    The universal remote functionality is crazy. Imagine being a kid somewhere like a waiting room, where the TV is on some random channel you don’t care about. Being able to “hack” the TV to put it on Cartoon Network would feel like some Spy Kids shit.

    I'm here for the Game Boy trivia in general. It is my favorite game system ever!
    By the way, ever notice that a lot of Game Boy games feel kinda like modern indie games? Consider how Pokemon and Kirby had their humble beginnings here, not as first-party juggernauts, but as these weird quirky games that somehow caught on.

    • @RealRomplayer
      @RealRomplayer 2 года назад +5

      That's how the gaming industry back then was in general. No big development teams with hundreds of people involved, instead just a few people who were basically doing everything, from gameplay and level design up to graphics, sounds etc. Development also didn't take several years, but more like several months. It was a charming time back then, with all its pros and cons.

    • @dwatts64

      Because much of the love people have for the switch is in console quality games on the go. I just don't think Game Boy games (outside of the major ones like Pokemon and a couple others) are a big draw. People would rather have access to those games they couldn't play on the go before I think. Or at the very least I'd bet that's a bit of what Nintendo is thinking.

    I would love to see Son Goku (the main character from Yuyuki) appear as a Smash Bros character, if not for the sake of Sakurai pulling a joke in the reveal that "Goku is coming to Smash" only to reveal that it's this version of him based off the Chinese tale Journey To The West. Though I'm sure you could make a pretty cool move set from him since he fights with a staff.

    • @jonathanprince707
      @jonathanprince707 2 года назад

      I loved Azure Dreams. Still have it too.
      I hated how there was never any real guide for it. Trying to fill the Monster Book was a crap shoot cause some tameons could only be got through Fusion, but there was never any clue what tameons you were supposed to fuse.
      Then certain mechanics don't seem to do anything. Like changing the season in the Tower or the elemental rock-paper-scissor thing they had going did nothing.
      Fire wasn't any noticably weaker to Water than Wind, and neither did it seem to do extra damage to Wind over Water.
      Then all of the monsters were basically the same. Outside of certain unique skills, just pick your favorite and boost its ATK to 255 through Fusion and Seeds and you'll plow through everything.
      Kind of boring honestly.
      Azure Dreams definitely needs a remake.

    Honestly it makes sense, that one about Clair and the Dragons Fang. While it is a "Key" item, (in terms of it being an item needed to progress), its actually not a "non-throwable" item (where it cant be sold or thrown away), its just an Move enhance item that can be equipped to multiple Pokémon, like quick claw, or a berry as well as the item itself can be sold for money.
    If the game were to recognize that you had the "improper" Dragon's fang, then two things would occur; first would most likely be an error message. Since picking up the actual DF triggers an event flag (like a cutscene) in the cave itself, this means that she would have no way of giving you the badge when you bring it to her in the gym, since she is not flagged to do so on that specific character sprite. If no error message, then nothing at all, and players would (theoretically) be stuck until the broke down and did the sequence anyway.
    The second (though less likely) would just be an out of context/missed game dungeon/sequence that would confuse players. If you were to get the badge by triggering the event flag in the Gym, there would be no reason to go to Dragons Den, and (in Crystal at least) your rival might not appear at later stages, since he has a even flag in that dungeon, that might prevent him from appearing in later marked areas. Even if you did still go to DD, to get the Fang, you would end up with TWO copies of the Badge which Im not even sure the game can register properly (though that's conjecture on my part).
    If nothing else, props on the Devs at the time for recognizing the potential for error, which is interesting when you consider how easy it was to get soft/hard locked in those first two generations.

    • @L33PL4Y
      @L33PL4Y 2 года назад

      How can you get hard locked in the first two gens? I never got hard locked.

    • @JadeDragon1016
      @JadeDragon1016 2 года назад +1

      @@L33PL4Y There a modest amount of ways (more from Gen 1 compared to 2 certainly), but many of them revolve around releasing pokemon, getting stuck inside an area where your pokemon are too weak to level up with no way to backtrack to a weaker area, or not being able to earn money to progress through certain check points where items must be purchased, and so on of the like.
      A common one I encountered was actually move locks. In Gen one, Normal moves had no effect on ghost pokemon, but this also included moves like Struggle, and unless struggle hit, you took no recoil damage. This meant that you could (depending on your team comp at the time) get caught in an endless battle loop, where the only way to progress is to reset to a prior save point or star the game over.

    Heh, nice to see that Kirby's Super Star Stacker got a mention here. Maybe someday it'll receive an international release on the NSO Super NES app... hey, it happened with Panel De Pon, so it's possible!
    Also, as a Kirby superfan I've never noticed the differences in how some of those fun illustrations you get upon beating certain difficulties in Kirby's Star Stacker's Round Clear mode between the Japanese and American releases. I guess you always learn something new everyday, and I like learning new stuff about things I like!

    When I was a kid, my favorite GBC games were both WarioLand and Spider-Man, but I could never beat the first encounter with Venom as a kid.
    Now that I think about it, I had a Spider-Man game on nearly every single platform I had as a kid, GBC PS2 PC, just not N64 because the PC game was the same title

    I had Mission Impossible, but didn't have the manual and had no idea how any of the PDA features or Remote worked. I even distinctly remember telling kids at school about it and nobody had a clue what I was talking about.

    Also metroid 2, kind of an unpopular game nowadays, but it spooked the hell out of me.

    Ayo hold the fuck up that Buyee ad is a straight up lie, great service but you have to pay shipping twice, once straight away when ordering and one again (usually a heft chunk) when they have it ready to ship to you
