bottom right slot, next to Toad, at 2:30 will haunt my nightmares.
It’s hard to have fun gaming but I can still watch gaming videos Covid burnt me out of a lot of games
Metroid Fusion is my favorite game!!
Donkey Kong country 3 was my favorite gba game
03:42 Is it just me or does Helen Binding singing the Wario Land 4 theme sound like the same vocalist on MvC2's character select? The "I wanna take you for a ride" song? Can't find any proof but the timing lines up for Capcom to have used the same sample CD and the singer of the MvC2 song is either currently unknown or not easily found on Google
Another beautiful day when you upload
I'm surprised a video about the Gameboy Advanced didn't bring up the different variants of the system. The Gameboy Advanced SP was split into two different models: AGS 001 and 101. The 001 models were front lit versus the backlit 101 models. The difference is stark and clear: with most people preferring and hunting down the 101 models for their crisper and sharper view. 101's have seen a recent popularity in modding circles, which salvage parts for other gameboy advanced mods. And of course, the backlit beauty known as the Gameboy Micro, Nintendo's most portable system to date. Rocking only a 2 inch screen, this super sharp Gameboy was released to lukewarm sales, as the Nintendo DS was already available at the time: a system that could play GBA games as well as fancy new Nintendo DS games.
For more information Subscribe to Did You Know gaming, and if you like the addendum I wrote please leave a little response. Part of me has always dreamed of doing research and writing for a series like that.
P.S. The GBA is totally my favorite system of all time so like, yeah. Hype to the Gameboy Advanced. More of these videos please!
That was really good!
I feel like a wojack just because golden sun was mentioned
I'm down too bad
I still play golden sun to this day since 2006
wait, there sabre wulf on gba??
I only knew of the existence of the original one on the zx spectrum.
Still waiting for another Golden Sun game or even a remake :(
I never got a Gameboy Advance but I do like the design and the games.
got baited by pokemon in the title, only to sit through 9 minutes and 30 sec of non-pokemon facts. nice.
