Altered Beast is a 1988 beat 'em up arcade video game developed and published by Sega. The game is set in Ancient Greece and follows a player character chosen by Zeus to rescue his daughter Athena from the demonic ruler of the underworld, Neff. By collecting three power-ups in a level, the player character transforms into one of five magical beasts. It was ported to several home video game consoles and home computers. Altered Beast was the pack-in game when the Genesis launched in North America and the Mega Drive in Europe.
This was an amazing 80s short quarter-munching game that get better playing with a friend or date. This game plus Golden Axe, Bad Dudes, Double Dragon were the some of the highlights of the 80s.

At 44 years old, I still hear: "Wise fum yoor gwave" (Genesis audio version) when I'm super tired and really don't want to get up. Also "power up" when I get some McDonalds later in the day.
@@Cruor34 I'm 51 and I still love good video games but I really wish they bring back some of those Genesis games that even until now to me there the best games I played one of them of so many is Altered Beast
I'm 43, this was the first game to make me rage quit 🤣. I miss old school gaming, especially beat 'em ups. I use "welcome to your doom" if my wife goes to the bathroom after me.
One of the ultimate staples of my childhood from back then! I definitely remember this arcade game and playing it as well.
anybody who does recognize the video arcade is not ole school at all. these were the best times in video arcades

We had this, Golden Axe and Shinobi at our local bowling alley when I was 7. I can still smell the cigarette smoke that hung like a fog in that place. Good times playing classic arcade titles while being subjected to secondhand smoke.
Kinda sad that places like that don't have arcade games now.

I will never forget…I turned on my sega one Friday night (I’m a kid, it’s the weekend..nothing but fun to be had). We used to try to enter in codes randomly to see what happened, and this was the one and only time a random code worked. I heard the noise that it was successful and I did NOT turn my sega off for days. I can’t even remember what the code did, but it was a memorable moment

The first game I beat in the arcade as a kid. What an accomplishment for me at the time. Still play it at home on the Genesis and Switch to this day. What a cool concept this game is.😎

So when I first met this game, my mom bought it for Genesis first and we had enjoyed it tons. I've never seen it before as an arcade game or cabinet till it was brought to my feed today. Still looks good!
I was 8 or 9 years old when my friend down the street got this game for the Sega Master System. It was so cool to play this when all I had was an NES.

Dude when I was a kid somewhere in Kansas from Gardiner through Olathe... I played this on arcade! I have so much fun playing this as a kid back when we used to actually drive somewhere to play the game but thanks to the Internet it's all changed... I remember my mom drove me a town over just so I play mortal Kombat 2 on arcade.. it wasn't in the newspaper or anything friends would spread the word and we go there and see it for ourselves rather through social media or any video of someone showvoting..😁'80s/90s kids will know what I'm at least referring to nowadays it's not the same anymore most people don't understand but they seem to get it through videos nowadays but they will never truly understand everyone's dependent on so much technology now it almost consumes us or rather it controls us but we do not control it it consumes so many people....
My son and I still play this damn game and to this day we have still never beaten it! The damn Ant level usually gets us. We made it to the final stage once, but got immediately destroyed.
NGL, never seen Altered Beast past stage one. Didn't know you could become a dragon, bear, tiger, and SSJ werewolf at end. Game really predates stuff like Animorphs and Bloody Roar with animal transformations!

They call this game Juuouki in Japan, the arcade version is very little known when compared to the Genesis. It is better for sure, but the audio and gameplay on the Genesis is surreally good, even today.
Ahh the memories in the smoke filled arcades then I got it for the Genesis when it came out.

@@bujindork i never got by the 3rd stage either as a kid. Once my quarters ran out from the two bucks i got from my mom or dad it was all over. But it was cool because you knew you’d be back for more at a later date haha

I can see how Capcom and others got the inspiration from the new graphic breakthrough layout and gameplay.
I know that when I’ve had to fight oversized wolves and ghouls in my day to day a slightly irritate but half-hearted kick to the shin usually does the trick. 👍🏼

Este jogo é estranhamente bom, fiquei um pouco decepcionado por ter acabado tão rápido logo quando estava gostando. Mas depois troquei por outro jogo que conseguiu me satisfazer completamente, era longo, difícil e jogabilidade muito fluida, streets of range 3. Meu favorito.

To think we used to pay $50 for a game that took 15 minutes to complete. These gamers today complain about paying $70 for games that take at least 100 hours to complete.
