- I preordered the Canon R5 on announcement day. Then I canceled it. I then preordered the R6. And also canceled.
Thank you B&H photo for the borrow. Their support allows me to give you some hands on videos like this one.

The R6 shares the exact same sensor as Canon's new 1DX3 flagship, $7000.00 camera. The sensor is designed for professional use. Speed, high image quality and outstanding low light performance. The R6 is a killer camera for wedding photographers.
Love my R6. Amazing that people are complaining about 20mp when the 1DX3 and D6 flagship cameras pack in 20mp and are used by pros all over the world.
Great colour science and autofocus system is brilliant. R6 is effectively a mirrorless 1DX3 for less than half the price.
I understand but why in the world will you get 20MP when you can get 45MP - makes no sense... However maybe for ordinary photographers. When you start going into high end product and fashion photography - this becomes - however for video - 20MP is even too much - I use a crop sensor camera for video as that is all I need.
@@m77ast A high % of pro photographers are wedding photographers. When you have back to back weddings thru the summer, i'd much rather edit a thousand 20MP photos. 20MP is sufficient for weddings. So yes, it makes sense to go with 20MP.
Yeah, i really don't understand the 20mp complaints either.
Some people are fine with 20MP, some photographers do more cropping, or have larger prints, and would benefit from higher MP. Makes no sense to go with 20MP for a $2500 Canon Camera when Sony's A7IV offers 33MP for the same cost. Unless you're a Canon fanboy lol.
When I did photography I used a 1Ds. 11 megapixels. Seeing people complain these days about megapixels is hilarious.
Have you tried shooting birds in flight. You can never get enough reach so cropping is a must. I mean a bald eagle will only get so close to humans where I love so even my R with 30 mpx needs a hell of a good crop with 600mm. So in some cases like wildlife yes cropping is critical for other type of photography may be less although aviation photos also need a hell of a good crop. I had the 1D Mk2N with 8 mpx and I travelled the entire west coast of Canada with only 8 mpix but today there is choice in pixels. The only question is what can I afford.
I was just going to comment.. why in the *{%+ does anyone worry about megapixels anymore.. given I’m more of a video guy.. but the most used Hollywood movie camera.. that’s shoots 100 Million dollar blockbuster movies... shoots 13 Megapixels. More doesn’t mean better. Less means bigger and better in low light. More is overrated.
@@tekguyphoto Totally valid comment. But let’s be real. 99% of the whiners aren’t shooting birds/wild life. People are just too lazy and don’t want to use the camera to frame the subject. They just want to take a picture and crop in to get their shot in post.
@S Tra They didn’t have electricity, didn’t mean they didn’t need it moron.
@S Tra Even if you could afford an R5 I could take better photos than you while using a Polaroid. 🤭😂
🎶All I want is the perfect camera 🎶
Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to stop singing, or I will call the vegetable police.
But so does camera conspiracy 😆😆
You nailed it . It is a reminder to us all that there is no perfect camera; and thank goodness there isn’t . Why? Well , we are all different and need different things. It’s called compromise . It requires making adjustments ha ha. A pain I know. But, for everything else, it sounds like a wonderful camera and if I were you, I would find changing not at all easy. Your present outfit meets your needs for now . It worked just great yesterday and will tomorrow.
On a side note , I recalled a focus issue you had on the Fuji and low and behold I identified something similar on one of my cameras from another stable. Yes, I thought, I know how to resolve that lol .
Keep posting your thoughts and opinions, as they resonate across so many issues that we all experience .
Thank you once again.
Loved the "present" and future concept of the video. Educational and entertaining. I left Canon (5D4) this year for Fuji (XT3)...lighter camera, lighter and smaller smaller lenses, film sims, and much more money in my pocket. The cost of changing from the 5D4 to the R cameras and lenses was too cost prohibitive for me. Yes, I know I could have gotten an adaptor. And used my existing Canon lenses. In the end, the money I made from selling all of my Canon gear paid for all of my Fuji gear with extra money to spare. Every one needs to make decisions based on their wants and needs. So any decision one makes has to be right for them. With the quality of cameras out there, there really are no wrong decisions, IMO. Looking forward to your follow up video)s) on the R6.
Exactly, and does your images look bad now? I guess it haven’t changed much, therefore spending the money for traveling is much better rather than for gear
Isn’t that Fuji a crop sensor camera.
Won’t touch it if it is. Crop sensor are great for video - I would not touch it for photography.
Thanks.
m77ast yes it is a crop sensor, but is not bad for photograhpy, isn’t it?
@@m77ast Why not lmao?
@@exquisitewidget4227 In photography there are some artistic elements that cannot be achieved with a crop sensor e.g. blurring the background. And to be perfectly honest - I want my 35mm to be 35mm and so on.
Man I think you would love the R5. It addresses some of the issues you have with the R6. Overheating isn't really an issue after latest firmware.
the 20mp full frame sensor should have better in low light noise performance
love the Canon Cripple Hammer shirt...
Two Omars for the same price! Tell the other Omar to start another RUclips channel and that way we can have more videos more often!
How’s the usability? For example, is it easy to switch between photo and video? Are all the button placements for customization to your liking? Are there any menu items missing that you wish were there?
Omar from the future can you please tell me what the winning lottery numbers for the mega millions are so that I will actually be able to afford this Canon R6? Thanks in advance
Future Omar says no winners in 2020
On A7IV you can assign a button for ambient exposure check when using flash
I actually really like how the r6 video looks, looks amazing
Almost went with the EOS R, but so glad i went with the R6. Zero overheating thus far. Color is excellent as well. Just a little warmer than the R, which i prefer. And as for the 20mp count, well, it's actually plenty.
I love both my eos r and r6. I mainly use the R foe videos now and use the r6 for my professional photography work.
Great video. I might purchase one but waiting to see what the Sony A7IV will look like. Touch screen, easy navigational menus and a fully articulating screen are a must for me.
I would love to see 4K 60p of R6 and xt4 🙏and your thoughts on both for videos THANKS 😊
Good review. Agreed about the 20mp at the price point is seemingly a con to the R6. I can see it perfect for weddings, events, sports - and I bet it’s noise at high ISOs is really good...but, might be tough to justify that price. The A7III has it’s own cons (at least to me - the EVF is terrible, and ergonomics/back screen/menus are not as good as Canon). Is the original R’s AF that bad still after the big update they did? I thought it was much better now.
Fuji XT-4 or Canin R6? And maybe a video comparing the 2?
Great to see an Omar real world review. It would be great to see a modern mirrorless between 24 and 45 megapixel. Just to have a little more crop ability.
I love seeing how you're working with all these companies and growing
Omar, I shoot with canon 5d3 and Fuji xt2 (love both systems) ...... always thought you were a Fuji guy ..... Has that changed ???
Hey Omar is that a crack in the caseing at13.49 just left of the canon logo, if so howdit happen did you do it , did it break easy?
I've owned the 5DMK4 and love that camera but after I rented the R6 3 weeks ago I had to buy it. As stated in this video, I wish it had at least 30MP sensor but to my surprise it hasn't been a turn off in terms of image quality. The R6 has been everything I expected it to be.
Thanks for the vid, Omar 👍
Love your Camera Conspiracies t-shirt for a Canon review! kudos
I have the R5 and R6 and enjoy them both. The R5 files are way bigger and when you have to sift through 6000 of them from one event it takes time. The R6 files are entirely more manageable and I am not seeing much quality difference from the R, 20 vs 30 is only relevant when you pixel peep.
20MP not enough? Im my day we just had 1 pixel and you had to take 300k images just to fill a VGA screen... people have it too good today... except for music, something went really wrong there.
I was going to get the r6 but I don’t feel it’s to much of a upgrade from eos r ,yes it’s better then eos r,but not good enough and I can’t justify $4k for R5.it looks like I’m getting the Panasonic s5 I need good dynamic rage and and the Panasonic s5 it’s probably the best camera in my price range ($2k).great review by the way👍
It's even better way to preview your ambient exposure with trigger on. You just need to press AF select button on top right of the camera and set button in the middle of the wheel straight after.
Hi Omar, great video! Would love to see a comparison against the XT4 and how Canon justifies the high price tag.
Xt4 is garbage and this is coming from a Fuji user. They dropped the ball.
high price tag.... really. 4-5 years ago ... this is not even a dream.
I’d like to see this too.... In fact also against the Sony, at least in terms of image quality, FF against APSC with the Fuji Raw converted in Lightroom, C1 and Irident X transformer 👍😁
You wouldn't say that they crippled the 1D Mark III. it's their top of the line camera and this is running the same sensor. Also I've seen many comparisons between the 5D Mark IV and the R6 where they are cropped in equal amount and because of the rendering of the new processors on the R6 the quality is unnoticeable
Guys you don;'t have idea about photography.
Nobody crippled 1D MARK III, to make great camera is not enough just a sensor.
Why nobody speaks about some other ability of the camera like ,FOCUS in low light CONDITION at wedding when people are dancing ????
Do you have idea how great is 1D MARK III????????
I owned before 5d mark 3(junk camera is not a camera for wedding) and now i have 5d Mark IV and 1Dx MARK III.
The way how 1D MARK 3 focuses in low light CONDITION IS STUNNING !!!!
5D MARK iV is a GARBAGE comparing to 1dx MARK III. When i shoot weddings and people are dancing 1dx MARK 3 is working amazing for example in combination with the most hated lens from CANON 50mm 1.2.
95% of photos which i do with canon 1dx mark III with 50mm 1.2 are in FOCUS, there is no anymore issue with BACK FOCUS !!!
i use LIVE VIEW SCREEN FOR EYE DETECTION and camera takes all photos in FOCUS.
1DX is EXTREMELY accurate and FAST in low light CONDITION. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CAMERA FOR WEDDINGS !!!
@@travelexplore9724 who are you talking too? Im saying the 1d mark iii is not crippled so to say that the same sensor is crippled in another body is laughable.
Marcus Free
Yes, but all these guys on RUclips they speak all day about video specs, I do photography like the most of the people are using these cameras in nova days!
Photographers are way more than videographers and I don’t care if Sony has 120fps at 4K or 240fps.
Most of us use this camera for events outdoor or indoor in low light.
We need FAST/accurate FOCUS!
LESS NOISE!
Dynamic range ??? this guy from video is talking about Dynamic Range, I’m a pro and I don’t need to recover 2-3 stops of light never or at least 99.9% of the time.
If you cannot shoot and you are new to photography maybe SONY AND NIKON with Dynamic range are better, but all other photography function on Canon 1Dx Mark III are far superior to any Sony camera!
1Dx Mark III:
It’s CRAZY FAST can be used quick from different settings, buffer is quick and doesn’t lock.
Is never blocking!
Good in ISO Noise !
ETTL works great, better than 5D Mark 4 when you use flash on camera.
The focus is crazy fast and EXTREMELY ACCURATE ESPECIALLY with PRIME LENSES!
Weather sealing is way better in 1Dx Mark III comparing to Sony.
About color everybody says Canon is the best, but here I will leave you to decide which colors you like better, everybody has different taste.
So why nobody says all these real useful advantages where CANON humiliate Sony?!?
I put these 2 cameras head to head. The AF on the R6 is WAY better and so is the low light performance. I'm returning the X T4. It's no contest for my style of shooting. The color reproduction, ability(hit rate)to attain tack sharp photos and overall performance was way way better on the R6. I like the feel and sound of the X T4 better but the end results and the ability to get those results R6 no brainer for me. Match the R6 with a lens that has IBIS and the 2 systems combined allows for really sharp photos at 1/4 second hand held.
Hi Omar - I currently own the Fujifilm Xt3 and have been considering either upgrading to the XT4 (or skipping a gen) or possibly having a FF option in my arsenal.
I've heard great things about the Sony A7III and wondered if this would be a good addition to have?
I compare some of the Fuji pics on the web vs some of the Sony and I love Fuji for this sort of natural, film and almost reportage style look - but with the Sonys - the images just look extremely crisp and sharp (!!) It's difficult to explain - so I was wondering if you were to choose between the R6 or the A7III, which would you go with? (I'm aware needing to invest in glass is another commitment too) - but I'm considering keeping my Fuji for my personal photography and saving it for either the video capability and having the A7III as a main stills.
Thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated - thank you in advance!
The point is.....does all the new gear prevent us from going to Lr and Ps
Congrats on the R6! I also purchased it and have been learning how it functions in the field. Some minor niggles I need to work more with, but overall, it appears Canon *finally* caught up in mirrorless and AF tech. I can live with the 20mp, but I hear ya' on that. Looking forward to your new insights on how this works for you!
What were the minor niggles for you?
@@boerjacco3036 Using off-camera flash the x-sync in full-frame mode needed to be 1/200th (same as older Canon full frames - 5DIII, etc..) if I went faster I'd get the greyed bar in the result where the shutter started to close. Specs said 1/250th for X-sync (well - yes- when I put the camera in APS-C mode) - which also cuts the resolution. For run and gun, I use HSS w/on-camera flash that was fine. Also in some situations it felt as if I got a faster AF lock using old school specifying the AF point vs waiting on eye detect for a lock-on. Not really a deal-breaker and I need to test it in more controlled conditions to see if it's something I'm messing up. Also sometimes using the back touch screen (in Texas, on hot days in the field, when I'm sweaty and have my humid face pressed to the EVF while shooting) sometimes trying to use touch to move the AF point won't respond as it will otherwise. (May be a setting in there somewhere to tweak that. I'm only using part of the back LCD for touch AF movement - maybe my finger is out of the range OR part of my face is IN the range at the same time as my finger - which would make sense). Minor stuff overall. LOVE the R6 overall so far.
Hi OG, I am LOVING my R6 and the RF System. A wonderful compliment to my Fuji gear
20 mp is a bummer, but the better AF and lowlight capability make up for it. Plus IBIS!
If it was 2k it'd be perfect
Really digging the Canon Cripple Hammer t-shirt...
Noticed that too. I love Camera Conspiracies. Glad to see other fans out there.

@@HistoryNerd66 I'm not sure. Omar is a photographer and therefore a loser. 😀
Not sure the reduced megapixel is Canon cripple hammer...likely more related to current tech limitations with maintaining a full sensor readout at 4k 60p
Love the OOC jpegs from R6 (I rented with the nifty 50/1.8) The only unfortunate thing is there aren't many small-mid size lenses other than 35 and 50, which are close focal lengths.
Omar, yeah, am also stuck on that 20 mp sensor. I shoot a mix of things and for the times when one must crop a bit or print a landscape big, it does matter. Am gonna hang with my 26 mp RP for a while longer. The RP’s DR is sad and pathetic, but its WAY cheaper. Am actually intrigued by the Panasonic full frames.
I realized I can't get over it. Sony a7riii is 45mp beast is on sale for less. Damn Canon... :(
Great video! Would love a video of the R6 Screen when using flash on the display you mentioned. Sounded pretty neat!
what card do you use with it? is reading 170 mb/s
writing 90 mb/s ok?
Got an R6 for sports, brilliant camera! But as regards the “trigger” I don’t seem to be able to identify that 🤣
Hi Omar , what lens do I need in my Fuji X T30 to take a good picture of the moon ?
Thanks for your great videos

Question about switching from photo to video mode. Do you know how I can set it so that when taking pictures in "M" mode, after pressing the record button, Canon records in manual mode? When I do this the recording will go into automatic mode ...
+10 points for mentioning that all camera colors are alike - if only you use a color checker and make your own RAW color profile. People seem obsessed with out-of-camera colors - but frankly who buys a SLR to use JPEGS? Also good point on the delay before the protective screen goes up. Fail - that should be corrected in a firmware update one day. Also, 20 MPIX is a real issue. I got the R6 while waiting for the high MPIX RS, but its a bummer compared to the amazing 5DS/R files.
Can you explain again what happens with a flash trigger? Does the EVF actually turn off or you just don’t see the exposure adjustments?
So with Sony, you don't get an ambient room preview unless you turn your flash or trigger off. With the R6, this also happens, but once you fire the flash, you first get an image review of the flash shot, but then the camera gives you a live preview of the ambient room...so you can adjust setting. Touching the shutter will turn the lcd back on.
Omar Gonzalez Photography would love to see a demo of this. I’m really debating upgrading from a 5d3 but hesitant.
For me the color of this video (the future Omar, from R6) is way better than your other video man. Just look at it! compare it to the past Omar or your older videos. This has more cinematic feeling and overall just great look, seriously!
I really wonder how good this camera is for wildlife. The resolution is not high but the AF is rumored to be great. Let's see which lenses Canon is going to release for the upcoming Olympics.
A hint on swapping lenses: If you turn off the sensor cleaning in the camera menu, the camera shuts down immediately after you turn the on-off switch, so you don't have to wait. The shutter closes immediately and you can swap your lenses without having to wait.
I tried. Thanks! Still a 3-4 second delay. :(
Don't understand. For me camera turns off immediately and shutter closes in an instant. No waiting. Sensor cleaning / auto cleaning / disable.
@@ogonzilla Delay only if you use adapted lenses. No delay with with RF lenses and sensor cleaning turned off. That's it.
Interesting. When do you shoot Fuji vs Sony or Canon?
It's a shame that they crippled on the amount of mp. Love my xt3;) Looks like a good camera though.
Hey Omar! About the ambient preview with/without flash, the Sony actually has an option you could assign to a custom button, it's called "Shot result preview". You can view your scene with and without flash exposure. I got this from Manny Ortiz
I love your stuff man ! Informative with the value added bonus of humour. Thank you.
thank YOU
Couple mistakes in your information.
I think it was a mis-speak but the Sony A73 does not have 45 megapixels. That’s the A7R3. That camera is going for $1849, so yes better value as far as more megapixels goes.
BUT
The R6 is an awesome balance between low-light (less megapixel BENEFIT) and still being able to crop in.
Also, it has to do with the video specs- so that’s a 5.5K sensor and down samples for your 4K recordings.
So the 4K is extra crispy, AND it crushes in low light. The lower megapixels is not a cash grab as not to cannibalize the r5.
At least not SOLELY.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk 🤷🏼♀️😂
Also, I have the R and R6 and I literally can’t tell a difference in cropping photos
Nikon One, Micro 4/3, Sony RX10 and RX100 users have produced some impressive results with "only" 20 MP. I suggest you check out Linda Crawley on Flickr. Her work with the Sony RX10 is amazing.
For the life of me I can’t understand why they took the megapixel to 20. We do large prints including canvases as well.
My friend got his R6 last week but - I cant seem to get myself to buy it.
I was thinking of the video features but my Sony A6100 has HD 120 and 24MP sensor.
And as far as I am concerned the Super 35 is good enough for video.
I think Canon crippled it on purpose to get people to buy the R5 - but I think they shot themselves in the foot because Sony will release the A74 with 30MP, 4 card slots and everyone that was thinking of an R6 will just go for that.
Canon needs to understand - this game is a 2 horse race - one step in the wrong direction and they could lose everything.
I think it’s all about return on investment. By reusing the 1DX III sensor they saved on developing a new sensor for the R6.
They should have used the EOS R sensor - I would have been happy with that.
m77ast after watching this other R vs R6 comparison video I’m not sure I’d agree with you: ruclips.net/video/eqLNN7rN36c/видео.html
@@jayemery I have watched the video before - that man is talking about videography and like I said I record video with my A6100. For photography the EOSR is better with 30MP - thats just facts - what the EOS R has is IBIS, 2 card slots and 120FPS HD video.... I need these 3 things - but the 30MP is way more important.
When you shoot hybrid at events you use 4K!!!? Or do you use 1080 because won’t overheat.
No I shoot 1080 anyway. Unless I can't get close enough....for cropping.
Omar. Love the videos. For events and paid work, how much does only being able to record video to one card scare you?. Pretty much the only thing keeping me from getting the r6.
Always fair. Always funny. Great review Omar 👍🏻
I have the R5 and absolutely love it. Haven't done much on my EOS R since getting the R5. Probably going to replace the R with an R6. I'll gain more sharpness and detail from the IBIS (I shoot a lot in low light) than I'll lose going from 30 to 20 megapixels.
that's a lot of high end camera!
@@ogonzilla I guess (although not compared to that GFX100 you've been playing with). I need as many pixels and as much detail as I can afford because I like being able to crop into an image.
I am not sure R6 can be used as a case of Canon crippling. It uses the image sensor and processor from Canon's flagship DSLR.
Omar what are your conclusion today?
Can you have the leveller with eye detect on? You couldn’t with Eos R and RP but the Fuji’s have it.
It's for you definitely !
Still on the fence. I have the R with some RF and EF L lenses but need a hybrid camera with proper 4k. Just can't go from 30 Mp to 20 especially when I still shoot a good amount of landscape photos. I had the original 6D and can't imagine going back to 20Mpx. I complained then about not enough pixels so its hard to go back. My A73 and my 6DMk2 both had more. R5 would be ideal for me except my wallet can't afford it.
You're the only one where my translator goes nuts and no German sentence comes out xD he recognizes your language as korean
Ahaahhaha i love you man also yes im super disapointed with the amount of money i paid for the 20megapikles. :D
I'm happy with nikon z6 and version 2 is coming. Autofocus is not that crazy fast but it hasn't let me down. 🤣
Video color test - Future Omar can't see the difference, because there is no flip screen!! And needs to check later 🤔 Where the hell is future future Omar, is he sleeping on the job😁
The MP crippling is really tough to swallow. And let me guess, you bought A7S3? :)
no...but a Sony a7RIII for cheap....maybe. :)
Intriguing to see what the pro event Canon/Sony photog really wants and needs; compare with the family/travel/personal Fuji photog guy.

Thanks for your video(s)!
I don’t own it so I can’t really tell, but 20Mpx should be better in low light situations than a camera with higher resolution. For me (shooting theatre pieces and concert), 20Mpx would be just perfect. But I don’t crop that much and I understand your issue :)
Canon EOS R6 vs Fujifilm XT-4?
Well done...........Thanks
Thanks for your take but I completely disagree with you on the whole megapixel thing. The EOS R is not in any way, shape or form a "better value" than the R6. I actually laughed out loud at that. The R6 has the better sensor, much better AF system, can shoot 20fps, IBIS, dual card slots, better DR, WAY better in low light...and that's just off the top of my head. Thats easily worth the extra $500 the R6 costs. No idea how some people think the R6 is overpriced just because of its megapixel count. Are people really still this hung up on megapixels in 2021 when its been proven time and again they don't matter except for very isolated cases? The R6 is basically a mirrorless 1DX III for 1/3rd the price and with the new firmware update for video, it just become one of the best mirrorless video cameras on the market. Its an absolute steal.
For those people who say MP doesn't matter, then why did Canon bother with 20MP? Why not 30MP? If it really doesn't matter, they could just have slap the same MP as with R5? Sure MP isn't everything. Do anyone of you would prefer an R5 with 20MP? (Not counting the trolls of course).
Good stuff bro
Brilliant....
I onley shoot jpegs and looking to buy a new camera, the fuji xt2 or the nikon z50, i never use video.
I’ve yet to met a wedding photographer who dies same day edit.
Imagine how much $$$ they van make and weddings they can shoot . Nice!!!
Heard it only overheats in 4k
Excellent review...
I didn't like it either that they crippled it with only 20 MP when it's the same sensor as the R5 and retails for $2499 and overheats. They should mark it down to $1900 because of over heating issues and only 20 MP. 😂
not if you shoot fujifilm!!! LOL LOL LOL. ok canon today eh? I love your work!!!
Are you going to review R5?
Eh....I definitely want to try it down the road.
Are we not even gonna go into the fact that the Canon Eos RP is 26mp? I can see the R5 being the upgrade move from the R, but the R6 is not in any way a upgrade move from the RP, the R6 really stands at a strange product stack position in this lineup, its not even the Sony AS competitor.
The RP is great. It's that lil battery... Where's the RP mark II??
@@ogonzilla it is, happy owner of it, but yes, a mark 2 it's what I like to see, the R6 just fits in a strange product stack with it's pricing.
