- Many shy cats that we find outside aren’t feral. Some have been out there so long they’ve pretty much just shut down.
I suspected that this was not a feral cat - he didn’t seem scared - just, traumatized. This is an abandoned cat that once had a home.
Foster volunteers don’t just give cats a place to stay. They help them heal, in so many different ways.
They teach cats what it feels like to love and be loved.

I don't get it when people abandon their pets. My cat died 2 years ago and his death affected the whole family. We now fondly talk about him in remembrance like we would talk about a deceased family member because he really was a part of our family.

@@debsn7772 In fairness to landlords, pets --- or, perhaps better stated, pet owners --- can sometimes bring certain issues. It's not that most landlords dislike pets, but their first priority is on maintaining their asset or investment. Once you stop and think about this from a landlord's perspective, you won't really have to struggle with why landlords "feel justified" in not allowing tenants to have pets.
Chuck definitely trusts his foster mother, allowing the belly to be cuddled while snurgling....

It took a while to get him there! He was very skittish at first but now he's a total love bug! He has been adopted by an amazing person, but I still get to see him sometimes!

I adopted a cat just like Chuck three months ago and it has been a total joy to see him learn to be an indoor cat and appreciate the finer things in life. I am constantly amazed by the resilience of animals. Thank you for giving Chuck a second chance!
No, thank YOU for taking in your new fuzz-buddy! If everyone takes a moment to be kind, we can (maybe?) help undo the damage done by the unfeeling, uncaring or maybe - just plain ignorant who treat pets like bic-lighters to be used then discarded.

We feed an abandoned cat, and house him during the winter (luckily in Cali, so not as cold as NY). His family moved and left him, he was a neighborhood fixture. After about a year, we are able to give him rubies and brushes, but he's still quite wary if you try and hold him, so we just give and take what he allows. He recently exposed his belly!
Thank you for your kindness. I just took in two abandoned cats, and, there are several more that I feed. It's so painful to see them struggle to survive. I do what I can, but, it never feels like enough. Anyway, people like you give me hope.

Every animal I have had in my 55 years on this planet. I have been there forever home. I have even been homeless because I will not let go of what I feel is a family member. Recently, I am just brought home a dog that has been rejected by two families in her four short years. She is in a forever home. Let hell freeze over! I would still not let her go.

It takes a special kind of callousness to just abandon an animal that you're responsible for. Some people are utterly heartless, and do not deserve the love that a pet has to give.
What a lovely commentary about Chuck. 'He had been badly let down'! What a sad thing that is, but he was rescued, and loved, and found a new forever home, where he regained his trust in humans and had a happy life thereafter.😊🧡🤸

We're fostering a cute lively cat who was abandoned by his family when they moved but because some of the neighbours took care of him as he lived outdoors he kept his love for humans and now we're just waiting to find his forever family! I'm glad Chuck got the care he needed and found love again

A couple of years ago I also adopted an abandoned cat. His family moved away and they didn't care about taking him with them because he was "mean". It took us month to gain his trust and the first visit to the vet was a nightmare. During the winter was the first time we let him in the house and he was like a different cat. We only had him for 1 1/2 years, because he had bad kidney problems, but he spent his last years with lots of love and cuddles. It was an amazing to see how a scared and "mean" cat can become the biggest cuddler. I hope all cats find a great and loving home, because all cats deserve love. ❤️

Chuck's betrayal breaks my heart. I expect some cats will avoid this if guardians can afford vet care but I fear some will be abandoned even if they are spayed/neutered because they are often seen as disposable due to the wrongheaded belief that cats can fend for themselves. Thank you for taking him in Flatbush Cats and to his foster for helping Chuck work through his PTSD. This is why I support your work financially. 🐱
I love that you talked about these cats being "traumatized." I care for a colony of 6 Community Cats and as a trauma impacted person living with PTSD, I recognized the signs of trauma in these cats. I've have trauma informed care and use those principles to work with these cats.

I have such a soft spot for shy, sweet boys. My cat was left behind by his family as well. But he is the sweetest boy ever and has nothing but love to give. We've had a few Chucks pass thru our home. They are the ones that we really rejoice for when they're adopted. Kittens are wonderful but they are so much easier to adopt out. Thanks all those other fosters out there getting it done.

Chuck is like my cat! She's got only some front teeth left and I make her some cat food cream soup every day 😄🥰 She is still very anxious but also a real love bug! Without the rescuers and her foster mom we would never have met each other.

i have 4 stray cats that ive been feeding in my yard cos they are hungry and need help, so i decided to build them a house cat so that they dont have to wonder in the neighborhood to find a shelter and food. I feel good that i am able to help them and make their lives easier. I am spayed and neutered them. When i see a video like yours, i never skip the ads because i like what you are doing to these animals.

My sister's friend was moving out-of-state and was going to just dump her cat outside. My sister heard about this, took the cat from her and scolded her saying she was to NEVER get another pet. I ended up adopting the cat. Most loving, friendly cat I've ever had. Like everyone else here, I just can't comprehend how someone could just dump a pet outside.
I think my current guy was left behind, after a summer of hanging around the back of my apartment building and being friendly to everyone when the weather turned I just had to take him in- even thought I wasn't allowed in my lease.
I had to hide him until I got a new lease but he was well worth it, he has a little bit of trust issues but he's come a long way with that in our 3 years together.
I'd like to think for every person who is callous towards an animal's feelings there are more who care, and I know there are at least 2 who'll go out of their way to rescue them (as in you and me!). Happy Holidays from me and Buddy the cat!

I'm older, I got a rescue adult cat. When I got him, I found he was afraid of me. A neighbour lady came over and he sat by her, as far from me as possible. Finally, one night while I was watching TV, he came up to me, looked me in eye, jumped up and settled down. After about 10 minutes of soft talking and light petting, he started to purr. We were buddies after that for 7 years. When I taught him about being outdoors, his personality blossomed. I miss the little bugger.

I look after a colony of cats here in São Miguel Azores, Portugal. I have two female cats that I am certain have been abandoned. They are both so loving and kind. I wish they were with forever families. 😢

Sad that people think that abandoning a creature you have taken responsibility for is somehow less horrible than actual abuse. That said, I am sure several of these events are truly not on purpose as the pet may elope due to stress and return to the old area it lived in, or that a pet is not found during moving and the owners (due to economic realities) just have to leave. How many are accidental is anyones guess.
