Gus' downfall was that he sewed mistrust and paranoia with Walt and Jessie. When we see him recruit Mike, he's upfront and honest with him, and we see him pretty much loyal and even helping him take his revenge. If he told Walt and Jessie about what was going on, how the Cartel wronged him, how he wanted to break away, and how he wanted to take revenge against far worse people than he is. Then I imagine they would have been more understanding of his actions and why their operation is so important.

I know basically everyone in these shows does a great job, but it's still pretty cool that Mando's talent in playing Vaas eventually landed him a gig on amc.
