I purchased the plans and built it this past weekend. Instead of the cut off box I built two drawers on full extension slides. I wasn't comfortable relying solely on the pocket screws to hold the weight of the saw so I also used 3 dowels on each side to lend extra support. I need to finish up the drawer fronts this week to wrap it up. I had to make mine about 5 inches wider to accommodate my 12" compound slider. I like it and now have two more drawers to fill up with tools!
Started yesterday with some left over 3/4 red oak plywood. Only thing that stopped us from finishing yesterday was we needed the back piece. So with a couple of minor alterations to your plans we got it complete today and 100% fully functional. We have a 12" Dewalt miter saw, so its heavy. We added 2x4 supports along the edges of the saw tray. Still not sure how but one fold out tray no mater what I did, it swings out about 3/16s low at the meeting point once we started setting up plum. Still have a few extras we plan on putting on it but was using it this after noon. Thanks for the easy to understand plans.
Built my stand with your plans. Workedwell. Got a little mixed up on how to attach the wings to the stand but figured it out by watching your video, 3:43 (a couple of times). Thanks again.
I just bought my very first miter saw yesterday. Yes it's a sliding miter saw with 10" Saw blade. I feel really blessed after watching your video, since I already make my own miter saw station drawing and doesn't even notice about the sliding and the miter angle problem. Now my homework is to Remeasuring, redrawing just to make sure there is no problem will be happening tomorrow on the build process. Thank you so much.
April, Been looking to build a mitre stand and get rid of the metal pipe stand. Your design is the one I'm going with. At 73 I'm still learning. I really enjoy your channel.
This looks incredible. I stumbled upon this video while looking for a mobile display cart for market displays. I’m not good at building things but I have a few uncles and cousins who are. I’m going to show this to them and see how much they’ll charge me to build it for me. Thanks for sharing.
Nice stand! I like it! I did notice some racking as you moved it around. As an old cabinet maker I can say, if you put a 1/4” piece of plywood on the back it would make the carcass much stronger without too much weight. Looking forward to watching more of your videos!
Been watching for years. Since the tiny space to this large shop. So happy to see you have stayed true to who you are. Always excellent instructions / voice-over's to what you are doing. Hard work paying off.
First let me say that you have great videos and plans. You do a fantastic job of showing your design/build process along with fails and successes. I decided to tackle the miter saw stand project. I made a big Newbie mistake and assumed that miter saw widths and depths were kind of standard. I bought the plans, followed them and the video, and built the stand. I even adjusted the top shelf height from 3 1/2" to 3 3/4" to match my deck height. I unboxed my new Bosch 12" saw and went to install it on the cart … only to find out that it's footprint is way larger than the opening on top of the stand. Had there been more references given to the saw measurements than just the deck height adjustment, I might not had to buy two more sheets of plywood and rebuild. Please keep up the videos, plans, and projects!
Wow. Building mine for a DeWalt 12" mitre saw. Just bought the plywood today for $135 from Home Depot. Your reply was helpful as I will measure the larger saw and make sure to match my materials to fit the saw.
April. Thank you so much for all you do for us “wannabe wood workers.” I have used several of your plans, watched tons of your videos, and improved my shop and my skills at the same time. You are the best. Thanks!
Aloha April or anyone. Working this project. Downloaded your plans. Question. What is the large angle cut for the two wing support pieces? 45 degrees? Big thanks.
April I'm going to shamelessly repeat what I've said to other woodworkers on RUclips. As someone who just bought their first house and am finally learning how to be handy, I need more videos where useful things like this saw stand are created without use of all kinds of tools I don't have. I want to make this stand because I need to buy a miter saw and have a place for it to live and be useful, but I don't have a table clamp and a hole making jig thingy or most of a left hand. I would love to see more, "here's how much you can do with just a circular saw and a drill" videos!
I didn't always have the tools I now own but I made things with what I had at the time, being resourceful. Most projects can be made with basic tools but I enjoy showing my Viewers what I did and what I used while doing it.
@@AprilWilkerson Yeah for sure. It wouldn't be as fun to do the projects without the tools. I sure know that from software engineering. It would be a fun challenge for some to show some cool stuff with just a few basic tools.
@@Mackinstyle Meaning no disrespect to April I'd recommend searching for smaller youtubers because they are often working with cheaper tools and small shops etc although Steve ramsey is a big youtuber who uses cheaper tools. I'd also add that if your just starting out, try not to run before you can walk. April makes this look easy! but that's because she has gained lots of knowledge and experience over time. The expensive tools just help speed up the process.
I agree. But I'm curious with a shop as massive as yours why you (April) feel you still need a portable, wing-based mitre stand? The beauty of such a shop is that you can have a dedicated mitre saw station complete with adjustable stop blocks and built in tape measure not prone to wandering. A Master Carpenter friend of mine has just such a station. Now that I have the blessing of being able to afford a custom shop build I planned on having a dedicated, stationary mitre station. Pray, tell your logic for the mobility factor. If the reason is just to create content for the small/temporary shop folks that’s cool too, but it seems like a “real shop” necessitates permanent workstations and deliberate world flow without setup and tear down. That was the bane of my existence in my previous two car garage “shop.” Which never saw a parked car in the past 15 years.
April. Me and my dad built one of these for my shop form your plans. It is one of the most used tools in my shop. We even added some 1x2 to the wings for a longer fence. Thanks for sharing. It is also the first thing me and my dad built together since I was a kid. I wanted to add a photo but I can't seem to figure out how. Thanks again.
If I saw correctly, looks like you beat me to me suggesting putting a back panel on the back to keep the unit from racking laterally. The first stand racked quite a bit as you were moving it. Adding a back panel would sure fix that. Excellent project April! Thanks!
I have held onto this video for some time, have just bought the plans and will be building very soon. Thanks April, I think this will be just the ticket for our needs.
just completed the first one you did and by far my favorite. I moved the scrap bin to the middle shelf and was able to use the bottom for more storage that is always in great demand. Thanks for the update. My next project is going to be your assembly table/work bench.
I bought the plans for this stand a while back and they were easy to follow. The stand turned out perfect and I use it all of the time.Really convenient being able to roll it around the shop, and I've added casters to most of my other saws and stands because it works so well.
Nice work! It looks like a take on the Woodsmith Shop plans, but with a wider wings. I kinda like the wider wings on yours. The great thing about these is you can go to town with features such as rails, clamps, stops, etc., or keep it simple. I saw one recently where the person who built it actually built wings that doubled as storage boxes. It's really only limited by one's creativity, and you definitely have that in spades. I've been designing one that uses stock unfinished red oak kitchen cabinet boxes. Thanks for sharing and inspiring us all.
April - The miter stand is compact, convenient, easy to move around, however, I think your shop deserves something bigger - the Jay Bates miter saw station. Maybe next time !!!
Great stand! I built mine based off your original design years ago and I use it all the time. I put three drawers in the center and use it for small tool and fastener storage.
I built mine last week. I failed to measure the width of my Sliding Miter Saw, so I ended up making some mods to avoid cutting new shelves for the whole thing. Still haven't made the drawer for the bottom cause I might use that space another way. Thanks for all of your great videos. You make it look so easy.
On the casters, I would through bolt with maybe a fender washer and/or plywood backer. I built an almost identical miter stand and had the screws pull out on one of the casters. Fender washers to the rescue. thanks for the video.
Not only is this a good design but you also do a very good job of explaining the process. For example, when you emphasized making sure you verify you're attaching the piano hinge on the same side of each wing, I thought you were talking directly to me 😂
Nice build April. I built one of these and didnt like the casters myself. Then went all out on a stand alone miter station. I guess it's all about what works for you, in each individual's shop. I alwase enjoy your videos. Keep em coming. Thanks.
Hi April! I am a believer in keeping things portable as my shop is in a small basement. I was watching Dave Stanton's live feed and he informed us you hit a million subscribers. Congrats!!
Loved to original design, this is nice improvement. Thanks April (one of my RUclips heros). i notice bottom holds the sides via screws only, no plywood support, IF it loosens over time, maybe a cleat would help, all in all, a very clean design.
Hello, you are very creative and intelligent, I congratulate you. You made a piece of furniture very well adapted to the miter saw, it made your work easier!
I worked with a pro fessional cabinet/Furniture maker & he had a slide mitersaw, with a stand like your, with a blade shelf, but no place to store scrap cut offs. I like yours better, again great detail.

I like it! Wish I’d seen yours before I built mine, but I searched mobile mitre saw tables and got you. I was looking for a good way to add wings to mine and I love your way of doing it!
I came here from the channel fix this build that, and I am glad I did. I have yet to start any projects but watching this video and soon more of your videos have me inspired to build stuff and one day making my own projects.
I like to be able to take my saw to my work outside too. So I baught a Rigid universal stand for my Ridgid sliding compound miter saw. It has 12inch wheels for ruff uneven ground. But your miter stand is a good solution for a shop use stand April. Great video too.
I made mine this weekend, with a few steps to tidy up. On my one, the stop for the supporting arm makes the top bit stick out to the side because I used a fairly wide offcut. I'm planning to cut out a gap in the supporting arm so that the top sits flush with the supporting arm when it's down.
Keep it up keep the videos going!!! This I am going to build for my saw. It is Perfect for my small shop. It has the smallest footprint for a miter saw yet Very supportive of long work pieces. Thank you
Great job as always. After wrestling with a store bought miter saw stand I am going back to a portable stand for my sliding miter saw again. Thanks again April.
April, I love your rolling sliding mitre saw stand. I’ve seen other RUclipsrs make them, but yours makes the most sense and is very practical. I’m making it

I've been thinking about a similar plan for a while now. This video helped clear up some of plan ideas. I was thinking of putting a back on for additional side to side structural support and because I have a very small shop space I was actually thinking of putting the miter saw on a plywood tray that can be pulled out and possibly swapped with a small table saw (also on a tray) just at a lower level so the work surfaces are the same height. then adding a flip up back support for use as an out feed table. This gives me lots of ideas. Thanks for the video!
i enjoyed your project very much, you made it seem reasonable made me want to try to build something ! liked how you dressed and presented your self. Keep up the good work!
Nice project and well done. Added this to the list of shop projects. Currently, my saw is stored on a shelf and is put on foldable scaffolding when needed. A royal pain if I might say.
Nice basic design. Built a copy, have pocket screw capability, I am old school (40 years) cut dado,s and added back rails with t-rail for cut off blocks
Nice build. You need to get yourself some VIX bits. They are designed for drilling hinges so your hole is in the center. 👍 They come in different sizes.
wider wheel base adds to stability as i’ve seen in other designs . i like the wings being held up in your design. locking hinges just don’t make the grade . slope down
I am planning my miters stand. Initially I bought a 30" sink base as a starter. What are the demotions of your cabinet? Nice job. So much classier than another video I tried to watch. I was not exactly what she was trying to offer. I thought it might of been her.
Nice build. Went searching for an idea hoping to find one like yours as I will be commencing a little remodel project, with long trim boards, so wanted a portable stand for a soon-to-be-delivered new miter saw (everything in my shop is also on wheels, even my scrap bins), but I'll be temporarily locating this in a bedroom, so also needed to be light enough to carry up a couple flights of stairs.
I purchased the plans and built it this past weekend. Instead of the cut off box I built two drawers on full extension slides. I wasn't comfortable relying solely on the pocket screws to hold the weight of the saw so I also used 3 dowels on each side to lend extra support. I could see this easily built stand being the most popular build especially among us that have limited space. Excellent!

This I am going to build for my saw.
It is Perfect for my small shop.
It has the smallest footprint for a miter saw yet Very supportive of long work pieces.
Thank you
Thanks! I'm glad you found it useful. Thanks for watching.
Excellent! I'm going to build this tomorrow -to also house my shopvac!
Great job as always. After wrestling with a store bought miter saw stand I am going back to a portable stand for my sliding miter saw again. Thanks again April.
April you are the best to find out what to do on my projects.
Thank You for your help.
Thanks for a great build. What I like is that it is simple, straightforward, and with very simple tools. I do need to build this.
Great looking stand April, very nicely done.
April, I love your rolling sliding mitre saw stand. I’ve seen other RUclipsrs make them, but yours makes the most sense and is very practical. I’m making it
Don Whitehead did you make it?
On my design and build I put a back stop with a tape measure on both sides and installed 2 t-tracks where I made stops for repeat cuts. my design is basically all the ones I saw built on You-tube. I wish I made a video of the build. BTW love the size of your shop.
amazing. Literally yesterday I searched your videos for find your original video on your miter saw stand, only to be bummed out it wasn't a build video.
Great and simple stand April. This is, as you said, a one-day build and will be a great addition to my garage shop. Thanks for all your great videos.
Glad you like it!
Im from Brazil 🇧🇷! Perfect job!
You are truly a amazing lady with awesome talents
Awesome, compact build. I can definitely understand why it gets so much use. I was happy to see that you put a back in the bin slot. I imagine that’s pretty critical to keeping the cabinet stable. Nice work!
Nice work April! You've just inspired me to make one myself!
Awesome! Enjoy the build. Thanks for watching.
I wish I’d seen this before spending $450 on a portacube which is very subpar. I’m going to build this to replace it today! Thank you!
i enjoyed your project very much, you made it seem reasonable made me want to try to build something ! liked how you dressed and presented your self. Keep up the good work!
Great space saving idea with the wings! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I really like this. It’s good for a small shop.
great job!!!! although with a shop that size a built in place mitre station along one wall would be an awesome addition to an already awesome shop.
I am so going to build this tomorrow!! Very excited!!
Awesome! Enjoy the build. Thanks for watching.
Excellent Build, Thank you for the idea
I was jealous enough of your shop space before the clear/tall wall thumbnail picture. Great dream shop inspiration in your vids.
Nice project and well done. Added this to the list of shop projects. Currently, my saw is stored on a shelf and is put on foldable scaffolding when needed. A royal pain if I might say.
Good job and congratulations for your amazing shop,
Nice basic design. Built a copy, have pocket screw capability, I am old school (40 years) cut dado,s and added back rails with t-rail for cut off blocks
Nice build. You need to get yourself some VIX bits. They are designed for drilling hinges so your hole is in the center. 👍
They come in different sizes.
Great work! Thanks for taking the time to make, film, edit and share
1:49 Thank you for including oopsies like this - it makes me feel better knowing that mistakes happen to even the best of the best.
This is a great idea, we are getting a new place so I will have a nice shop. A mobile miter saw table would work great in the shop.
I love your channel so much and as a beginner female woodworker you are such an inspiration and make me so happy, so thank you.
Nice and fast construction, well done!
This is a great version of this stand!
wider wheel base adds to stability as i’ve seen in other designs . i like the wings being held up in your design. locking hinges just don’t make the grade . slope down
I am planning my miters stand. Initially I bought a 30" sink base as a starter. What are the demotions of your cabinet? Nice job. So much classier than another video I tried to watch. I was not exactly what she was trying to offer. I thought it might of been her.
Thanks for
ur interesting n informative DIY video. Interested in constructing my own mitre saw stand n work bench. Looking forward to ur next video.
Very nice project, I’m gonna give it a shot.
great video! Having the right tools make all the difference in the world!
Thanks for your brilliant video, I will get this built when I can find some time, but as I said, it's brilliant! ❤❤❤
Glad you like it! Thanks for watching.
Nice band saw and very well made stand.
Thank you very much!
I like the way you make it so clear exactly what you are doing, and why. After seeing one of your build videos, I feel ready to do it myself.
I love all of your builds . I only hope to have a nice workshop like yours when I'm done building mine.
Super cool build. Going to try and make one for myself. Thank you.
Looks great and very professional thank you
This is awsome the way she made that
Awesome. I need to try to build one for my mitre saw. Thanks, April.
I have the same saw and I’m so glad I watched this first didn’t account for the swivel of the saw in my planning.
