Great video. But I think you missed the SEGA CD port of The Secret of Monkey Island. You're not missing much. It's a slow port. Nice CD music tho. It also had a Japanese release, so you could make an addendum if you ever tackle the Japanese Sega CD games.
It's one of the worst ports of Monkey Island imho. Not only is it slow, but it is also dark as hell for some reason. And half the locations are without any music. Idk what happened, it was ported very poorly.
@@kosmosyche Looking at the credits it was ported by 2 veteran Lucasarts members. One of them even being the co-creator of the SCUMM engine. @@gabrielgoncalves2763 Lol that is kind of true. I mean there are more good games than that but yeah I get your point. I was just preparing an SD for MISTer - I watched another A-Z for SegaCD but, your insights mean I need to go back & redo it. - Could you do an "Every Super Nintendo game" episode? - thats gonna be a long video.
You made the right call at the end. I love the Sega CD. I always wanted one since it came out. I didn't finally get one until 6-7 years ago. I only have a small collection, but it's quality stuff: Dune, Vay, Lunar 1 and 2, and Shining Force CD. I was able to get them when prices were still reasonable. With the exception of Dune, what I paid for all of them combined wouldn't equal what one of them costs now. Wish I had grabbed some others when I had the chance to get them for much less than they go for now like The Terminator. Some of these I've seen around but didn't know anything about them but will have to see what they cost these days. If it isn't too crazy I might might add some more games to my collection. Battlecorps and RDF: Global Conflict look like games I'd have fun with, and Bari Arm looks pretty cool.
My favorite Sega CD game...Soulstar was great. Road Rash was pretty sweet. Silpheed blew our minds back when it hit. I don't know Joe, I loved my Sega CD quite a bit when I got it Christmas of 1992 and I enjoyed it immensely throughout its life. That first year of owning one made me feel like I was experiencing something truly special as no one else I knew had one. Very sweet add-on. What a fantastic channel! Addendum- I thought you said this was in alphabetical order? You showed a title I have never seen before in AX-101...but shouldn't Afterburner 3 come before it? I'm so confused by your order with some of these Joe. It's still a great video and an enormous undertaking. Thank you for doing this man. Bonus- The 1-800-USA-SEGA number still works too this day. As funny as Joe's joke is I think it would have been even funnier if he actually called them and asked for a Sega Genesis/Sega CD repair.
Disappointing, yet again. Joe, you forgot all the Sega CD games that start with the letters O, Q, X, Y, and Z. You need to do a bonus episode on all of those.
Fantastic video, though, I feel you were unfair to Hook. The controls may take some getting used to, but I always found them to be precise and the weightlessness of Peter Pan to be intentional. Honestly, it feels refreshing when most platform action games make your character so heavy. Lastly, this game was developed by Ukiyotei! They made the underrated Skyblazer for SNES and went on to develop classic games for SNK! At least you mentioned the great graphics and phenomenal music selection for the CD version. The Genesis and SNES versions of this game are also fantastic.

The exciting video of Bill Walsh killed me. Only ever played a few of these growing up, so it's nice to check the others out. Thanks for making another great video, Joe!
58:28 - Sounds like you may have been playing Sewer Shark the wrong way - You get your turns called out to you in advance, and the top of the screen tells you which direction turn is coming up next. For example, Catfish will call out "Three, Six, Niner" that means Right (3 O'Clock), Down (6 O'Clock), Left (9 O'Clock). You choose which turns you make when you see it on the HUD at the top of your screen; waiting until you see it on the FMV will be too late to make the turn.
Great video, not too long like many, decent job of representing a very underrated CD add on. And copies can be made 1:1 as SEGA CD had zero encryption!
This video broke every one of my nostalgia bones. I used to love the Sega CD and I was surprised how much of the catalog I owned at one point, at least 70% of it. Some of the soundtracks are still in my regular rotation (notably Spiderman, Terminator, and Silpheed). And you're not the only craving a remake of the SCD specific version of Road Avenger.
Your coverage of Night Trap in this video was excellent! You said what needed to be said. How many times have gamers suffered because of their underhanded ways? I wonder...would Dave go insta agro on you Joe had he been with you? ;) Addendum- Wing Commander on the Sega CD was a great game but it really should have been released on the Genesis. The only thing standing in its way was it's lack of hardware scaling. Thankfully, scaling can be achieved on the Genesis by utilizing software solutions. Many developers did this too great effect.
Awesome video, what a huge effort! Sega cd back then was so unobtainable (specifically in Brazil) that seeing all these games seams unreal! Very satisfying! Thank you Gamesack team !
In the demo version of Keio Flying Squadron they accidentally left the level select code in so you can actually play the full game from the demo version. It's a much cheaper alternative than buying the actual game.
Oh shit, the whole library! I missed out on all the good titles outside of Silpheed back in the day. Fun fact, those “good graphics” in the backgrounds of Silpheed are just pre rendered FMV’s! Neat trick.

Try thimbleweed park, it's a newer release that plays homage to the older text adventures. It's more point and click but not unlike full throttle or grim fandango but it's got a level of charm and charisma unlike any other games.
Thanks for the GREAT Sega CD games review!
I love many of the Sega CD games and play them mostly on the Mega Everdrive Pro and Fusion emulator.
My favorites include Android Assault, NHL '94, Silpheed, Road Avenger, Cobra Command, Snatcher, Terminator, Sonic CD, Robo Aleste, Road Rash, Lords of Thunder, Keio Flying Squadron, Batman Returns, Shining Force CD, and Popful Mail.
The 4 in 1 sega classics also came as a double CD pack with sherlock holmes for LaserActive
That’s the copy I have I think
@@matthewnikitas8905Yeah it's the one I have too. Awesome pack in, I have a soft spot for the sherlock games.
The best start in the day is a new video from Game Sack !
They had the right people making it, so my guess is it was either the port was rushed or Lucasarts only let them port over the Amiga version which may have been too much for the SEGA CD.
I was wondering where it was and now it's good to see I'm not imaging it. Lol. I was hoping it was in this video but I'm not so fussed now
@@kosmosyche It was a programming error, there is a hack to fix it. Back to the Future also has a similar issue caused by a different programming error.
@@turbinegraphics16 Such a weird type of programming error, if you ask me. It's not like you need to QA the game for hours to see it. lol I mean you just run it and basically immediately see that it's too freaking dark. Idk, how could anyone miss that, unless they didn't care at all.
Another great video and on one of my favorite platforms! Thank you so much for your consistent quality in your videos. I've meant to ask you because I've heard you comment on it before exactly what store did you buy games from that allowed you to return them for a full refund after being opened? I have never seen a store that allowed you return an open video game
Thunderhawk is still an all time favourite for me. So much so that I'm collecting all the thunderhawk versions. Latest is Operation Phoenix
You didnt get the links controls at all.
Hold the button to set the meter going, let go when the bar has reached the power level you want. The bar then swings back down to the bottom to derive the accuracy that you'll give the shot. Just try to hit it dead on the 6 o'clock position.
So hold, let go, tap at bottom
lol, that ending skit is so true. Apparently many of those old hotlines have been bought up by those 'adult' phone companies after they got dropped by the original owners of the number.
1 hour 18 minutes of new Game Sack. Thanks Joe!
I have definitely become a fan of SEGA in retrospect, largely due to Joe. Keep up the quality content, you marvelous gem of a man.
Great video! I love F1 Beyond the Limit. It definitely takes getting used to. But I can play it fine now and the license really is so well used.
It is indeed a very good f1 simulation for its time and still very playable imo
Great video Joe thank you! This series where you tackle every game on a system have to be a pain to make, but so good!. I had a Sega CD back in the day but lived in a small town. Since there was no real internet, I have never heard of about 1/3 of these games.
Sonic CD, Snatcher , Silpheed , Shining Force CD, Lethal Enforcers and Sewer Shark are my favorite Sega CD titles
You forgot Popful Mail! :)
Are the main stream
Not very difficult to have a bunch of favorites when theres like 10 games on the entire library that isnt complete dogshit.
@@gabrielgoncalves2763 Lol that is kind of true. I mean there are more good games than that but yeah I get your point. The library isn't that big to begin with, but the cool thing about it is there are some very solid titles and most of them are Sega CD exclusive, never been released anywhere else. Makes the system feel unique & special.
@@gabrielgoncalves2763 I can easily name 40 excellent sega cd games
This is a Sega Cd video i was always looking for and finally Game Sack made it. I love Sega Cd and still play it since i got it back in 1993. Dracula and Iron Helix were one of my favorite games on the system and i have most of the games for the system. I always go back to Dracula even though people hate it.
I thought the Secret of Monkey Island was on the Sega CD. Did he forget it?
A/X-101 is missing too
@@pattersonkeiththat's literally the second one

You'd think the Jeopardy writers would know there's no apostrophe in 1950s. Maybe they got their B team to do the game.
With that ending, I actually wouldn't be surprised if the helpline number is used for something else.
Call it!
@@GameSack I would but it would be an international call. I live in the UK.
@@jamiewilliamson9829 how does calling work over there? Here all we have to do is dial any number in the world and it will call it 🤔
@@greenkoopa But I wouldn't want international charges, would I?
@@GameSack I think the video overloaded their systems, an automated voice says that it's busy and to call back later.
I like the way you did the transitions between each game. It flows really well that way when you are doing the shorter reviews.
The Sega Cd, Great system. I actually loved all the Fmv games from
Digital Pictures, I thought they were great!
Really enjoyed this video, the Mega-CD was possibly my favourite time in gaming. I sunk so many hours into Dune trying to terraform Arrakis to see what would happen. But so many of these games gave me so much joy, so it was soo cool seeing them again in this video!
Nice. First cd anything I ever owned. Bought my first cd to listen on it.
me too the model 2 was my first audio cd player.
@@maxxdahl6062 do you happen to remember the first cd you bought? Mine was dangerous by Michael Jackson.
@@ssaunders1122 I want to say it was the misfits collection 1 but not 100% sure.
This video is simply awesome, an amazing work, as always. I think there is only one omission, i couldn't find The Secret of Monkey Island. I'm sure it was released in USA. Apart from that, it's really outstanding
Am I missing something or did you forget to Include the Sega Cd Version of The secret of Monkey island?
Coury : "You still don't have Sega CD?!" (Heavy breathing)
Joe : "I...kinda do." (Pointing at complete NA Sega CD collection in the background)
“I wasn’t really into Power Rangers” yeah sure Joe.
Great work on this. Amazing way to preserve gaming history also.
Nice video, thanks. But why no mention of the secret of monkey Island? I first played that game on my sega cd. It was available in Canada, certainly the US too?
Noticed that too. Oh well, minor oversight.
@@aaronw6685 Obviously not released in the us
Obviously not released in the us
@@jbfarley Released December of 1993 in the US.
@@aaronw6685 can't find any evidence of that whatsoever when I try to look that up
Great video guys. Obviously a lot of work went into it. It’s much appreciated.
I think you missed one game.... The Secret of Monkey Island
So its every game but one. lol
Still great video on Sega CD games.
Obviously not released in the us
Lots of Sega CD (Mega CD to me) that i didn’t know about!
Great video Joe 👍
It's games like Keio that makes sailing the high seas a worthwhile option.
I was just preparing an SD for MISTer - I watched another A-Z for SegaCD but, your insights mean I need to go back & redo it. - Could you do an "Every Super Nintendo game" episode? - thats gonna be a long video.
How about a show about all the 3do games that have been released in the US. I'm sure there are some good FMVs in there. 😂
And even better the philips cdi
I unironically really like the 3DO and want this to happen.
Dude your commentary and humor in this video is extremely funny. Love the tone and honesty.
Too bad we didn't get a Sega CD mini instead of the Genesis 2.
@@videostash413 I know but I would've wanted a Sega CD mini with at least their best 30-40 games.
Aw, seeing the Batman Animated Series game is just making me sad now. RIP Kevin Conroy, man.
Damn it!
Did I miss Monkey Island? Or did you miss Monkey Island?
never released in NA, obviously
@@jbfarley My answer got removed? Well, mister, it was released in North America, Japan and Europe. I did put a link for an ad for an North American copy that is for sale, so you could see it with your own eyeballs, but maybe that`s why the comment got removed..
@@TwoBlackMarks an ad is not a source, fake games are sold constantly. You need an actual source. All my research never showed it ever being released in NA
@@jbfarley Maybe an Ad is not the correct word. It was an link to an listing on eBay for sale, there are several US, Japan and Europe versions for sale, AND the rerelease of course...
You sir have presented us with quite a large Sack to digest.
Garbage. It’s too bad the system itself looks so awesome. I keep my gen1 Sega cd under my gen1 genesis, but it never gets played. The games are mostly all trash… as you’ve showcased so nicely for us here.
I stayed up to watch this episode! Amazing!
Most of these games did not age well.. Lol
agreed
“Sega CD special features. “ lol! ;)
Thanks for showing all of these! Man, am I ever glad we moved past FMV as a species.
That are quite a few interesting games for the Sega CD that I didn't know about. Thank you for this
Great video, not too long like many, decent job of representing a very underrated CD add on. And copies can be made 1:1 as SEGA CD had zero encryption!
Thank you so much for keeping gamesack going. You’re the king.
I wonder...would Dave go insta agro on you Joe had he been with you? ;)
Addendum- Wing Commander on the Sega CD was a great game but it really should have been released on the Genesis.
Yes, both Ecco OST are absolute god-tier!🥳 Spencer Nilsen did a great job of capturing that eerie feeling of the depths.
In the demo version of Keio Flying Squadron they accidentally left the level select code in so you can actually play the full game from the demo version. It's a much cheaper alternative than buying the actual game.
Bless you Joe for your dedication and craft.
Love this long form content, thanks Joe. Possible collaboration with shmupjunkie? *Nudge and elbow* could be good stuff?
A couple months ago I learned about the great games on Sega CD thanks to my hacked WiiU. It plays Sega CD through retroarch flawlessly.
Oh shit, the whole library! I missed out on all the good titles outside of Silpheed back in the day. Fun fact, those “good graphics” in the backgrounds of Silpheed are just pre rendered FMV’s! Neat trick.
Amazing episode, what a great channel. The whole library! Over an hour! Thanks Joe
8:24 Something about this music reminds me of the music in HOTEL MARIO (for the Philips CD-i).. Same synth sound effect?
