Yes, even though both him and Giancaro Esposito are great actors, I wish they'd have cast real Latin-Americans. Preferably a Chilean for Gus and a Mexican for Hector. The spanish of both actors was awful.

Hector Salamanca truly was an evil character. I loved the way that Gus Fring too advantage of the evil Don Hector's paralysis right to the end.
That was guses biggest downfall. You should never play with your food.

@@rehanpatel9797 Gus tormenting Hector reminds me of Talia Al Ghul toying with Batman in The Dark Knight Rises. Although the slow knife cuts the deepest, the knife can be too slow (Talia’s monologue giving Gordon time to jam the bomb’s sensor, and Gus’s torment giving Walt the information he needed to convince Hector to blow himself and Gus up)
@@rehanpatel9797 It was one of his few weaknesses, his need for revenge against him. He also did not go with his instincts and hired Walter. Perhaps another failing, chasing perfection.
You guys do realize that for how awesome Hector is, he & Eladio are some of the biggest dumbasses in the show. I never understood their mindset of killing a guy's close friend in front of him, have that guy work for you, give him power & expect him NOT try to take revenge one day. Despite how cold & sinister Gus is, his actions against the cartel just makes total sense. :/

@@gamwpanagia True, but my problem is how they reacted to it. Eladio was shocked/surprised right before he dies, while you can see the turmoil & trauma with Hector. & yeah, yeah, I get that Gus was nuking his family, but still, he should have seen that coming.
I think Hector and Eladio thought Gus would be too scared of them to ever try anything.

@@thahoule7924 Idk I feel like they were indeed the "dogs" of the Salamanca Cartel. Basically the main muscle, so they probably did most of the brutal killings. But its hard to tell if they would've won if civil war happened. I can tell you one thing though, Gus wouldn't have sided with him. Or maybe he would've only to backstab him later.
@@NRV0 gus woulve likel sided with them, only to kill them all later. if he gets the cartel out of the way, and the salamancas to trust him (except hector ofc) he wouldve had easy game. he could kill all the salamancas afterwards, without worrying about retribution, and then hed have the whole market to himself.

@@thahoule7924 Doubt it, Lalo in Better Call Saul is without a doubt suspicious of Gus just of his conversation with hector in the retirement home, rest of them would be the same. IIRC Hector considers South Americans "dirty" and I would bet that influence extends to the family. No Salamanca would trust the chicken man :)

Hector Salamanca's voice was pure evil & menacing.
It sucks that Mark Margolis was basically potato in Breaking Bad. Like he knew what was going on but he couldn't speak or do anything cause this dude is one of the best parts of this show forsure. I loved seeing flashbacks with him in them. Except when he capped Gus's friend ... that was super bogus. But actually the entire Salamanca family is prob my favorite part of BCS. The cast of characters in that family is just so colorful and they're all so different. Such a great show.

Actually, the actor's Spanish in these scenes was not that bad. They make some basic mistakes, but these could have been corrected if the voice coach on the set had insisted. The only problem I have is that Salamanca's Spanish sounds exactly the the Spanish of another American actor playing a Mexican gangster - that of Michael Parks playing Esteban Vihaio in Kill Bill Vol. 2. It seems to be a kind of stereotype they're trying to reproduce.

Mike had a massive advantage over him, and Hector knew it. Tuco's whole future depended on only Mike's testimony and saying the gun was his, without it Tuco would be doomed in prison. That's why Hector gave the 50k so easily and was so respectful, he needed to convince Mike whatever the cost (and no hurting him since it would be suspicious), all for Tuco's future.

For some reason I like the way he speaks Spanish. I don’t speak it, and I understand that for native Mexicans or any Latin person this sounds as embarrassing as me speaking English pretending to be American (I’m European), but from my perspective, from the perspective of a guy who doesn’t speak Spanish - that’s exactly how cartel boss would sound hahahah. Actually in our cinema (Russian films) - sometimes we got guys who speak broken English but they suppose to be somewhat Americans in a movie and it works lol
