I am a grown man, father of three, and here I am, tears in my eyes watching this older cat's life turned around by a sweet little kitten. Amazing! Thank you for the video.

Yikes McClain . Why so angry ? I think you need a little buddy . If someone is sharing how beautiful this video was to watch and how it made him feel, you strike back as if that sweet older man was attacking you . I am sorry something in your life has made you feel this way .
He needed a "reason" to live. Yes, he ate because he was hungry, but other than that, he had pretty much given up on life in general. The kitten won him over, he felt needed once more by his own kind. The old ways came back to him, and the kitten in return responded and brought out the real kitty he once had been. I had an older tom cat like this. He didn't care for other cats, but he would take a kitten and shower it with love.
literally this. people often imprint human emotions or behaviours on animals, but there's no doubt here. phoenix had lost his previous life and shut down. He was glad to find inside comfort and food, but that was it, just comfort. the little kitten made all the rest of his personality come back. really a beautiful thing.
@@MeganKoumori he was probably a Khao Manee like Phoenix, they are a breed from south east asia that were considered Royal cats, and could only be owned by special people, but as more western influence came in they were exported to the rest of the world. They mostly have the two colour eyes and are quite expensive to buy from a breeder.
Not everyone realizes that cats can get depressed too. Especially strays that have been left behind - it's a devastating experience for them. It's amazing to see Phoenix's emotional transition (truly a fitting name for him). It seems that having a baby to take care of gave him a sense of purpose and a source of joy.
It really is, I'm someone who's extremely introverted and I was alone and sad for a while in school. I pretended like I didn't need many friends and like I was indifferent. But then in 7th grade I met one of the most important people in my life, her name is Jaylin and she's extremely extroverted. She's loud and noisy, and always hyper. She's confident and is super caring and sweet. Those who knew me in school before she came along, as well as myself, were shocked at how different i became when she showed up. I opened up, and was playful. I found a side of me I forgot was there, much like Phoenix. Jaylin really changed me for the better, and I am not sure where I'd be without her. She moved sadly, and it was really hard on me and I most definitely cried, but luckily we still keep in contact. As much as we pretend that we don't care too much, us introverts need our extroverted friends. They can really make a difference in our life.
@@rustedoak5953 Yes you're right. Because humans are naturally social ppl. Humans cannot live on their own. They need social links. It's mandotary for their well-being
God, who would give up a cat that looks like Phoenix? The two different colored eyes and that light colored fur. You don't come across a cat like that very often. Such a sweet story...so happy for Phoenix and Ruby.
It's amazing how little kittens can bring a tough, abandoned male cat right back to life. Brings tears to my eyes, thinking how sad these cats were, until they knew love.
@@pawwalker3492 my old man might be a special case. the 3 year old is his son, never found mom... so he had a kitten, raised it & got another! he's very parental.
Just a bit unrealistic sometimes... I don't mean the stories per se, but that they only show success stories... It taints the picture. I didn't want to click this at first because it reminded me of how we thought that our cat called Mori (Mo-ree) who had previously lost his brother needed a new companion. We introduced them carefully of course, but the little one called Skotti (Scot-ee) had so much energy and always jumped Mori. Mori had had a strange disease, probably a nerve inflammation, and after the inflammation was gone he still had pain in his back sometimes. Mori wasn't playful and ignored Skotti, so Skotti quickly figured out that the only way to make Mori move was to jump his back, which must have caused Mori lots of pain. It was hell for Mori, and the only way for him to get rest was when I locked him in my room, which he appreciated, but that wasn't sustainable of course. Well, at some point, it was probably too much, and Mori disappeared without leaving a trace to never be seen again.... :( We got Skotti a new kitten, just a few weeks younger than he was, and after a few days of hissing he finally had someone to run around with and they loved each other for a while until Skotti, who dislikes close contact with other animals (so Simba and our dog), became more aggressive during play for some reason. It's a pity, especially because Simba just loves close contact with both humans and animals, but he can only cuddle with our dog (and us obviously), although she usually doesn't tolerate it for long. Nowadays, the cats are both 4 years old (Skotti will turn 5 on Christmas Eve), and they get along more or less, although they're very good at social distancing. They usually keep their distance and you can see that they're scared to get close often because it will result in a short fight/rough play, even though it looks like that's 100% Skotti's fault. I wonder if it's indirectly our fault that they don't get along anymore.
@@solar0wind awww, it's ok. I have the same problem too, our two shih tzus are always fighting with each other no matter what. We always have to separate them which results in the smaller one being constantly hidden or isolated (our larger one is more aggressive). We also wonder if we had raised our dogs properly. One is aggressive and antisocial, the other is scared and can barely take care of herself and act like a dog. I think we need these kinds of positive videos to show that even if we may have failed our pets, it gives us hope that other pets are not being raised that way. Not saying that we were wrong and horrible for raising them incorrectly, but as long as they are still willing to love us, I think they'll be alright.
Strong, silent protagonist with white hair, different coloured eyes and a tragic past, is made to rediscover the beauty in life by a young energetic newcomer barging in, showing him friendship and mending his broken heart... ... Is this an anime?
rip big man :( he made many kittens feel safe and loved and I'm so happy he found purpose in his old age. for those who dont follow the CoSB insta, Phoenix and Ruby kinda grew apart but he became a permanent CoSB cat and helped rehabilitate and comfort sick and recovering kittens. The stereotype description of an “grumpy old man” doesn’t seem fair! Many older people have had painful loss and trauma. The same with older animals, like Phoenix! He wasn’t grumpy, just sad and depressed! I wished some younger folks weren’t so judgmental when relating to older people and animals!
He was afraid to show affection since he'd been abandoned by the people who he thought loved him. He must have loved them very much. They broke his heart and spirit. God bless the tiny kitten he fell in love with! ❤️🤗🙏
Phoenix finished his life as a resident cat for this rescue. Ruby helped him rebuilt his jjoy of life but the relationship didn't really last as she got older. They wound up just kinda being cats together, and Phoenix opened up to the rescue's steady through traffic of kittens and became a senior mentor. Unfortunately he passed away of cancer after a good long rich life. Such is the way of cats. He had some happiness and died loved. We should all hope to be so lucky.

That poor baby, he looks so bad-scars from fights and all scratched up. He is shut down emotionally because he has been through so much. No food, no care and no kindness for a long time. Thank you for taking him in and the little ones, too. These homeless kitties don’t deserve the callous way they have been treated. Bless you🙏🏻🐈
I'm trying to get a stray boy in my house right now. I named him "Tony" because he's black and white. He was getting into fights with this other guy I named "Randy" early on, but Randy quit when I chased him away (he was hurting Tony so badly). Tony was basically feral when he started to come around my apartment complex. Now he is totally fine with people being around him. I'm working on getting him permanently into my house. I put him on a schedule - 7:45am - time for delicious Fancy Feast, 10:45am - Daddy comes outside (I work at home) and gives him love, 5:30pm he walks with me to the apartment dumpster to throw away my daughter's poopy and pee. And then roughly 8pm he comes inside the apartment for a playdate with my daughter. It's been going great. They do a proper greeting and then my daughter either hangs around or views him from a chair to see what he's doing. He loves cardboard scratchers. He thinks my daughter, Missy, is the coolest cat alive. I just need to get him fixed and bathed (he is soooo dirty and mostly white sigh.)
I adopted an older cat, sight unseen, from a shelter. heard she was adopted twice before and returned. For five or six years she hated me. You couldn't even pet her because after a couple of pets she'd bite. Then one day she just changed. She became an affectionate cat and was very sweet. One day she crawled into my lap, curled up in a ball and fell asleep. One week later she died while I was out running errands. Broke my heart. RIP, girl. I'm glad she realized I wasn't the enemy before she died.
That is the sweetest thing I've seen in a while. Several years ago, I found a cold little kitten huddling on the corner of a dangerous road and brought her home, where she immediately turned into little ninja kitty with people. She trusted our other two cats before she trusted us. I still have her, she's about 13 now
Phoenix: Ugh the humans brought home a kitten. I hate social interaction! Ruby: HI! I'm Ruby! Phoenix: ...this creature is acceptable. I shall scent it as mine! Ruby: Hooray! A bath!
Louis Gedo Yes. I love all animals/creatures but I really love and am so thankful to all the people who rescue and save hurt or abandoned animals/creatures and ones that need help.
This crew, Cats of San Bernardino, are some straight up heroes. They help the most severe cases and give these thrown away kitties a shot at love. Love these ladies and what they do ❤
That lady who says, "that's Phoenix's tail!", and "Aww, Phoen", she is such an amazing person. Just think about it. You can hear it in her voice. I don't know why it hit me like that, it just reminds me that there are SUCH AMAZING human beings on this planet.
The description said that he was left behind by the owners in their old apt complex. Whether that means they were jerks or that he was an outdoor cat that refused to come back and they had to leave without him, it’s a tragedy.
Phoenix: "I just want to be alone. I've lost everything I used to know and love." Ruby: "I am gonna be your friend no matter what!" Phoenix: "Aww, I can't stay mad at this little bundle of joy! I'm your papa now!"
It broke my heart seeing his condition and depression. He suffered and mourned the loss of his family for so long. People can be so cruel. I'm thankful you cared for him and that Ruby reawakened his spirit. Amazing. I would have taken him in a heartbeat. I adopted a white rescue boy at 8 weeks old. He was deaf and was my best friend and companion. For 20 years he slept in my arms every night. I miss him so even though I've had 3 cats since then.
I took home a white dude with black spots someone abandoned near my neighborhood. The little boy who liked him named him Phoenix after himself!🤣He's soft as a bunny and so sweet! Now we have 26 inside and 4 outside we take care of. I can't say no Andover all of them. Don't worry, I'm very OCD and I don't mean Obsessive Cat Disorder!😂😺💖

Whoever adopts Phoenix (and Ruby) is getting a Van Cat, a breed from Turkey. Van Cats are pure white with one blue and one green eye, and they love water. Phoenix is actually a variant on that, an Ankara Cat, with one eye gold instead of green. They're highly prized and illegal to export from Turkey, but they do show up all over the world.
There was one right next to my apartment. She had been there for quite a while. One day when I went to get my cycle I noticed her but this time she came to me. I petted her and it was amazing. She loved it and would follow me and like ask me to continue. She also had three kittens and I got milk for all of them. But about 4 weeks later they all disappeared.
While the Turkish Van is indeed a specific breed, the term "van" also refers to the color pattern. So while Phoenix may have a Van patterning, that doesn't mean he's a Van breed. Besides....the Turkish Van is a semi long-hair....Phoenix is short.
@@cofkavos A flame point -- ANY of the cats with "pointed" colors, really -- would have color on his paws as well. I see shadowing on certain positions, but no coloring.
It's horrendous for an animal to be left behind, either by the owner's death or abandonment. I took in 6 strays a few years back. Their temperament changed so much. I had been feeding them outside for a while but had an indoor cat, Sammy, who they didn't get along with. Sammy was 20 years old and ill; I couldn't bring myself to make living changes that would make his life harder. In the meantime a couple of winters passed and I tried to keep the strays warm as best I could. I put some electric blankets on a thick patio rug and came up with some makeshift shelters to put on top of the blankets. They only left the the blankets to eat and go to the bathroom. Then I tried putting a patio heater in my hot water heater closet, which seemed to be warmer. They rarely left the closet the whole Winter. When Sammy died the next Winter I put up a doggy door to see if I could get the strays to come inside my apartment. It didn't take long for the cold weather to coax them in. They were very skittish and hid behind furniture, which was fine - at least they were warm. After about 30 days their personalities changed and they became playful and kittenish. One by one they started letting me pet them when I fed them. Now a few years later 5 out of 6 want to be petted and brushed. They are a handful - it's plenty of work keeping the place vacuumed and shampooing the rug due to "accidents", which happen every week. But I remember when they all had that hunted look on their dirty little faces and how relaxed they seem now, so I'm happy to see that.
There is a look, like they're always on edge watching out for something trying to get them. One of rescues, Momma Kitty, took awhile to get calmed down. When she did, she'd curl up on the arm of my husband's recliner and sleep so soundly she snored! I loved that sound (lost her on Thanksgiving 2 years ago due to cancer). I miss her so much....
"maybe he just doesn't wanna have friends." impossible. the dodo has taught us that EVERY animal on earth wants friends. especially those that have been abandoned.
I dont know - we had a beautiful cat who just never liked me! But I loved her despite this. We got her from the Humane Society as a kitten, and she hadn't seemed to have gone through any trauma. It actually got to the point where it was kind of funny. She'd purr when I'd pet her only if she was eating food. Other than that, I'd pet her and she'd just look at me like, "Mehhh," and walk away. She loved my dad and brother and even my mom a little. Once they all went on vacation for a week but I decided to stay home and work. Eventually she reluctantly came up to me like, "I need a petting, you're the only one here, so I guess you'll do." She really didn't seem to enjoy it, though, despite both our efforts! 😆 She was such a little beauty. She lived for 22 years! I miss her. I think sometimes pets are like people - you just make a decision to accept them as is and love them regardless of how they feel towards you. We all need unconditional love from someone. She was my grumpy little angel. 😾💞💕🤷🏼♀️
I love this. I myself have a rescue elderly gentleman that's been traumatised. Its taken me 3 years to get to the point where I can sit next to him, brush him and he enjoys it and isn't anxious. For the first year I had him, he wedged himself between a box and the wall and only came out to eat and use the litterbox. He was terrified if humans. About a year ago we got a young cat with three legs found abandoned in the bush. About 2 weeks after we bought that cat home I heard the old man purr for the first time, and he has the loudest purr ive ever heard and its absolute magic to hear! Shout out to all my peeps caring for traumatised elderly cats, you're all doing an awesome job! It's so worth it ❤
Ruby appears to have brought a sense of purpose back into Phoenix's life. Everyone, whether they are human, feline, or otherwise, wants to feel needed.
Thank goodness you were able to see how devastated Phoenix was, to have someone he loved abandon him. Then happy little Ruby told him, didn't ask if it was okay, just told him they were going to belong to each other. You had the sensitivity to see Phoenix can't handle another abandonment and you're adopting them as a bonded pair, which they truly are. I dont think I can adopt them but I would run to do it if I could. I pray God always blesses them and you.
he wasn't "antisocial", he was heart broken. when one has their heart damaged that badly, it's a scary thing to allow it to beat for somebody/something new. her determination made it possible for him to heal and open back up to what could be. i'm glad you decided to keep them together. it shows that you have a good *_heart_* as well.
Boy ! If ever there was an example of animals having human traits, this is a great one. Phoenix was deeply hurt by his past experiences & wasn't going to let Ruby have a bad kitten-hood, if he could make a difference.
The odd coloured eyes in Phoenix is call ‘heterorchromia iridium’. It is either caused by ‘ genetics, or congenitally, or acquired’ and usually occurs in cats with white fur, which incidentally the cat may be deaf in the same side ear as the blue eye or not maybe not at all!. There about 13 different breeds of cats that carry or have this condition. It’s so good to see that a bond developed between Ruby and Phoenix and that they are going to be adopted out together. I’m wishing them a long and happy life together! Hugs from South 🇦🇺
is it not "iridis"? I do have the iridium one, witch touch a part of the eye. Heterochromia iridis is when eyes are not the same color like this cat ? Or maybe that I confuse, this is possible (sorry if I make mistakes, my english is pretty bad)
My parents took an older cat that was abandoned by it's owner at an apartment complex where my brother lived. The vet estimated that Max was about 10 years old and he lived with my parents for another 10 years after they took him in. He loved his couch and yard. Sweet old guy.
I’m so glad you recognized that Phoenix really needed Ruby for his Main source of happiness and refused to take her away from him as a cat who already had suffered so much loss and would only adopt them together. Right now it looks like Ruby is a “ throw in” part of your family unit purely for the benefit of Phoenix but I’m pretty sure she has developed an attachment to him and as you get used to her developing personality you folks will grow to love her for who she is even after Phoenix has passed on. Thank you for keeping Phoenixes late in life family unit togethrr.❤
Phoenix finally accepting this was it for him: "Hello darkness, my old friend" Phoenix when Ruby shows up in his life: "I'M WALKING ON SUNSHINE, WHOOAAA AND DOES IT FEEL GOOD"
This is the first cat in any video I saw that I truly believed was depressed. I have never seen such a sad cat. He must have experienced really terrible things. I am glad he found a new friend and purpose. His instincts of bathing and teaching the baby cat helped him to start healing. I hope they find a family that is as loving and caring as his rescuers.

McClain .
You sir, made me cry.
literally this.
people often imprint human emotions or behaviours on animals, but there's no doubt here. phoenix had lost his previous life and shut down. He was glad to find inside comfort and food, but that was it, just comfort.

How introverts make friends?
- Extrovert adopts them
This is that
It really is, I'm someone who's extremely introverted and I was alone and sad for a while in school.

I knooowww🥺😎
We got Skotti a new kitten, just a few weeks younger than he was, and after a few days of hissing he finally had someone to run around with and they loved each other for a while until Skotti, who dislikes close contact with other animals (so Simba and our dog), became more aggressive during play for some reason.
Ikr, they show how to love and support animals through positivity! Unlike some other organization I know...

Thanks! Interesting stuff.

This made me so happy! Thanks

"maybe he just doesn't wanna have friends."
impossible. the dodo has taught us that EVERY animal on earth wants friends. especially those that have been abandoned.
She was such a little beauty. She lived for 22 years! I miss her.

Ruby appears to have brought a sense of purpose back into Phoenix's life. Everyone, whether they are human, feline, or otherwise, wants to feel needed.
Cats look so peaceful when they are asleep ☺️
Pheonix: "I don't like anyone anymore" "nevermind i like dis one"
"But this is the only one I like. Anyone hurt her and you will feel my wrath."
It's so sad to see animals depressed and heartbroken. I'm so glad Phoenix found a loving family. God bless.

"The owners he loved left him and he became depressed."
Proof cats are just as good as dogs ❤🐶❤🐱❤
I felt so bad for him 😞😞
Moonlight, True. They are who they are. So are dogs. The whole cats vs. dogs concept has always been false, in my not-in-the-least humble opinion.🐶🐈

Ruby got mauled and torn apart by loose pitbulls. It's sad because they had to put the old guy down as he stopped eating.
don't believe WildHorse Way, they have given different stories about the kitten to different users, so probably just here to make people upset.
he wasn't "antisocial", he was heart broken. when one has their heart damaged that badly, it's a scary thing to allow it to beat for somebody/something new. her determination made it possible for him to heal and open back up to what could be. i'm glad you decided to keep them together. it shows that you have a good *_heart_* as well.
That’s was so beautiful what you said
Relatable
Yeah I've never seen a cat with depression like that, he really did have his heart broken when he was abandoned
What a beautiful transformation from the Old Cat!!!😊😊😊
He didn't want to get his heart broken again.
The woman who got Pheonix is amazing, I’m so happy to see Pheonix being social! God bless this woman!
It’s two women who do this together, Jaina and Ivy. They have helped so many cats ❤️ They have an Instagram page you can follow @ catsofsanbernardino
The love I have for animals is immeasurable, and those who share the same feelings. Bless everyone of you.

Pheonix: *I like no cats*
Ruby: Well, I'm not a cat, I'm a kitten, so TOO BAD!!!
Total “no man can kill me // I am no man” energy
Phoenix: i like *one* cat
@@SportyMabamba this is the first thing I thought!!! XD
My parents took an older cat that was abandoned by it's owner at an apartment complex where my brother lived. The vet estimated that Max was about 10 years old and he lived with my parents for another 10 years after they took him in. He loved his couch and yard. Sweet old guy.
Kitties are special
You've got great folks!
Ruby gave him a purpose in life. He felt needed and enjoyed showing her things and how she looked up to him made him a proud man.

@@fatdad64able It's mind boggling that a ruthless, relentless monster like you can harbour such delicate thoughts.
I’m so glad you recognized that Phoenix really needed Ruby for his Main source of happiness and refused to take her away from him as a cat who already had suffered so much loss
and would only adopt them together.
Phoenix looks like that kinda of anime dude who's like really quiet and cold and then met this girl who made him smile for the first time in his life.
It's not only a sad depressing anime scenario...

Did anyone notice phoenix's eyes are of 2 different colours! He's so beautiful
First thing I noticed! My cat has the same eyes 👀. But she's fluffier. She's a Turkish Angora. Also a former stray.
@@marthadeleon1347 i think the cat in the video is turkish van cat
@@balladmusicrules Oh, ok. Those 2 breeds are very similar. 😊
no, I don't think anyone noticed that, just you
I love this. It's so worth it ❤
That's a wonderful story, thank you.
Precious comment
I thought you were talking about an actual human and got so confused for a sec...
@@ronpo3798 by the context of the video, it's easy to understand that it is cat, but it so much more fun to imagine an elderly gentleman instead of a cat while reading this story
Ruby: Hello!
Phoenix: Welp, looks like I'm a dad now.
Aizawa when he sees his class
That little Ruby is so adorable! I'm so happy to see Phoenix a happy cat. I can't imagine how animals deal and think about the hardships some of the experience in their lives. They have no alternative but to suffer until a kind human takes care of their needs.
He has so much character in his face, sweet baby
