No you DID NOT win anything and NO that’s not me in the comments telling you to contact me via Telegram. SCAMMER ALERT!!!
I just received one such contact, and that wasn't the first one by far. New there's something fishy from the beginning. Scammers on the rise...
You're just jealous because you didn't win anything.
The camera conspiracies references 🙏 homage to a true king
The king who cannot decide whether to love Panny or hate it, but still finds a way to love it when he gets his hands on it LOL
I just can't watch the cc guy I find him very unpleasant but Omar is great
Ok, he’s a true King. Didn’t know that. He’s funny, has a shit eating grin on his face 24/7 and rages against people anonymously in the comment section, but if that’s your definition of a true King 🤴 then so be it.
@@SMGJohn hahaha lol
He's the best.
I think he's tired of panny becs he's first interchangeable lens camera was a panny camera (and also the fact that panny's slow improvement on af).
@@mgman6000 agree with you . I watched him a couple times and all he talked about was AF .
I'm confused- you can absolutely edit raw files from the R5 to look however you want, with as much ease as other cameras...and the dynamic range of the R5 is top tier.
"Camera Conspiracies" cuts made me laugh more than they really should have.
I don’t know what was wrong with your R5, but for me the color from R5 is just gorgeous. I own A1 too, both give such Rich colors
Different people like different things.
And older people have different perspective
Depends what software you use. Adobe LR has terrible raw converters for the new Canon systems. That is an Adobe problem. If you use Capture One, or better yet, Canon raw software, you will get the best colours.
@@77dris I have heard that initially Adobe Lightroom did not handle R5 colors well, but didn't they then release camera specific profiles for the R5? Are you referring to these, or Adobe prior to this release?
@@77dris to think, he bailed on the R5 too soon. If he would of just used Capture one. That sucks.
lmao that intro "Camera Conspiracies" 😁
This is dead on for me - 100% agree. When switched from the 5D MK II to the EOS R, I immediately noticed something was missing from the enjoyment I had using the former camera. I had gotten so many killer shots with the 5D MK II and it seemed like, even with that incredible RF glass, I just couldn't do it with the EOS R, even tho I was nailing focus a lot more. Then I upgraded to the R5 and the disconnect grew even stronger. I initially noticed that the color from the R5 was too magenta and the white balance was not as good as the R or 5D MK II. Potato Jet talked about the magenta leaning color in one of his early R5 reviews. But the autofocus and video were so amazing on the R5, and RF lenses are so damn sharp (you don't even need sharpening anymore in post), that I've just tolerated it. Vanessa Joy mentioned that the R3 has much better white balance than the R5, but I don't think that camera is for me.
Mmm... shoot raw maybe?
You sound like you have a problem with the mirrorless designs, coming from the DSLR era. I also switched from DSLRs to mirrorless. My last DSLR cameras were 5DIV and 1DXmk2. I think your opinion is very subjective (no offence)because I actually enjoyed photography a lot more with the R5 and R3. I could care less about white balance nano-discrepancies since at the end of the day I’m still getting jobs done and give it a 2sec adjustment in post if needed. I edit on a calibrated Eizo monitor that costs as much as my entire RF system LOL so I know that what I’m seeing is what I’m getting from the camera. I don’t know if PotatoJet tested it on a high end monitor, maybe his monitor has a cast of its own, because on my 30k Eizo I actually had spot on white balance in 96% of the cases. I also have a grey card with me on most of my shoots just to make sure in case I ever see anything strange on my camera display. Since on my Eizo I get such a spot on WB, I think Canon also afforded the best monitors during the R&D phase when putting the R5 together. Consumer level monitors, even 10bit monitors around 1000$ have a color cast. It’s the reason why for my company invested in the best possible monitors, to make sure I know exactly what I’m delivering to my customers in terms of everything.
I love the R5. I rarely shoot video so my love is photo only. I shoot Raw so the magenta is not an issue. In fact I think it is better for Black Skin-tones. I am not a fan of Sony color. I also know as a Consumer Electronics company they come out with new gear too often and it kills the resale value if you want to upgrade. Just a preference. Glass wise can’t go wrong with EF-L or RF Glass.
I usually prefer native glass but Canon apparently blocking 3rd party lenses is enough of me to avoid anything RF.
Cam is a true artist . His work is great and so is his channel . Glad to see you mention him .
He got one good channel and one right wing maga anti-vax channel. Gross.
PLOT TWIST, I may switch back to Fuji GFX. But yes, in my opinion, all these cameras are great. I think it just comes down to what someone’s creative vision is and what camera best suits that. From color to ergonomics. I really don’t understand why people get so bent out of shape on all of this, it’s just a tool that allows us creatives to find happiness and make a living.
Haha...Thanks for the "Film Stock" inspiration for this video, Cam. Love your work, man.
I’ll be looking forward to watching a “reasons why…” video in the future if you do switch. I love your work’s look and style.
@@anthonymoreno894 don’t think I’ll make one. Might keep the R5 for work
@@ogonzilla always been a fan of your channel brother. Goofy entertainment and photography passion haha
@@ogonzilla cams great!
Hey Omar, do you find the R5 autofocus works better during low light (flash) events than the Nikons?
I recently found your channel. Love your humor and your down to earth vibe! Gonna check some more of your videos!
If you don't want to hold down buttons on the Nikon, there's a Hold option in the Function menu (introduced in the early 2000s)
I noticed a similar thing, but a LONG time ago. Canon's original 1D has a magical quality to it, and I noticed that when I upgraded to the CMOS based 1D Mark IIn, the IQ just wasn't there for me. The same applies to my now old 60D, and I'm sure it'll also apply to the 7D II that I just purchased yesterday.
Have you tried the Cobalt Image profiles that do a great job of matching colors for all cameras to the color pallet checker. There able to produce a Process where Nikon, Sony, an Canon can all align to the standard color checker. Thanks for the video.
Interesting. The colours on my R6 are a bit weird compared to the 80D I used to use. Very warm, and with miles too much blue (for my taste). I can’t decide if it’s actually the camera, or Abobe’s CR3 algorithm.
The Canon RP actually has the same vibes of the 5D MkII or at least very similar. I have both and I cannot see much difference in the out of camera results.
The colours have nothing to do with the sensors, as all sensors are black and white essentially, but the CFA = colour filter array thats placed ONTOP of the sensor that diverts light to the various pixels has everything to do with the colours.
Usually a thicker CFA = more colour depth and accuracy, but also noisier images and loss of dynamic range.
Thats why older cameras from 1995 - 2012ish had beautiful colour rendition, because the CFA was usually thicker.
So far the only camera that I found which has a bit of a colour priority is Samsung NX1 and NX500 seem to have VERY thick CFA on their sensors and as a result their max usable ISO is like 1600 but you rather use it at max 800 as there is a massive dynamic range loss beyond 800 ISO. But the colours, oh my God the colours.
Correct. This is why RUclipsrs should put disclaimer they don’t fully understand how cameras work.
@@takoflame4948 I believe that is generally considered part or related to the sensor. If you dont want to be too technical. I guess even top engineers know what the guy was trying to imply when he referred to it as the sensor. I dont see any time soon that canon will make a camera with a CFA that can be easily replaced and detached from the sensor.
I think the actual mechanics, although nice to understand, are irrelevant to me.
@@ogonzilla
Yes for most this is irrelevant, but people saying this and that camera have better colours etc, CFA is practically the only reason why colours might appear more vibrant or washed out.
Panasonic S1 and S1R have thicker CFA on their sensors despite using Sony sensors which would explain why they have the best colour depth only next to medium format.
@@SMGJohn I've always found Panasonic colours to be very good, but strangely many people criticise Lumix colours. I also had a Canon 5D, which had great colour but very poor dynamic range, and still have an X-Pro1. I wouldn't describe either as accurate per se, but film colours were rarely true to life, yet people love them. I wonder if the relatively low pixel count adds to colour rendition, or at least the ease of processing?
I think when it comes to the colour profile, you cannot select camera standard for R series.
Instead you have to select Camera Standard V2. I find that Adobe Standard etc doesn't work, and using V1 will make skin tones kinda yellow/greenish.
I’m amazed how bad the Adobe Canon camera profiles were. Magenta city.
I've never been much of a color snob, but I do generally like what I get by default out of my Nikon Z6. I use ART (a fork of RawTherapee) as my main raw editor, and I can use all the Adobe color profiles for the Z6 by copying them from the free Adobe DNG converter's program data. They seem to match up quite well with the camera JPEGs. It's nice to know that I can start with something very close to the profiles that came with the camera by using these, because some raw converters don't have the greatest camera profiles. I also have access to a slew of film simulations to change the "film stock" if I want a different look. Playing with all these color options has opened my eyes to how different they all are and how the "best" look is definitely not always the most true-to-life. It makes sense to me that if you can't easily get files out of the R5 that look good to you, it's probably not worth the effort.
Wow. I thought this was just me. I've been using Canons since the 10D including several pro bodies. I've even used several Olympus cameras and even a Nikon D810. I always liked the files out of Canon cameras and probably the best color profiles were out of the 5D, 40D and 5D II. But ever since I've been using the R5, it's been an absolute nightmare for me. I've never had to do so much work on RAW files to get the images just close to what I want. Sometimes I think some of these companies try to do so much with features and with video that they don't focus on improving the basic stuff for photographers. You're right about the dynamic range and about skin tones. Used to be, I could take a RAW file from a 40D or a 5D and maybe do a little contrast boost and a touch of sharpening and I'd be finished. Now, I'm all over the place with color channels, sliders, color wheels, etc and I just don't like having to work that much on each file. I also have to be very careful in bright or contrasty conditions to make sure I don't blow out my highlights. Even worse, there doesn't seem to be any consistency to it, so I can't come up with my edits and batch process the rest of the files either. It's very frustrating.
Luckily, I haven't bought into any RF lenses yet, so I'm seriously considering moving over to Fuji or Nikon to start getting some better colors again. I hate to give up Canon's EF and great glass but I'm at my wit's end right now and am ready to jump ship.
You verbalized exactly what I experienced with these files compared to the old. Few sliders vs a full on work day! Lol
EF lenses can be adapted to Nikon Z and Sony E with full functional autofocus (for photography, not for video) with the right adapter.
5d classic renders the tastiest raw file ever for me. The more i shoot it the more i wanna carry it around and shoot it for more.
I believe there is or are adaptors with AF that allow the use of Canon glass on Fuji cameras, if you go that route. I own a Fujifilm X-T4 and the colors are really good. I recently posted a couple of pictures on my Facebook page but didn't have the time to fiddle with the RAW files. I just took the JPEGS and played a little bit with contrast and exposure and... voilà! JPEGS are quite good straight out of the camera.
BTW, I also recently picked up a Sony A7C with a zoom for such a good price that I just had to get it. I am planning to compare the 2 when I have the chance, just for fun.
The perfect camera doesn't exist... yet! LOL. But the perfect camera for you is the one that gives you the most satisfaction with the results. For me, the X-T4 is it!
My suggestion is to keep the R5 and just add a X-T4 (start with the inexpensive Fujinon 35 mm f2, a favorite among Fuji shooters) or an other Fuji model and do your own comparisons. And decide later which route you want to go.
What software are you using? If it's Lightroom, then that's your issue. Adobe has crappy camera profiles for Canon's new cams. You need to use Canon or Capture One raw software.
I get a kick out of people who use third party software then blame the camera for bad colours. In fact, most people who have shot Canon for a long time (like myself) prefer the R5 colours to anything that came before it.
Subscribed! This was my first experience with Omar, I gotta say that I like this guy.
I spit out my coffee with that opening Omar lol
I look back on my photos on OneDrive from several cameras: Canon 20D, 50D, 7D, 7DII, 5DIII, EOS R, Fuji XT10, Power Shot, and Fuji XT3 and I honestly can’t tell what camera I used to take the image. To me, all these modern sensors work great. If I had some extra cash on hand I would buy the Leica Q with the 28mm lens. Just for fun….
Great video like always. Although I am not a Canon shooter (anymore since I gave it up in 1985 with my AE-1 😉), it’s very interesting to hear what you think about the colours of the R5. I often think about trying out Canon because of the AF, lens selection, haptics, etc. But finally I remember that the look of the pictures and especially the colours are the most important things to me, I am happy to stick with Nikon (F and Z) and Fuji. Thanks for reinforcing my opinion. 🙏
Good choice 👍🏼
I clicked on your video while checking my phone. I was surprised when I heard Kasey's intro. 🤣
I just bought the R5, upgrading from a R6, and the colors are different between these two, maybe you’d like the colors of the R6, the sensor is the same as their latest DSLR flagship.
Wow. So true. Color and dynamic range. Great video as usual 😍👍
I've been a fuji user from the X-T1 because of the dials and the film simulations. I recently tried R5 and R7 for birds photography. Canon 800mm F11 is incredible, sharp and light with great reach. The auto focus of these two cameras are unreal, so so good. But I keep coming back to my Fuji. I don't know why until you pointed it out. Yes, I'm tired of sliders. 🤔
Have you seen Irene Rudnyk's channel? Wow, she makes the R5 with the 85mm combo SING!! I've never held an R5 but her videos make me want that camera. (aslo Jan Wegener's channel make bird photog. look easy) Just sayin'.
I guess most of the cameras are better in recovering shadows, than highlights. With my X-T4 I always set exposure for brightens parts and then pulling shadows up to 4 stops, while image can still look respectable (on the lowest possible ISO, of course)
Raw (CMOS) files have limitations in heavy graphic design. CMOS sensors also run into color seperation issues of the yellow channel, blues break up and reds still clip too easy. Still shooting CCD so our graphic artist don't complain.
I don't get why we don't go back to CCD with today's ADC, SNR ai software and baked in NR in which makes raw files noiseless at the sensor (Pentax).
The image really cuts, when I process my R5 images in Lightroom I don’t use the Adobe colour profile at all I select standard or faithful as I also shoot jpeg. Did you shoot in standard raw or c raw, people say they can’t tell the difference but maybe it’s the colour where the difference is?
I absolutely hate canon right now because all I want is a lightweight reasonably fast weathersealed prime.
But do I sell my R5 or lock it away for ten years until sigma finally releases an appropriate lens for it.
Canon colours hit but then so does classic chrome
For me the dealbreaker is the price.
Most new systems these days are well over 2 grand, Panasonic FF are super cheap for what they do, Nikon has the older Z6 and Z7 series and the Z5 of course but lenses still pricy and Sony cheap glass all day long.
Should’ve said that. You’re right.
I enjoyed your video. Very unique and different. Thanks for sharing!
Image quality that requires much less fiddling with in post. The entire reason I switched from Canon to Nikon for mirrorless. The auto-focus will catch up. That said, I get just as many keepers of my hyper cat with the Nikon eye system as I did with the Canon. You're right though, the Canon bodies and the vast button customization options are what I'll miss.
While I am not a fan of DPP4, I find it interesting that everyone who I've heard talk about the wonky colors on the R5 (and I was one of them early on) doesn't compare the Raw image displayed in DPP4 to what they're getting from Lightroom/Camera Raw or their raw editor of choice. I think that's because DPP4 knows how to interpret the raw data and everyone else has had to reverse engineer it without Canon's help. It was almost a year before Adobe introduced camera-specific profiles for the R5 and the Adobe profiles were awful. I wound up buying 3rd party profiles which were still better than the Adobe R5 specific profiles when they were introduced. No one wants to work harder to get what used to be easy, but if colors are your problem try starting with DPP4 and see if that "fixes" it for you. Not saying it will, but you might be surprised.
Ha!!!! Love that snippet of Kasey's intro. What many miss about him is that his channel is first a comedy channel... :-) Love that you referenced Cam. He shoots in that desert environment a lot with crazy light and shadows. But, it's a really cool look. One thing I love about your channel besides the fact that you are a great teacher(BTW, you may have missed your calling! You would have made an awesome teacher. Kids love you!) is that you spread the love. You're not a one pony show that only thinks one brand or device is THE BEST! Have a great rainy Sunday!! 🙂
I was unhappy with the colors I was getting out of Adobe’s raw converter and Lr profiles until I used a custom profile generator tool. Eventually Adobe updated their profiles and got them a lot closer, but if color rendition is important to the user, they should consider making a custom profile.
Yup. Did that too. Thanks
@@ogonzilla Just to be clear, you made your comments about R5 color even after using the latest Adobe camera specific profiles for the R5? The camera specific profiles aren't doing the job for you in yielding the Canon colors that you love?
@@neild108 Yes, I used the up-to-date profiles. But I also used Capture One and Canon's own software.
I had a Canon with the dust protection and I thought "what a great idea and a useful thing to have" until I started thinking about it. Does it really protect the sensor from anything? I mean, if dust gets in, it cannot get on the sensor, right? Well, the dust gets in and stays in until you open the dust protector and then gets on the sensor anyway. So, I don't think the sensor protector really does anything.
And that is why i just shoot with the jpeg instead of the raw on my r6. I gave up on tweaking with the canon. But goodness potatos the flexibility on the jpegs are wonderful on the r6.
All I want is a video about your thought on the Fuji X Summit and Fuji XH2 :D
My experience with the Eos R was that underexposed pictures could easily be resstored in lightroom, while overexposure pictures were unsavable after only one stop missed. How does the R5 handle underexposure?
Digital cameras are generally that way, so it's generally better to underexpose slightly and push the shadows.
R5 is probably the best camera for dynamic range... and most of that comes from bringing up shadows as you should with digital cameras. Testing highlights is a very weak dynamic range test for digital cameras... very flawed.
@@77dris Do you mean that the R5 is the best _Canon_ camera for DR? Because it certainly isn't the best camera overall. And, full disclosure, I am an R5 shooter.
Same. I barely edit my Nikon files. They look almost perfect, and with a couple of global adjustments I'm done.
Yeahman, like you said! Have a bundle of Canon L lenses. I tried the Nikon 6ii and was wowwed by it. But wasn’t getting dependable IS from 3rd party lens adapters. So i cheaped out, returned the z6ii and got an R6 as i didn’t want to have to replace all my long zooms and primes. But once you taste that Nikon dynamic range and light metering, its hard to go back. So now i am back, having bought a z50 to give me an intro to the system and pondering when to jump back in for my work camera.
Always love watching your videos Omar. I know what you mean when you say older dslr film stock/ look. - Hence my love for the Nikon D3X.
Shot ALOT of weddings on 5dII and III
Every once in a while I had a groom that skin colors didn't work and was very difficult to fix.
The mark III had worse colors than the II.
And I had mine calibrated also...
With Nikon d610 and d810 I have no problems with skin colors.
Dxomark really shows the difference in color sensitivity with these sensors.
Mark II reissued as a mirrorless would have fans.
@@ogonzilla you can push the shadows of a D610 5 stops. 5d II 1.5 stops maybe. Plus so much less colors. It's just inferior to even old Nikon's... The old EF L lenses have great character though... You can mount them to any modern Fuji or Nikon with an adapter and have the most epic quality.
maybe the dynamic range thing have to do something with the fact that this camera is iso variant? but idk
Oh and I love ur stuff man, funny, smart and I learn things
Thanks for watching
I'm with you on the battery life. Not only is it not great on my R5 it will drain quickly with the camera off just sitting idle. I have to remove the battery from the camera once I am done shooting if I expect any battery left at all next time I shoot. I love just about everything else on the R5 including the amazing 4k/120 fps. Pair that with the RF 100-400 for some amazing wildlife video footage. The IBIS is great after the latest firmware update. Cheers.
It seems that new high frame rate cameras like R5, A1, and Z9 don't produce the highest quality raws. I believe its the price they pay for ultrafast sensor readout
R3 is a more accurate representation - stacked sensors can suffer from a higher noise floor and some weird color shifts (especially Fuji X-H2S suffers from a greenish shift), R5 is just a weird solution. I personally like its' colors but the ban of 3rd party lenses is a deal-breaker for me. I'd go with R5C for my hybrid purposes but now I'm stuck between Sony A7IV and A7S3 as Nikon Z9 is out of my league and I don't want to rely on Fuji autofocus and weird exposure blinks when I need it for shooting videos.
Been shooting with an EOS R for the past few months, and shot Fuji prior to that.
Maybe it’s down to processing? I know my files skew orange, but I work exclusively in capture one, using their linear response profile (as close to no pre-applied curve as is available), and am finding the files much more flexible than my fuji files. I’m know the dynamic range is better on Sony and Nikon, but for what I shoot (portraits and headshots), it’s doing what I need it to. Lots of room to play and fine tune. I may make another jump to Sony or the GFX system if I can justify the cost, but by and large am happy with what I’m seeing here.
Try bringing your photos in with DxO's PhotoLab or CaptureOne. Very noticeable differences in skin tone straight off the camera. I've been using both more than LrC over the past 6 months.
You just made my day. Was debating picking this up and now I won't.
I never had a issue with battery on Canon R5. I do events and it involves both photo and video.
With the bird videos I’ve seen out of someone’s R5 with some incredible af I’ve been wishing I had the money for one for a while. Interesting to hear about the weakish dynamic range.
Any chance you will review the Canon r7? Kind of an exciting option for light-weight, travel, wildlife, etc. Without breaking the bank.
The intro got me crying ahahaha
It's an interesting thought. The same way Fuji has their emulations, the new Canon's could have 5Dm3 color emulation and other profiles.
Same issues with me but with a different body.
somehow, I still prefer my T5i's color (old sensor) than my M50's haha
there's just really something with the reds of the M50 that I hate color correcting
if it weren't for the video capabilities and dual pixel af, I'd happily sell this camera and keep using my old one as my main camera lol
"that's not my intro" - haha!
Thanks for the video, needed this information. Dynamic range, color science is the basic requirement for a photo. If yoh can't make that good enough then it doesn’t carry any value to me, autofocus is kinda secondary.
Totally agree. I have a Canon RP which I absolutely love, and the colors for most things are great, except for skin tones. Way too much magenta, even when adjusting the white balance tones in camera. My old 550D had perfect skin tones but I don't think it's a mirrorless vs. DSLR thing, because the sensor on the RP is the same as on the 6D MkII. Switching from sRGB to AdobeRGB and using a color card does help, and if you spend some time on the RAW files you eventually get the tones right, but it's pretty labor intensive compared to just pushing the shutter button on AWB and getting it right straight out of camera.
The intro caught me off guard 😂😂😂
Just a quick snip about some of the points, the EVF runs the battery quicker and the dynamic range runs into the shadows more it's about balance between the two and not just recovery of the highs. While the res and new CP3 Files is what is the deal breaker and why the R and RP work more to what you like / use too though I'd say that any of these are not deal breakers and things to get around. Each to their own and an interesting and not to techy video about it and I like the idea of looking at sensors as film stocks, in theory at least
Nice topic! Love your videos, Omar. If you say there is a color difference I believe it because you have a ton of experience with portraits (based on what I've seen in your videos). Would have been nice to see a few side by side comparisons so we can have a better idea of what the color differences are.
I loved Canon, when they played in small dark basement bars and performed for beer and a dinner. (Canon Rebel and 5D).
😎😁🤣
Yep, currently I'm still rocking 5DmkIV, but I'm totally cooled off the idea to switch to Canon mirrorless.
Nikon, my first love, here I come...
I still own (10 years) and use ONLY the 5D3 lol had Fuji for a bit but that got boring... I don't care much for mirrorless. I think I will upgrade to a 5DSR :D
Good plan!
Interesting but I am a bit surprised because I have always felt the R5 sensor is fantastic compared to previous Canons I have had. I have used pro Nikon’s Canon’s and also dabbled with Panasonic and Olympus over the years. My R5 seems much much better to me. I think the main issue with this disagreement is that I don’t shoot people ( photographically) but travel and wildlife mainly. For those genres it’s fantastic, and produces probably the best quality images I have seen myself. In any case surely the colour science is a bit irrelevant shooting RAW because it’s a flatter image needing colour changes anyway? Anyway I love the channel and you are a great presenter! Good luck with your new cameras!
Thanks. Appreciate it. I agree. Had no issues shooting cityscapes, nature. Skin is so nuanced.
the abrupt ending! 😂
Bro LMAO. The camera conspiracies intro ... Hilarious
Have you considered trying the Solution from Cobalt Image? It saved my ass. I come from Nikon too and I hated my R6 dearly until lately. Nonetheless I'm still using my Nikon Df in every occasion I can, especially indoors. It can produce absolute perfect Jpegs...
You caught me at "dabbling" in Nikon Z! I will say that my z5 and z50 handled dynamic ranch really well... and I added the nikon grip for the z5 which really helped. I used Canon when the original 5d and the 30d were king, but I don't miss canon and love my Z's!
Same here. The Z files are great out of the gate.
@@ogonzilla guess u both like out of focus pics!!!!
wow. I love the colours from my R5 and R6. Before the colour matching profiles were out I did find some difficulty. Z6ii files are fab but I did not find it had better dynamic range. I've tried what Sony and Nikon has to offer and the R5 is my favourite next to the R6. different strokes.
Same here. I absolutely don't know what he is talking about.
@@momenteimlicht3375 I guess he just needs content
@@momenteimlicht3375 I’ve read reviews with ppl complaining about the color of the R5 and even R3, not being great.
Thought about switching but the Z7 files and the Nikon glass made me to stick with the Nikon to be honest. The AF on last gen Z's isn't great but you can achieve results if you know how to work with the AF system. Nikon is getting there with the AF tho. The next Z should fix the AF issues with the old gen Z's.
Matching canon colors is rough. Josh Satin, Cam, Tyler S, and Carlos Q they've also they don't match they're take is mostly from video but it definitely applies here. That being said I love my R5 it works for me, but it aint perfect. I too don't like the on/off switch and flipping between photo and video takes way too long, and finally dynamic range in video, but that's it.
Happy the camera works for you! That’s what’s important. 😁
agree with you, colours and tones aren't as good on R5. I have a R6 and 5dii and matching is manageable, although it takes work and sometimes also adding film grain overlays!
Dude your are the first youtuber to talk about this I've been shooting Canons since the original 5d till the R6......
For me the first Canon I got that had a "color" problem was the 5div but it wasnt that bad then the R which was worse and now the R6 which is a little bit better than the R but nowhere near the 5d, 5dii, 5diii sensors. Im now switching to either Sony or Nikon
Super interesting! I had the original R and felt I could never get the color looking the way I wanted, so I bought an X-rite color checker thing and just created a custom profile. Worked great. I have the R5 now and feel it’s that much better, but I’m still using that custom profile. I’d put this more on Adobe to get their canon specific profiles in order. Both the R and R5 looked much better with capture one. But you’re right, people should find a camera that works for them and not have to bend over backwards to create a custom profile or use different software to make the files look good.
Bingo! This!
Adobe botched the new Canon profiles. For best results use Canon software or Capture One.
Camera conspiracies shoutout 😂 that dude is pretty funny. R5 price is a dealbreaker for me. I’m boxing up my R and rf glass and selling it. Bought an A7iii and using my ef glass and I love it. Also love my Fujifilm xt2 & xt10 ❤️
This was a hilarious review dont agree what so ever I started with canon rebe, canon 40D, 5D MKII, MKIII, MKIV, now I own RP and R5 and they are amazing cameras same goes for the colors.
I completely agree. The older Nikon , canon DSLR’s just looked better. Old Fuji too.
3:39 John mayers Born and raised !??😳
One more reason to love this Chanel !! 👌🙌🙌
I am a fuji user. I respect canon camera and was thinking to get a canon camera but i face the same thing DR. i cancel the deal
As a RP (and newly R6 and R7 owner, but i sell the R6 for sure, not the wished performance for all my needs) owner i have to say, i also like the RPs colors (basically a optimized 6D Mk2 sensor) a little bit more, in overall i like how the RP throw out a lot more "ready" images which i barely need to edit, while the R7s images, especially since i shoot in higher ISOs need a lot of editing. But also with ISO of 400 or 800... idk, if its just auto white balance or the internal processing with a newer sensor.
However, for 120 fps video and 4k24/4k60, beside birding the main reason for the R6/R7 im pretty fine. Still i need to learn how to edit c-log, but for now im pretty fine with normal videos which give already A LOT BETTER RESULTS than the RP ever could.
In my opinion the R7 is even superior to the R6 (when you dont look at high ISO performance!), just the pre burst mode got me a few interesting shots the first day i had the R7 for birding which would have been impossible with R6 or RP (or just luck with hammering the shutter)
Hey Omar, Jose from Puerto Rico. I just saw J. Christina mentioning on his channel that the R5 will receive a major firmware upgrade. I don't know if that would help you, but just wanted to let you know. The only Canons I owned were 2 film cameras (T-90 and a F-1) and then a 7D DSLR. I currently shoot with a OM-1 Systems (previously Olympus).
I thought you were going to say the lens mount is locked down :-)
Re: NIkon ISO, you don't need to hold down a button to adjust ISO, there are a handful of other options. But fair enough, I'd welcome a third / dedicated dial too.
Could you offer a couple of examples? I shoot Nikon and would love to know of a different method to change ISO without pressing a button and rotating a dial. Thanks.
Wow, I thought it was just me. I really liked the colors out of the 5D4 and 5DSR. The R5 was way different. I didn’t care for it.
So perhaps you can test a Hasselblad X2D and report back. 🤠
I hear you but from someone that lives in Canon world and have owned the 40D, 80D, 90D, 6DII, R and now the R5, it's the best allrounder in the Canon family. It's balanced enough it does sports/wildlife, street, portrait, astro and landscape well which is what I was looking for. When doing sports/wildlife I turn off the LED and just use the view finder. Agree, it is a bit of a battery hog. Regardless, I love it and plan to use it for years.
I’d take the 6DII (RP) sensor over it though. Had the 40D. Loved that camera. 😁👍🏼
@@ogonzilla The 6DII had a hoarded auto focus system. Didn't work well for birds. Agree though, the images were beautiful. Wish I hadn't sold that one.
@@jimtipton8888 That dang bird photography! So tough.
@@ogonzilla 😃But addicting!
Love the new Intro haha
The $4,000 price tag is my deal breaker....just sayin...😃
The dynamic range comparison was botched badly here. I mean, with digital you shouldn't be pulling down highlights like that (though the R5 is still heaps better than most). You should be pulling up the shadows and that's where the R5 beats all Sony, Fuji and Nikon cameras with maybe the exception of the z7 series where they are neck and neck (the R5 beats the z9 though).
Also, if you are using Adobe for editing Raw files, colour issues are with Adobe, not a Canon problem. The colours coming out of the Canon software is amazing!
Shooting with Fujifilm - and love the colors. Contemplating about going FF - or just as well GFX.. the latter seems perhaps more interesting when it comes to color rendition.. Got a great deal on the R5 - but this got me thinking.
If u want a genuine upgrade go for gfx. Otherwise a good jump would be Sony for faster autofocus and FF
GFX sensor is pretty special. Great colors!!
@@ReviewsWorld My local pusher claims Sony and Nikon are more similar in colors to Fujifilm, and that Canon needs more post edit.
Also - I saw a comparison of AF on R5 and X-H2s which blew me away. The R5 was inferior on greater distances.
@@btpaulen I have used sony and canon cameras most after Fuji. Canon has good colour science but really different from Fuji. Tbh fuji is very different in colour science from any of these cameras. If you genuinely want to get a better IQ gfx would be amazing choice especially next gfx would have autofocus abilities of xh2s. While u can get new xh2 which has much better autofocus now.
FF made a huge difference for me.
Great Video! Do I spy a San Martin??
The lack of third-party lenses and Canon's recent move to block them is the deal breaker for me. The inferior dynamic range is a big issue too if you are used to Sony or Nikon. If you have not used a Sony or Nikon camera, you don't know what you are missing in terms of dynamic range, shadow and highlight recovery. While these downsides can be factually demonstrated and verified, the "wrong color" issue? Well, that is something you can work around, and I guess it is a bit of a personal taste thing?
I switched from Sony to Canon(A7Riii to R6), and as you(and Omar) said, there isn't quite as much dynamic range. What's interesting, to me at least, is that the loss is all on the highlight side. I can raise shadows just as well, and the R6 handles high iso really well, but if you blow your highlights, you are SCREWED! lol You just have to lean into it and pretend it was on purpose.
As for the color, I agree that it depends on the personal taste and how someone processes the files. I've used a lot of different cameras, and Fuji was the only one that I really cared about the colors because they have those cool film simulations. I will say I'm happy with the move from Sony to Canon because the colors seems closer that what I want.
@@BrentODell Dynamic range is mostly under-exposure in all cameras. Some have a little more highlight recovery than others, but 3 stops over is absolute max in my experience.
Dude, the dynamic range of the R5 is basically the best of any digital camera... better than any Sony, and better than Nikon, even the z9. The only cams that give it a run are the z7 series (which might be SLIGHTLY better but they are very meh cams for most other things and also suffer from some banding in shadows).
Anybody who says the R5 doesn't have amazing dynamic range hasn't used one, or doesn't know what they are doing (as in this video where the guy is trying to recover highlights which is a no no for digital cams as the dynanic range is in the shadows).
I enjoyed this.
R5 is an incredible camera. Canon’s current business model is not so fantastic. The lack of lens options is worrying me!
I get it. The battery life thing is a pain. But of all the cameras I've had the 5 seconds it takes to change a battery is WAY shorter than the amount of time I'd spend fiddling with setting focus on a Panasonics or scrubbing through footage (without a touch bar scrubber thing) on the Sonys. Eventually I just had to pick camera and make an honest woman out of her instead of dating around forever (too expensive.) Hope you find what you are looking for, Omar.
(micro Hdmi ports should be illegal!)
Please try sony a1. I think canon colors are still 100% easier to edit :D
