You're better with the shinobi. Well, maybe. I returned my Shinobi to buy this (because of the HDMI out) but despite this actually being a GREAT monitor....the image quality is considerably better on the Shinobi. If I'm not mistaken I believe this is an 8bit display and the Shinobi is a 10bit display. I'm not sure if this is true but I could EASILY tell the difference and returned this and bought a Ninja V instead.
I have this and the control cable, will Godox ever do a firmware update to "touch to focus" its a fantastic monitor so bright during the day (1200 nits) but could really do with touch to focus !!!!
The startup time seems quick, but if it could boost the signal even faster, it would easily be the best on the market. Most field monitors take around 9 to 12 seconds to get a full signal input, except for Blackmagic.
I think Godox should've went the extra mile and made it weather resistant. I bought it because it has no vents and gonna test it under light rain if I had too. If it gets busted then no worries, or I would just use my Sony Xperia 1v which is also a recorder when raining.
This was a long time coming. I hope this will work with Canon system in the sense that you can still access the Camera LCD. A feat that Canon has either failed to do (though software) or are just being pigheaded about. It it can work with Canon LCD simulteneously, then a lot of people will be singing goodbye song to Atomos Ninja V
Love the remote feature. In remote mode, I see you can adjust focus on the fx30, can you select a autio tracking point and see it moving on the screen. Like it does in Monitor and Control app. I shoot live events, and I need real time info for my camera opps. MC is to iffy.
At the moment i can only get the Start /Stop function to work. I am waiting for godox to get back to me to find out about the tracking and other modes. If i get the info required I will post. thx
Muchas gracias!
I'm sorry, but I feel this is too expensive. Amazon says about 400€. An Atomos Ninja V is about 100€ more and has video functionality, and some cameras get an extremely good extra function when recording externally: Prores RAW.
Great review. That cord doesn't look like it's from Godox; I'm looking for the GMC-U6 USB-C cable to use this monitor with A7III, but they seem to be out of stock everywhere. Do you know of a non-Godox cable that will work?
I have a Sony fx30 also, and my screen shows like the one when you first plug it in, but how did you make it fullscreen? I can't figure it out. Thanks!
Its from the camera menu if I recall, hdmi out screen display or similar in settings. Not got the camera to hand at the moment to check this setting, but its in the cameras HDMi output settings.
it would be nice if these monitor companies would incorporate physical, customizable bezel dials. Menu diving in inefficient...especially with gloves in cold.
i don't think the remote jack is used to control advanced settings like iso, apeture and shutter speed etc. that mini 2.5" remote jack is very commonly used just for shutter release, like those you see on intervalometers.
The VIltrox is a superb monitor. The best budget monitor on the market IMO. The Godox is the better of the two, its clarity and colour reproduction is incredible + its fanless. Is it worth the extra, that is a tough one to answer. Is a £50'000 car worth the extra cost over a £40'000 car? emmmm. Tricky. If you have the money go with the Godox, if you are on a budget, go for the Viltrox. 🙂
Wonder how it stacks up against the Viltrox DC-550 Pro. They seem to be specced similarly but the Viltrox is 60% of the cost (comparing local prices to the link provided for the Godox). EDIT: just found this unit locally, for much less than the link provided. This is going on the list of things I have to go look at in person at the store. Thanks for making me aware of it
@@TheCameraManReviews Just watched it. You have a very calm presenting style. How do you personally feel they compare? Besides the hood is the godox more premium and you don't have camera control on the Viltrox correct? I am in the market for a monitor for the first time. Tired of the tiny little screen. Getting old and I got no time to be squinting at things, haha. Current sales on here in Aus, the godox is AUD$430 and the Viltrox AUD$350. I am also of course looking at the Atomos Ninja which is AUD$900 and has a lot more functionality. I feel I am not quite at the level where I need 6k ProRes Raw, but I do like to future proof. So a lot of ADHD brain cycles wasted on this particular rabbit hole atm.
@@undefwun2135 I have all 3 of them monitors and this is how I would sum them up. The Viltrox is the best budget option. Superb features and menu. Its easiest to use. It's buttons and build quality feel great. I would have no hesitation recommending it. The Atomos Ninja is also a recorder, so slightly in a different category to the other 2. The menu on the ninja is awful IMO> will take time to get used to, and if you go for the ninja, i would recommend the H265 codec which is an additional $99. Both the Viltrox and Atomos have very similar display qualities IMO, but you do get the recorder built in to the Ninja. The Godox, Image quality is better than both Viltrox & Atomos. It is unbelievably clear and the color reproduction is incredible. Menu is simple to use, but I prefer the buttons on the Viltrox, as they are slightly raised and easier to press. It is also the only monitor that is fanless out of the 3, which is great if you record audio at the same time. (No FAN NOISE ! ) The Ninjas fan can cause lot of noise if you are recording at the same time. IF we was to remove the built in recorder from the Atomos this is the order i would choose these monitors: 3rd place: Atomos (menu is a terrible) 2nd Place: Viltrox (superb value for money, only monitor out of the 3 that comes with a battery supplied! ) 1st place: Godox. (best image quality) Hope this helps and let me know what you choose!
@@TheCameraManReviews Appreciate the time taken to answer. Exactly what I wanted to know. Perfect answer. Subscribed. 👍 Might be worth doing a video on it, maybe even a short? I am sure I am not the only one out there wondering this stuff. Not really worried about the fan noise tbh, but excellent point to bring up. If I am doing talking heads, it will be miced up or on a boom. And for events/parties and music vids, won't matter anyway I guess. Also not worried about the battery, I will be running it on power from a vmount. Just picked up 2 SmallRig VB99 Pros. Leaning towards the Godox for now. Take that $450 I saved compared to the Atomos and use it for a new Gimbal. I got lit at a bday party and forgot to unlock an arm and blew the motor on my older Crane Lab, lol. Sorry last question, regarding the Atomos, is that the 'new' one with the new OS version?
Not sure about the interface but I think, it's clunkier than the Atomos Shinobi. :P But in fairness, the Godox interface looks better than the Portkeys LH7P with the same controls function.
It's not about "clarity and sharpness", it's about is it precise in terms of colors and DR? If you can't see shadows/highlights and colors exactly as the camera records it, you will be all over the place with your settings which means more work in post, and with non RAW codecs it will never be as good as nailing your wb and exposure during the shoot.
Interesting- the camera control feature especially - can you change the FX30 focus tracking point by touching the spot on the Godox (that is the one feature I occasionally would like when using an external monitor...)?
At the moment I can only seem to get the Record to Start/Stop but I am in contact with Godox to see why the other functions are not working with the FX30. Hopefully they get back to me. I will update you if they do.

I took a shot everytime you said monitor in this video and now im at the ER
Thank you, do you know if this works ok with Olympus OM-1 mirrorless camera.
Yeah, I believe the OM-1 has a micro hmdi port, so it will be perfect!
nice video - all the waveforms are not overlay? they make your image smaller?

What happens when you film in 4k 60fps? Does the monitor screen go black, or does it continue monitoring but in a lower fps?

For that price, it should also have internal recording. There's monitors for $150 that do basically the same thing as this.
