Shows just how difficult it is to run a shotgun. These guys have shown to be proficient doing this drill with all of the different rifles in the previous few videos. The fact that James had to instruct them even though they're pretty skilled rifleman shows that the shotgun is NOT a beginner's weapon, it takes a lot of effort to run it.

    1) is the most difficult platform to master.
    2) with the wide variety of loads available it is one of the most versatile weapons platforms.
    3) it is the most violent weapon in the small arms arsonal.
    4) there is NOTHING, "defensive" about having to engage a target with a load of 00 BUCK.
Thank you again James.....get well soon.

A cop gave a me a really analogy for fighting with a shotgun many years ago. He said “imagine being in a gun fight with a single action revolver, and having to load one round at a time”. He was referring to revolvers with a loading gate. Anyone on the receiving end of the rounds these two guys put down range would most likely retreat or have multiple leaks in them.

James, I am evolving into learning more about the combative shotgun and this was a great introduction. I shoot skeet/clays competitively and even in the more calm atmosphere you will drop shells, etc. What the boys did is NOT easy by any means, and watching them actually made me realize the importance of a "ammo carrying/reloading" solution such as a bandolier or side saddle. Consider me a new subscriber, this was a great demo.

Me too. Unless it’s a mag fed version where I can slap another mag in real quick I always carry a secondary for this reason. See with rifles and their 30 round mags and the handguns and their 15 round mags I don’t really need a secondary as much but with shotgun it’s different because 7-8 shots is high capacity for these tube guns. They have relatively low ammo capacity. I really like them I’m more accurate with a long gun and I think if I actually like need need to use my secondary I either had really bad aim or I have like a lot more problems than I needed at the time in my life lol.

I'm a huge advocate for Magpul furniture as well. I have it on both my 870 Tactical and 590A1. Plus their barrel clamps and slings. I don't have a side saddle or those Velcro cards that you can slap on though I do have a shell holder that straps to the stock. I sort of have to do a violin hold on it to reload but it works... sort of. I should probably upgrade.

I learned so much when i did my NRA LE certification. Within 100 yards, this is your most devastating platform. Most of the "weaknesses" can be attributed to user lack of knowledge or skill. You have to keep the beast fed. If you run out, then you need to get comfortable with single shot loads from the top and bottom of the port load.. When you have two proficient operators, all you hear is BOOM 💥, BOOM 💥 BOOM 💥, BOOM 💥 . The beast is an amazing platform that deserves a serious part of any modern warrior's training.

I suppose it depends on the application. If you are going to war then the shotty probably doesn't make sense but for a home invasion 5 to 7 rounds of buckshot will probably handle the situation. After all each round of buckshot is equal to a Makarov mag dump.
Be ready to top up or do emergency port load of course but after two or three get riddled with buckshot odds are good that things are turning your way.
Having a backup handgun wouldn't hurt.

I think these guys did fine. It’s a great drill to run because the pump action 12 is the most common gun in the west. Definitely worth running these drills. Though I’m more a fan of the Winchester SXP speed slide just for that extra bit of firing speed without the downside of the slam fire. Don’t get me wrong I’ve yet to see an 870 or a 590 fail under duress. There’s a reason they’re so popular. But my personal preference is for the Winchester 1300/SXP.

@@TacticalResponseCrew that makes perfect sense. I ought prove I’ve got my chops beforehand. Besides, no one can EVER have too much pistol training!
I’ve got a few questions, so I’ll give you a call...

Sorry to hear about Yeager. It was a surprise indeed. He would have made an excellent crusty old great grandpa. I liked the pure workout in the video flushing out gear and skills although my use case is way smaller scale.

I wonder how many non-LEO guys who tacticool their shotguns and go through special training like this ever need to actually use either.

Yup, gotta get down south and take a shotgun class. I’ll have to pick up a magpul stock for my home defense 870. Didn’t know there was a length of pull difference. Hope the speech issue gets sorted out soon for you.

Nice vid. Displays the limitations of non-magazine fed weapons. Is there a mag loaded shotgun that you have seen run well enough to consider for a fighting long gun James?

Dumb question was the sling preventing shooting left handed? I think that's what you meant at the end sling around your neck. Did similar drills with moss berg shotgun in Navy.

They need to run this drill about 100 more times..
U can see their Clearly not smooth and polished with their techniques.. however, this is a really cool video, and it's a good Drill
I did a very, very similar one in the Marine Corps about 35 years ago.
    And R.I.P. to James Yeager.
He loved his craft and he was loved by many.

I love my Stevens 320 Tactical. I have my carrier set up with plenty of shells readily available on card then a few pouches with shells for reloads with a little more time available. Definitely love this drill. Practice males perfect

Need to / will do Way of the shotgun at tactical response! Thanks y’all for the video!

I’ve installed a Hogue overmold 12” LoP stock and Streamlight TL-Racker forend on my HD 500, need to get a side saddle and sling. I do wish it was an 18” or shorter barrel as opposed to the 20”. Chris Baker at LuckyGunner has a 14.5” 870 with the MagPul stocks that looks like the ideal HD shotty.

I just put a tl racker on my shockwave and love it. The buttons are perfect and won't accidently be hit. I had to put an sbm4 brace on it so it wasn't worthless. I would look into the velcro side saddles though. They are much less expensive and you can rip off the empty and slap on a loaded one. I have a bunch all filled with different loads for different situations.

A pump shotgun is the most effective firearm available to people in my country,if we count ammo and training availability. Handguns allow too few ammo to have, rifles have too limited magazines, and long range shooting is something that is possible only in certain ranges,so precision rifle are out too.
