As someone who has been going there for 30+ years, Canaan is worth it mid-late season when they have enough of the mountain open. They are owned by the state of WV so early season they tend to lag way behind on snow making since they don't want to spend any money. This year for example, Timberline was fully open except for the drop, and Canaan had 7 trails open despite having snow on almost everything. They have an entire side of the mountain that only opens with enough natural snowfall, where Dark Side of the Moon is, and that can be some of the best terrain in the Mid Atlantic when it is actually open. Canaan is also pretty good for an early season half day warm up since their lift tickets for a half day are like $50 and Timberline is $100 regardless of how long you ski.
They just got a ton of snow here recently so this must be an older video, maybe from last season. I was up there 2 weeks ago and the whole mountain was covered, but sadly all they had open was Valley Vista down to Face. At least now they have 17 trails up and running, but if you want a full mountain of open terrain, as long as you don't mind the crowd and higher prices, Timberline is probably your best bet unless Canaan has most of their terrain open. Rumor has it the state is going to finally give them some money to upgrade the snow making capacity and possibly put in another lift, so fingers crossed. It sucks watching it languish while Timberline thrives next door with the same snowfall.

I agree with you! I think an 80/100 is a HIGH score for the size of this mountain. The footage was from last year, but I’m planning to revisit Canaan & Timberline soon! It’s great to hear they’ve got a lot of snow recently 😁
The day I visited Canaan Valley it was random because we were supposed to ride at Wisp that day, but Wisp couldn’t open because they didn’t have any snow ❄️, so I was pleasantly surprised to drive South and find almost the entirety of Canaan Valley open. I hope they follow through and add another lift with & more snow making ability!!

@@AdventureLife365 You lucked out that day, lol. Wisp isn't bad, just very pricey and very short runs compared to the skiing in WV where you get some nice long runs at both Canaan and Timberline. I was at Wisp 2 weeks ago and was kind of alarmed to see they are now charging $115 for lift tickets and they barely had anything open. Food prices and everything else there was also much more expensive than even Timberline. It was like $12 for a basic cheeseburger, lol.

@@TeKnoVKNG23 ya I know. The best thing Wisp has going for it is there’s a lot of places to stay on the mountain. But those prices are crazy for what it offers

Do you like Timberline better for advanced skiers?

That’s a hard question.. I recently put up a video reviewing Timberline as well, so that might help you determine it.
I like both places but they are different at the same time. Timberline has two double black diamond trails, but a limited total number of black diamond runs. While Canaan has 21 black trails, but no double black diamonds.
