1:04 Harstem says "I could end up losing my pool" recognizing that it is vulnerable to attacks from the low ground. 35:50 the building placement of that pool ends up costing him the game due to attacks from the low ground.
For centuries to come, legends would speak of the legendary stalker. A hero who fought against endless swarms, and in one last desperate gamble, gave up his means of escape by backing himself into a corner, to land the critical blow that ended the plague of the Zerg.
I wasn’t expecting “1 base” to literally be one base all the way through thirty-four minutes. And the mechanic about revealed players granting high-ground vision to the opponent is something I have never seen come into play, let alone having it determine a game. Truly a crazy game.
Ahh, at 21:44 the Viper abducts a Stalker, only to be killed by the Stalker a moment later (and the Stalker dies a moment after that). The game is full of such moments, amazing!
I actually couldn't breathe when the defeat screen popped and you threw yourself back in disbelief. Lolol. I haven't laughed this hard In a month. Thank you.
Captain, wouldn't an infestor have been way more useful than a viper? Way easier to catch and kill off multiple units with a fungal, and also no need for a hive
I think you are 100% right on this one. I honestly had never played a scenario quite like this and I guess not enough zerg experience to come up with that on the spot.
This kinda reminds me of those WC3 matches where both players stopped all production and gathering of their opponent so the victor came down to whose army could beat which. Love it, so tense.
I was going mental watching this guy going 20minutes into a one base, without any upgrade/burrow. Burrow is really a must when you pull these swarm hosts nonsense!
I was thinking: can he send the drones trough a Nidus, pick up minerals and come back trough the nidus and drop them on the Hive? You should get Overlord Poop and get, at least, a tumor in each base next time :P Maybe even blocking bases with tumors. Maybe that's it, block every enemy base with tumors and deny vision, OP strategy (except for terrans wich you cannot deny vision other than... winning? )
If you had made that last larva into a Zergling instead of a Drone, I think you would have had the game. Way faster scouting, could have whittled away at his standing buildings and helped draw the Stalkers to a location for the Swarm Hosts to DPS them down. Really sick game, though. Always appreciate the constant content coming through from you.
If he made any amount of lings the game would have ended earlier. I am not sure if he was doing it out of principle for the challenge or he just really wanted to defend DTs with Spine Crawlers.
What a fantastic game, Starcraft is at its best when it comes down to a last few units being micro'd when everything else has gone crazy and its all still to play for. The battle between the Stalker and the one damaged Swarmhost from 30mins to 32mins is some amazing play from both of you. I can already see Lowko preparing his youtube title for yet another game of the year video, that and suggesting that swarm hosts have a High Templar type of attack lol
I recently had a gold league version of this game against a clanmate. Very similar overall strategy. He went with the 1-base swarm host nydus, so I build my 3rd across the map, and a bunch of shenanigans from there.
So many bad decisions in the craziest comeback and throw dance of opponents 😂 the scouting with creep tumours could have covered the whole map in creep and won the game as well which would have been a crazy win condition
"This may be my final video"... true legend lmaooo. Halfway through I had to resist the urge from scrolling down to comments as it became a real nail biter, and just like any good thriller without spoilers the first watch can never be replicated.
Wow. I had a heart attack during this match, but kept watching anyway. Harstem's face at the end... I feel your pain Captain. He was literally stunned with disbelief.
Harstem that was so raw and cool. It was like a gritty drama, bravo. On top of that, I kept wondering how you were going to win. I hope other casters make reaction videos to this or you should send it to them. This really needs to be shared with everyone who likes SC2. Nydus long-distance mining! Also build the new base somewhere where you got the Nydus exit instead of in natural, so you can have your units defend two bases.
That was a lot of grit to keep fighting with whatever tools you had leftover like the Overseer's changelings! I don't think I've ever seen anyone micro individual locusts like that before lol. ayo captain! so the way i think you are supposed to do this build is 13 pool and then 14 gas after overlord, it times out so you can get 1 queen to pop right as you have 100 gas for lair! lets you one inject and then spread creep to the ramp to block it with a spine and a building. i've been doing it on ladder a bunch since i saw it on pigs channel and you can get a bunch of swarmhosts into enemy base several minutes earlier
This kind of game is ONLY possible with regening protoss and zerg units, and then... swam hosts! The ultimate eco unit. I kept trying to figure out how Harstem was making 1-base work for 20+ minutes, and it's that swam host play, for sure.

@Wischmopps right he could have taken opponents main/natural ages ago!
