  • DO CARB SPACERS REALLY WORK? DO THEY ADD POWER? DO THEY LOSE POWER? DO THEY ADD MORE POWER ON A BBC? DO THEY ADD MORE POWER ON A SINGLE OR DUAL PLANE INTAKE? IS THERE A TRADE OFF? LET'S TALK TECH.

I had a cadi 500 bored to 516 with a mts cam and custom made intake.. on engine dyno it was 800 foot pounds and 750 hoarse. Was in a prostreet chopped top 57 chevy. I lost it in a divorce 27 years ago.... (still not over it)

@richardholdener1727 what ever the higher compression pre emissions one was withe oversized valves it was 14 to 1 compression

Ran it with the 400 trans it came with just put in dual trans coolers and a nine inch with a 350 gear. Cadi only spin to 5000 rpms said to ok at 5200. But I was always scared of hurting it. Even the 32 inch wide street/stripes it would be chirping and screaming every time you barely touched the gas. And I never really got break proportion right so always kinda scared of really getting into it

What about sheer plates on a Eddy old school cross ram intake for BBC intake? Because of the drop and sharp turns I’m curious if this would help distribution and power. Hopefully gonna dyno my 468 with ported 063 Oval port heads and cross ram with 9.4 compression and 230XE flat tapped cam.

Enjoy how you go about it Richard.
Interested how the air gap performed on your engine masters 410... ?
Frustrating that there is literally no duel plane available for the popular 400+ cube windsor platform that will go past 5900rpm. Here in oz the clevo guys smack our arses!

Well. I'm a little surprised. I just always thought of a spacer as increasing the runner... i don't know i guess i just always thought it be more gain on the torque side instead of the hoarse power side but it's intresting either way

We have some experience drag racing with dual plane intakes on big blocks in stock eliminator or street/strip applications in heavier cars (Camaros/Chevelles/Impalas) and a spacer and plenum cut almost always helps the top end without sacrificing too much on the low end. The RPM Air Gap is the best intake for most applications like that. I am currently building a Gen VI rec port 509 for my late Dad's Monte Carlo (the one I told you about at MPMC with my LS style CNP ignition plans). I have some single planes but I also found a cool 80's Edelbrock C454 4500 dual plane intake at the swap meet that I want to test and have heard good things about from old time drag racers. I cut the plenum divider a little deeper to mimic the current RPM Air Gap, and in that crazy clearance sale last year also picked up a cool billet 1.5" Holley tapered 4 hole into open spacer that I'd like to test on the dyno. Spacers also usually seem to help street driveability.

open spacers on dual planes do what was described in the video-better on top-less on bottom
