Don’t go broke trying to look rich. You have to fix the spending problem, bankruptcy won’t solve it, winning the lottery won’t solve it. You must fix the relationship with money
This is what happens when you grow up with nothing and work your way out of poverty to a good salary. Along the way you inflate your lifestyle. Along the way you help your parents and family. Along the way you decide that your kids are going to help you. Along the way you feel entitled to everything you see others with and so you get it. I was on that path for a very short period of time before I realized It was on a road to ruin.
Some of it probably went to cosmetic surgery or something like that. She didn’t fool me with wanting her husband to be the largest part of the problem.
I bought a washer because mine broke and it'll be down to 275.00 balance next week. I was taught you only use your credit card for emergencies. Live within your means comes to mind. I'm glad I don't buy unless I need something and I don't have these money problems.
She actually taught Financial Peace???? Does Ramsey let anyone teach it these days???? Regardless, I think her and her husband both *know* what they need to do, they just don't want to do it, and I doubt a free gift of FP will convince them to just do what they need to do.
One time one of those accredited Ramsey financial advisors called and also couldn’t solve a simple financial issue of his. Surprised they aired that, it’s a bad outlook on the business.
Yea she was calm because she knew what was happening and she’s accepted it. She knows what to do but she wants an east fix hoping to get an easy answer on this show.
The thing that most people forget is to be grateful. Sometimes we forgot how grateful our life is, we keep focusing on things that not necessary in life, impressing people for nothing. I've had a situation when I was left with 80$ in my bank account, I didn't have any debt, I'm living as frugal as I can, eating only cereal in the morning, skipping lunch, and eating a $3 burger for dinner. So, be grateful people, lesson learned.
Let me hazard a guess, the reason she is adamant about not filing bankruptcy is because she used her influence at the bank to obtain those $150k in personal loans and if she defaults, there are going to be some folks, including her, with their behinds in the blender. PS: And Baloney, enough with the "I can't breath, I'm skeered" schtick. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard at this point.
This is the problem with society now. People think they can run up all sorts of debt and when it’s to much, file bankruptcy. Then after a few years they will be right back in the same spot. Like bankruptcy is a “get out of jail free” card. Absolutely ridiculous.
I think it’s because it’s people want to appear cool like a celebrity so go around spending, honestly start talking about keeping your money to a bunch of people and they look at you like you are a loser, it must be what 95% of people do
The thing is, they wouldn't be able to file Chapter 7, which is the one where you're absolved of the debt's, as they'd have to pay the entire fee up front, which would cost thousand's. They also have too much income, and you can never file bankruptcy on any student loan debt. They would have to file Chapter 13, which requires you to have your paycheck(s) garnished, by the court, to pay the monthly bankruptcy costs, the debt, and the court appoint's a Trustee to oversee the disbursement of funds to creditor's. They'd also have to meet the repayment plan required in the bankruptcy code's, which is under federal law, not state. So, if they qualified (I doubt they would), they'd end up with it showing on their credit report for 10 years (it would be hard to find any place that would rent to them, except a slum lord), and they'd be left with a lot less money to live on, along with having to still pay the student loan's. If she actually work's in a bank, as she stated, she should know this. I think this entire call is a bunch of BS.
I hear you there's an insight needed here that I don't think these guys have yet, Ramsey would have broken this situation down on a deep psychological level
I live in El Paso Texas, I make 30,000 and my husband makes 32000 a year, which is pretty good here, we have been paying off our house aggressively, we will be done in 3 months, I’m in my 50’s and he is on his 60’s, we own our cars and no other debts. You don’t have to have a higher education to be smart with your money .
I can’t help but wonder if she can’t make the payments because the interest has built up to the point where it’s multiplied the original debt beyond their ability to pay.
And actually you made me think that maybe a lot of this debt is actually interest, e.g. is it half of it or what? Would be interesting to know how much is interest

She will have a difficult time getting a new job at a different bank if she has a bankruptcy on her background. Financial institutions really frown upon blemishes like that.
Thats not completely true about bankruptcy. Out of a divorce 4 years ago, I filed chapter 7 and got out from under over $600,000 in debt (including house I let her keep) It would have taken me 10+ years easily to pay all that off and i wasnt gonna because she ran up all the damn cards behind my back. Fast forward 4 years... my score is over 700. I bought a new home 25 months after getting discharged. (FHA makes you wait 24 months before you can apply). I have 2 cars paid off and owe less than $20,000.00 on a watercraft and some credit cards. On track to pay it all off in 18 months and start investing for retirement to supplement my police pension. So its not 10 years of living hell. It was about 2 years. Yes, the Chapter 7 is on your credit for 10 years, but its effect wears off in time and if you are good on everything else you can recover from bankruptcy in a few years.
I learned a lot from these videos but the one BIG takeaway is there are SOOOO MANY PEOPLE who make too much money and have NO idea how to use it properly lol...Where are they hiring for these high paying jobs for people who dont know what to do with all that money Id love to sign up...
The other thing is, they could downsize the house, sell the land, etc. AND BOTH OF THEM NEED TO GET SECOND JOBS. Hello. I get the impression that they are very well rooted in a comfort zone and won’t do what’s hard to get out of debt. I’m wondering if they have been so accustomed to pretending like they’re rich due to pride that they are not willing to humble themselves. Either way, I don’t think they’re gonna get out of debt.

What bothers me most is that these are ADULTS making such juvenile mistakes, but again, it's partly due to our buy and spend culture where saving money is not practiced seriously.

He said Camry people at 4:55. Proud owner of a Corolla LE here :)
Don’t go broke trying to look rich. You have to fix the spending problem, bankruptcy won’t solve it, winning the lottery won’t solve it. You must fix the relationship with money
That's why I haven't remarried, I won't allow a person to ruin my life. I'm thriving in every aspect by being single.
This is what “keeping up with the Jones” looks like in real life.
I’m 62k in debt and I feel amazing listening to this
Debtors prison sounds like A REALLY good idea for a woman like this! She is so flippant and so uncaring about her situation.
She cared enough to call in. The husband is a huge problem as well.
@@gonzaga45377 lol it really isn't that hard. Stop spending money.
The first thing I thought about.
@@gonzaga45377 They both are clueless and don't care.
She called in
Sounds like there’s gotta be a shopping or gambling addiction or something, surprised Dr. Baloney didn’t ask about that.
Exactly. Sorry but where else could a half a million gone? She said not nice cars and owes $400k on house.
Yeah I thought it seemed a little fishy when she wouldn't give specifics about where the money went.
Some of it probably went to cosmetic surgery or something like that. She didn’t fool me with wanting her husband to be the largest part of the problem.
When you can’t and won’t explain what and how your not ready.
I make 30k work at fast food and no debt. I feel a lot richer than these folks who makes 200k and in debts
In this fairly unique situation, divorce might indeed be cheaper than counseling 😂
She’s in banking 😮. I need to avoid that bank.
There probably isn’t something new for them to learn, they just need to have the discipline to implement it
Yes, there is STILL something for them to learn and that is FRUGALITY!!!!
Seriously...thought the teachers were like audited some....can't imagine what horrible advice she was giving.
Why would you even teach the class if you're not bought in to the debt-free lifestyle that it's based on? Seems very hypocritical.
One time one of those accredited Ramsey financial advisors called and also couldn’t solve a simple financial issue of his. Surprised they aired that, it’s a bad outlook on the business.
@@markg999 She was probably giving good advice. They just weren't following it themselves.
@@MichaelAnderson-wk1no yeah it’s like going to a weight loss trainer that is over weight and trying to learn to lose weight!! Smh 🤦🏻♂️
She was so cool and calm on it, that’s amazing. Most of us will have cold sweats
Yea she was calm because she knew what was happening and she’s accepted it. She knows what to do but she wants an east fix hoping to get an easy answer on this show.
The fact that she refuses to get into specifics...'what did you buy'...ahhhh just a whole bunch of stuff - lawd - smh - and why did she even call
Should be a one year prison sentence for people that carelessly file for bankruptcy
Let me hazard a guess, the reason she is adamant about not filing bankruptcy is because she used her influence at the bank to obtain those $150k in personal loans and if she defaults, there are going to be some folks, including her, with their behinds in the blender.
PS:
And Baloney, enough with the "I can't breath, I'm skeered" schtick. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard at this point.
Yes. He ruins it.
That is a remarkable observation
Ramsey wants a psychologist on the panel. But they should tell him he is not obligated to speak in every call.
Omg yes I cannot stand when Maloney does that! 😂 he doesn’t know what else to say so that’s his copy and paste response
Agreed! They’re obviously not scared…more nonchalant than anything
I get the feeling that she is responsible for most of this debt.
True and that's probably why he won't say yes . Problem is they are married and now it's both of there problems
That's the feeling I
I got too.
Ding ding ding!
Women make 85% or all the decisions in a household, including financial. The husband checked out cuz she put them in that position.
Don’t get married folks
@@corruptsociety9146 correct I learned that the hard way.
Oh man, calls like this make me want to cry and also make me feel so glad we are down to our mortgage 😢
Keep working on it. It's a GREAT feeling.
The show John Oliver talk about that issue and it a lot more dangerous than people think
This couple is a prime example of why personal bankruptcy should not be allowed. Be responsible for your decisions!
It won’t even happen with them making $200k
They NEED to PAY UP!!!
File for bankruptcy and anything that isn’t an absolute necessity gets seized to settle the debt. That’s what so many people fail to realize
I hate calls like this when Dave isn't around. I'm halfway through this call and they still haven't asked her how much money she makes.
They just said they have a household income of 200k on the call?
@@Charlay_Charlay it took them awhile to get to that is what he’s saying
@@reese85 they literally asked in the first, two minutes and that was probably because of the sheer shock and magnitude of her debt situation...
@@truckercowboyed2638 you’re right! I didn’t catch that myself at 1st
I hear you there's an insight needed here that I don't think these guys have yet, Ramsey would have broken this situation down on a deep psychological level
A BANKER is upside down in debt and CANNOT make minimum payments. Despite having a high income. This is disgusting. 🤮.
Her being in banking means absolutely nothing and $200k isn’t a high salary! It’s just very decent money
@@reese85 it’s poor financial management that’s an excuse.
They need to go and rent a studio apartment and sell everything they can including the house
NO This crazy lady wants too get off easy!
This kind of person is definitely the kind I thought was living the life and I wish I had what they had. Thank God I've come to my senses
I can’t help but wonder if she can’t make the payments because the interest has built up to the point where it’s multiplied the original debt beyond their ability to pay.
And actually you made me think that maybe a lot of this debt is actually interest, e.g. is it half of it or what? Would be interesting to know how much is interest
lol Id love to have enough money in order to get into 500K debt, us blue collar folk cant fathom that kind of money misplacement... 🤣 When I was in debt 10K it felt like I would NEVER pay it off...
THIS LADY IS LAUGHING BECAUSE SHE IS TAKING THE EASY WAY OUT
There's a whole lot more going on than this half million of debt I hope she gets the help she truly needs....
She is not being straight forward.
Wow I’ve been stressed with the 90k of debt we have left, I can’t even imagine 550k 😮
Her nonchalant attitude says that they will be drowning in debt until the day they die. With that massive debt number, she should be horrified and she’s just not.
When in doubt blame the husband. She's in banking of all things.
Yea I smell a good ole divorce card about to be played
They literally loaned themselves a great run and now won’t pay it back. They sound like awful people. She just laughed about the loans. Sounds like gambling debts to me.
it just her husband is the only thing holding them back from being debt free before their 60's. That's why it is so important that before you marry, you clearly lay out financial expectations with your partner, and how you expect to spend and live to stay out of debt!
If it was me I would divorce him after selling everything he isn’t a leader and just bringing her down
@@queen.kristal8395stop it! I’m sure he didn’t run that debt up by himself, so divorcing him solves what exactly? You still would be bad at sending money on your own

I’m probably because it’s her debt mostly
This is CRAZY. How do people end up in these situations?! Where’s the common sense?!
There's something seriously wrong if someone used to TEACH FPU and is half a million dollars in debt. WHAT?!
Talk about living beyond your means. The arrogance necessary to accumulate this much debt is awesome.
At this point she’s basically committing fraud. Should be in jail.
And she is a banker....insanity
YES!
She will have a difficult time getting a new job at a different bank if she has a bankruptcy on her background. Financial institutions really frown upon blemishes like that.
She can go be a truck driver
@@allthingznatural5592 in her 50’s?????
GOOD!
Dang, whenever I watch these clips, sometimes I just cringe at how brutally honest they are 😂😂😂
The other thing is, they could downsize the house, sell the land, etc.
It’s maddening that a couple could be this far into debt then they just want to file bankruptcy and stiff the creditors.
Caller: 'We just woke up one day and we owed $555K....I don't know what happened'
Scratches head and looks around in confusion 😂
“…And then this brick wall just came OUTTA NOWHERE…”
If she files for bankruptcy, she WILL lose her job in banking. PERIOD.
I agree!!
Bankruptcy is NOT going to be much of a help to these people. It’s not going to be the cheap option.
Unfortunately this show highlights just how serious the debt problem in America is and how many lives will be wiped out and destroyed financial if we ever have another serious financial crisis, or inflation gets even more out of control. What bothers me most is that these are ADULTS making such juvenile mistakes, but again, it's partly due to our buy and spend culture where saving money is not practiced seriously.
I don't understand how you can legally even get to this point.
She’s a “Banker” 😂
They won’t be able to get out of that debt. The level of discipline would be massive.
Its amazing to me that these people who call in for help and they dont want to answer questions
I am always shocked when people who deal and work with money or even numbers on a daily basis dig themselves this deep in debt.....I am like how??...you show know better! Disclaimer: Assuming you are good at your job BTW....
I have a friend who was in banking for the better part of a decade and he's the most in-debt person I know... but why is that surprising, Bankers are the ones that sell everyone else the debt so why shouldn't they believe what they're selling?
I'm an accountant and many of my coworkers are deeply in debt as well. There are some who are more debt averse and invest big chunks of their income, but most are adamant about using the sophisticated tools of the financial world to their "advantage".
