Still remember the DAY this came out in the arcade... the large sprites were mind-blowing... the transformation was crazy... golden memories
The beast transformation is what hooked me on the arcade game initially :-)
yeah. i was blown away by the beautiful graphics.
OMG, there is talking in the game😱
The soundtrack to the first stage is still one of my favorite game soundtracks ever. Rise from your grave! :-D
@@arifhenriksvensson7302 yeah. also the beast mode and boss music always get me all pumped up LOL.
This was the first game I played on the Genesis. I used to love it. The arcade version was a "quarter muncher" but I never felt it was cheap like a lot of other Arcade games. You got your moneys worth from a quarter.
This was the first game I played on the Genesis as well :-)
Its a good game,I think platinum games should create a new version, probably add weapon use body armour. The way the fighting would be could definitely work.
Haha is was my first Genesis game I played too, was so blown away by the graphics at the time. The game still holds a special place imho.
I believe this came with my Genesis I didn't get Sonic the Hedgehog with mine I seem to remember this was the inclusion game
Altered Beast was in our local snackbar when i was very very young. So to me it will always have that nostalgic touch. Power up!
I couldn't of said it better myself. Rise from Your grave :-)
Like your chill, laidback style. Altered Beast is one of those childhood classics that will never grow old ✌
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed my presentation :-)
also the other arcade classic created by brand 'data east' - Mutant fighters', was my childhood favour.

That is true I can't get enough of that game I'm happy I have Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for my PS3 so I can play the Sega Genesis and Arcade version of Altered Beast
Stella was Alex Kidd's girlfriend in the Alex Kidd: Lost Stars arcade game. It's also a name of one of their game engines, so not sure which Stella it's refering to.
But the MD port was apparantly made in less than eight weeks, and in tandem witht he arcade machine, so Sega could have created it as a showpiece for the console. "look how arcade perfect it is!" Etc.
I have read conflicting reports about which Stella is referring to. Since Stella was Alex's girlfriend people say it's her name on the tombstone so who knows
That's how I call my mother in law when she's mad: The Altered Beast.
LOL
It's what I call Bruce Jenner.
Jajajajajajajaj good one!
Power up!
Lol
"Rise from your grave!" Dammit, I can barely rise from my bed.
LOLThat line is forever ingrained in my memory
Not a Sega fan at all, but damn I loved this game!
Well then.....
WELCOME TO YOUR DOOM!
I'm really enjoying your videos. So many memories. You've got really good pacing, video length, and just the right amount of quirky humor. Keep them coming!
Thank you very much,Glad you enjoy my content so much
Keep yourself safe in these crazy times my video game brother. Best wishes from your friends in the UK.
👍
Here! Here!
Hope you're coping Ok @buck3366?
Fingers crossed you are able to lay your hands on some loo roll, milk and hand sanitizer?!
The country has gone absolutely mad, hasn't it?!!
All the best mate, stay safe 👍
You as well Buck, stay safe. Thank you
My very first Sega Genesis/Megadrive game that I own and still have my original Altered Beast cartridge to this very day. The Arcade version was crisp and clean with clear animations which was a bit ahead of its time. The character transformation screen is still nostalgic and unbelievable!!
That's what pulled me into the game were the character transformations.
Yes, it was the launch game on the Megadrive and was a very close conversation.
Discovered your vids recently, LOVE EM! Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for the nice words
When I was a little little kid and my older brother and cousins would play this on sega, I would always hide under a bed when the intro played. I hated that shit back then lulz.
In these strange times, I’m looking forward to each new video. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for the nice words. Glad you enjoy the content
Greatest ending to a video game ever, also one of the best channels on RUclips. Thank you.
That is high praise indeed, thank you very much :-)
Your channel is absolutely incredible! I love how you use a lot of retro gifs and animations to complete the effect. Nobody is as detailed as you are in your analysis of each game. Keep 'em coming!
Thank you so much 😀
I forgot to mention the fact that, you create your videos in such a way that it actually feels like the viewer is back in that time when the game came out. I'm willing to bet I'm not the only one who feels that way. Was that your goal in creating the videos? If so, you nailed it!
I like how both this game and Golden Axe broke the fourth wall in the credits. The two games also shared one of the enemies, that weird purple birdy thing you can also ride in Golden Axe. So we can easyly suppose that Golden Axe and Altered Beast happened in the same universe.
Absolutely I always thought that was a cool touch
Ty for the upload friend!
Thank you for watching :-)
The love you get from the comments are well-deserved! I enjoy every video of yours that I watch.
That's awesome of you to say, thank you so much

Thanks Pat.
In strange times like now, it's nice to have some new content to watch even though your job of posting videos isn't "essential" in the grand scheme of things.... But to us, It's essential to keeping a bit of normalcy in the world and our time being trapped within our homes
Thank you..
We appreciate it!

That's very nice of you, thank you for watching :-)
I am old now and remember when this was just top of the line and the graphics were unheard of. Even now though the game is a beautiful piece of work. This channel is easily one or my favorites hands down!
Absolutely, the graphics were top-notch back in 1989. Thanks for the nice words :-)
I never get tired of watching these arcade histories. Thanks.
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed them
Excellent video, I've been playing this game for decades and I thought I knew everything about it, looking forward to you other videos.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks
Dude I've watched like four of your vids now and I love your stuff. So good.

Great game ! Still play it from time to time. Great video as always.
Thank you very much, I still play with my son
Take a peek, if you would dare.
Half made of man, half of bear.
He came from underneath.
I met an Altered Beast.
-King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
LOL, very cool
OMG! This game, I played it on the sega genesis as a kid. I remember almost everything about it for some reason and as an adult I don't quite get why I liked it so much. hahaha
EDIT: Wow, I had no idea there were so many version of this thing, and even modern ones. I am very surprised.
Seen your video in recommended & im glad i clicked it. Great video
Thank you very much, please subscribe if you like my content
I luv ya video game history vids. Keep them coming man
Thank you very much
The new transformations that were in the GBA and PS2 Altered Beast/Juuouki stand alone games were actually from the FDS/NES port of the game, @PatmanQC - History of arcade game documentaries.
Hey Pat, it's me Mega Drive Bowlsey from Sega 16. You know how much I love your work, and look forward to every upload. Keep up the awesome work! :)

This is by far the funniest comment I've seen since quarantine started
Thank you for this video! I loved it! Altered Beast holds a special place in my gamer heart. I played at my best friends house as a kid and as soon as I could get it for myself I was addicted to it. I still play it but mostly on my switch. Great work.
Thank you so much for the nice words. I always enjoy the game as well
I think your video is pretty cool and very educational on Ultra beasts and never knew they made all those different ports thanks again
Highly underrated video game
The “Thor Ragnarok” poster totally ripped it off the cabinet artwork. I remember making a twitter post about it, the second I saw it.
Excellent, good eyeballs
It’s more like an homage, since the poster and the movie itself has a lot of references to 80s aesthetics.
It looks the same but the chances of a company that makes many movies having a cover that's the characters on top of each other rather than side by side is extremely likely
Another awesome video! Take care and be safe out there, Sir.
Thank you very much. You stay safe as well my friend
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries Thank you very much, Sir.
Great job on this. Really brought back memories with those sounds

I love your videos! Keep at it.
Thank you
Another great video! I remember going to duck creek mall, heading to shoe carnival and they had one of these in the back. Was one of my favorite games.
Wow, the old shoe Carnival at Duck Creek. I remember it well. Was in the arcade located near the store?
PatmanQC - History of arcade game documentaries no, no arcade. They might’ve had two games, but I believe it was just the one altered beast machine in the back. I was into shoes as a kid, but whenever we went there I’d take just a minute or two to look at shoes, then id head to the back and play as many games as Moms change would allow.
I recently bought a Japanese PS2, so maybe I'll nab the Japanese version of Project Altered Beast if it's so cheap. Though honestly, I wish Sega would take another crack at it. I know few people associate Relic or Creative Assembly with beat'em ups, but both have made some awesome hidden gems in the genre. CA's made Spartan and Viking Total Warrior, and Relic's made the super well-loved Warhammer Space Marine. Now that they're owned by Sega, it would be pretty nice to see one of them do something with Altered Beast when they need another break from Strategy games... and the other studio can try making a new Golden Axe ;)
Great vid! I even learned some new fun facts about this one :D I'm also glad you were so thorough about it; not enough people seem to know about THQ's Guardians of the Realm for the GBA, but I loved that game back in the day. That was one of those remakes/sequels that felt like how you _remember_ the original game to be.
I'm sure at some point Sega will dust off this IP and try again. There is too much rich history there for them not to.
Thank you for the nice words, I try to be as thorough as possible in my videos and dig up what little known facts I can.
I remember playing this in a carryout before I new it the sun was down. I took the short cut home through the woods to get home faster. Man I was freaked out the whole way home lol good times.
LOL, that's hilarious thanks for sharing
What's a carry out?
@@oa8945 carryout is like a corner store with everything from candy to smokes.
This is the first video yours I'm seeing. Great work. You have a new fan!

"You will collect a spirit ball"
Ah correction.... that's a Steroid ball.... Look at those quick gains.....
LOL
I love this channel!! Me and my 2 older brothers got this game on the Sega Gensis and mastered it. I remember we knew all the boss patterns and everything lol.
Excellent, glad to enjoy my content so much :-)
Great video, I have amazing memories playing this game at an Optimo Cigar Store in Astoria Queens, and later on my Sega Genesis, amazing pack in game, made me forget about the Coronavirus lockdown in NYC. This made me want to return to making videos on my channel, thanks dude!
If my stupid little jokes can make everyone forget about what's going on for a few minutes then I'm all for it. Thanks :-)
When I bought the Sega Genesis back in 1991 it came with Altered Beast and Tommy Lasorda Baseball in a game bundle. Later on I got Golden Axe and ESWAT. Everybody had Super Nintendo back then and most of my friends went home to play the Genesis.
Most of my friends and super Nintendo's as well
Is that some fresh PatmanQC? HOOK IT INTO MY VEINS! oooh yeah that's good nostalgia!
LOL, thank you very much
I'm glad to discover your chanel! Great content! Keep up the good work!
Thank you very much, welcome aboard
Amazing! I didn't know there were so many ports of this beloved game. My first game on SEGA Mega Drive. These monsters morphing cutscenes blew my mind at the time I was just 8yo. Good job!
Thank you, that's exactly what drew me into the arcade version or the beast transformations
The single reason I bought a sega genesis
Alpha Same. This and Shinobi were must haves.
AbsolutelyAgree 100%
My Genesis came with the game so I was covered :-)
Also Golden Axe
I remember a kid on the bus saying he was going to play it when he got home on his Genesis. I was envious as my most modern game console at the time was the NES. It took me a while but I got the Genesis. Most of my friends had the SNES. I have no regrets.
I think the wolf howl sound effect is from American Werewolf in London
Yes it is
That SID chip is just so damn awesome
I'm glad you did this one!!!!
Thank you hope you enjoy it
As much money I spent on this game I could have probably bought a car
In an alternate dimension your doppelganger walks into a car dealership and hands the dealer pillow cases full of quarters,
...leaves the car dealership with car but empty in his soul, as if he was missing something in his life.
You made the right decision.
LOL, so could I
@@dsandoval9396 You have also bought the original arcade cabinet. With quarters.😎
Man what an insanely well documented documentary! 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!Thank you so much
Thank you for making this. I played this game for hours as a kid
I have been playing videogames since 1978 and I have never seen a worse frame rate than in the Amistrad version of this game. I can't believe it actually made it to retail.
Love your videos. Keep 'em coming!!
Thank you. There are just some games that shouldn't even be converted. Take a look at hard-drivin for the Commodore 64. Publishing companies will see dollar signs and that's all it takes. They will put out a box of crap if they think it will sell
Oh hell yeah!!
Thank you :-)
The MSX and ZX Spectrum versions look about the same to me, I don't get why you said one was crap but praised the other...
I feel like the gameplay sample on the msx and spectrum were the same clip, though, as the spectrum speed looked to be just as unplayable as the msx.
duke n agreed, i dont think the colours were right for the zx, and it appears to be an identical clip to the msx. That said, in sure the zx version will be similarly bad
My favorite version is the one on the Sega 3D Classics Collection for the 3ds. Congratulation for your channel, it grows so fast.
I have not got to try that on a real 3Ds yet. Thanks for the nice words, let you enjoy my channel

talk about Legacy of kain series
Everyone on the planet needs to talk abt that series. So fucking awesome
He covers arcade games
Is the wolf in the nintendo version doing a hadoken?
It sure looks like it and this was before streetfighter came out
It definitely looks like he's using both hands to throw it.
Another great video!

so glad i found about this channel, Patman is the best boomer
Fantastic,Thank you for watching. I appreciate the nice words
why the fuck is this reccomended in ices chanel
A lot of my friends kept this game on there Sega Genesis because of how much I played it while yelling out...Wolf Man Has Nards! When they play it now a days, they yell this out as well. Ha-Ha! That kick was epic in the game! Even watching Americas Funniest Home Videos makes me think about this game & I have to play it! This game just kicks my Nostalgia in all the right places!

Thanks for posting I had no idea that this game had so many versions a very interesting video . I have the mega drive version. Cheers!
Thank you for watching, glad you like the content :-)
Great commentary!
Excellent, glad you enjoyed it
These games themselves are old (as am I) but your videos make me feel young!
I remember being tremendously drawn to this game as a kid, mostly because those arcade graphics were ahead of the other arcade games of the time, and the whole setting was - and is - very attractive to me. Funnily enough, I just happen to love the NES version, even though it has all those shortcomings. I enjoyed the extra stages - they were not just recycled sprites and backgrounds - as well as the extra beasts you could play with. I specially loved the shark and the stage boss of the sea stage, that gigantic octopus. It was so awesome! To top it off, it even has a very cool animated ending, which includes Zeus himself! How cool is that? Nice video, thanks for the info!
I never actually Beat the NES version so I was not aware of that. Thanks for the info and the nice words
This was very entertaining. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you
